I am watching hoarder as I recently felt that after my mother passed away I started seeing changes in my nature as I started hoarding but when I started watching this I realised it and stopped immediately.
When my Mom died, I took so many of her things that made me happy to think of her…but then…don’t know why, but it suddenly dawned on me that I really didn’t need her things to remind me of her…that my memories were intact without “things”.
A saw a British show on hoarders. One of the antique experts summarized the difference between "hoarders" & "collectors". He said collectors are organized, they put together "like with like". They put place things in a way that honours what they are displaying. They are involved in the socail aspect in their collections--other people that have the same enthusiasm. Not sure if everyone would agree with that but I thought it was quite interesting.
@@cynicaltruth7486 Yep, I saw one hoarding situation where the guy had hundreds of vinyl records buried under junk. One of the professional team took him to visit a true collector who had his records and memorabilia displayed on shelves and cabinets. The hoarder was so impressed that he ended up with a similar system and got rid of heaps of junk. And then he had the space to actually play the records. He was totally chuffed.
Yeah i think they didn't understand eachother. David suggested dropping the dumpsters closer to save time on the fill up. Matt reacted like he though david wanted the truck to wait around.
That was produced out of context in my opinion. The conversation that led up to the confrontation wasn’t shown. Just seemed like a misunderstanding of where to put it that was dramatized.

@neekoxbaby But it's a toxic illness that always negatively affects others. Children grow up with this. Spouses have to live in filth or really go numb and 1/2 live because of it. It has no positive impact on loved ones, so it's not cold, it's a reality that outside looking in, we can't believe these folks have partners because they are destructive.
And not just a friend but people who seem to really, genuinely love them and who give their time, effort and energy to them to take them under their care, sometimes for years of their lives while seemingly getting little in return and no real commitment or advancement in the relationship. It’s interesting to see, I agree, when many other people can’t seem to even find a date ....and they make every effort to put forth their best selves to present both in their physical person and in their living space ... and are employed, with interests etc . It is fascinating.

That's a good rule!! I had a hard time with my house after multiple roommates, a shopping addiction, and after people brought stuff to my house for a group garage house. My garage and spare rooms were so full of boxes and junk!! But I started getting serious about getting rid of stuff like 2 years ago and I'm happy to say that I've come such a long way!! And I'm still going!! Now I'm really picky with what I buy, and I'm constantly on the look out for stuff I can toss. Feels great to have an open, clean home. This show is a pure inspo
Absolutely! That system works fine for non-hoarders. It doesn't work for hoarders because they have underlying issues that need to be dealt with first.
David has the most beautiful eyes. What a soul. As hoarders we will get it done by whatever means that takes. We will. Quite often, it takes a wake~up call. It's heartening to know that support is out there for us. I've learnt so much watching these stories. I'm grateful.
Anytime I need motivation to do a deep clean of my house I just watch a few hoarder videos...they start me itching and shuddering...and then I scrub my house from top to bottom lol
There is *no way* I would ever choose to get into a relationship with a hoarder!! It would affect my mental and emotional health. I just couldn't do it.
This show really does help me not to hoard. I totally see how people can collect things that they remember from "happy" times. I've done it and had "collected" a lot after losing 4 close family members, a family home in the 2008 recession and then everything I had left by an abusive ex. Doing exceptionally well now and just purchased a home that I am just so in love with. Current economical times certainly scare me after 2008 and I have to tell myself to take a deep breath. And I've also had to check myself numerous times when on Marketplace for wanting to pick up things I don't exactly need or have room for. It just reminds me of someone or place or time that has passed by. I often watch this show for motivation to purge and dust. Thanks to this show, even my baseboard are shiny today. Filled a 25ft dumpster full before we moved and it felt amazing 👏.
This is a very old episode, and she finally left him altogether because he immediately went back to hoarding, and never changed. I don't know why they even bother to show these shows anymore, knowing that 98% of the people go back to hoarding.
It's a mental disorder that has a high relapse rate. It's not surprising that many go back to their comfortable ways. No one is surpised when drug addicts or alcoholics fall of the wagon. This is the same.
The older episodes should end with a "how are they now" feature. I'm sure you're right that the re-hoarding rate is over 90% when the hoarder remains in their home.
Because the show is the only thing willing to help and spend thousands of dollars? Unlike the city that gives out warnings, but don’t have the means to offer any actual help.
He's like loving a mess up child😔. She needs a partner, not a child. She is settling for less, and needs to leave him. And he is too mentally ill to be in a relationship.
Oh my god, watching all those building materials disappear hurt me. I'm building my own house, but prices have gotten crazy in the covid era. I want that stuff!
I’m happy that things got cleaned up, but I seriously do not think he will stop without professional therapy. There’s a reason he collects treasures & I don’t think that was talked about. This is one reason I would LOVE to see an episode that goes back to follow up with hoarders that got this kind of help. Did it work? Are they no longer hoarding? Where are they now in their lives.
They put too high a price on “things.” Also it’s a struggle for control; think about how you would feel if someone took control away from your life. It’s all emotional, and hopefully the hoarders don’t fall back into the same behavior.
Awww it is so freeing unloading the trash from your life it kills me when they follow up and a year later the hoard is back .Such hard nuts to crack it's frustrating how stubborn they can be .
After watching a number of these here on UA-cam, it seems to me that the common hurdle so many hoarders can't get past is that just because something is or could be useful, that doesn't mean it's worth the space it's taking up.
Doesnt know how to deal with it.... you get a 40 yard dumpster rolloff delivered and start filling it up! Bet he's gone right back to the way it was. Hard to imagine not one tax assessor or something never noticed any of this?? it took a complaint, probably by the home across the road.
I don't personal thingsthat you sell because you don't want them is taxable. Unless he had a business where the purchases have been deductable I doubt tax agency would be interested.
I swear that’s me and my brother. We did something exactly like this yesterday since we had an empty bookcase but everything he had a beverage he put it on there instead of tossing it out so I walked in his room yesterday to see 500 empty water bottles and soda cans and he’s completely unbothered sleeping next to it like it’s not there. When people are hoarders or just “messy” you realize how they see things. If you go into a room and see something on the floor a normal person would prob pick it up instead of just walking over it without even looking down or sweeping around a chair instead of moving it
From looking at what was being cleaned up outside, at least they were loading the lumber and the building logs onto flat trailers instead of in the dumpsters so at least he was going to get some resale value from the hoard. He had more order and organization to the hoard in and outside the house but it was still overly cluttered and cramped. Compared to other episodes of "Hoarders" where you can't even see the floors and whole rooms are completely full to the ceiling his house was the cleanest by far. I hope he continues to do better for him and his girlfriends' sake.

