Without spoiling much, Ishamael just wants Rands help to break the wheel and Lanfear loves Rand. The other forsaken are not going to be as nice as those two were with Rand.

I really wasn't expecting to tear up for the scene when Mat blew the horn, but god damn. I read that scene for the first time 20 years ago, and multiple times since, and seeing it like this as a grand production, seeing Mat like this, just * chef's kiss * "Dovie'andi se tovya sagain"

Huge fan of the episode. I cried big with Hopper even though I knew it was coming the moment Perrin told him to stay. I had tears of joy when Mat blew the horn and said the thing. So many great payoffs throughout the whole season all wrapped up beautifully and in such a satisfying way. They even name dropped Sammael in the cold open and we got to see Moghedien? So so so exciting. Please please let us see this thing through to the end!
Matt is a Ta’Veren which means that the pattern twists around him. He always seems to have this unintentional luck. The wheel in a way moves around his actions until he fulfills his role/destiny
The Egwene vs Ishamael fight scene has got to be the most perfect CGI 'magic fight' scene I've seen in recent TV, not to mention the longest. Seamless execution, natural body jerks and snaps, perfect blocking, no weird pauses and wonderful acting. It's like seeing Magic the Gathering artwork come to life. I'm a book reader but I'm trying to be objective with the show, and still, it stomps recent book to tv fantasy shows like The Witcher and Shadow&Bone when it comes to magic fights. God the last seasons of 'mages' in those two where like children trying to act as if they had mutant powers.
The thing about the Wheel of Time magic system is that it always made sense to me as a reader. The science of it all is what induced me to continue reading the books. It was the first time I'd ever seen that. No wand waving, no spells, no nonsense. Just science.
Cried my eyes out from "I remember" to the end pretty much. Best thing ive ever seen on screen. So glad it hit home as much for none readers, this episode is a masterpiece! Cant wait for yalls full breakdown 😊
I am a book reader who enjoyed s2 and thought the finale was an epic success! It definitely has some changes from the books, but the essence and emotions are still there in spades
except rand being a scrub for 2 seasons straight lol.i think they were thinking of giving rand a slow burn for the first 2 seasons and maybe make season 3 rand centric, but the problem is that it made rand basically kinda pointless for 2 seasons straight making him like a secondary character. it's like if frodo got 30 mins of screen time in the trilogy. rand is the centre stone of the story, the other characters while important, revolve around rand. without rand the other 4 couldn't hope to face the dark one. i just wish they could have done a sort of compromise, and given rand more things to do in season 2. all his beast mode moments were taken away from him. his earth quake magic to wipe out an entire army in the eye of the world, his sword fight with turak, his sword fight with ishy. atlleast in season 2 rand got company in the low tier scrubs level with nynaeve lol.
It's more than some changes. To think that anyone else could even withstand being in between Ishamael and Rand when they face off and not get vaporized is just kind of silly. Rand can't be shielded without 13 Aes Sedai present and even then, he was able to break that shield (though admittedly this is later on). At this point, no one could have been strong enough to withstand Ishamael, so Rand handled that front of the clusterfyck that was Falme, while Mat handled the Seanchan and the Whitecloak forces with the Horn, and Nynaeve and Elayne handled the Sul'dam. It was a climax battle fought on many fronts with many sides, but no one could have "helped" Rand and survived Ishamael.
My understanding is that the horn awoke the memories of all the reborn heroes who heard it. So it's not just Mat, but also Rand and Egwene. Which is why these 2 in particular suddenly glowed up so much. But the show is keeping that under wraps for now, that's why they barely said anything after the horn was blown, and what they did say seemed a bit out of character. Like why should Egwene feel like apologizing to Rand when she was being overpowered by Ishamael? And Rand suddenly seemed so much more serious, familiar and unafraid of Ishamael. Even Ishamael look of puzzlement says to me that he was putting the pieces together and realizing that Rand and Egwene has regained memories of their past lives after hearing the horn. He knew he couldn't win against them both, and he saw Rand weaving something into the sword which looked powerful enough to kill him. So Ishamael knew that the prophecy was being fulfilled now, ie he was doomed to be defeated and die for good, that's why he took the shortcut and let Rand kill him
This episode felt like a MOVIE to me. Absolutely stellar. Every moment felt like it mattered, payoffs for so many of these stories and characters that were SO satisfying. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! Gosh, EGWENE, RAND, MAT, MOIRAINE, LAN just killing it!! I had tears, I had heart palpitations, it was a wild and wonderful ride. (Did anyone else notice the Two Rivers music playing when Mat goes about making the spear to resist the dagger? I LOVED that touch, the moment I heard it I knew he wouldn't give in. 🥺) I feel like I haven't seen a show finish so spectacularly in a long time, and I'm so happy for this show and this fandom (I'm a non-book reader, but I hear that even book fans seem to be enjoying this) Ugh, I hate that there won't be another episode next Friday, but I can't wait to join your full discussion!
Philosophizing on Robert Jordan's core concepts (aside from: what would it be like if someone told you you had to save the world) is the way stories change across time and move between eras until they are almost unrecognizable from their origins. It is natural and right for the story to change when coming to a new medium. As a repeat reader of the entire series, I am intensely fascinated by the way they are weaving and reweaving parts of the story to make things work out to the cores of where they all need to be. It's doggone impressive. Hat tip to Rafe for the work that he's had to do for this to be manageable and cohesive and coherent! It's such an insanely huge world with so many details...just 👏👏👏👏👏❤️ I was a loud mess watching this episode. Laughing crying weeping sobbing cheering, huzzah! Even though as a book reader we knew Hopper was going to die at some point, we didn't know it would be now and it always hurts. Translation of what Mat yelled as he ran into the fight..."Time to roll the dice!" It's Mat's battle cry and it won't be the last time you hear it 😊 Welcome to Book 3+ Mat finally. I didn't want to say anything before so i didn't spoil anything but in the books Mat literally goes from one of the least liked characters to predominately being everyone's favourite. It's a hell of a ride and not just for Mat. Enjoy!!!

