Green Manalishi, a masterpiece from Peter Green. Unfortunately we lost him just a month ago on 25th July 2020. Peter Green, rest in peace. Judas Priest, thanks for playing this masterpiece.
You're right. I remember years ago, reading an editorial about "Judas Priest's rendering of Fleetwood Mac's 'Green Manalishi". I thought, what the heck? This was way before Wikipedia - or even the internet, for that matter - so I had to rely upon finding some hardcore Fleetwood Mac fans for clarity. It was only after diligent research that I learned of Peter Green, and the founding of his band, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. I originally thought this song was some sort of metal-hyper-love-ballad. In fact, it showcases the ever-presence of greed - the mythical god , green, who gives and takes - that can overtake an artist. Peter Green admonished Mick Fleetwood and his bandmates to consider living a more 'artist-in-poverty' lifestyle. This - along with Peter's known drug use - would lead to irreconcilable differences, and, thus, Peter's removal from the lineup. He remains today, as one of the great progenitors of British Blues-Rock to have ever picked up the guitar.
@@recordman555 For most of my childhood, my 3 favorite bands were Judas Priest, Fleetwood Mac (w/ Peter Green and with Lindsey Buckingham/Stevie Nicks), and Black Sabbath. I loved (and still do love) both bands versions of this song. Other Fleetwood Mac greats from around this song's time: 'Albatros' (my all time favorite instrumental) and 'Oh Well'.
This is one of those rare songs where I think the original and the cover are equally great. "Memories Can't Wait" Talking Heads/Living Colour are another example.
@@whom382 It sounds better than FM's version because of the heavier instrumentation and the more modern recording technique. It lacks the eerie and haunting qualities the original has. “Unleashed in the East “ Changed my life musically when I listened to it in 1980..... I know some others stepped in but the original lineup will never be equaled ( obviously ) It is a slap in the face of every heavy metal fan that these guys aren’t in the (So-called).Hall of Fame. I will forever boycott that POS Hall of Lame until The Rolling Stone magazine and its owner divests their ownership of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or change the name to “The MUSIC Hall. Until then it’s all an ego trip by the ownership, and real fans won’t go to the farcical “Fan vote “ ( just click bait for them to raise their advertising rates) that does not even count toward who gets in. Boycott Now!!!!!
Question, how many people watched this because you were hoping that Rob Halford would sing the chorus like he did on Unleashed In The East & Hell Bent For Leather (Killing Machine)? The Green Manallishi is a Priest classic
Here in this video, rock'n roll in its essence... rock'n roll will never die, do you know why? Because it was never part of a moment... it is part of eternity!
Now when the day goes to sleep and the full moon looks And the night is so black that the darkness cooks And you come creeping around, making me do things I don't want to do Can't believe that she needs my love so bad Come sneaking around, trying to drive me mad Busting in all my dreams, making me see things I don't want to see Cause you're the Green Manalishi with the two-pronged crown All night dragging us up, or you're bringing us down Just taking my love, and slip away Leaving me here, trying to keep from following you
They put their own spin on it but I don't think they 'took it to another level'. If you are a metal fan I've no doubt you may prefer this version but for me it lacks the true feeling and darkness of the original. Its literally the soundtrack of a mental breakdown.
I live in Cincinnati and have seen you guys twice here. My adult kids (who grew up with your music) bought tickets for us to travel to Nashville to see you guys earlier this year and it was awesome. Glad you are getting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction FINALLY

@Call me however tu préfères, Amigo. The stage and how they came on stage was awesome on the intro "Out in the Cold"...The bass was so thundering being there live the concrete shook...You tube audio doesn't not prove justice but the CD captures a decent sound stage...
From the bottom of my heart!,i have too say you are the best group in the WORLD!Love you from my heart!
I think Richie plays live with loads of Randy Rhoads inspired style flourishes in between things. It is a total treat to behold. He's pretty amazing. Am I right or am I wrong?
I can see the parallels.
Richie is an absolute beast on guitar..........if you've never seen the stuff he did on EMG TV then definitely look it up it will blow your mind.
This is undeniably the best cover tune ever..........Judas Priest has always owned this song.
Sadly soon there will be no bands like Judas Priest. Unfortunately we all age and die ,on the bright side what was recorded will be preserved for future generations .
Greetings to all metal fans around the world.
GR Poland 🇵🇱
That’s why I like tribute bands and The Classic Rock Show tour every year
Rob always comes across as such a nice bloke whenever ive heard him speak, no arrogance just quiet respectfulness
Judas Priest is the best band .Metal Gods.🎸🎤
And it's the Authentic HEAVY METAL!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🇬🇷
Judas Priest rocks Fleetwood Mac. Green Manalishi is a great song, whether its FM or JP.
When is was 16 in the 1970s my School Head Master stopped me from going into my maths exam because I was wearing a US army combat jacket with a huge Judas Priest patch on the back. He told me I could either take the jacket off or miss the exam: Priest won.
Judas Priest will always win at everything! You can count on it.
Fuck ya 🤠
Too funny...told my fiancee to shut up when I watching JP.. we're divorced..lol.
Hilarious
This band has been in my playlist for 20 years it seems.. can we keep it together for another ten
Hey Rob, you say you got the greatest fans ever. It's because Judas Priest earned it. Oi oi oi!!!!
