THANKS for the comments on how smooth & powerful the hydraulics are on the 330. I was part of the team that designed the hydraulic system on all Cat excavators (& many other Cat machines. Controllability (smoothness, predictability) was a major objective - and overall efficiency as well. Lower skilled operators have become more common and we wanted to help them, as well as the highly expert operators, to be highly productive over an 8 hour shift.
You seemed to adapt quickly to running the machine - having experience on other machines helps.

@panhandlejke6200 the next gen systems are great. We have a 349fl and 349 next gen. The difference is night and day. Doesn’t help the fl has almost 10,000 hours on it and the next gen only has 4500 hours they both run epirock hammers the fl runs a 4700 and the next gen runs a 5800 in a stone quarry. They get run between 16-20 hours a day 5 days a week and 6 hours on Saturday.

@@jjeanes2214 Thanks for that info. Quarrying is a tough application and I hope you get many MORE hours out of both machines. This is what my grandparents did they dug three holes as deep as they could with the backhoe and put the dirt beside it. It. Those were the garbage burn holes and each lasted about 5 years. Then they we topped off with dirt and leveled out now the whole area is a croquet, badminton and camping area for family reunions.

Awesome job! You definitely have the right tool for the job. Be carefully when clearing trees with a large excavator, as you have enough power and speed to accidentally throw a log towards the machine. It can take less than a second for a log to flip back at the cab. Stay safe, enjoy the nice machine!

As noted by others, it's a UA-cam production and the entire project would not be practical or economically sound otherwise. Meanwhile, we get first-rate entertainment.

Are you planning on using a forestry mulcher on the "waste" wood? The drum type mulchers allow the mulch to be used for compost or at least return those nutrients to the soil, and would prevent the need to burn the "waste" wood. You might even find somebody locally that needs the mulch, or at least some of the mulch.

He goes over the unit and checks every area for issues, the lubes every point, checked every fluid. And refills the fuel tank. If you want those Machi es to work for you every day, you should do the same. Running out of fuel so often should be teaching you a lesson. JMO.

i think a 16t is just as powerfull in many cases..
the missing front showel/stand on this one, moves all the presure to the wheels when you are working..
placing that front thing down gives 20-50 % more power in some cases
depending on what way you are aplying force
a small machine is also often more easy to get closer to the objects so less power is needed
no fun in using a 40ton on the edge of a hole for example
it would be 10 times faster to smooth the road after with a 16t with a showel in front for example
old machines also often have a lack of power, and this does not look like a 2023 model
(i have had a couple of machines they gave me the renting period for free, when i pointed out the dangers and lack of service)

I have run a Cat 349 with a 78" bucket. It is quite a bit bigger than the 330. The empty bucket weighed 12,000 pounds and the machine is listed at around 110k pounds depending on how it is setup, according to cat specs. That bucket was so big that there was just barely room to smooth out the dirt in a Super 10 dump truck as the teeth would be almost touching the operator's side the and the back of the bucket close to the other rub rail. It only took 3 scoops to fill a truck. Unfortunately, while that machine had a display for the weight of material being moved, it was not setup or available so we had to estimate the weight and watch the returned weight tickets for the 4500 loads we hauled out of that job site.

Not sure if you’ll see this or not but with that hammer only hammer with it for no more then 30 secs at a time, then stop for about 5 seconds. This will help the hammer from over heating, by letting off for a few seconds it allows the hydraulic oil to work its way through the cooler and keeps the hammer from over heating. Make sure you use what ever hammer paste came with the rental or what the manufacturer recommends.
I speak from 6 years (and counting) experience running them in a stone quarry for over 10 hours a day. Also that hammer paste can get expensive so make sure the greaser (if it has one) is adjusted correctly. They paste we use cost about $26 a tube for us one tube last about 4 hours.

Ramps on both side they walk up. A bucket lid with a swing trap door. Mouse, walks up to eat walks out of the swing trap lid. And falls into the bucket. Fill the bucket 1/3 with water. Also. Under the bottom, all around the building, spray it with borax. And stuff , stainless steal, pads in each hole, after you dip them in a toxic ? Also inside the garage. Buy 2 or 3 (( sonic mouse rat )) you just plug them in the wall they keep them away. And there safe for dogs.

You should look into filling your equipment up at the beginning of the day. Get a tank to put on trailer for fuel storage with that large of equipment you will go thru a lot of it.

They do have a large diesel tank on a trailer.

Fuel tanks should be top off at the end of the day, not at the beginning.
The cooler temperatures at night cause condensation in a tank. With a full tank, there is less moisture containing air.

Resolve the hose, add a protector and put it back together.
Google it. Very common problem like I said.

It's so cute seeing you guys so hype over that excavator. It's small compared to some of the excavators I've operated. But it reminds me of how excited I was the first time I saw and operated my first big excavator.

When you operate equipment, particularly heavy equipment, you need to daily check your fluids and do an inspection to catch any potential problems. This is critical now that you have that many machines and novice operators. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. Good luck I enjoy your content and I'm rooting for you.

Good video! Always make sure the coupler is properly secured to the attachment. I have seen a few mishaps with attachments falling off, some funny, some a delay in working. I have heard of bad coupler accidents, but never had one myself. On lifting or pulling stumps, the closer you are , the more lifting capacity you have. I like renting and buying Cat equipment. Even on my 1949 road grader I can usually walk into the dealership and walk out with the parts I need.

It looks like you have everything lined up for successful taming of the road.
I was thinking you now need a mini mill to make lumber from your trees but you addressed that.
Wear, tear and regular maintenance is ongoing.
I really hope your rental agreement includes maintenance and repair on the big Cat.
With the early progress you have made, it looks like this summer will be much more more than the road. You now have a tiny community.
    Time for an equipment barn
Love watching you work and achieve.
    Keep it safe 🎉

You asked about suggestions for equipment at one point and I am thinking Telehandler ( extendable fork lift) However it appears you may be done on the roof and done with sheetrock in the shop, at lest for now. So, if you do decide to build a separate home, maybe get one before that project.
I also don't like highs and this feels so much better then climbing on and off a ladder to me. Just hook up the man basket, which is about the size of the basket on a scissor lift, and set it on the edge of roof and step over or back. if you actually slide down before you get the bracket installed for the safety line, it is a big target to slide into before falling off the roof.

Love that you get to play Tonka with the big gear. Please lighten up on the sticks though! Banging them stop to stop is obscenely hard on the gear. Keep in the back of your mind that you're now playing with 1000 hp instead of 45.

    • @CGT80
      @CGT80 Рік тому

Only 275 hp. Even the 349 that I have used is under 500hp. You are right about the amount of force the bigger machines have and the weight they can move. The 78" bucket on that 349 weighed 12k pounds empty, which was a little big for that machine when moving heavy dirt. That hammer would be fun. I have only used the hammer on our 420f2 backhoe but breaking concrete flat work was like raking gravel by hand compared to running a jack hammer. It made me really focus on being precise and careful with my movements and of course I had to watch the angle on the bit to not damage the slabs we were saving.
