So if my engines go to 4, and i put 3 power i get 75% of max speed. So if you put 12 power on engines, but you only put 3 power you get like 25% - Just LOOK at HOW SLOW YOU ARE! That's just BAD! Oh and a simply way to get better in combat is to boost when you hear the missle lock, it will break the target lock on you and prevent the enemy from firing the missile. You can stop the boost by tapping the break or thruster mode
I customize the frontier to become a passenger liner. It is the only ship in the game that gets a captains quarter with 2 passenger slots. Nova Max also gets 2 passenger slots on its workshop, science lab, and armory. You can add all 3 of those habs to the frontier and you will get 8 passenger slots. As the game progresses you can add lots of cargo, upgrade it's class and install a vanguard shield. Max engines and Max shields with 1 little gun, a massive starbus hauling settlers and junk all across the galaxy. I particularly enjoy transport missions, so I can listen to random npc's tell me how nice my ship is.
The frontier module is also unique, so I want to preserve it and make it my "capital" ship, converting another captured ship into a stripped down fighter instead
@@mortache stripping down advanced ships like the big varuun ships can get you some really nice parts way before your level is high enough to buy them, particularly the engines are quite powerful.
This was not only helpful for a template if people wanted, which I’m sure lots will. But by breaking things down the way you did, you answered a ton of my questions about tolerances, errors, solutions and just how to build upon a ship that’s already pretty maxed out on its current components. Thank you!
You could have added a little side note that better reactors are better at recovering. But aside from that: Thank you for your pleasant and relaxed explanation. It was in the right order and I know why you did what and in which order. Many others were not able to archive that. :) subbed :)
With better use of engine boost and increased situational awareness you definitely could have gotten farther. There were several times that you flew in a straight line right in the middle of 2-4 enemies or you flew past several closer enemies to shoot at a target that was 4k meters away. Your target lock was being broken because your targets were boosting at that moment. Aeleron rolls don't help you reduce damage, (this isn't Star Fox) you need to change direction or do a proper barrell roll to make the enemy shoot at where your space craft used to be. It's better to boost away and reengage if you are being shot by one or two ships from behind. This is for 2 reasons: 1, you are alone and you don't have a wingman to watch your back. 2, once you engage an enemy they do not flee unless you have a perk that demoralizes the enemy like the Razor Leaf does. This allows you to run away, recharge your shields, and bait the faster enemy ships away from the bigger and tougher ships so you can defeat your enemies in detail. I would suggest switching back and forth between 1st and 3rd person more if not fight in 3rd person the whole time. It's fine to switch to first person when shooting/chasing a close target but 3rd person helps spot the closest targets as well as helping you notice who is engaging you. These are just a couple of dogfighting tips you can use to keep you in the fight longer.
I prefer upgrading the Frontier with just enough weapons, shield, reactor, and grav drive as necessary, hopefully not at all. No additional modules are required as I would rather acquire another larger ship, hopefully the FREE Star Eagle from the Ranger quest. With less than 40 thousand credits she can be modified with different modules and cargo containers without upgrading much of anything else providing a better home ship. More light year range, more storage, and better mobility. The Star Eagle can be upgraded later to B and a C class vessel. The Frontier can be sold as she has served her purpose. Too many UA-camrs have been hogging their loot on the Frontier when they could have used the unlimited storage at the Lodge or build an outpost with a landing pad and a land based nearly automated storage facility. The Frontier is not a large cargo ship, better options are available. If you have a garage/warehouse, use it as it is just a few clicks and seconds away...
When you boost, it temporarily breaks enemy lock on...even if a missile is already on the way. Simply change heading and boost to avoid. Clearly, the enemies can do the same, which is why you occasionally lose lock on them.
I finally hit 45,000 and followed along your ship build on the other video. That was a good tutorial in ship building. I have been intentionally not watching how to videos, but the ship building was a bit complicated. Good videos and thanks for putting them together.
