What Happened to the 31 Players Drafted Before Lamar Jackson?

- The NFL drafting system is broken. How did Lamar Jackson fall to the 32nd pick? The Baltimore Ravens were lucky that all 31 other NFL teams didn't know how to draft.

This was a pretty killer draft class honestly
I dont remember tge later rounds really. But that 1st round can compete with a lot of the top 1st rounds all time
Such a good class and the Cardinals drafted Josh Rosen 😂🥲
@@felsherzog14 tbh...had he gone to a team like the patriots I think he'd still be in the league
the 1996 ravens, now THAT was a killer draft class..
I know it’s early, but there a at least 5 guys on a HOF trajectory. Not bad.
You should do the 261 players drafted before purdy 😂
The video would be three hours long. But I agree.
With the start he is having to bis career....we are probably gonna have a "Brady Six" style doc on that subject in like 10 years
@@markattenborough9107once he get that fat contract they won’t be able to keep all the surrounding pieces n the 49ers gonna be trash
20, 1hr long episodes for Purdy. Start with Fred Warner, follow by George Kittle and Brock Purdy.
15 of the 32 players made at least 1 pro bowl thats insane.
It’s crazy we really got 2 top 10 picks in the 2018 draft, Lamar at 32 and then a few years later trading for Roquan Smith for a second round pick. Absolutely amazing work by the Ravens!
Im still shocked the bears didnt pay roquan, dude is easily one of the most consistent defensive players in the league
Bears tried to be too cute
As a Bears fan, we also were very disappointed. Iirc it's because we didn't want to pay him his worth and he wasn't budging. When he left that marked the end for how elite our defense was at the time... What's weird is we got Tremaine Edmunds now
@@Shakiahjprod i figured it was him not budging on taking a cheaper contract
The Bears were not gonna pay top dollar for an off ball linebacker. This position isn't a premium position. The Bears tied with the 49ers in takeaways anyway
This draft was damn good.. The Ravens currently have both the best linebacker in the league and QB...both from this draft.
The TE duo is gonna be best all time likely playing like a top 5 TE and Andrews is top 2 in the league and the Ravens Rushing offense and Defense of all time
Yea.. no.
You ask 32 GMs who they draft first, Mahomes or Lamar?
32 GMs say Mahomes.
Wrong draft, wrong argument... @@TheBatmobeale

If only the Cards wouldn’t have traded up, picked Lamar and then got Bosa instead of Kyler the following year…
Then again if they would’ve picked Lamar he either wouldn’t have been as good or the Cards wouldn’t have been bad enough to draft 1st the following year.
😂😂😂😂😂
The amount of defensive talent in the 1st round was insane
The Lamar hate is baffling, the man has never committed any crimes, never said anything negative about anyone, never cheated his team in effort. All he does is be super competitive, productive and a model citizen. Goes to show some people just don’t get liked even if they do everything right.
Like this comment section is filled with Lamar hate it’s lowkey wild
I wonder how much of it is due to the color of his skin. I love Lamar and he's always said and done the right things. This is the first year that I can think of where he actually has elite receivers to throw to.
@@vlesmeriesLamar isn't hated it's the fan's
My only 'hate' on LJ8 has nothing to do with his game on the field. I wish he had an agent so his public profile would be out there. He is too humble for any self-promotion and a man of his character should be out there influencing the way society walks and talks.
LJ8 cares a LOT about his game on the field and I really appreciate that. I wish he had someone full-time looking at HIS interests off the field.
@@ravenkenI think he doesn’t care about all those things, he’s the Barry sanders type of person. Minds his own business.
Sony Michel is the biggest winner with 2 superbowl ring
Yup lamar has zero.
Michel never made a pro bowl or an all pro team. Those two rings are his only career achievements.
@@Orto4956 He is a two time Super Bowl Champion. It gets no higher.
@@user-oc8sr3ml9m It absolutely does. How about any sort of recognition that his rings are anything other than a byproduct of of Tom Brady for one bowl, and the fact that he sat on the sideline, getting a total of two carries and two yards the entirety of super bowl LVI. He never had any accomplishment other than that.
@@Orto4956 Go away.
So they just gone put Lamar in the HOF cause he can run the ball huh ? Steve McNair was the MVP of the league w/over 30k passing yards w/174 TD’s & he could scramble but he not in the HOF & McNair went to the Superbowl the NFL is like the WWE they promote who df they want sh** is a joke

