Im sorry if im boring but take an advice from me, dont jump out of the escavator, you maybee dont feel anything now but after years of jumping out the knees will take damage. Step yourself down and use your arms on the handlebars. You will thank me later.
I absolutely second this advice, trust some old dudes who did not listen to the old dudes and are now paying the price. It may not seem like much and it's so much faster but repetitive impacts are brutal on the joints. Riley I just have to say that your ingenuity, drive and skills are really impressive and so much fun to watch. Courtney is as well and the two of you together is a recipe for beautiful creations 😊
For our machines when we are breaking, we have a chunk of plexan we hang in front of the main window. It takes any hits instead of the glass. Chunk of that and some bungee cord to hold it up, could save you a damage claim!
Riley you probably already know, but when you were tightening that hydraulic line with the channel locks, you had them upside down and they don't lock as they are supposed to and will slip, just saying !
Excellent job you guys! Keep up the hard work. I know the pressure that comes with equipment rentals, there is a ton of pressure on you to get the most out of the rental. At my previous job we rented a CAT D8T at well over 10k per week. What a machine! Have fun and don't burn yourself out!
I can see Riley shopping for various spare hydro fittings, couplers, repair unions, hose, hydro oil and all the jib jab tools for getting repairs done on the property now that the collection of equipment is creeping up. 😊
Happy 4th guys! Another great video! Dump a bottle of vegetable oil or dish soap in that standing water pond that has all the mosquitos in it. That will take care of the adults and larva almost immediately.
At the concrete ready mix company I retired from our concrete truck's hydraulic lines would rub through and leak until the industry got wise years back and started securing hydraulic lines in some kind of plastic or nylon hose looms. Since then hydraulic line rub throughs has become a thing of the past.
Prevent hose/wire chaffing with old heater/coolant hoses. Cut a 4-6" piece slit down length then wrap around hose/wire and zip tie it snugly in place. Will normally work for years and you reuse the old hoses we throw away.
Seeing you are new to such a big & heavy machine, it is not hard to break the point on the hammer, which are not cheap, don't pray the rock using the hammer point.
Glad to see the progress. Vote for more videos. Good thing Riley is an amazing Operator He is not a stand up comedian. With all the equipment it is time for the real Operator to get her turn. Looking. Great keep up the great work. Thanks
I don't know why.. but I love hammering with an excavator..I have done it for years... and I don't get bored often. I worked in Squamish and Whistler BC. I had two Cat 330 for myself so that I don't have to change from buckets to hammer and vice versa. The hammer had automatic greasing .. so that saved time as well. It was one of my most enjoyable jobs.
Pressure wash the radiator and hyd. Oil cooler , or blow the debri out of the radiator and oil cooler with an air hose, this is regular maintenance in dry dusty weather.
You realize they have no idea of what they are doing Road Construction Wise. Yes? NO? While I LOVE LOVE LOVE your comment 😍. This road will never be truly safe because of Snow/Ice and Rain on a mountain. A solution for this escapes me. If it were only Rain? A swale to catch the rain. Since they are living in a Four season climate. Frost plays a rather large factor in road building for the winter. For the summer? Where does the Rain Water or the Winter Runoff go? These are things that Riley has not even thought about YET! I hope he has thought of this and for the "ditch" to prevent a possible "washout", he has plenty of rocks for the ditch to prevent erosion of the road during heavy rain and or snow melts :) What is that old saying "Never Give Up and Never Surrender"!
OMG, those were the best days! Those two went as fast as they arrived! It's mind boggling how MUCH money MC Hammer made & blew through in such a short amount of time!
@@paige6028 you are right about that. Amazing how two words brings back memories. The gorgeous lady I took to the concert and I had to drive a 100 miles to see it she was crazy about Vanilla Ice
My dad used to operate heavy equip. He was an engineer. He worked for the Corps of Engineers. He helped build Hoover Dam. This reminds me of him. Thx !
