I'm very happy that these types of videos exist.
Thank you for this quick and simple to understand video. My father's weed trimmer needed new line and this was so easy to follow.
Thanks for a very clear instruction on how to do this little job. Watched several others but yours is far easier to understand.
I ordered the wrong replacement spools for my GrassHog. Thanks to your video, I was able to take the string from the incompatible spools and restring my original spool. Thanks very much for posting this. :- )
It's the ninth video I've watched and is the only one that told me what I wanted to know and that was what the notches on the spool was for thanks.
Thanks for the vid, some good tips such as not overlapping the line. Next time, some close-ups would be helpful too.
Thank you!!!this is 2nd time replacing the line and come back washing you video
I'm impressed you can wind your own line. On my previous trimmer, I could. But on this one, no matter how neatly I thought I wound it, it would never feed. So I've have to buy the pre-wound spools.
Thanks a lot! I've been trying to figure this out forever. This video was very straightforward and helpful! Thanks again. Now I can finally do stuff, haha.
these weed wackers will drive you to drink , they never feed the line , no matter how meticulous you wind the spool 😠
It’s ancient technology at this point
Uh Oh. I'm a newly who was hoping this could be my friend, in the land of weeds
Very helpful! It was a lot easier than it seemed after all. And in the video the process was explained incrediby well! Thank you for your help!!
Great video. Could never figure this out before. Always bought expensive pre loaded spools for ten bucks each. Now my bucket list is completed!
God Bless you for this video! I would have had no idea how to do this! I LOVE UA-cam HOW TO DO VIDEOS!!!
This is excellent. It takes the stress and guess work out of the job. Thanks
Thank you so much, these were really great instructions.
mister ur tutorial was the only one i could actually follow 😌THANK YOU! ur so awesome
The line _really_ has to be wound in neatly, because "jamming" will occur - which as most of you know, is very frustrating because you have to stop, take the cap off again, fix the "jam" and then put the cap back on. *Someone should invent a simple device that winds your line for you in this neatly aligned way*. This would be especially useful as the pre-wrapped ones are *ridiculously* expensive ($20 for _3_? No way! How about $10 for 5? That would be better.)
JW3HH
Also, why is his line so short???
Just ordered 3 from Walmart under $10.
Yes, I also get frustrated with all the jams!
@@davidgiffordsr.930 I now have a RY40006 Ryobi 40V setup (bought refurbished for around $100 at Home Depot) with a trimmer head and battery then bought the edger and blower head and this problem has disappeared. It's also WAY easier to load. Later I bought an additional battery so that I always have at least one fully charged. So much better than any others I have used before, including gas powered ones. Literally you just pick it up and squeeze the trigger. And I can edge, trim and blow my corner lot on one battery charge, easily.
DUDE YOU'RE KILLIN IT DON'T LISTEN TO THE HATERS
thank you very much! I was going crazy for days and you solved it super easily and quickly
The holes don't always hold the line securely. I over-insert the line, melt a little blob on the ends with a lighter, then pull it back. Also, it's better to determine approximately how much line it takes to "almost" fill each side of the spool and pre-cut two of those before winding. That prevents the tangled mess Mark was making in this video and allows the line to feed better... obvious that he had never used one of these trimmers ! But otherwise a good demo.
I couldn’t tell from the video where the holes exactly were wish that would have been a little bit more clear
Usually I would attach the line assembly to the trimmer & not to the head. Good advice.
Thank you for these instructions!
Yo you just taught me how to mow my lawn, my dude!
Thank you : )
Thank you. It was very useful.
Thanks!
Thank u. It solved my restringing. 👍
thank you for uploading
Thank you for the help
I have a GH3000 which is a single line feed which I like more than a 2 line. Like the eHow guy says, how to wrap the line on the spool means everything. You have to carefully wrap a single row across the spool, then back again. It's a little tough first time you do it but it gets easier with time. You have no tangle problems due to line feed unless there is something else wrong with your machine.
