You can fill the third weapon slot with an EM weapon and just not dedicate any power to it. This way you can take down the shields or destroy ships with the beam weapon and missiles, but if you want to board the ship, you can reroute power from the missiles to the EM weapon once you drop the shields. This will allow you to take out engines easily if you want to board enemy ships without potentially destroying them. It won't affect your overall effectiveness because you can just not have them powered when your goal is destroying rather than boarding. Makes it super easy to steal ships if you want to build more or farm the enemies on the inside for more exp.
@@clipdumpforspacethat works too but I have had a couple times where the angle is wrong and I'm shooting the actual ship and not the engines. Destroyed a couple ships I wanted to board on accident that way.

I would get the captain's crew quarters and control hub as they both have a storage crate with 150 capacity for 300 total, which is very handy for storing stuff early on when you're hurting for cargo space and don't have the funds to offset low mobility with weapons and engines. Great build, although I had to realize myself that the Amun-1 engine has abysmal efficiency... 5660 thrust for 100 mass, meanwhile other engines can have double or more than thrust for the same mass. The problem is that those other engines are side-mounted, but you can provide the side mounting if you do the following: when you're replacing the grav drive to a stronger one, choose the one that has side mount options, and actually move it below the power plant, effectively switching the position of the back cargo and the (upgraded grav drive). Thanks for the video! I appreciate that you went slowly to make the interface much more understandable, before that, ship building was pretty daunting and uninteresting due to the barrier of entry just from a UI perspective!
Thank you for this. Finally got around to playing more Starfield. The system is so bulky and unintuitive I had to look for help. This has got me started. At least for building starships.
I did the same but I had the cockpit at the right hand side, assymetrical, and added some Stroud nice curvy "fangs" on the other. Pretty nice stuff, what this game allows for.
Thank you for taking the time to make the video. I tried to do this exactly as you did on the Xbox but I could not get the Helios 300 it only had the 200 so I went with a different module and I was unable to make the build work. I had too much mass. I messed around a bit and it worked out in the end though. :D
I find that early game a one weapon system is best. You can dedicate all energy to one weapon system and your rate of fire will increase. Idk if damage increases also, but I don’t think so.
You can keep missile systems though, putting only 1 pip of power in them, and be fine since that only affects reload time. Just remember that you have to keep an enemy ship on screen long enough for the 'locking' bar to switch to 'lock' in order for the missiles to gain tracking. It is true though that, at the moment(because it might get nerfed in a patch), swapping weapons for a main cluster of particle cannons with maxed power works wonders.
Great video! But available choices in my game were a bit different. Also, I kept the original Frontier module. It had a bed, and just has that cozy, familiar look. It also has a research station and kitchen, so all the science module really adds in a ddition to that is a pharmaceutical station.
Excellent video! Thank you for that. It gives top notch info on both a particular topic and some help on starting to upgrade and even build generally. Very useful! But are there any necessary skills you need as a prerequisite?
Yay, I started last week and I put about 18 hours into one character but I didn't like her background and I made her a UC Citizen but I wanted her to be more of a nomad so I restarted and now I'm happy with my Enlightened Pilgrim. I have $80+ so I'm ready to upgrade my ship and start an outpost!
Few things to consider if you want to min-max A class ships. I would go one weapon type only, easy to manage energy and only one damaging perk required to be effective. Beam weapons are highly recommended they do everything good. - Shield Generator: 30S Protector vs Marduk 1010-A. You get better Shield capacity to price ratio with 30S and it has 5 max power instead of 4 on Marduk. - Electron Beam: Disruptor 3300 vs PB-30. 59% less cost for 8% less DPS and 86% more range. - Engines: overall the best in the game engines in scope of rates of Mass/Health/Thrust/Manoeuvre/Price will be White Dwarf 1020 for better Manoeuvre and White Dwarf 2010 for better thrust (heavier ships). 4800 and 6350, but you need other dock that sell them. As for other best value out of your money: - Grav Drive: Helios 300 absolute champ if you don't want to invest in ship research perks both in A and B classes - Reactor: 360T Stellarator same here, great value without investment for both A and B classes. - Cargo: Actually the lowest cost one has best ratio of Mass/Cargo/Price, but if you are low on wielding points 116 mass cargo will be second best. - Fuel Tank: 900T He3 will your best Mass/Fuel/Price ratio with M50 Ulysses He3 being second best. While i was writing this comment i noticed that only reason to go for Class B ships without ship research will be PBO-100 Auto Neutron Beam. An i think it's not worth to go to Class B for me personally or i need to invest into ship research perks to validate going Class B ships.

Thanks for the video, very helpful to upgrade the Frontier early (and a good tutorial for the build mode). However, in my game, I don't have the Helios grav drive an the Marduk shield. But the global modification are still doable with lesser part
Not sure if this is different depending on where you build, but for me the workshop module had a research station included. As this is all I need, there was no need for a science lab for me. I also don't use the bed, so all I did was replacing the Frontier module with the Workshop module, which is super cheap and does no need any other upgrades yet.