I thought Dain's anguished reaction to his father's death was really well done. And he has a legitimate reason for vengeance too, and I doubt he's going to take "but he killed my wolf friend" as a valid excuse.
I am one of those long time book readers (since mid 90's) that LOVES the series, I just enjoy the fact my favorite story is finally alive on TV. Enjoying watching folks like you, this is why the TV series is so wonderful, so many more people are now seeing this story!!
As a reader, it was everything I could have hoped for. They hit so many high character moments. I know people who love Nynaeve may have been disappointed but I think it sets her up nicely for what is to come. Sadly, a lot of people are going to be upset that Rand isn’t as much of a one man show as he is in the early books, and a lot of the people upset are angry because the women in this show are getting a big share of the spotlight. Not like we haven’t seen that on the Internet before. Rand is an awesome character, he had great moments in this episode, and he has amazing stuff to come that will make people cheer just as much as they cheered for Mat and Egwene in this episode.
Yeah, I'm a book reader and I was VERY disappointed that they took away a couple of iconic moments from Rand. It really distracted me throughout the rest of the episode, and I came out of it feeling very let down. I re-watched it today at lunch, and knowing what to expect I enjoyed it much more. It's definitely not perfect, but better than I initially thought!

Obviously they have shortened mats arc due to the circumstances with the actor leaving, but i think we will have the mat we love moving forward. To be fair book mat doesnt really shine in the early books either.
I'm old enough to have read the books as they came out..I do love the show..I was disappointed in the first two episodes of season one until I rode with it and when I saw something referenced from the books I enjoyed it more and this episode though a little different was all that and a bag..lol

The finale was great :) The big changes from the book actually were pretty well done too, which was nice. I'm just happy all of the watchers only finally get to see the beginnings of why all of us Mat-stans love Mat so much. Can't wait for the full discussion!
I think rand will have his moments in season 3 especially if he starts to get trained by logain rand was just starting to learn to use his powers in this season so he will no doubt have his moments next season especially if lan trains him. I like rand especially when the guy was wanting a sword fight and rand was like nah and just killed them instantly. Loving moiraine’s loyalty to rand and to the cause she has so much faith in rand.

So him being untrained and not really knowing what he's doing... and yet able to use specific weaves and wreck shit is book accurate. For reasons the show will probably get into at some point. So yeah, that's not a show invented detail.

Book Reader here, been loving your videos and looking forward to S3 reactions. S3 is based on Book 4 which is considered by many to be the best book, not that the rest are bad.