Did your character have piloting at level one or higher? I ask because mine has no piloting and I did not have access to the higher grav drive or cargo pods. This included me refreshing the vendor as I know vendor stocks are randomized. Once I did get piloting 1, I had more options. If that is the case, you should mention that in the video, but still some very good tips. Thank you.
Wow! I missed that completely. Yes, my character had piloting level 1. Sadly once published I can't change that content. I'll make a note in the description though. Thank you!

Yeah, people seem to sell the Frontier short. It can scale right along with you for sure. It was a class B ship for me by the time I got around to doing the Freestar Rangers quest line for the Star Eagle. Wanted to be able to use that sweet Vanguard shield.

Also worth while is to get pilot rank 1 it enables ship thrusters so you can boost away from enemies then use the thrusters to do a J-turn then hold the thruster button and reverse at the same time and you can fly at your full forward speed in reverse as long as you continue to hold them. Meaning your get to head full speed away from enemies while facing your weapons towards them which can deal massive damage while taking advantage of range meaning they can't shoot you back. You woulda beaten all those ships even the higher levels that killed you with this method Edit: if you don't understand what i mean theres tutorials for XBOX and PC explaining it

So you can just go with new Nova Control station above default hub for +4 crew. There is NO POINT to use 3*1 Engineering station ever. It is completely useless. No spoilers, but I made my final jump with a frontier ship, but I sunk a half a mil credits, and turned it into a class c ship. This is way better than what I did.
wrong way of thinking man. if upgrade then in way so you don't have to redo everything next time you have another 20k in pocket. if you do want to increase crew why not go for control station that gives 4 crew instead of 1. also you could put nova bracer under reactor and attach those extra engines there that way you increase mass by 3 only plus engine mass of course also that would look better well in my book
It's fun to see you do space battles. Am at a point where i can pretty much obliterate almost anything. I had a ship iteration where i cleared the space over new Atlantis.
I love when you hear them yell or say oh crap over the comms as they explode. So many little cool details in this game. Steal a ship and kill everyone to find a locker full of kid drawings to their parent 😢. Good attention to detail.
Do you play on very hard? I built this ship to your spec and don't have the same stats as you. I broke it down and built it a few times to make sure it was not operator error, was something changed?
Followed along your guide and ended up with a really nice ship. I made a few mods to make it more to my liking. I did not like the way we had to cross the cluttered enginerring hab to get to the cockpit and climb a ladder to get to the bed, research station and galley of the Frontier Hab module. So what I did is keep the Frontier module with the cockpit, added the 1x1 companionway to the back of it, and instead of the Frontier hab on top, the Nova Galactic 2x1 Workshop module. That gives me a ship with: Research, cooking, industrial, spacesuit and weapon workbenches.
Switch to Stroud Viking cockpit. You get two more crew and can move the landing gear forward to open that space. Better than the 3x1 engineering bay. Increases storage a bit too. Go to Deimos and buy the thin docker and put it on the bottom of the ship.
@sgtsylver thanks for the video. Helped me get started playing around with building ships. Currently doing missions only to get funds to build ships I think are cool and then customizing them a bit.
5:00 until it's fixed, you can grab parts you don't have the skills for. Select the last available part on the list, have it away from the ship, press the S key and it will move down to the part you want. 19:55 You can do that for mining without needing to go to the planet. The resources are based on what planet is near them. particle weapons are just broken, I'm expecting them to get nerfed at some point because Beth is a no-fun zone sometimes. 29:00 One of the skills lets boosting disable the targeting system.
