The Ork one made me smile a bit. To quote an Ork player in the comments section of another video, pitting an army of Orks against Custodes on tabletop is the most un-fun way to play 40k. The Custodes' universal 2+ saves, their high invulnerable saves (4+ or better) and other situational bonuses make them functionally immune to Orks at range (due to Ork armies' very low ranged hit percentages and weapons with low - or no - armor penetration), and ALL of the Custodes' units are absolute beasts in melee even before you count the melee bonuses they can get from their Martial Ka'tah ability or their Martial Mastery detachment ability. The poor guy said that the best he could manage to do is camp out on Objective markers and throw all his Boyz into the Golden meat-grinder in the hopes of slowing them down enough to win by victory points.

Wait let me get this straight. The space elves thought they could just storm into the palace and go right to Big E himself? And that he’d totally be cool with slaughtering his Custode Guards? 😆
There are a number of rubbish BL writers. Some who care nothing for lore like C.S. Goto. Others who have a hard time with writing good pacing. If memory serves Horus Rising suffered from that particular problem. ABD can write good characters the problem (aside from his personal politics if that's your thing) is that he doesn't write particularly good villains.
Potential spoilers for folks how haven't read the Nightlords Trilogy/Omnibus. Stop reading here if you care.
So the main cast are mostly Nightlords right. Murderers and the like. Cold blooded killers whose only route to ascension is typically either your predecessor dies in battle or you fight them in a duel for their position. The idea is planted in our minds that the MC Talos has friction points in his squad, some who want his position, some who think he is weak. And the times when he is wounded and vulnerable do any of his potentially traitorous fellows take advantage of it? No. Not once. The only point of treachery that comes out is near the end of the trilogy and it isn't even a betrayal of Talos.. The Nightlords are supposed to be pitiless murders with little to no bonds of loyalty. Yet they demonstrate being a close-knit almost military squad.
Don't get me wrong I like most of the characters. But that blue balling of internal strife that is supposed to be the calling card of a Chaos Warband and Nightlords in hindsight is painful.
Eldar lore is plagued with bad writing or things that make them look either incapable or stupid.
Eldrad didn’t bother telling the Harlequins about the throne, presumably to get back at them for the classic slapstick they regularly put him through.
As for massacring the custodian guard. They kept shouting "we come in peace" people would try to kill them, they would retaliate, continue loop.

the lore inconsistency's is just problem endemic to the custodes as a whole. their lore and how their faction works never really got fleshed out all that much until the last ten years or so.
You must not be familiar with 40k then
@@Scowleasy i'm very familiar but i've read a lot of the heresy books, and the writers can't seem to decide for a decent amount of time just how powerful the custodes are. and before the heresy they were pretty much a background faction that rarely appeared in the lore.
That's the weird part. GW wanted to expand upon the lore but didn't want to spend the time and money to have the lore devs and the book writers in the same room it seems. Thus leading to instances where the Custodes are straight up retarded or the greatest thing in the universe. Or Eldar who are supposed to be so far above humanity with their hover tanks and the like yet are somehow in marvel at the smoke belching treaded tanks of humanity.
Side note: Making the Custodes the greatest thing in the universe next to the Primarchs was never a smart lore decision because they become almost impossible to work with. I give you the rage that happened with the Norn Emissary and all the rage that came from that. Or the Harlequin attack. I'm sure I'm missing a couple of examples too. For that matter, the same problem exists for things like The Swarmlord and Avatar of Khaine. Lore-wise they are supposed to be imposing foes except they have been bested so many times they are the same level as Worf from Star Trek.
Just keep faith, followers of the God-Emperor. Both He, and his most trusted vanguard, work in mysterious and sometimes unpredictable ways. Praise be to He who protects, for he may be immobile, but still ever omnipresent

In a way, I can understand why the Thunder Warriors were used instead of Custodes. Not just meaning the numbers or techno things. But simply Custode dying off to attrition or the occasional random thing happening. Even if they would've been succesful and very effective, a lot of them just dies due to random battlefield things.