In a way thanks to your video, i know now that you can steel a ship without being caught or raise any alarms. So all i have to do now is just upgrade a bit here and there
Just add the part ur truna put on the ship and Go on the d pad down and up to layer it out to make sure it fits on the ship. Shit is confusing asf But def made the ship better

5) *Fuel* to increase distance jumping from system to system
6) *Cargo* increase for more Resources
7) *Habs* for comfort and looks
Thanks for the video! I appreciate that you went slowly to make the interface much more understandable, before that, ship building was pretty daunting and uninteresting due to the barrier of entry just from a UI perspective!
Sweet. I plan to keep the Frontier for a while this time through, and this is a fantastic vid. Thanks...
What a fantastic video Great job! You earned yourself an instant subscriber :-)
Thank you for this video!! Seriously helped me soooo much with ship building. Thank you, thank you, thank you
Awesome video. Been stumbling with game in design and this helps greatly. Thank you!
Thank so much for this guide. Now I feel like I have a decent starter ship!
Just the appearance is awesome enough to get a "Like." That looks fearsome.
I had no idea about the double click to colour the whole ship, nice tip!
Thank you for this. Finally got around to playing more Starfield. The system is so bulky and unintuitive I had to look for help. This has got me started. At least for building starships.
some of the options were not aviable for me what level do I need to be for the upgrades?
I did the same but I had the cockpit at the right hand side, assymetrical, and added some Stroud nice curvy "fangs" on the other. Pretty nice stuff, what this game allows for.
Easy tutorial to follow thanks man!
Thank you for taking the time to make the video. I tried to do this exactly as you did on the Xbox but I could not get the Helios 300 it only had the 200 so I went with a different module and I was unable to make the build work. I had too much mass. I messed around a bit and it worked out in the end though. :D
Thank you, this ship help me beat the crimson mission I was stuck on!!!!!!!!
Great video, and tips.
Awesome video, liked, subscribed and here's a comment sir
This was so good I feel like I should’ve paid for it 10/10 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks...been searching for a guide video like this since I started playing about 6 hours ago ..LOL
Legend fr built it the exact way for anyone wondering if it actually helps destroy other ships yes!
You gave me some ideas for moding my Frontier. Thanks!
straight to the point , thank you .
New sub here just from this vid. Thanks for all the great info!
Excellent video! Thank you for that. It gives top notch info on both a particular topic and some help on starting to upgrade and even build generally. Very useful! But are there any necessary skills you need as a prerequisite?
Thank u so much this helped me loads 🤘
Great Video, thank you...i will definitely try this one 🌍💙
Fantastic guide, thanks!
I’m new to SF! I did this build! I made my ship a little more beefy tho! It looks awesome!
This was super helpful "The Frontier" can take more hits.
Thanks for a super helpful and very clear video
We three minutes in and you've blown my mind. I'm sitting here looking at the ship builder like "HUHHHHH". I'm dumb!
Awesome video! Thanks for making this.
Thank you so much for this
😎🥂✨
As for other best value out of your money:
- Grav Drive: Helios 300 absolute champ if you don't want to invest in ship research perks both in A and B classes
- Reactor: 360T Stellarator same here, great value without investment for both A and B classes.
I tried to follow the guide . Problem i have is i dont have the ship parts available that he has. Am i missing something? how did he get them? eg Grav Drive: Helios 300
@@tracks681 level, higher your level more parts available.
Thanks for the info@@CPyJIb
I don't have the same choice of parts at new Atlantis...
I’m on Xbox, what button do I press at 5:35 I don’t see the ‘add hot key’ it’s not letting me highlight it for quicker building. Had to do it the long way. If anyone know lmk for future builds thanks.
Looks like you have to look away from the ship and press A to add and find the engines
Just use one weapon type..in my case the electron beam and pump it to max..watch ships dropped like flies
Electron beams rule!
Thanks for the video, very helpful to upgrade the Frontier early (and a good tutorial for the build mode). However, in my game, I don't have the Helios grav drive an the Marduk shield. But the global modification are still doable with lesser part
Thanks for the tips
You got my sub this is a life saver. tyvm
Not sure if this is different depending on where you build, but for me the workshop module had a research station included. As this is all I need, there was no need for a science lab for me. I also don't use the bed, so all I did was replacing the Frontier module with the Workshop module, which is super cheap and does no need any other upgrades yet.
Update on that: Deimos and Stroud workshops have a research station included, while Nova and Hopetech workshops have not
Dude, using a bed is a must. Sleep cures illness, restores health to full and gives u 10% bonus EXP for 24 hours, all for just 1-2 hours of sleep.
Good informative video, thanks!
You are " Fantastic " Thanx 😀
I was trying to build a ship but doesn't have the skill to build it. So i head out to farm xp and come across a ship docking in port. In a way thanks to your video, i know now that you can steel a ship without being caught or raise any alarms. So all i have to do now is just upgrade a bit here and there
5:35 What is the 'add' hotkey? I'm unable to find this feature, and must resort to guessing what fits or not.
Just add the part ur truna put on the ship and Go on the d pad down and up to layer it out to make sure it fits on the ship. Shit is confusing asf But def made the ship better
The default frontier hab, the all-in-one's, and the living quarters also have beds and they include a galley for cooking which the captain's quarters doesn't. The only issue is that the beds can sometimes end up replaced with a doorway depending how you arrange the habs.
