  • Hello everyone and welcome to my channel.
In today's video, I am comparing the AMD official and unofficial open-source drivers on Linux, so AMDVLK and RADV.
I am testing 7 games at 1440p on Manjaro Gnome, and the performance is very similar, except Borderlands 3, however, when I was using AMDLVK more games froze, crashed or haven't even launched. For example Overwatch.
RADV is recommended, but in my opinion, AMDVLK can be faster in Games with Vulkan, so might be handy to keep both of them.

We need to update the information. As of mid-2022, the following is relevant:
    1) radv is much more productive than amdvlk in the vast majority of cases. In addition, amdvlk sometimes causes crashes. (tested on amdvlk 2022.q2.2 and mesa 22.1.1).
    2) You should not use gamemode. It will not give any performance gain. In addition, it can cause crashes, and very rarely a complete system freeze. It is enough not to keep a lot of resource-intensive programs in the background, or if such are running, give the game a high priority.
    3) Use appropriate distributions, with newer versions of packages. The best is arch. It is also recommended to build a kernel manually with additional processor optimization, which will give a small performance boost.

      Самое лучшее - это Void.

what is "Fsync", never heard of it. Is this some sort of frame cap, or synchronizer, just like RTSS for windows?

Wine patches to help with applications that are multithreaded, IIRC

ua-cam.com/video/o8apCPN56PU/v-deo.html indepth explanation. In short it's a successor to esync which has shown its limits in multithreading synchronization.

I actually thought RADV had a bigger lead over AMDVLK, I guess it's time to benchmark AMDVLK on my 6900XT.

Keep that in mind, that this video is older, and tested on RDNA first gen.

@@beronori Just tested AMDVLK and it works really well. I have both RADV and AMDVLK installed now. AMDVLK is enabled by default but you can easily switch to RADV by setting AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV in .zprofile (or for whatever shell you might be using). Performance wise they are pretty similar, though it felt like the input latency was a bit lower with AMDVLK, but that might just be me. A noticable difference was that the shader compilation took a lot longer with AMDVLK than with RADV. Other note is that AMDVLK shows the name of the card correctly, while RADV still calls the card "SIENNA_CICHLID (ACO)" which is technically correct but not really what you wanna see ;)