Best part about Billy price is the bengals traded him to the giants for BJ Hill who is now a huge part of their defense and even has a few interceptions
Incredible how many talented players were drafted in the 2018 NFL draft! So many stars on both offense and defense who have massive impact on the NFL nowadays! Not just Lamar!
idk but based on this hindsight, my top 5 would be:
1) Josh Allen
2) Roquan Smith
3) Minkah Fitzpatrick
4) Lamar Jackson
5) Denzel Ward
are you high? Lamar has 2 MVPS while all those other players ahead of him are not even the best at their position.
@@liljohnny301 But you have situations like the AFC championship, SF knew to zone defend the line to prevent scrambling... and we seen how much of a pocket QB Lamar ACTUALLY is. Josh Allen carries more of a pocket presence than Lamar and would not have had an issue sitting in the pocket and making it rain. Scrambling QB's are awesome and game-changing. take away the ability to scramble, and you practically cripple them...
this draft was so insane
I think there are a lot of teams and situations where Lamar would have failed had he been drafted there. If he were drafted to the Jets instead of Darnold, I don't think he would be the Lamar we know today. Harbaugh was able and willing to work around his unique skillset, and was willing to build a team around him that complimented those skills. I think MANY coaches and coordinators in the NFL wouldn't have been able to do that.
Honestly, this is probably one of the best first rounds overall that we've seen in the past couple decades. Only a handful are true busts (lmao Rosen), half of them are star players, and the rest fall in the range from solid starters to top 10 in their positions.
Lamar has 2 playoff wins! What's so GREAT about him!?

