Now that's what you call a send off for a man that fought for his own country and lived all the way to 112. Richard Overton's legacy will live forever.
Beautiful service.I am so happy there was singing, Richard loved the singing of the church. Also so happy the American flag draped him. Rest in Peace Mr Richard A Overton. 💙💚🖤💜💛
@@LBLxSlattGanG I’m not sure how he had a terrible life. He lived simple and a chill person. Only downsides I see is that he probably had to overcome racism most of his life, had served in war being shot at, which definitely causes PTSD to some degree, and never had children with either wife. He was divorced from his first wife during his service in WW2.
For more than 70 years, he lived in a small Texas city that wouldn’t allow blacks to own property anywhere but the east side until the 1960’s and built his own home and lived in it seeing Austin turn into a hipster and west coast immigrant place the past 20-30 years of his life. His home remained an oasis of unfettered progress never having central A/C or heating while NPC and Milburn tract homes went up all over from the 60’s to 90’s. Yet he remained at peace enjoying his cigars, coffee, whiskey, butter pecan ice cream, and canned creamy soups on a daily basis.
I totally agree, Richard Overton is one of the finest people I’ve ever seen on here. I grew up in Austin, but haven’t lived there in 32 years. I would have loved to spend a day with him on his porch smoking a cigar with him and having coffee laced with Maker’s Mark whiskey.
WOW, COUSIN WITH THE OVERTON FAMILY OF THE DESEGREGATION CIVIL RIGHTS SUIT, AND COUSIN WAS HEAD OF NAACP 63-84 AND MARCH IN DC IN THE 60s.. BEAUTIFUL !!!
My dad served in that war in those locations at that time. He too African American I wonder if their lives crossed. Despite how our race treated at that time my dad too took so much pride in this country which all too often turns it's back. What an amazing send off and acknowledgement by the country he served with all his heart in battle and peace. A life amazingly lived Mr. Richard Overton
As long as he gives his life fully surrendered over to the lord JESUS CHRIST, he will find eternal pease, with his savior and lord. It is very important in our lives, to accept our lord and savior, JESUS CHRIST. It does not matter our cercomstances, ither, rich or poor, free or bond, we have a savior to turn to because he have something over on the other side forever better.
So much hypocrisy. Governor Abbott who disparages immigrants and pursues policies that are hostile to black and people of color but yet was given a front row seat at the funeral as other white people spoke who knew nothing of wha this man had to go through in a segregated armed forces and had to rely on charity for necessary repairs on his own that the Veterans Administration or Abbot could not find the funds. Who was in charge of the intenirary for his funeral anyway, because a lot of those people should not have been there or been allowed to speak about a man they knew nothing about. It should have been friens and neigbors from the community only. Rest in Peace Mr. Overton and may those who honor you in death may forever feel the pain of nothing properly honoring you in life.

No one should mourn his death, everyone should be happy, he lived a long life!
Well, I agree in a way but, the reason we mourn is because we're going to miss the person that passed.
it was a terrible life because he had to fight so it wasn't fair.
@@LBLxSlattGanG life ain’t fair but he made the best use of the time he had he lived every day to the fullest with a smile on his face.
