ABOUT US & OUR CHANNEL
We are a expats and a typical black American family living and teaching abroad in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We were born and raised in California but spent most of our adult life in Atlanta, GA where we met at Spelman and Morehouse College.
A few years ago we left our jobs teaching in the United States for a life abroad in Honduras which started our journey. Our channel has 2 goals which have shifted over time:
1. To show black families and people of color what a life abroad could look like.
2. To show the beauty in all countries
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to Addis. I hope your time here will be safe and memorable. But a little alertness is needed to avoid those who snatch mobile and other valuable stuff using motorbikes. Especially take care when you see two individuals in a motorbike around you. I gave you this information in order to make your stay at Addis is free of any negative memory. We have a bunch of religious and cultural holidays mix yourselves with the local people to get the best out of them. Enjoy your time. May GOD Bless your stay.
Congratulations!! And thanks so much for sharing your experience. Addis is about to be one of the best cities in the world. One love!!
It really is!
Yeah, thank you!!❤❤
kkkkkkkkkkkk you have light one two days a week and water once a week __ it is a primitive poor and dumb country !!

As an Ethiopian and caring for your safety I highly suggest you don’t wear rainbow eyeglasses as you can be a target to by some groups who don’t support the LGBTQ.
@@eotceotcthat’s definitely an Ethiopian flag color and not rainbow
@@MeaMay38
Actually you can clearly see orange on the bottom on the red transition and purple on the green transition. Regardless not a risk to take.
Wow this video is so cool and your whole family is full of positive energy. What a beautiful family. Thanks for the video. Btw Addis Ababa looks modern and beautiful. Enjoy your stay
Welcome to Addis beautiful people ❤️ ❤❤❤ Enjoy.
Thank you for sharing.
I am a U.S. citizen currently living in Ethiopia. I was originally born and raised in Ethiopia. No freedom in usa bc police and crime.
Thank you 🎉
Really 😂
But you have freedom in Ethiopia? Really? The police are nice in Ethiopia ? Really?? It is the direst country in the world after Eritrea. Tell the truth. Stop lying.
Parce que vous ne connaissez rien du monde.....😂😂😂😂
@@tignenberhe1081My husband he is originally from USA that what he told me about the police man..."the police here are nicer than his country.

Thanks so much for watching and we absolutely LOVE it so far! Everyone here has been so welcoming and loving. Sadly, that wasn't the case in my home country. We could learn a lot from here.
Unless it’s a matter of time, thousands and millions of people around the world want to live in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Addis Ababa has no competitor in terms of its climate. God bless this beloved country!
All Ethiopians are waiting to go back home, including me and my family.

Your positivity is astonishing... i wish you have a pleasent season in my city. stay blessed!
I'm an Eritrean who spent a month for vacation there. Ethiopians are overwhelmingly one of the most, if not the most friendly and humble people you'll come across in your travels. I mean they are just generally decent to their core. I felt I can live in Addis. Just be aware of your surroundings especially in market areas for thieves and pick pockets snatching phones and purses. It's to be expected in a society where there is huge unemployment and no social safety nets. In fact i would say, its the decency and fear of God of the people that's keeping worse than petty theft crimes from occuring in a city of 7 million. Cheers!
My family is from Ethiopia you will love it there the culture is beautiful and the food, and people are amazing! ❤
welcome to ethiopia🙌🙌

You are so kind! Thanks!
Fun Fact due to Addis Ababa elevation 7,000 ft above sea level the weather is the same year round 50-60 F at night and 70-75 F during the day and the rainy season lasts from May 15th - September 15th.
I didn’t know that! AND that’s GREAT news!
My experience is that the temp varies between summer and winter, but still great weather overall compared to the surrounding lowlands

Your husband can pass as Ethiopian anyways love seeing more of us visiting the motherland.
Everyone keeps speaking to him Amharic! I told him he better learn 😂
Is the school ICS? That is a 40K/year school, your kids are going to get the most privileged education/experience. Following to see your experience, growing up in Addis we never got to see this side . For celery, there is a huge supermarket, about 20 mins away from the school, Queen's supermarket
Yes, it ICS! We are very blessed to work there because our kids get to attend for free.
Well come home sis
Thank you so much 😊

Good idea to take care when crossing the streets
Just wow! I was a Teacher in the US all over from 2002 to 2022. I grew to hate it so I left the field. This is a refreshing story.
I could no longer teach in America. I wasn't healthy at all. The job is unrealistic and they have taken the. humanity out of it.

I just found you all. I saw your interview with H and Dee. I really appreciate when you have the camera forward. That way we see what you see. I have never seen Ethiopia before. I am curious, I love the food and that is all I know. I am now curious
We were able to connect with someone in our community. And she is WONDERFUL! Thanks so much for the tips.
Welcome sis 🇪🇹🤝
Thank you for choosing our nation , especially Addis Ababa!!
Greatings family (Selam), It is great to see your family enjoying Addis. I am glad you are vlogging about it. I'm enjoying the content. The word you were looking for at the end is called "Kedase" . It is a how the Ethiopian Orthodox Christians warship. They warship using an older language called Geez, which is the predecessor of some of their languages. It is also the language that gives them their alphabets. Similar to how Latin is to the Romance languages. I suggest for your family to experience one of those services. There is a church called "Holy Trinity" It is a church that was built by the last monarch of Ethiopia. If you go early Sunday morning before breakfast, you get to experience how Ethiopian Orthodox people worship their creator.
Ethiopia is one of the few countries in the world that gives you an opportunity to experience Christianity as it was in the days of Jesus Christ. Regardless of what your religious background is, there is a lot of wisdom in that. Unfortunately. some of those areas are conflict regions. I hope you get to see some of the areas that you could fly to. The city of Axum, Lalibela and its churches etc...
Wow! Great info! I love the comments we’ve been getting educating us. Thanks so much! We will definitely check it out.
Everytime i see foreigners trying to find basic things in Ethiopia i want to teleport to whete they are and just give them a crash course on Ethiopia.
The feeling of being lost in a foreign country is very difficult.
I commend you for your optimism and gebral accceptance of Ethiopia.
A warm welcome and as we say here "may God raise your children" (its a direct translation which essentially means may God always protect and provide for your children).
We wish you could teleport too!! LOL. Thank you for your kind words. It's been 2 more weeks and every single person has embraced us with love and patience.
The sound u mmention at the end that comes from the church called liturgy (kidase). hoping u attend at least once with a translator. enjoy ur time!
