Rishi's Recession and Chaos - All Part of the Plan?

  • Last week #rishisunak repeatedly claimed that the UK had turned the corner and that his unspecified plan was working. It was also announced that the UK had been in #recession during the last two quarters of 2023. Sunak's previous employer Goldman Sachs published a damning report blaming #brexit for much of the UK's current economic problems.
Social services, the NHS, schools, the Courts, prisons and the military are all desperately in need of further funding and better management. At the same time businesses continue to suffer.
In two by elections at #wellingborough and at #kingsword the Tories were trounced whilst #reformuk gained 11% in one and 13% of the votes in the other showing themselves to be. aserious threat to the Conservatives at the general election especially if #nigelfarage returns as leader.

@@charlie01546 It seems to me, they break as much as possible to make repairing harder, and get the peopleto believe it is as bad under Labour as it is under Tories.
Beside the UK has behaved in a way that the EU will be very reluctant to believe anything a British Government says or signs. All the Goodwill is used up.
The UK is not trustworthy at all any more.
The "my dog ate my homework excuse" "it was the Tories" is not good enough.

In 1997, lucky Blair received a Golden Economic Tory Legacy, the books balanced, small debt but crucially up to £20 billion per year SURPLUS on the national budget.
But Brown blew the lot and went on a wild PFI borrowing spree and wrecked the nation's finances. Millions sucking on the taxpayer's teat.
But then 2010 and no money left but huge debts and deficit.

It might be interesting, but without preparation, it would be foolhardy.
In Ireland, every amendment to our Constitution requires a Referendum. We're well used to them, we'll have two next month.
You need to recognise the dynamic that, whatever the issue, a part of the population will vote it down, simply because of unhappiness with the government that proposed it.
That said, Ireland has a Referendum Commission. It's purpose is to inform the electorate on the issue. They engage Senior Counsel to write the case, for and against, in plain Irish and English.
The Government also takes the precaution of publishing the Heads of the Bill that will be introduced in our Dáil ( Parliament) if the amendment is passed.
Referenda are precarious. You could easily lose a second Referendum.

The current regime has brought the entire political process into disrepute, and totally devalued and abused the very top offices of state. It is a shameful reflection too, that there is a significant proportion of the poulation who seem completely unbothered about the true catastrophic state of the country - indeed some appear to support this scenario, because they would rather die than be in the EU. I've read various comments and seen various vox-pops of people actually expressing that! My personal view is that, the rot in Britain is so far set in, that nothing can now bring about any semblance of a 'normal' country.

    One wheel on my wagon
    And I'm still rolling along
    Them Cherokees after me
    I'm all in flames
    At the reins
But I'm singing a happy song
I'm singing a higgity, haggity hoggety, high
    Pioneers, they never say die
Right around that turn there's a hidden cave
And we can watch those Cherokees
    Go galloping by
The Tories tune on the UK economy. To be sung at Conference.

In Thailand, there's a law that foreigners can not own land or more than 50% of businesses.
Not a good law for me or many expats who have bought property and Pattaya bars in their wife's name only to loose it all. However, it does keep the country in the hands of the Thais instead of it all being owned by foreigners like in the UK.

Up to 2010, this country still felt like the UK I had grown up in (I was born in '64). Then Cameron and co started their austerity to put things right. They arranged Brexit cause that would also improve things and make us Great Britain again (like the days of the empire lol). It would let us kick out all the foreigners (actually that was mainly eastern Europeans that kept our NHS working properly). Oh what a great country we would have. Now we are screwed!!! We are like a third world country, more broken than I can ever remember. The Tories have sold us down the road while lining their own pockets, looking after their family and friends. I don't recognize my lovely country anymore and it is very sad.

One reason, we are being conned, particularly on Energy, Nat Gas wholesale price today, 2p/kW, yet we pay 10/12 p for gas and up to 30p/kw for electric, plus £300.00 Standing Charge and 5% vat. Yet EDF post profits £1.2 billion in UK and Nat Gris £4.6 billion! Who is kidding who with the price cap of £1600 or £133.00 per month. You work it out

As a retired German economics lecturer, I would like to make the following important addition:
If a state reports GDP growth of, for example, 1.0%, this does not mean that each individual will have 1.0% more.
The rich get 5% or 10% or more that year, the ordinary workers get less, not more! They lose out.
That's exactly what's happening in the UK:
Thanks to their Tory government - even many stupid workers vote for them - the wealth of the rich is increasing on a gigantic scale. We read a few days ago that the rich have doubled their wealth in 4 years.
The poor on the other hand lost despite a small GDP growth.
Try to understand that, Brits, even though you are being dumbed down in your schools.

    • @robsucher9419
      @robsucher9419 4 місяці тому +1

GDP per capita is a more relevant measure. But, even that isn't a great measure where there is such a large gap between rich and poor in the UK. Perhaps the (statistical) mode GDP per capita?