Imagine drafting Sam Darnold over Bradley Chubb, Josh Allen, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Jaire Alexander, D.J. Moore, Calvin Ridley, Lamar Jackson, Nick Chubb, Courtland Sutton, and I could go on. Most Jets move ever.
I almost agree; Sam Darnold could've been better on a better franchise. The Jets gave him little to work with, yet he still shined with some solid tape.
The issue wasnt with Sam Darnold - It was with the Jets. The Jets needed a QB, they drafted Darnold and ran him into the ground with their ineptitude... Only with Hindsight can people now say its a raw deal, but ultimately its a raw deal because its the jets xDD.
Now do what happened to the 261 players drafted before Brock Purdy lol
The first shall be last and the last first. The number 8 signifies a new beginning.
I was expecting way more busts. I'm actually pretty surprised at the amount of talent that ended up being in this draft in the first round.
Talking about kolton miller "average at best pick" "can argue hes a top 10 LT in the game" how is that average?
And at the end with sony michel "didnt amount to anything but has 2 rings and scored in the superbowl" 2x superbowl champ who actually scored is amounting to nothing?
As we all know, hindsight is 20/20. 😂
I think the Bills don't mind also Terrel Edmunds is on the Titans
Mayfield lead Cleveland to its first playoff win in 2 decades and won a playoff game in Tampa. Pretty sure he'll be around for the next 6 or 7 years. Dude can play
Hayden Hurst was actually not a bad TE at all. He was just very unfortunate: he got hurt before his rookie season started, and by the time he was OK, Mark Andrews exploded. When he was on the field, Hurst wasn't bad at all. He just felt he would never be a top TE in Baltimore and so asked for and was granted, a trade. He got to Atlanta... where not many go and flourish, let's be real.
We'll never know, but I do think if Hurst didn't get injured right off the bat in his NFL career, he could have become a great starting TE.
Yeah Hurst definitely got elite talent.
- In a funny way the Ravens could possibly Pick Lamar up later knowing he’d probably still be on the Board lol
-Hayden Hurst was salty he wasn’t starting so wanted out. Funny thing is Lamar loves his TE and the Ravens love their TE’s has a back up for them he would have been eating nice. But now look at him.
Solid take! Thanks for watching!!
Saints were suppose to take him to study under Drew for the last two years. But we chose Marcus Davenport :D
The Super Bowl just a couple months prior was Eagles vs Patriots.
Lamar Jackson in a way altered both of these franchises. Patriots one pick before Jackson went with Sony Michel when they could have got the Heisman winner and had him sit behind Brady for two years thus probably extending their dynasty.
The Eagles traded the pick to Baltimore who drafted Jackson in exchange the Eagles flipped that pick into Dallas Goedert, Avonte Maddox and Miles Sanders.
Only half way through and just two busts, with everyone else between great to really good. This might be the best first round class in history! At least the top half. I'll have the check them against 2007's top half of the first.
2011 >>>
That was Ozzie doing Ozzie shit. Even before leaving he kept the franchise moving. Let's Go Flock 💜
Lot of respect for this man
@@Alexander-ov9kc I believe in Jesus Christ I encourage you to read the bible
New to football and I love watching Lamar, he’s a freak
This is what happens when the idiots who make the decisions, don't pay any attention to a man's work ethic. Lamar showed at Louisville what type of man he is and especially what kind of team player he is. All you have to do is look at his Heisman Trophy speech to get an idea as to what kind of team player Lamar is. His work ethic is on par with the likes of Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Michael Jorden. These are men who cannot stand losing so they did whatever was necessary to make themselves a cut above everyone else.
We in Louisville saw it year after year, but the powers that be were holed up in their tiny box minds of what a QB should be and totally overlooked this aspect of a true competitor. The Ravens almost screwed the pooch on this one too, but got a second chance to fix the errors of their ways. They should thank their lucky stars that they invested in Lamar Jackson. He is truly a one of a kind competitor.
all facts
The issue is - Look back over history and the "Proto typical" QB has always had more longevity in the NFL. Not to mention normally adjust to the NFL better and have less risk of Injury than running style QBs (And Yes Lamar was a running style QB in College because he had to be). Lamar has Great Work Ethic... but that doesn't mean anything - I mean do people forget Tebow had an insane work ethic but couldn't transfer to the Pro level? Like work ethic means nothing ultimately because if you can't get it right, doesnt matter how hard you work.
Ravens didnt almost screw anything. They were always planning on investing in him, what was in question was how much Guaranteed money he wanted - Which for a QB that had only played 15 games in 2 years due to injury... they had every right to be concerned. They were always at the table and he was never going to leave. We will see - Things are going well this year but its always about consistency and whether we can actually win the SB. He is in prime position to do so provided we bypass the Chiefs, but either way - People can only say a deal is worth it if that player wins. If they dont, then its not. If Mahomes hadnt won 2 SBs already and didnt win any over the next 10 years... most people wouldnt call that a good deal for the Chiefs.
Ultimately that is always going to be the case.
@@PeoplePleaser578 I don't know how far up your ass you had to travel to come to some of the conclusions that you did but you definitely don't know much about sports, especially concerning Lamar. *Lamar was a running style quarterback in college because he HAD TO BE???* You don't REMOTELY have a freakin' clue who Bobby Petrino is. Petrino NEVER coached a running style quarterback during his entire time as a college head coach. He had to tailor his offense around Lamar because *that was who Lamar was when he arrived on campus.* There are a TON of UA-cam videos that show Lamar in high school and RUN is what he did. He didn't have to, that is what he did. That was WHO HE WAS.
Then you claim that work ethic has nothing to do with performance??? *Then WHY the hell do teams bother PRACTICING???* Repetitive actions don't affect performance??? I don't care what line of work you are in but the way you practice *is the way you perform when the lights come on.* Having a strong work ethic means that you will maximize the time you spend PREPARING. @@Junkman2008 Bro you obviously don’t have a clue and have built up this shrine to Lamar as some kind of unbeatable god. I watched him at Louisville, I’ve watched him with the ravens - I am expressly telling you why people had doubts about him. Same as I am telling you why the Ravens had issues with the contract of a QB who runs a lot and was injured 2 seasons in a row….
Lamar is not a “normal” QB in the NFL. He is never going to be a Mahomes style QB or a Herbert style QB because that’s not who he is… what made him so good at college and what has made him so good at the NFL level has been his athleticism and his dual threat capabilities. You are either deluded or you don’t watch him enough to understand that.
Lamar is great, I love Lamar but people need to really stop pretending that he is the greatest QB to have ever lived and people really need to understand that “Work Ethic” doesn’t mean you will succeed at the highest level.
If Lamar does not win a SB his deal is a categorical failure for the Ravens - FACT. Wins in regular season don’t mean anything if you can’t win the actual highest pressure game. Nothing I said was outrageous, the only person who doesn’t know what they are talking about is the guy who thinks that Lamar is the best thrower in the league and is literally unbeatable and that regular season wins means a player is worth a kings ransom.