I ditched the Frontier for my own custom ship. I cheated in the credits, grinded my levels, built the Cutlass and now I have over 100 Particle and 188 Missiles. I haven't really tested it thoroughly in combat yet😅
You don't need the Deimos Braces to add the Engines, you can attach the Starting Engines to the Grav Drive and place the new Engines below them on the Reactor, I actually used the White Dwarf 1010 Engines instead of the 1000, it costs more but it's a direct upgrade, I'm also able to attach 4 of the Caravel V102 Cargo Hold (The ones with 300 Cargo Space) with the Starting Docker, and all I need is to either get rid of the starting Cargo Hold or get 1 extra Landing Gear, although I'd need a better Grav Drive to make the Landing Gears symmetrical, I can get away with 3 of those Cargo Holds otherwise, if I use all 4 with the Starting Cargo Hold I get 1650 Cargo :)
Great walkthrough. Good information at a good pace. My character is level 14, so I randomly chose to put this ship together at the Hopetown space port. So… TIL Different spaceports carry different inventory. I got as far as putting on the brackets… well, Hopetown ain’t got brackets… 😂 So,back to New Atlantis I went, and had the ship together in no time.
Just a side note "The 300CM Ballast Cargo Hold" does NOT attach to the back with this setup, as its anchor points are to the left/right, and not front/back.
If you could increase budget a bit. I'd add more fuel & better reactor. I'd like to see 20+ jump range while maintaining a 100 mobility. Weapons I'd say use something with a faster fire rate. Potentially also a 2nd weapon. Particle weapons are delicious on the Frontier I'm happy with the look of your additions mostly 😊
I'm following along with this build, it's not easy with a controller 😂😂 but she's coming together under your guidance ❤ Edit: Started over since last time went wonky and she's done! I did add a EM weapon in case I want to take a ship alive but I'm nearly Level 20 😅😅 Might be time to start farming Targeting to get B Class Ships now.
I went to the other "unknown" locations and looted them. I just grab weapon stuff, suits, helmets and credits. Dropping low value for higher as cargo gets tight.

You could also go for the option of upgrading the existing engines rather than than adding on the extra ones, plus it needs less power with two engines rather than 4 so you can always have greater thrust and higher speed
That is excellent point. I'm just not sure the upgrades are available on day one but if so that is definitely the better option to conserve that power.

No spoilers, but I made my final jump with a frontier ship, but I sunk a half a mil credits, and turned it into a class c ship. This is way better than what I did.
Thanks for the support!
wrong way of thinking man. if upgrade then in way so you don't have to redo everything next time you have another 20k in pocket. if you do want to increase crew why not go for control station that gives 4 crew instead of 1. also you could put nova bracer under reactor and attach those extra engines there that way you increase mass by 3 only plus engine mass of course also that would look better well in my book
Good points.
It's fun to see you do space battles. Am at a point where i can pretty much obliterate almost anything. I had a ship iteration where i cleared the space over new Atlantis.
That is awesome! Thanks for watching!
I love when you hear them yell or say oh crap over the comms as they explode. So many little cool details in this game. Steal a ship and kill everyone to find a locker full of kid drawings to their parent 😢. Good attention to detail.
Agree! The details make it so much better.
Do you play on very hard? I built this ship to your spec and don't have the same stats as you. I broke it down and built it a few times to make sure it was not operator error, was something changed?
I play on normal. Thanks for watching!
You only need 1 bar in grav drive. The only difference is how fast you jump away.
Right! Thanks for watching!
Could you add missiles to your design and keep the ship as you created? Missiles to capture ships. Thank you.
You can add missiles but I prefer not to. Whichever weapon you prefer to run is always the best.
Fun fact The Frontier has an exclusive hab only found on it.
Yep, it is cool.
Id have kept your missiles and added more. Just keep one power and use sparingly.
Not a bad idea. Thanks for watching!
Nice! Thanks for watching and participating!
When you said "ping your ship" to change all colors at once how do you do that?
Double click any component. It will select all. Thanks for watching!
What game level are you playing on? Good build though
Normal. But I've increased that as I've gone on for more challenge.
Had he learned about thrusters to turn the ship in combat
Not at level 6. But did later. Thanks for the support.
Particle weapon is just op, need a balance patch 😂
Melt faces!
Switch to Stroud Viking cockpit. You get two more crew and can move the landing gear forward to open that space. Better than the 3x1 engineering bay. Increases storage a bit too. Go to Deimos and buy the thin docker and put it on the bottom of the ship.
I love the thin docker! Thanks for the participation and support!