I have a 289d and that hose is a constant 6 - 1 years problem. I wrapped it where it goes thru the cab and it helps. But still need to maintain the wrap.
go even wider than you think you have to and take out more trees, crown the road nd put in good ditches on each side - it is a job even with the big machinery
Looking good! That big Cat excavator sure is a game changer when you add in the rock hammer. Have you guys considered renting a roller to compact the road bed. A solid road bed won't be as vulnerable to becoming mud every time it sprinkles, and won't swallow all the gravel in the same way, especially since your driveway is going to get a lot less use than a standard road. Put down a layer of dirt/aggregate /etc, then compact it, repeat. The quality of the base is key to any road. And it will really help when it comes to having the ability for heavy vehicles to reach your homestead. Glad Bailey is better. Are the dogs enjoying having Oliver to investigate? Enjoy your summer!
Great video... didn't even blink. I can hardly believe how big your rental is. Is Oliver cooing at you and Courtney and the dog it just wanting in the equipment?? He is adorable! See you all next time. From Central Okla.
Have you thought about pumping out of the pond to like a fire hose so you can wet the dirt down for compaction? And if you did, I maybe wouldn’t show that part due to possible EPA issues.
Riley, when you pour you fluids from a 5 gal container, put the spout up top that way you won’t get a huge glug that misses your funnel. Great vid, can’t wait to see the road start to take shape. Like to watch how you get so excited in doing things that many other people don’t usually see.
The shot of you working the machine through the trees is like watching some prehistoric creature reviling over it's kill in the fastness of the high Rocky mountains
11:21 Put a capful of Dawn dish washing soap into that little pond and it will eliminate the surface tension of the water and the mosquito larvae will sink and drown.
I figured why the videos are awesome- as kids TONKA TRUCKS ruled !!! They were yellow- when the Hitatchi comes in screen its :yeP good job keep going- gettin 'er done" but when the yellow pops in screen " ALLLRRAAGHT. WHATS FURST !" Happy Canada Day here and for you Happy Freedom Day ! :)
Hey Riley! We love watching your progress on that road! Just to let you know, my husband who has 50+ years of heavy equipment experience as a mechanic and an operator, says you have the tracks too tight on the dozer. It causes undue wear and tear. 1-1/2" of slack is optimum. He's the experience, I'm just passing along the info.😊 Keep up the great work! Love the videos!
Great videos doing super cool stuff. Maybe you could include a map showing what the road is/was which would make it much easier for us to visualise what you are doing. Don't have to show a real map even just a mockup made on paint would work. Just a suggestion. Would watch the videos regardless though. Love to see people doing what they enjoy.
just a heads up, when you started hammering your tracks were backwards. the final drives are heavier than the idlers so having them at the rear means you have a little more counterweight. also, if a rock hits your idler it's much less likely to cause damage than it would be to damage the final drives. keep on hammering!
Holy Moly, there is a lot to know, to use heavy equipment correctly. Even at 70, I would pay to work on that road with that team, and equipment. My dad steered me away from heavy equipment when I was young. He was a ship builder, welder, heavy equipment operator, and diesel mechanic at Long Beach ship yard during WWII. When I appeared, he was a motorcycle shop owner. When I expressed an interest in diesel mechanics, he pointed out that diesel parts are big, heavy, and ruin your back. He pointed out that motorcycle mechanics can be done on the bench. Glad I listened I became a computer systems engineer. Computer parts don't weigh much, and you can work on computer hardware from a chair.😎
@@markmitchell457 haha your dad was definitely right. I just had a love for it ever since I was a kid, whenever a garbage truck or school bus went by I was floored. I didn't have any family in the business so had to figure it out myself but operating heavy equipment is something I'm very passionate about. I've worked on everything a little bit, just love to tinker. Built my first computer, my first car and first truck. Haven't rebuilt a tractor yet but I'm sure at some point I'll do that too

Awesome job! Btw there is actually a correct and incorrect way to use a Chanel lock ! Position them so you are pushing on the top lever and they will tighten as u push to prevent slipping.😊
Try spraying out your radiator on your Hitachi with water, I have also kept a water tank to just spray the radiator down occasionally before I fixed the system on mine.