@@capadociaash8003 Or he would dislike the Imperial Cult under Lorgar in some of the futures within his psychic foresight, so he decide to shove Lorgar later on after excessive amount of warnings with terrible arguments, then Emperor sticks to build Imperial Cult as one of his contingency plans, considering that's what pretty much happened in the Volume 2 or 3 of The End and The Death, so imperial Cult was foreseen by him but thrown as afterthought
(that is, until Magnus broke the carefully constructed human webway of Emperor's actual main project (to move most of human's integral planetary systems into webway then proceed to shield most of humans while improving the starvation plan of chaos gods, this on top of Drach'nyen appearing in the broken Emperor's webway also doesn't helped the main project that got thrown into ruination either, Emperor is explicitly saying that he doesn't know what to do the moment his webway got broken and all of his foresight just thrown into his own despair, hence why Drach'nyen have metaphysical significance of capable of ruining his mortal form/physical body)

For Astartes I imagine their opinion of Custodes is very complicated.
Probably because Space Marines are usually pretty independant but cannot dismiss Custodes orders like they're use to. When you have a lot of pride, it's hard to be bossed around without the possibility to even talk back.
Pretty much every description from a space marines perspective of a custodian fighting other space marines is about as close to fear as a space marine can get, because they talk about how it seems that they were specifically designed by the emperor to be really good at killing space marines

One scene I love from Godblight in the Dark Imperium books, one of the Custodes with Guilliman, the Custodian Tribune Maldovar Colquan, fought a Death Guard Champion. It was brief but epic, with the Custodian finding a worthy opponent for better showing off his skills.
Plus a bit of trivia: a Custodian Tribune is one of ten veteran Custodes that acts as Trajann Valoris's advisors and are the second highest authority of the Custodes.

There are Custodes that have business off of Terra. There's the SCP Foundation dudes, and the prophecy bodyguard ones. I forget their actual names 'cuz I'm stupid and too lazy to look 'em up.
The first guys maintain containment on, and seek to capture for the purposes of containment, things dangerous to the galaxy at large, especially things originating from the Dark Age of Technology. Usually they fit in with the other "bum around on Terra" types, but occasionally are sent out to confirm or capture some doohicky.
The other guys are the ones who act on psychic visions that any of the more respected psykers in the Imperium have. Say some psyker has a vision of an Admech Magos happening to be in the right place at the right time to intercept and disable a Necron doomsday device that is going to bowl through some key Imperial sectors. A few of these guys are going to go out and try to find this guy, and keep him alive and on track to do whatever it is he's supposed to do; sometimes from the shadows, sometimes overtly. They may also run counter prophecy duty, in a similar manner.
These are the custodes most likely to be encountered outside the Sol system, along with the handful that are dispatched for supremely high priority milk runs and the like. If the Tau were going to run into any Custodian, it would be one of these.
There's also the pretty much unwritten, but honestly kinda defacto duty of Sister of Silence escorts. If there's some real bad demonic stuff going on somewhere, the Sisters of Silence are the best answer to the issue, and the Custodian bodyguards are insurance they don't get caught up fighting Orks or being turned into armor paint when the Grey Knights show up to do a worse job or something. This isn't exactly well defined, since it's newer material that isn't Primarch wank or related to Cawl's new and easily trademarkable meat toasters, so, bucket of salt and whatnot. Chuck it in the bin along with the Votann as a faction, I guess?

I want GW to release a brand of 40K condoms. They can have the different sizes range from emperor to custodes to space marine to guardsman. The slogan naturally being the emperor protects.

Surely the guardsman one would be bigger than the space marine and/or Custodian ones? Seeing as how all the supersoldiers are made sterile on purpose by the Big E. Having relationships or even children would just be taking their minds off waging war (for the Astartes) or off protecting the Emperor (for the Custodes).
The only problem is that 99% of 40k fans have no use for condoms 😭

They would technically lose to the inquisiton, as even custodes gotta eat, and inquisiton is not above pulling strings to starve out Terra.

Like sure Custodes kick ass but even assuming they win on the ground (which is doubtful for most factions), SMs, Admech, Inquisition and so on have huge navies. The Custodes have ships but very few relatively speaking

Always wondered how the custodes were around other factions since i kept getting either the harlequin or "custodes sit around the throne all day so probs no interaction" ans. Especially surprised by the dark eldar one
They sometimes have to head off to do very specific secret missions for the emperor.
The Dark Eldar one is from a book where a bunch of inquisition go to a moon to meet up with some Custodes at a beacon, but when they arrive the Custodes are gone and the beacon is covered in blood and Drukhari tech. The inquisition then deems the Custodes "unrecoverable"

So there would be no need for the culling at isthvaan and weakening of the traitor forces.. this would be very intresting to see what all the effects would be on the succes of the heresy.

