fun fact : this episode is actually the first chapter of the manga when it started in a shounen/young boy magazine, so that's why it has some wackier elements like the French leader and cool way to introduce thorfinn and askeladd before they dive into how they got to there. After this, the manga moved to a seinen/adult magazine and the story got a bit more grounded (with thors' backstory and stuff).
Fun tidbit: that Frankish general's name is Jabbathe (mentioned at 18:09) and he was apparently named and designed after a certain character in Star Wars. I'm pretty sure you can figure out which one.
Love how this anime draws characters realistic enough to recognize the aging and facial features..even if it slightly. I am not saying this anime draws realism...I am just saying it is realistic ENOUGH..like in some anime, the biggest difference between characters is their hair color..so to make someone look older, you have to like make their hair white or make them crouch down.. But with this anime..that's not the case as seen with Askeladd
Production fun fact Vinland was a show that WIT never saw as a priority but the director wanted to give it his all until he and his team were separated from WIT and not even another studio was given, so the director voluntarily went with the project and producers to mappa where he had schedule freedom with the second season compared to other shows but didn't get as many resources for it. The second session looks so much better then the first session i promiss in terms of art direction and even direction

Interesting. Thanks for sharing that information.

I too ended up taking a break from bob, midway some months ago and forgot to continue. Might try finishing it.
It's a great series.
I'm still waiting for a proper berserk adaptation it would be so funny to see you react to it. Or the old anime or the golden age anime
Christine would never watch that, and I saw the original back in High School. No idea if I would ever revisit it.
@@TheGenreVerse hehe.