How can the city claim parts of private land? surely they need to pay you back
Eminent domain
I'm not a hoarder, I'm a collector.
- Also me.
David has a volitile temper!! The way he "blew up" at Matt was creepy! His girlfriend should RUN!!!
"i have disorded with order". 😅👍
After watching a lot of your videos I'm sure gonna clean and throw some of my staffs.. This motivates me not to keep the things I don't use and or donate it.. It's all in the mind..
I don't think your staff is going to enjoy being thrown about.
so thankful I’m super sensitive to clothing and once it slightly gets old I donate it lol
Me too. Any fading at all and its out lol
If the "ergonomics" of having the dumpster put in the wrong spot is not perfect, that's not David's problem. And if it *is* a problem Matt can decide to put the next dumpster somewhere else. Jesus.
Some hoarders just need to live closer to the rubbish tip
Aww they love each other so much ❤
"THIS IS NOT SMAAART!" - Well, I guess that argument was lost when he hoarded all the stuff :D
Is it just me or does the sister look like Roseanne and the guy sounds like John Goodman?
I miss not knowing how they got this way ☹️🧐
The participants saying, "I am a hoarder", is the 1st step of getting healed.
My sister and I monitor our mom…she is a hoarder but we keep her in check…thank god
Its not *fun* stuff if you can't enjoy it.
It still looks messy and cluttered.
Bro just took somebody’s yard work materials when they went in for lemonade.
Omg so cute !!!! Diana is a sweetie pie. ❤
It's a sad sickness
Let him lose his house this guy is a jerk.
Thank you for download ing this video.
Wow I love David!
I don't know but to me it looks like everything is just boxed up and put up against the walls.
Yes👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤮🤮🤮
I still see too many boxes........
I always wonder if all the stuff builds up again.
I’ve watched every update episode and with the exception of 2 or 3 people, the rest go back to it.
Use that wheelbarrow for a fairy garden... I wish I had that. My wheelbarrow is falling apart😞
From what the end result is he’s going right back where he stated from
All I could think of while watching this was how much that guy sounded like John Goodman.
Does anyone know the name of the full episode? I tried to search for David in Michigan but no luck. Thanks!
Season 7 episode 6.
@@meghanh6745 Thanks!🌞
His house is like a thrift shop
This guy should appreciate the people they came to help him out and his arguments with them..If I was they shoes I leave and let Police Officer's handle it🤔..
My father is a paper/cardboard box hoarder and they all act like this when it comes to getting rid of their stuff. I just have to remind myself that it is a mental disorder but was yelled at most of my time living at home. When you grow up you realize how much more important the stuff is.
The people who work with hoarders are Saints!
I don’t know how they’re able to stay so calm?
A guy named David who LIVES in David? Crazy coincidence.
What you do bet one of his own people called and complained on him?
David and his sister sound like John Goodman and Roxanne.