Ishamael is not sadistically evil, he just wants everything to end. Despite being the strongest of the Forsaken he never really wants to fight Rand, he wants Rand to join him Lanfear while evil is in love with Lews Therin and hence Rand. She would never want to see actual hurt come to him The other Forsaken have no such qualms - classically pure evil individuals Moghedien is a nutter but just wait till you meet the others
I'm not going to get into for obvious reasons but not all the other forsaken are pure evil. I'm sure the show is going to show that too. Black and white villains are boring.
Looking forward to seeing your indepth thoughts and review of the season. I know some book readers have issues with the show but personall what I like as a book reader is that I have a good idea of the milestones each of the characters have to reach but what I don't know is how the show will get them there. I would have liked to see more of Rand and Nynaeve showing us what they are capable of but I get this was Mat & Egwene's time to shine. I think Mat using the dagger that way was supercool and just seeing the smirk vanish from Paddan Fain's face was golden. I like how they played on Egwene saying she worked so hard to learn to channel becuase if she was strong enough she might have been able to save Rand, and after all she has been through she gets to do exactly that. While I thought Lan's storyline was the weakest of the plot threads this season I did love how Moiraine admitted she always thougth he was better than her and the way you see the emotion on Lan's face even thought he is being all stoic. Part of the reason bookreaders were unhappy with how Lan is shown in the show is partially becuase that showdown on the beach woud be just another day at work for book Lan. I know a lot of book readers were probably looking forward to a sword fight between High Lord Turok and Rand but i really enjoyed how they showed Rand handling so many elite guards and a feared blademaster with such ease using the one power. And that's when he barely knows what he is doing. Lastly I am very curious where you think the story will go in Season 3 based on what we have seen so far.
I hope the UA-cam reactor community encourages the channels who haven't watched this show to get in on it and watch. It's SUCH a good show and it's gonna get BETTER but between the pandemic and the strikes and having to recast Mat and Prime not marketing it and the massive budget... the future of the show is uncertain and I can NOT be left hanging halfway through the story. It needs more audience and more demand. I'm pretty sure we're getting S3 but S4 isn't confirmed yet and I NEED the whole story!
As a book reader, I loved this season! I absolutely loved season 1 and I will defend it to my dying breath. But I have to admit that Season 2 was even more amazing! Can't wait for season 3!
It’s been great watching the show with you two! I think most book readers were very happy with this episode. They did have to change several things for the ending. Mostly because it would have been difficult to film short of a movie level budget. I think most of us expected the ending to be different because of that.
As a book reader, I was quite happy with this season. Much more so than season one. They still significantly downplayed Rand, but they kept the main spirit of the books. Great reactions!

The Forsaken are able to use the One Power to travel instantaneously from one place to another. They don't need to use the Ways to travel quickly. (That's how Lanfear took Matt to Falme last episode, how she escapes the Ways and how Moghedien disappears at the end of the episode). Lanfear only took everybody through the Ways because she didn't want to show Moraine the weave for travelling.
Wow Guys I love watching your reviews and feel excited about your continuing journey in WOT. I'm sorry I haven't responded before. If you haven't worked it out yet, I'm a book reader, but I so love this TV series interpretation of my favourite fantasy. I laugh, at some of your theories, because you have no idea how close you come to being on point, sometimes, Your theories about Mat, you are in for a surprise. When you read the books you need to expect things to flow a little differently, but please don't be disappointed with either version because I'm not. I'm always excited to see how the series handles certain plot points and I'm never disappointed. I believe it keeps Robert's world alive in everyone's mind, if only for a little while longer. I think that there is a lot of scope here for someone else to come along and do a different type of series. You saw in this episode how Mat got his Ashandarei this is definitely not how he got it in the books. I can see why they didn't do it that way, it would have taken a whole season to cover that. I also think Perrin, Tom, Moraine, Egwene, Nynaeve, Elayne, Aviendha, and Min could do with their own storylines, sorry Verin. Please Enjoy this world as much as I have over the years. Let me give you something to puzzle over, Min dropped a big Easter egg in season 1 and you haven't picked up on it yet. The pieces are now in place for that to happen, lol enjoy figuring that out.

