  • I was using my Black & Decker GH3000 Grass Hog line trimmer in the front yard and the line would break off quite frequently until I figured out what was wrong. In this video I show you how to maintain your Grass Hog so you don't have the same problem. If you find this video helpful please press like and share with your friends. I'll be coming out with more videos soon so be sure to subscribe. Thanks for watching and good luck on your projects.
At some point you will have to replace the spools. The line that comes with these is the same quality as the original.

I have had the exact same experience that you've had. I saw your earlier video and cleaned the cam pin/shaft like you've been doing with Teflon liquid drops because it doesn't leave a greasy residue. That worked to some extent, but this last weekend the spool (an original one that I have not rewound) started acting up. I decided to replace the original head with a new factory replacement and reinstall the old spool into the new head. Within a few feet of use almost all the remaining line was ejected. When pulled the old spool out it had cracked about 75% of the way around it's perimeter and the remaining few turns of line left on the spool were trapped in the crack.
I was doing a search for cracked spools to see if anyone had seen this before and your video came up. I haven't found this problem shown anywhere else. I think there may be something wrong with the spools as well as with the cam sticking. I've kept the spool with the line attached just as it came off the tool and I'm thinking of contacting B&D with a photo of it since you've documented one instance already. Maybe you should too. I'd be interested if others have had the problem as well.
I really enjoy your work. The time and effort you put into your reviews is appreciated and they are always informative and well constructed. Best regards.

John Eberwein My experience with the original B&D spools is not good. So, I've replaced all of mine with aftermarket spools. Thank you for providing an in depth description of your experience. I know this will help others.

I will lube that chingis pivot the next time I replenish the line.
Before storage, I clean the guard and spray it with silicone spray or Pam®.
Doing so reduces crud buildup, and makes cleaning much easier.

I have a different model with the same head. So I ordered what I thought was the missing spring in the head or spool cap. Is there no spring in there to hold the string spool? Because the Black and Decker ereplacement website shows one in the parts diagram. I ordered two. They don't fit. So I'm thinking they don't fit because there isn't one. No spring in yours, correct? Thanks.

sweetiepienumber1 You are correct, there is no spring on this model. It could be that your model requires the spring especially if it is not auto feed. I hope this helps.

I’ve used my grass hog for years but the other day apparently one of the strings on the double spool was kinked and it broke the little black trigger piece. Do you have any idea where I can get a replacement?

You should be able to find them on Amazon as I have. Cheers!

How did you unjam or take out stuck spool from cap? That’s the issue I’m having; can’t get it out!!!

About 25 years ago a friend of mine, an AC repair guy, told me... tap, tap, tap, gently on any part to shake it loose. I used his technique plus a lot of wiggling. I hope this helps.

    Why is the spool wobbling?

    • @WorkMateGuy
      @WorkMateGuy  Рік тому

The spool needs to wobble in the orange cap to allow the mechanism that advances the line to work properly.

have a Black and Decker Grasshog cord trimmer and It doesnt have a whole lot of power. I took it apart and cleaned all the grass and stuff wrapped around it but I still don't have a whole lot of power. Anyone with any tips on how to save it pls help.

The length and thru put of your power cord. Take a short 12 gauge line, plug it directly into a socket and then to your trimmer. If it has more power in this configuration then the line you are using in the yard can't carry the load as it is not enough gauge and/or too long. I use two 12 gauge lines for a total of 75 feet with no problem.

@@WorkMateGuy Not sure what thru put of power cord means but I take it to be that the longer the extension cord the less power I will have. I used the same cord before and after my son used it , now not a whole lot of power. so let me ask you this pls. I am thinking he just tried to power through the whole yard without giving the little Blk and Decker a break. 1) So you have to give them breaks and also that a 2) corded weed wacker isnt ideal for a large yards, a few pastures actually? I need a strong weed wacker but was trying to stay environment friendly. Do you have a recommendation?
      Thank you