@sgtsylver thanks for the video. Helped me get started playing around with building ships. Currently doing missions only to get funds to build ships I think are cool and then customizing them a bit.
I think the shipbuilding and customization is a nice feature.
Thank you for the info! I really appreciate it!
Piloting one gives thrusters control (PC its space bar) but it disables boost
Thanks for the tip. Something I need to put into practice for sure!
@@tonyshaw7420 while true that's not what I was refering to :P
@@scp2539 sorry misread it 🤦
I ditched the Frontier for my own custom ship. I cheated in the credits, grinded my levels, built the Cutlass and now I have over 100 Particle and 188 Missiles. I haven't really tested it thoroughly in combat yet😅
Wow! Thanks for watching!
NICE! Thanks for watching!
Outstanding! Thank you for feedback and support. I really appreciate it!
Just a side note "The 300CM Ballast Cargo Hold" does NOT attach to the back with this setup, as its anchor points are to the left/right, and not front/back.
DOH! Good call. Thanks for the info and for participating!
If you could increase budget a bit.
I'd add more fuel & better reactor.
I'd like to see 20+ jump range while maintaining a 100 mobility.
Weapons I'd say use something with a faster fire rate. Potentially also a 2nd weapon. Particle weapons are delicious on the Frontier
I'm happy with the look of your additions mostly 😊
Good points. Thanks for the support!
I'm following along with this build, it's not easy with a controller 😂😂 but she's coming together under your guidance ❤
Edit: Started over since last time went wonky and she's done! I did add a EM weapon in case I want to take a ship alive but I'm nearly Level 20 😅😅
Might be time to start farming Targeting to get B Class Ships now.
Great! Thanks for watching!
I am just trying to figure out how you got 40,000 at kreet. I have done everything there, collected everything I can grab, and got about 10K.
I went to the other "unknown" locations and looted them. I just grab weapon stuff, suits, helmets and credits. Dropping low value for higher as cargo gets tight.
Thanks a lot there buddy I finally understand how to use the shipbuilder My Level was level 22 so everything costs more money than you said but it's because of my level
You are welcome! Thank you for the support!
I Had to Delete all game files and uninstall the game. Basically Nuked this game. I’m going to start from scratch. After seeing this video , I’m going to build this same ship with the first ship then see about building a new one. This ship you upgraded is awesome and I want it. Thank you for sharing your opinions and thoughts.
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for this video when I get enough credits I will modify the ship as you recommend. As a new player since 28 Oct the couple I viewed have been help ful
You are welcome! Thanks for the support!
Loved the video and thx for the detail and instructions on how to build a magnificent ship. Amazing voice as well actually sound like a true veteran soldier "sgtslver" the name matches the voice.
You are welcome. And thank you very much for the support and kindness!
Outstanding video bro! I will do following this tonight. Want to just tweek the frontier ship andnthis is perfect. Subbed for more ❤
Awesome thank you! Thank you for watching and the sub!!!
This was excellent, a great starting point for new players or in my case when I start a brand new run. Your commentary voice is smooth af as well, some UA-camrs i just cant listen to. Subbed for more Starfield content.
Thank you! I really appreciate the support! AND SUB!!!!
Thank you for the great video! I finally figured out how the ship building works in the Starfield :) I wonder if there is a review somewhere of different modules interiors...
There are some guides and reviews on the interiors. Thanks for watching!
You have earned another sub, sir. Thanks to this Frontier build, I was able to tank all of the Spacer ship encounters in the mission, Failure to Communicate, completely solo. With your guidance, I have a better handle on the principles of Ship Building and how to balance cost, effectiveness, and efficiency.. Appreciate the tutorial very much!
You are most welcome. And thank you for the sub and the encouragement, very much appreciated!
OMG.. i did not know you can change 3 different color choices.. i thought it was all just one... wow.
Glam it up now! Thanks for watching!
Nice little upgrade, now take that bad boy to Altair and put it through some real paces lol, awesome vidja my dude
Yep. Varuuunnnnnnnnn! Thanks for watching!
get the Razor Leaf at lvl 6 and you are done with building ships for quite some time.