I'm thinking about purchasing the GH3000, I've heard it goes through a lot of line, do you find this to be true? Thanks!
Sean Craig I have a small front yard, maybe 12x12 ft. and I have a strip of grass along the curb maybe 16ft. Also the grass in front of porch. I edge all of that maybe 6 times with one spool of line & maybe have some left. Hope that helps.
Altair Ramar That seems reasonable...I've heard it uses more line when edging vs just trimming...I just bought the trimmer last night and hope to use it today, thanks for the reply!
Helpful, but close ups would have been great.
Can the upper and lower spools be connected.
True
Thank you much.
thanks i forgot hoy to do this, it WAS ver useful to me
Very helpful. Thanks!
Good video. Thanks man.
Thanks
Thank you.
Be sure to unplug the trimmer before removing the spool.
really?
@@Muilisxx And don't put plastic bags over your head & tie them off. You know, with China V and everything, I'm sure some will be looking to "innovate". Always seems to be a few....
You wound one line counterclockwise, like you mentioned is the correct way; then you wound the other line in a clockwise direction. Such a simple thing to mess up and confuse the viewers and beginners feeding line. Wow.
You know what would be great? If I could see which side you’re putting the line into. Is it inside or outside. Can you do closeups please.
Thanks for sharing
Someone had a similar issue for a black and decker gh710/hg, and here's their vid - How to fix your Grasshog trimmer black and decker gh700 gh600, just search that. They used a rhino mod or similar name.
If I could see what you're doing, that would be a huge help !!
Do you wrap both lines in the same direction (anti-clockwise) or does the second one go in the opposite direction?
He said you wrap in the direction of the arrow that is printed which means they both go in the same direction.
This guy has a better video, it's for the single string eater but it is close up and goes through every step, including the line feeding issue.....he says it works after a few attempts of manual feeding.
MUCHAS GRACIAS AMIGO🤣👍🏻
thank you, so much...... I can do it now...
Thanks bro!
so the line is suppose to come out of those temp holder things once ot's all back together or does it stay in the holder? I keep getting mixed videos
Thanks.
Cool thank you
thanks
It would have been informative to know the diameter of the line her was using. Also whether you can use a heavier line ( .80 ) to keep from using excessive amounts of line.
Nate Ngzcaz Grasshog models use either .65 or .80 depending on the model. My GH710 model uses .65 inch lines. By the way, what are issues if I want to install .80 lines in my grasshog?
Thank you so much 😭
Thanks for the vid
When you install the string for the second spool it crosses over the first spool; is that correct and does the crossover hinder the feen on the first spool?
Hi Mark, I would like to know if there are parts for a black and decker Grasshog xp electric weed eater model GH1000 type 4 it’s been a tough weed eater for me and I can’t find the trimmer head assembly
i don't understand i did the same thing as the video instructed and the wire keeps unwinding and warping around the machine
+Ricky Cardenas THIS!
The same thing for me. I followed all of the instructions. It seemed to work at first but the trim just kept breaking apart and starting unwinding.
b/c ur cutting something too thick
Make sure to lock the spool on its place. Be sure to hear the click.
Does anyone know if its can removed/replaced? Thanks!
i have GL260, black & decker too
Thank you ~^^☆
Is there an accessory than can be use with Grasshog 2000 to make it string free?
I have the B&D GH3000 Type 1 with Auto Feed that I was given. Auto Feed wasn't working so I went to your website and found a part, or a spring in the spool cap in that models parts diagram. I ordered two springs on Ebay. They don't fit. I guess it's because Auto Feed doesn't use a spring? Any ideas? Thanks.
Thank you (excuse my englisch) How many meters are the capacity in the each canal??
I can't get the spool out of the spool unit no matter how hard I try. Is there some trick to it? I have done it before but it's not coming out this time.
Sometimes I have to wiggle the spool clockwise and counterclockwise while pulling up on the spool.at the same time.
