I think this is a bad take not 100% false by any means. You didn’t account for his called back interceptions, and I think Bo Jack has some of the best play recognition in the league. Very high IQ player who was apart of a whole defense that didn’t play how they liked. 2021 with desai should be a very good one

Trying to see what happened, maybe it was the injury, but from what I can see, he gets a huge deal, after the new deal his production has decreased significantly… hope he can bounce back, but week 1 did not look promising.
This is why as a Raider fan, I have faith in Jonathan Abram to turn it around. Guenther had him doing too much as the primary Blitzer on passing downs & expecting him to hold up in mana on man coverage. There's a reason he went in the 1st rd. He has great closing speed. Gus Bradley will play primarily Cover 3 & expect him to play things safe. Hes got enough intangibles & skill to be a good tandem with Moehrig.
I don't agree with that description of Eddie Jackson in college he was the leader of the Bama defense, which had Minka on it and he fell because of the injury. Its just so hard to look good when the Pagono's defense was so vanilla I mean he made Mack look like an above average DE instead of dominant.
Sean Desai is gonna be running his own twist on Vic Fangios scheme this year. Scheme and D-Line play is the kryptonite to safety’s in the NFL. Stop being a “stat” guy and just acknowledge the obvious. The D-Line play in 2018 was next level. Which in turn allowed Eddie to jump routes and be more aggressive. Vic Fangio also wanted him to be aggressive. Chuck Pagano on the other hand wanted the opposite and the D-Line play was subpar… the defense also was on the field more than ANY other defense in the league do to the awful QB play. So Eddie Jackson will be just fine this season lmao
Hated that they put him at strings safety I didn’t see him more than 5 plays a game playing centerfield reading the QBs eyes. Pagano didn’t play to his players strengths
I would t say that he’s bad at tackling because he’s shown that he can in the past, it’s more that he seemed to be making business decisions on the field instead of going all out every play
It was the offense and Pagono that did that to the defense as a whole. You try to play all out but when you know the offense doesn't have your back and can't keep you off the field it wears on the best players. Then Pagono was so vanilla teams really didn't worry about 3rd downs so its hard to go all out when teams know the holes and just keep converting.
People just dont seem to grasp how these defenses function that are running alot of zone cover 4. You hear people say all of the time that it starts up front, and IT DOES but saying it and fully understaning it are two different things. The past 2 seasons the Bears have lost TWO KEY IMPACT players that ARE VITAL to this 3-4 to function. In 2019 the Bears lost their 5 Technique with Hicks. The 5 Technique in a 3-4 needs to bend that edge and keep the run and QB in front of himto take away the bootleg to the QBs strondside. With a NT present to take away the A GAPS the QB is forced to throw it away or is flushed into the passrush of the weakside OLB. Losing Hicks in 2019 sent a ripple effect from the front to the back of the entire defense and thwarted the OLB positions. Then in 2020 the Bears lost their primary ryn stuffer with Goldman. You all saw how offenses attacked the Bears with the run and forced extra DBs into the box. Once that happens you put a TON of strain on your remaining Safety in coverage and CBs. Again the Passrushers suffer. Nor does it help at all when the MORON HC that people keep calling a creative genius has shown NOTHING that says he has a clue about offense, defense, player development or anything but saying BOOM in the locker room after his players manage to grind out a win in spite of his dumb fkn ass. Lets not forget that Quinn mailed it in last season with the excuses about having to play on the wrong side of the formation and also having to play from the 2 point stance. When you lose any of Hicks, Goldman or Nichols along with one of your OLBs like Quinn or Floyd before him dogging it, your one standout passrusher(Mack) is neutralized by doubles. IDC if you have Lynch and Ronnie Lott at the Safety positions. If you have these issues hampering your defensive front end, your DBs ARE going to struggle.