Nice! Thanks for watching!
Hi, this was an absolutely brilliant vid. I really found it helpful in building my ship
Glad it helped. Thank you for the support!
Nice video, my ship now looks like yours but a differant colour
Sweet! Thanks for watching!
The control station and captains qaurters (nova) have large storage chests in them and the cntrl cntre gives 4 crew spots.
Good info! Thanks for watching!
This was definitely a big help. Thank you!
You are welcome! Thank you for watching!
Great build. I’m definitely going to dust off the frontier.
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Great guide. I'm still fumbling my way around the ship builder
It is still awkward for me at times but it is nice to customize ships. What are your thoughts on the game so far?
@sgtsylver It's a Bethesda game. Buggy and shallow, but kind of fun. I wouldn't have paid for it, but since it's free on game pass, I've been playing it a bit
@@sgtsylverI thought you had to rank up to get more components but you have them at lvl 6 and I’m lvl 17 and haven’t messed with this since when I tried, I couldn’t figure out how to get to the other manufacturers components. I’m on Xbox so your keyboard buttons don’t mean anything to me. I’m 68 and I think I need to find someone on console who can explain this system to me in ways I might understand. You are a better pilot than me so I have no illusions about how far most ships could get me in combat. I’ve been playing on extra hard and it’s fine for combat, but I’ve avoided ship to ship as much as possible lol.
@@gryffent i think you need to go to diffrent space ports to see the diffrent manufacturers,
@@ukgamer9363 that may well be but I watched him at lvl 6 after just having come back from the first mission and he had lists of stuff to choose from. I’m sure I’m just not understanding what I’m doing and it’s a Me problem.
This was a good tutorial for ship building. I spent about 65000 and I have a much better ship. I ran out of bucks but when I get some more, I'll know what to change. Thank you Sarge!
You are welcome! Thanks for the support!
@@sgtsylver I've periodically been seeing what else I could improve on the Frontier as I gathered the funds! I even renamed it to "Rook One" I overheard Vladimer tell the Constellation staff to "have the Rook come see me" Instant flash! Name for ship! At first, I called it The Rook. Changed to Rook One as I imagined the Razorleaf Mod as Rook Two and The Star Eagle mod as Rook Three.
That is so cool. Great name.
New to the game! What an awesome build! You have a new sub!
Thank you for the support! I really appreciate it!
I used the same weapons plus some other one, wow what a powerfull ship now
Huge difference. Thanks for watching!
Nice job man. I like how you expanded it.
Thank you! I appreciate the support!
The razor leaf is far superior just by the passive.
Yep. Thanks for watching!
ouah ca c est un bel arcadia
Thank you!
Thank you for this! I appreciate it!
You're welcome. Thank you for the support!

Yep. Thanks for the support!
How do you get weapons to auto target without aiming the ship itself? Does it happen once you lock?
If you hit E you can cycle targets and yes, then it autolocks. Also, some turrets auto target but those aren't on this ship.
Any idea what the buttons would be on Xbox?@@sgtsylver
Sorry, no clue on controllers.
Barring a few changes I made based on some of the comments here that improved upon your tutorial design, I am satisfied and impressed with what you've managed to help me build. I might be a bit critical of some of your explanatory methods in various videos, as other people have been as well, but know that you are appreciated. You've put in the time and effort to learn and to help us on a higher level than we could reach as individuals. You are undeniably an S-tier educational content provider, and your service to building and fostering this community is phenomenal and appreciated. I would even go so far as to call you one of the few Great Pioneers of Starfield Exceptionalism.
9.8/10 Video and Creator, would eat pizza & soda while watching again.
Wow! Thank you!
Very impressive sir, well done
Thank you kindly!
Sooooo, when's the the playthrough!
Working on it. Thanks for the support!
thanks a lot really...
You are welcome. Thank you for watching.
Nice work mate, I like it
Thanks 👍