What size line? There are several sizes. It doesn't say anywhere on the machine either.
The GH1000 model says to use only .080 round according to the user manual.
Saludos, alguna idea de el por qué sigue botando el hilo y no corta.
I have a 18V blue ridge trimmer. I’ve found the line that came with it 1.6mm is far to flimsy and keeps breaking. Does anyone know if there’s another make I could use that’s the same thickness? Thank you.
My Grass Hog completely stopped working all does is blow air out of the vent. Any idea what this could be?
It’s only counter clockwise if you are looking at the bottom of the spool. On the other side it’s clockwise 😋
Use .065 Trimmer String for Electric Trimmer!
@ERNIE Kaemmerling
It depends on the model, the GH1000, GH1100, and GH2000, use .08" diameter line.
While I am using the trimmer, the line will not feed out. How do I get the line to come out? I would bounce my old weed eater to get the line to come out. Is the line supposed to come out by itself? If yes, how does the trimmer know when to feed out more line?
My line unravels in the spool every time. What am I doing wrong?
It looked in the vid like his hand went in opposite directions when winding both sides, is this right?
He doesn't say clearly...
I have a Black and Decker Grasshog cord trimmer and It doesnt have a whole lot of power. I took it apart and cleaned all the grass and stuff wrapped around it but I still don't have a whole lot of power. Anyone with any tips on how to save it pls help.
when I saw this video was by ehow I knew it would be worthless. I watched it anyway. ehow is very consistent. no closeup = pointless
I think my problem is using "recycled" material for the line (black in color). I eat it up like crazy. When it jams, I notice cuts in the line on the spool that were not there when I wrapped it originally. I'm all for going green, but turning a 1/2 hour job into a 4 hour job replacing line is just not my choice. I've even tried soaking 20 feet of line in hot water to get the curl out as I thought that might be the problem. I bought 3 machines from 3 different big box stores and returned them and all had the same problem. They were all the same machine. So, my guess is that it is the type of line and not the machine. My old machine lasted for years before I had to rewind and it was .6 line. I up graded to .8 or 2 mm. Not an improvement until I get a new spool of line find out. I don't over fill the spool either. All FYI.
Should say what size, type of line.
how to make it let more twine out?
Don't understand this. Sent the wife into the pool to change the spool. Made sure that the electric power was turned on. She not only changed the spool, but she came out alive.
Paul DG jajajajaja
What starter holes...I've gone through other videos...and I looked up black and Decker specifically because I find no starter holes
The starter holes are in the hub.
Black and Decker made a very poor design. . the trick is to put a tape on the stopper. . that little plastic that moves back and forth (it looks like a "coma") and it stops the feeder.. . Once to do this the trimmer works.. . it is a very pooooor design. .. useless.. not a good buy. I wasted my money and my time.
My battery will not hold a charge. Should I buy a new battery?
Doesn’t look like my grass hog at all
How about the single string , all I see on here is double lines
He left like one inch of line on each side to trim. Genius. 😑
So frustrating. my grass hog is nothing like this. I'm confused
Same here
The video lacks instructions on what size line to use. Does anyone know?
Whatever your weed eater needs. Different models require different sizes
Well I asked on THIS video because THIS IS THE ONE I have. 🙄

Thanks but the camera angles don’t help the instruction
Why bother? You've got two cameras. Why no close ups. No explanation beyond a couple of words. I had to infer what was happening. Might as well have found the paper instructions.
Dude - closeups please
wow i couldnt see anything
Not sure why. I was able to see what he was doing and I need glasses.
It didn’t work.
he doesn’t even get closer like what the heck man
I don't have a grasshog. I have a small black And decker weed eater. so where is those instructions? "" DUH???!!!""
I gave a thumbs down because there wasn't enough up close focus of the product itself; which made the video hard to follow.
Paranormal RAW bitch
It wasn’t full……
High
Talk slower and close ups would be way more helpful
Camera too far away