Awesome Halford voice sounds incredible! and the band is still kicking ass this is one of my favorite songs from Judas Priest. 🤟
The first real heavy metal band
The hands down best heavy metal ever. Been a fan since start of it all. Seen them 27 times.😮
What a difference this drummer makes to the group.
yes a good bassplayer and drummer make a giant difference
I have been listening to Judas Priest for the majority of my life. Y'alls music kicks @ss. 😊
one of the best live versions i’ve ever heard
A brilliant interpretation of a Peter Green classic. Keep on Rockin' 👌👏😍
One of the tightest, best sounding live bands ever. Supreme musicianship all around.
Definitely! And their live sound is unmatched, IMHO. 😊
So good to see Tipton out there. God bless him
My first gig - 1981 - Sheffield City Hall. Point of Entry Tour. I was 13. #lifechanged. Fucking awesome.
The way he says “lurks” and “cooks” true Metal God!
One of my favourite Priest tracks!. When you listen to something for the first time and it just makes an impression on you!. Love the vocals...
One of the greatest things I’ve ever seen!
Best drummer in rock...anywhere...can play anything....any time
Question, how many people watched this because you were hoping that Rob Halford would sing the chorus like he did on Unleashed In The East & Hell Bent For Leather (Killing Machine)?
The Green Manallishi is a Priest classic
Judas Priest was always a very great band live Robs' vocals still take my breath away thumbs up gentlemen
Here in this video, rock'n roll in its essence... rock'n roll will never die, do you know why? Because it was never part of a moment... it is part of eternity!
So true friend!!!
Richie had some huge shoes to fill, and did it well.
Happy birthday KK Downing October 27th ❤❤❤
Now when the day goes to sleep and the full moon looks
And the night is so black that the darkness cooks
And you come creeping around, making me do things I don't want to do
Can't believe that she needs my love so bad
Come sneaking around, trying to drive me mad
Busting in all my dreams, making me see things I don't want to see
Cause you're the Green Manalishi with the two-pronged crown
All night dragging us up, or you're bringing us down
Just taking my love, and slip away
Leaving me here, trying to keep from following you
Best cover of a song, ever..
I thank you Peter Green for writing this song So this metal band can absolutely take it to another level. Long Live Judas Priest and RIP PETER✌🎸🎤
Did Eddie Cochran Summertime Blues Link Wray Rumble Peter Green Oh Well and Green Manalishi create the pattern for Heavy Metal?
Underrated musician & songwriter.
@@tomsawyer5736 that's a definite. Very underrated
@@vangannaway1015 all Blues turned into rock and roll look as Led Zeppelin The Who endless bands even Jimi Hendrix
They put their own spin on it but I don't think they 'took it to another level'. If you are a metal fan I've no doubt you may prefer this version but for me it lacks the true feeling and darkness of the original. Its literally the soundtrack of a mental breakdown.
Rob's voice is amazing ! Like good wine that just gets better with age ....
RIP Peter Green.....I'm sure he would be rocking in heaven to Priest's version of his classic
I listened to PG's live version on YT circa 1970 and boy it's lightyears different (very bluesy and progressive) !
I live in Cincinnati and have seen you guys twice here. My adult kids (who grew up with your music) bought tickets for us to travel to Nashville to see you guys earlier this year and it was awesome. Glad you are getting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction FINALLY
Yay!!
This is the BEST LIVE performance of the original song !
You do know Priest borrowed this song from Fleetwood Mac right??
@@jkbearhunterhope everyone here is aware of Peter Green existence and his unparalleled musical skills
Been a Priest fan since 77, Sad Wings of Destiny album set me off
🔗Master of metal🔗
Rob Halford is a great vocal 🎤
THE METAL GOD. ROB HALFORD
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Yes, my bro. 🎤👑☠👊
I hope this man knows how important he is.. An aeon, age old slab.. of testimony to hell and to self benefit for all, the world is metal and this man knows it !!!
Big Rob is such a fkn sweetheart.
Maiden and Priest are the two greatest metal bands in my opinion... but it's amazing how well PRIEST has aged... Unfortunately I can't say the same about MAIDEN (a band that I love!).
Best Heavy Metal Band!Judas Priest!🤘🎸🙏🇨🇭
I don't even like this song but Rob's introduction was metal-godly!
The priest amazing, richie didn't just breath life back in ,it had never left he just kept it alive stayed true amazing player ,love his riffs.
Metal Gods, all of them. Worship that voice and omg KK Downing and Glen Tipton have some kind of otherworldly synchronicity that makes Judas Priest better live than recorded EVEN 40 YEARS LATER! Loved them since i 1st heard it in 1978 when i was 6 yrs old askind my bro what that music was...
This song never gets old, no matter which video of it I hear. I was totally blown away to find out that it was originally a Fleetwood Mac song. Crazy. But nobody does it like Priest!
..Seen them in the Rockin 80's...British Steel Tour was the 1st time....Fuel For Life was Kick Fuckin Ass...
I may be old today but ..i seen all the heavys in their prime...🤘🏼
This isn't just some heavy metal band. Judas Priest formed their own religion and their followers never turn their backs. Alive and kicking and still rocking hard. 🤘👍🎸
It's still my alarm ⏰ that will wake you up. I'm trained to wake before I'm shocked 😲 into awareness lol 😂 🤘 ❤
Judas Priest still rocks when 98% of the bands of the 'hair band' 80's Hard Rock/Heavy Metal zenith...are long gone. Nothing but respect.
Always, Judas Priest are one of the best. Scorpions, Iron Maiden, Kiss....these FOUR HORSEMEN of the HEAVY METAL APOCALYPSE !!
Richie is giving Glen a run for his money he's so badass on his guitar dam
