With all the rabaconda comments you would think I'd be sponsored by them lol. Guys, there is always a better tool out there. I have to reeeeeaaaally prioritize what tools I buy for the jobs I do the most. Sure, a tire changer would be nice but I value the space more when you consider I don't often do tires, just recently have a wave of them. I'd love a mill, better TIG, bigger lathe, paint booth, powdercoat setup, dedicated dirty room, sand blast cabinet, and many more things but I am lucky to have what I do.
Ok Ok Ok. I am impressed. Yep. This video is incredible. Thank you for sharing this. Inspirational. My update: Finally 'cleaning up' my bike. Crazy but it's much cleaner than I originally thought. The rubber in the petcock is brand new, is marked with a red dot ~ rebuilt? ~ and the tank is not bad with some not so bad gas that I drained out. This is the container find ~ the cb750 ~ has a West Virginia inspection sticker from 2007 ~ my hopes for a clean start with a new battery and air filter with a complete new lock set? (No key and no title) ~ Maybe bypass the carburetor rebuild. Not sure. Anyway. Nothing but respect and awe ~ You have mad skills and so creative. Keep the faith man. Thank you.
You do such great detail work. It's nice that you have a network of people to help you without breaking the bank. I'm rebuilding an XR400 and wanted to powder coat the frame. The guy wanted $500!
Ahh man, I've loved watching this because it reminds me of all the work I did on my XS250. I also made delron inserts for the footpeg brackets, and the handlebar clamps too. The original rubber mounts on both were sloooopppyyy.... Also - nice freakin t-shirt! ❤️
Hi BJ this bike is going to be beautiful man, know I’ve said it before but your welding is top notch sir ,lovely machine with the best of the best guys building it have a great day guys amazing work from you both 👍👌🏍️🏍️🔧🔧🔧❤️
Watching you put on that tire makes me agree with your idea that you need a machine like you saw at the Bearded Mechanic (I think I'm just going to the nearest tire shop for when I need it)
@denzaloneal4192 Well I have been posting updates on the project. Many asked for updates and when I posted videos they simply tanked. Only caused unsubscribes for some reason
Nice building again i have my Yamaha still waiting on my motivation to start it. My friend who builds exhausts for living said that it would be crucial for the welder to put some welding gas inside the pipe when you use a tig you can mig without gas inside the exhaust but tig is a different thing. he said the seams are much better that way also from the inside. The same applies if you're tig welding a gas tank.
What your friend is referring to is welding stainless. You need to backpurge when welding stainless as to not contaminate the weld area and cause crystallization. Mig or tig welding steel doesn't matter.
Seeing your channel, via thanks to The Bearded Mechanic, and you doi g an adventure bike, I've decided to take a new route with my 1967 Puch Allstate and make it more into an adventure bike. Granted it is a lower HP unit, 2 stroke but was made when dirt roads were a thing and it's made for such types of terrain. Mine won't be pretty by anymeans like what you are building.
Man I wish I could TIG weld like you. You should put out a video of tips and tricks to MIG and TIG welding, I know there is a A LOT to it, but just even some does and donuts and basic techniques you use would be cool
I have thought about that but even though I may seem capable, I will never feel like a welding expert. People don't come to this channel for welding tips as there are so many amazing channels out there dedicated to doing just that. Thank you for the thought though 🤘
When shaping the epoxy (or bondo or whatever) first use 120 grit, then when the shape is how you want it so 1 220 grit run over it, lastly to get to hard to reach spot, corners and so on, use a red scotch (about 350 grit) to matten everything down. Done!
As always liking what you do just a bit iffy on the aluminium spacers in the forks rubbing against hardened steel springs without a washer in between but I'm sure you thought about that and it's fine
I've been so excited for this build to come together! Are the wheels straight up bronze or is it a combination of pewter and gold or something? They look great! As I have mentioned awhile ago, I also have an xs400 that was cobbled together and looks/ rides really good so far. I have always wondered about taking it to the next level though and this video series is pushing me that direction. Hell, I just want to go ride it right now! Keep it up BHB!!!
Hey bj i looked all over the comments but i cant find one that says what bars you used on tina the barn find cb750. Also im really excited to see an update on the this bike you do some of the coolest builds ive ever seen. Especially your cx builds.
I think this entire video is a sales pitch for Rabaconda lol. Among other answers Ive given is simply cost. There is always a top of the line tool I could buy for any job. I can't always spend top level money on every tool to make every job easier. That is a never ending cycle and I can't afford that.
That Delrin sure is stinky, I work with it all the time at my job. I work as a CNC operator. Curious if you've looked at the Rabaconda street bike tire changer system. I've watched a bunch of video's showing the procedure using it and watched a friend use his. I bought the kit, I'm pretty close to using it, but there's still some 200 or so miles left on the front tire of my 2006 Yamaha Stratoliner S, so it waits, mocking me... Thanks for another video!
Top-out springs. Needle roller swing arm bearings will make that bike HANDLE like you can't believe. Make it your legacy !!! Why not rubbers in the foot-peg mounts?
Looking so nice bj! I have a random as question for you, do you ever go back to a workshop manual to reassemble bikes like this that you have stripped down 100% or do you just have so much experience now and good labelling that it all goes back from memory/experience? Just curious? Cheers legend!
I use manuals constantly so I don't have to remember. Usually when I work through the many tech questions I get daily my response is to look at the manual lol.
Nice! This will help me greatly just working on my 79. I just had the tank painted. Although it only has 600 miles and the paint was good it was that horrible blue color. Wtf Yamaha ! Went with black, what other color is there anyway!
Do it your way but is a lot easier to mount a tire without those silly zip ties, by doing it one side at a time isn't so stiff and you don't run the risk of scratching the rim. I did it old school at ten years old alone, both of you dudes are huffin and a puffin lol... And yes I get it, you won't pinch the tube your way, you don't need skill just brute force... Still, I'm liking the show, lots of good work.

Sounds about right to me, I had a rear and front sportster powder coated black it cost $300
I really like this “progressive” format much better BJ. I wish more channels would start doing stuff this way. Have an excellent week 👍🏻😁

I haven't read that mentioned as an area of concern so I never thought to have one
A really nice looking build. The satin finish on the frame looks classy compared to the usual gloss. The wheels also look great.

Also wondered why you weren't using oil to lubricate when milling out on the lathe? (it sounded like it was on the breaking point!)
Parting operations always sound terrible regardless of lube or not.

Shouldn't there be bushings at the bottom of the pipe comp? There seems to be a groove for them.
I assume you are talking about the forks but maybe Im wrong. These forks don't have a dedicated bushing on the bottom.
Yes you right. My question was about fork. Thanks for your answer. 🤝🏻
