    Here are some materials I use. If you want to support me, consider purchasing them via these links.
    The paints I use are 'Old Holland' from Dutch factory 'Scheveningen'. These have a very high pigment load and are very thick. This way you can add your medium of choice, without thinning the paint too much. I usually get 225ml tubes which saves about 30%. The tubes last a long time, on average I use about 1 225ml tube a year for each color. The set I use, in the actual order I have them on my palette:
    Titanium white: 40ml: amzn.to/34lTQkH 225ml: amzn.to/3c9EjqR
    Scheveningen yellow lemon: 40ml: amzn.to/2JVWMuE 225ml: amzn.to/2xYFWc2
    Cadmium yellow deep: 40ml: amzn.to/3c3rpud 225ml: amzn.to/3aXmlaS
    Scheveningen orange: 40ml: amzn.to/2UWmR3e 225ml: amzn.to/2Rmxwlp
    Scheveningen red medium: 40ml: amzn.to/3aWu1dx 225ml: amzn.to/2xkaQvk
    Alizarin crimson: 40ml: amzn.to/2V9kNne 225ml: amzn.to/3eaIrZi
    Dioxazine mauve: 40ml: amzn.to/2JUxmxz 225ml: amzn.to/3eeIhQX
    Ultramarine blue deep: 40ml: amzn.to/2RrAwgv 225ml: amzn.to/39SutYV
    Transparent oxide red: 40ml: amzn.to/2Rkf5ht 225ml: amzn.to/39WSKwS
    Scheveningen green deep: 40ml: amzn.to/39Rrsb3 225ml: amzn.to/2wwSPK8
    Sap green lake extra: 40ml: amzn.to/2xk9ctE 225ml: amzn.to/2Vdv0zj
    Ivory black 40ml: amzn.to/2JVYcFu 225ml: amzn.to/2UURoye
    Occasionally I use a small amount of this very saturated blue/green, but I don't keep it on my palette: Scheveningen blue: 40ml: amzn.to/2ViAPLA 225ml: amzn.to/2RrCFZB
    My standard medium that I've been using lately, consists of equal parts venetian turpentine and linseed oil:
    Talens venetian turpentine amzn.to/3aVTBz3
    W&N Stand oil amzn.to/3aUR5JC
    W&N Linseed oil amzn.to/34pUpKn
    Some brushes I use: cheap hog bristles for initial lay in, similar to these: amzn.to/2VxdYfL, long script liner brushes for details, eg. these Da Vinci ones: amzn.to/3a5Q0xb (size 10 or so). Other favorite brushes of mine are Rosemarys bristles, and Talens Van Gogh round ox hair brushes.

    It is very generous to so freely share your techniques ... and means a great deal to those of us who cannot attend formal art training. Best Wishes.

    Beautiful painting. Outstanding techniques. Great control. You paint the same way my professor taught me how to paint. background middle ground, highlights, detailing. Very nice. Watching this painting demostration make me want to start painting again instead of sculpting so much.

    hi ana. thnx..
    I use titanium white, burnt siena or transparent oxide red, ultramarine blue dark, cadmium yellow light and dark, alizarine crimson, scheveningen red, viridian and a dark purple of which I don't know the name right now. All paints are of the 'old holland' brand.. All other colors I mix..

    hi.. before I start to paint I 'oil out' the panel with a mixture of equal parts liquin and linseed oil (or stand oil). I use the same medium while painting. Sometimes I add some mineral spirits when I need thinner paint (eg to paint a thin line)

    hmm teacher, maybe sometime in the future... I don't know about cracking, I don't think so. Liquin (alkyd resin) a very durable and flexible stuff. I've never seen a single crack in any one of my paintings, no matter how many layers...

    @OrengeeEshee Dont remember about this movie ,I thing robert simmons titanium. Lately I've been using hog hair flats to start with, then lare hous painter's brushes for softening, and also small flat sable brushes and sable liners for details. In my other pear-movie I used a synthetic (rather stiff, short hair) to paint the table edge. Please cf the other pear movie...

    hi my name is Ana is awesome your ability to paint. I just have a question... which colors you use???? I mean I can see it but the number color. I have a pair of painting I did of watermelons, really abstract and contemporary, that is my style.

    hello, if I paint in more than 1 layer, i wait for a day or so. But this one was painted in one layer (wet-into-wet) without waiting

  • @josvanr
    @josvanr  14 років тому

    @mar00725 I think I just skipped a part of the original video. Just kept on painting. To smooth out parts of the wet painting I sometimes use large, empty brushes , the kind that house painters use ('elma 59-0.75')..

  • @josvanr
    @josvanr  15 років тому

    yes I skipped some time to make the movie shorter.. I thought the most interesting things had been done. Only some softening there....
