He joined the army at 34, being much older than the other soldiers.
He built his own house by himself after the war.
He had a diet of cigars, whisky, and butter pecan ice cream, and lived to be the oldest surviving WW2 veteran.
    What a legend.

Soup & milk played critical supporting roles in-between all those smokes, liquor & ice cream. Legend indeed. Why not name his district after him instead of just a street? A park would be good too, but guess he only got a street to enjoy.

Weird phenomenon, ehh. I think much of this is a) genetics, b) mental fortitude. Maybe some people are just predisposed to stress and short lives, regardless of their habits, addictions, and lifestyle. Just one hypothesis, but the brain is certainly a powerful organ.

I did not know he had passed away until I saw this video on my recommended list. I do not live in Austin or Texas but the best thing I will remember about Sgt. Overton is the meme of him smoking a cigar, a glass of whiskey on his table and brandishing a Thompson submachine gun. No, no one will ever be as cool as Mr. Overton smoking a cigar, drinking whiskey and brandishing a Thompson submachine gun cool. Rest easy, sir.

    My Condolences to The Family;
The Lost Of A Love One,
One of the most comforting is the promise that life is continuous; our time
on earth is just one aspect of a soul’s journey of growth and
transformation through time. Not only will we meet our loved one again
beyond the veil we know as physical death, but our relationship with
them will continue as well. One of the greatest gifts we can give to
someone who has passed on is to pray for them. And most importantly, to
pray that they will recognize that they have moved on from earthly
life, and now have the opportunity to continue their soul development in a
different way. The One's we love on the other side are actually as close
to us as our thoughts, and we can be most helpful to those individuals
by focusing on the happy, joyful times together, and releasing - as much
as we can - the sadness and grief we feel at their passing.

Jolly good ole fellow. I enjoyed watching him when they did an interview with him. So laid back. He saw much he was in WW11 If you can't respect and honor that generation then you are missing much