To be fair the Harlequin and Custodes fight was old lore when Custodes were little more than slightly better space marines.
Not quite that old though.
I feel it is very important I say that I am really happy that, via Imperial Agents, at least Imperium factions can finally field requisitioned Deathwatch Marines, Grey Knights Terminators, or Sisters, and I get that some people don't appreciate that, or feel it unfair how Chaos and Xenos don't get as many, but it's a little bit too bad that the literal best bodyguards in the galaxy can't field that way, and protect other high-value targets, like Leontus, or Guilliman. I do think it would be fun, though, to see a really talented Custodes player go up against a good Ork player, or World Eaters, to see how well they cladh against other majorly- melee lists.

Fabius has indeed made creations from the stock of custodian material. In 8th edition during the war of the spider when creations of bile was introduced, there was an enhancement you could give any of your HQ units which made them a twisted custode.

Clarification:
The story about Harlequins killing Custodes was from the book "The Beast Arises, Book 5 - Throneworld" by Guy Haley. The problem with this scene ist the simple fact that it was written before the first Custodes Codex dropped, so there hadn't really been any infos on how powerful the Custodes actually are. We just knew that they're more powerful than the Astartes, but not by how much or in what way.
Guy Haley assumed that Custodes were basically on par with elite Terminators, so to speak. Combined with the fact that the Harlequins fielded a Shadowseer and a Death Jester equiped with a Shrieker Cannon, this story didn't feel as much "bullshitty" as it does today, now that we know of what Custodes are truly capable of.
It's just that the plan of the Harlequins was endlessly dumb. Usually Guy Haley is one of the better Black Library writers, but Throneworld is definately not his best work and that Custodes Codex didn't help him at all in this regard.

My head canon for the harlequins attack on the custodies is that it was like 3 solitaires or equivalent against a single custodian. Given the custodian’s were younger in this case they got their asses handed to them while the older more experienced custodies ripped through the harlequins like wet tissue paper. Basically, they massively outnumbered the younger custodians and dog piled them.
And why doe custodes always need to be stronger than everyone else?

The only real way to beat one would be hitting them with heavy weapons or being a primarch. Of course, since they are the biggest guys, many writers want to use their deaths to show how powerful their own characters are.

You just kind of made that up. 2 regular space marines aren't nearly the strongest in the universe so why would only primarchs beat them exactly? 3 the whole idea that a character can only be killed by a stronger character rather than stuff like being outnumbered, being trapped, being outgunned, making a mistake, etc. makes no sense. 4 no, worf happens to the avatar, the swarmlord, greater demons, demon primarchs, etc. Not to custodes. Trying to describe a whole faction as unkillable or unbeatable is exactly the delusion of custodes fans. A necron overlord should slice through a 100 custodes like butter if we took all the lore seriously but that's not how 40k works.

My biggest problem with the Harlequins vs Custodians thing is that the Harlequins aren't even remotely close to being that strong on the tabletop. An Eldar super-elite force a la Custodes would be cool though...
Future idea: host a Warhammer q&a where you address some common questions from the fandom (I have many)
With the harlequins mulching custodian guard, I think it’s more likely that the author confused normal harlequins for solitaires than confused Lucifer blacks for custodians

I think you've missed one crucial point: out of all the chaos marines, it would seem that the Alpha Legion is the most familiar with Custodes - what with Alpharius having a personal rivalry with Constantin Valdor and supposedly being the source of the Blood Games. At the same time, I don't recall any major engagments between the two - my guess being either that because of this familiarity, they know their usual tricks wouldn't work and avoid them like the plague, or that in their agenda of purging the Imperium of its weak links, they have no reason to interact with the golden bois to begin with - implying that out of all of Imperium, Custodes are the only part that's perfect as it is.
Also, all the above is a lie.
I liked it better when they couldnt make more custodian's, made them seem really rare and unreplaceable

Necrons : Sleeping
Tyrannids : Didn't knew of Milky Way
T'au : Banging rocks together in their stone age

Leontus wasn't -guarded- by the Custodes. The Norm Emissary jumped toward Leontus and the Custodes, who were on their way to extract/protect Leontus managed to intercept it in the last second before it landed on Leontus.
In addition to that, Leontus isn't a "high ranking general"; he's the Lord Commander of Segmentum Solar, which is the second highest position in the Imperial Guard and they only answer to the Lord Commander Militant (which regularly has a seat among the high lords on Terra and deals mostly with the bureaucraty and politics) and have pretty much full autonomy on what they do in their segmentum. Lord Commander Militant > Lord Commander > Lord General Militant > Lord General > General.
Considering the new lore, I think referring to the Custodes as your favorite “guys n’ gal” is rather appropriate, since I suspect the proportion of Female to Male within the Custodians is similar to the proportion of males and females who watch your videos