Too bad Amazon seems to have their minds set on just 1 high fantasy show per year, 2021 WoT, 2022 RoPower, then this year 2022 WoT season 2. So unless things change coz of better reception for WoT, I really hope they allow both in same year, just different times of the year maybe. I think reading the books are always preferred to watching an adaptation. You don't normally fear that your movie/show experience will be spoiled, it is the other way around, because even the best adaptations have a hard time living up to the books when those books are the top of their genre. There might be a couple of things from the first two books that might appear in season 3 (like Elayne's family & stuff), but most of it should be safe. A lot this season has been very different from the books. It definitely was better than last season... and last season's finale. I do feel like some things were a little rushed (like Mat getting to Falme last episode)... kind of Deus ex machina... 1 or 2 more episodes would have been great. Hopper made me tear up... even though I knew it would happen... 😭 It's a different spot in the books, but it had to happen. Book spoiler... Mat blows the horn in the books (though I don't think he was a hero of the horn... I think that's from the show only... but more should be seen of Mat next Season.) I'm glad he had his big moment. In the books, his story really gets started after he blows the horn. Rand vs Turek went down differently in the books... but this made much more sense for the show. Ishy tricked Mat to get him to stab Rand. I knew he wouldn't purposely stab him! Lanfear planned to throw the other forsaken prisons in the water so they would never be freed. She loves Lews Therin and doesn't want him dead... some of the others just will want Lews/Rand dead. 😅 Not sure if it was noticed, but apparently a woman from Cairhien helped Loial & the others get the horn (Selene/Lanfear?). One thing I didn't like, was that Nynaeve didn't have a moment in this episode. She's had many moments earlier, but I wish she could have at least healed Elayne. I think it's going to push her to work harder in the future because I'm sure she felt like she failed her friends. Moghedien (aka Moggy)... SHOULD be in next season since she's in book 4. Another Forsaken should be making an appearance too. I expected 2 of them to be freed... but all 6 were freed. I'm ready for season 3 now.... 😅
Elayne doesn't even have much of a talent in healing. And yet... also they established that Egwene can't hurt the Sul'dam while she's collared, can't even think about it. Until the finale says nevermind that she totally can because girlboss
Much better season than the first, and I'm excited. This episode was fire and while they did their thing, I didn't find the changes from the book jarring at all. I loved it and now have to wait until 2024... ugh
For me this one episode elevated WOT up amongst GOT, and LOTR. In fact, I would say it was as good as S6E10 from GOT. The fight scenes and the magic was obviously fantastic. But it wasn't just that, it was the complexity of the charachters. They aren't just one dimensional paragons, they are shades of grey.

I feel like I haven't seen a show finish so spectacularly in a long time, and I'm so happy for this show and this fandom (I'm a non-book reader, but I hear that even book fans seem to be enjoying this)

Philosophizing on Robert Jordan's core concepts (aside from: what would it be like if someone told you you had to save the world) is the way stories change across time and move between eras until they are almost unrecognizable from their origins. It is natural and right for the story to change when coming to a new medium.
As a repeat reader of the entire series, I am intensely fascinated by the way they are weaving and reweaving parts of the story to make things work out to the cores of where they all need to be.
It's doggone impressive. Hat tip to Rafe for the work that he's had to do for this to be manageable and cohesive and coherent! It's such an insanely huge world with so many details...just 👏👏👏👏👏❤️

It is a pity they were not able to fit in Thoms speech from early in the EOTW, maybe in S3.

Welcome to Book 3+ Mat finally. I didn't want to say anything before so i didn't spoil anything but in the books Mat literally goes from one of the least liked characters to predominately being everyone's favourite. It's a hell of a ride and not just for Mat. Enjoy!!!

I thought Dain's anguished reaction to his father's death was really well done. And he has a legitimate reason for vengeance too, and I doubt he's going to take "but he killed my wolf friend" as a valid excuse.
I am one of those long time book readers (since mid 90's) that LOVES the series, I just enjoy the fact my favorite story is finally alive on TV. Enjoying watching folks like you, this is why the TV series is so wonderful, so many more people are now seeing this story!!
I like how Moraine had total trust that Lan was going to handle those guys and keep her safe.

As a reader, it was everything I could have hoped for. They hit so many high character moments. I know people who love Nynaeve may have been disappointed but I think it sets her up nicely for what is to come.
Sadly, a lot of people are going to be upset that Rand isn’t as much of a one man show as he is in the early books, and a lot of the people upset are angry because the women in this show are getting a big share of the spotlight. Not like we haven’t seen that on the Internet before.
Rand is an awesome character, he had great moments in this episode, and he has amazing stuff to come that will make people cheer just as much as they cheered for Mat and Egwene in this episode.
Yeah, I'm a book reader and I was VERY disappointed that they took away a couple of iconic moments from Rand. It really distracted me throughout the rest of the episode, and I came out of it feeling very let down. I re-watched it today at lunch, and knowing what to expect I enjoyed it much more. It's definitely not perfect, but better than I initially thought!

I watched a few reviews from readers, all negative and thought something was wrong with me for liking it so much! (i am a long term reader, read the series a dozen times or more)
@@DeathBean89 i think they are building rand up more slowly than the books. I expect him to have his moment in s3. Obviously they have shortened mats arc due to the circumstances with the actor leaving, but i think we will have the mat we love moving forward. To be fair book mat doesnt really shine in the early books either.
I'm old enough to have read the books as they came out..I do love the show..I was disappointed in the first two episodes of season one until I rode with it and when I saw something referenced from the books I enjoyed it more and this episode though a little different was all that and a bag..lol

The finale was great :) The big changes from the book actually were pretty well done too, which was nice. I'm just happy all of the watchers only finally get to see the beginnings of why all of us Mat-stans love Mat so much. Can't wait for the full discussion!
I think rand will have his moments in season 3 especially if he starts to get trained by logain rand was just starting to learn to use his powers in this season so he will no doubt have his moments next season especially if lan trains him. I like rand especially when the guy was wanting a sword fight and rand was like nah and just killed them instantly. Loving moiraine’s loyalty to rand and to the cause she has so much faith in rand.

So him being untrained and not really knowing what he's doing... and yet able to use specific weaves and wreck shit is book accurate. For reasons the show will probably get into at some point. So yeah, that's not a show invented detail.

Ishamael is not sadistically evil, he just wants everything to end. Despite being the strongest of the Forsaken he never really wants to fight Rand, he wants Rand to join him
Lanfear while evil is in love with Lews Therin and hence Rand. She would never want to see actual hurt come to him
The other Forsaken have no such qualms - classically pure evil individuals

I'm not going to get into for obvious reasons but not all the other forsaken are pure evil. I'm sure the show is going to show that too. Black and white villains are boring.
Looking forward to seeing your indepth thoughts and review of the season. I know some book readers have issues with the show but personall what I like as a book reader is that I have a good idea of the milestones each of the characters have to reach but what I don't know is how the show will get them there. I would have liked to see more of Rand and Nynaeve showing us what they are capable of but I get this was Mat & Egwene's time to shine. I think Mat using the dagger that way was supercool and just seeing the smirk vanish from Paddan Fain's face was golden. I like how they played on Egwene saying she worked so hard to learn to channel becuase if she was strong enough she might have been able to save Rand, and after all she has been through she gets to do exactly that. While I thought Lan's storyline was the weakest of the plot threads this season I did love how Moiraine admitted she always thougth he was better than her and the way you see the emotion on Lan's face even thought he is being all stoic. Part of the reason bookreaders were unhappy with how Lan is shown in the show is partially becuase that showdown on the beach woud be just another day at work for book Lan. I know a lot of book readers were probably looking forward to a sword fight between High Lord Turok and Rand but i really enjoyed how they showed Rand handling so many elite guards and a feared blademaster with such ease using the one power. And that's when he barely knows what he is doing.
Lastly I am very curious where you think the story will go in Season 3 based on what we have seen so far.
I hope the UA-cam reactor community encourages the channels who haven't watched this show to get in on it and watch. It's SUCH a good show and it's gonna get BETTER but between the pandemic and the strikes and having to recast Mat and Prime not marketing it and the massive budget... the future of the show is uncertain and I can NOT be left hanging halfway through the story. It needs more audience and more demand. I'm pretty sure we're getting S3 but S4 isn't confirmed yet and I NEED the whole story!

As a book reader, I loved this season! I absolutely loved season 1 and I will defend it to my dying breath. But I have to admit that Season 2 was even more amazing! Can't wait for season 3!

It’s been great watching the show with you two! I think most book readers were very happy with this episode. They did have to change several things for the ending. Mostly because it would have been difficult to film short of a movie level budget. I think most of us expected the ending to be different because of that.
the whole lore of Lanfear is so damn crazy, and how much power she actually has, deffo worth checking out

As a book reader, I was quite happy with this season. Much more so than season one. They still significantly downplayed Rand, but they kept the main spirit of the books. Great reactions!

The Forsaken are able to use the One Power to travel instantaneously from one place to another. They don't need to use the Ways to travel quickly. (That's how Lanfear took Matt to Falme last episode, how she escapes the Ways and how Moghedien disappears at the end of the episode). Lanfear only took everybody through the Ways because she didn't want to show Moraine the weave for travelling.

If you haven't worked it out yet, I'm a book reader, but I so love this TV series interpretation of my favourite fantasy.
I laugh, at some of your theories, because you have no idea how close you come to being on point, sometimes, Your theories about Mat, you are in for a surprise. When you read the books you need to expect things to flow a little differently, but please don't be disappointed with either version because I'm not. I'm always excited to see how the series handles certain plot points and I'm never disappointed. I believe it keeps Robert's world alive in everyone's mind, if only for a little while longer.
I think that there is a lot of scope here for someone else to come along and do a different type of series. You saw in this episode how Mat got his Ashandarei this is definitely not how he got it in the books. I can see why they didn't do it that way, it would have taken a whole season to cover that. I also think Perrin, Tom, Moraine, Egwene, Nynaeve, Elayne, Aviendha, and Min could do with their own storylines, sorry Verin.
Please Enjoy this world as much as I have over the years.
Let me give you something to puzzle over, Min dropped a big Easter egg in season 1 and you haven't picked up on it yet. The pieces are now in place for that to happen, lol enjoy figuring that out.

Too bad Amazon seems to have their minds set on just 1 high fantasy show per year, 2021 WoT, 2022 RoPower, then this year 2022 WoT season 2. So unless things change coz of better reception for WoT, I really hope they allow both in same year, just different times of the year maybe. Especially very little % of audience who started RoP didn't finish it
I think reading the books are always preferred to watching an adaptation. You don't normally fear that your movie/show experience will be spoiled, it is the other way around, because even the best adaptations have a hard time living up to the books when those books are the top of their genre. So if i were you i would just read all the books but your choice.

There might be a couple of things from the first two books that might appear in season 3 (like Elayne's family & stuff), but most of it should be safe.
A lot this season has been very different from the books.
It definitely was better than last season... and last season's finale.
I do feel like some things were a little rushed (like Mat getting to Falme last episode)... kind of Deus ex machina... 1 or 2 more episodes would have been great.
Hopper made me tear up... even though I knew it would happen... 😭 It's a different spot in the books, but it had to happen.
Book spoiler... Mat blows the horn in the books (though I don't think he was a hero of the horn... I think that's from the show only... but more should be seen of Mat next Season.) I'm glad he had his big moment. In the books, his story really gets started after he blows the horn.
Rand vs Turek went down differently in the books... but this made much more sense for the show.
Ishy tricked Mat to get him to stab Rand. I knew he wouldn't purposely stab him!
Lanfear planned to throw the other forsaken prisons in the water so they would never be freed. She loves Lews Therin and doesn't want him dead... some of the others just will want Lews/Rand dead. 😅
Not sure if it was noticed, but apparently a woman from Cairhien helped Loial & the others get the horn (Selene/Lanfear?).
One thing I didn't like, was that Nynaeve didn't have a moment in this episode. She's had many moments earlier, but I wish she could have at least healed Elayne. I think it's going to push her to work harder in the future because I'm sure she felt like she failed her friends.
Moghedien (aka Moggy)... SHOULD be in next season since she's in book 4. Another Forsaken should be making an appearance too. I expected 2 of them to be freed... but all 6 were freed.

For me this one episode elevated WOT up amongst GOT, and LOTR. In fact, I would say it was as good as S6E10 from GOT. The fight scenes and the magic was obviously fantastic. But it wasn't just that, it was the complexity of the charachters. They aren't just one dimensional paragons, they are shades of grey.
