Here are some materials I use. If you want to support me, consider purchasing them via these links.
The paints I use are 'Old Holland' from Dutch factory 'Scheveningen'. These have a very high pigment load and are very thick. This way you can add your medium of choice, without thinning the paint too much. I usually get 225ml tubes which saves about 30%. The tubes last a long time, on average I use about 1 225ml tube a year for each color. The set I use, in the actual order I have them on my palette:
Titanium white: 40ml: amzn.to/34lTQkH 225ml: amzn.to/3c9EjqR
Scheveningen yellow lemon: 40ml: amzn.to/2JVWMuE 225ml: amzn.to/2xYFWc2
Cadmium yellow deep: 40ml: amzn.to/3c3rpud 225ml: amzn.to/3aXmlaS
Scheveningen orange: 40ml: amzn.to/2UWmR3e 225ml: amzn.to/2Rmxwlp
Scheveningen red medium: 40ml: amzn.to/3aWu1dx 225ml: amzn.to/2xkaQvk
Alizarin crimson: 40ml: amzn.to/2V9kNne 225ml: amzn.to/3eaIrZi
Dioxazine mauve: 40ml: amzn.to/2JUxmxz 225ml: amzn.to/3eeIhQX
Ultramarine blue deep: 40ml: amzn.to/2RrAwgv 225ml: amzn.to/39SutYV
Transparent oxide red: 40ml: amzn.to/2Rkf5ht 225ml: amzn.to/39WSKwS
Scheveningen green deep: 40ml: amzn.to/39Rrsb3 225ml: amzn.to/2wwSPK8
Sap green lake extra: 40ml: amzn.to/2xk9ctE 225ml: amzn.to/2Vdv0zj
Ivory black 40ml: amzn.to/2JVYcFu 225ml: amzn.to/2UURoye
Occasionally I use a small amount of this very saturated blue/green, but I don't keep it on my palette: Scheveningen blue: 40ml: amzn.to/2ViAPLA 225ml: amzn.to/2RrCFZB
My standard medium that I've been using lately, consists of equal parts venetian turpentine and linseed oil:
Talens venetian turpentine amzn.to/3aVTBz3
W&N Stand oil amzn.to/3aUR5JC
W&N Linseed oil amzn.to/34pUpKn
Some brushes I use: cheap hog bristles for initial lay in, similar to these: amzn.to/2VxdYfL, long script liner brushes for details, eg. these Da Vinci ones: amzn.to/3a5Q0xb (size 10 or so). Other favorite brushes of mine are Rosemarys bristles, and Talens Van Gogh round ox hair brushes. - Фільми й анімація
Your blending and highlighting sensibilities are suburb. You are truly a gifted fine artist. Thank you for these tutorials.
Oh
My goodness
It is so touching
I just subscribed your channel since these days
But you have been posting videos over ten years
It is a love and expression in your life
Its become somewhat of a project... my life's work.. thnx
I always learn something from your videos!
As seemingly simple as this little study is, it shows the value of classic method.
Rough sketch, background and shadow first, transparent darks to show form, then opaque lights and mid-tones, blending, adjusting values & color, saving details for last. Superb!
Thanks for sharing your talent with the world, it is a perfect piece of art
wauw wat kan jij prachtig schilderen ,op een gegeven moment lijk je wel in de appel te gaan met je penseel zo echt is die appel , echt super je andere video's ook, geweldig
One could grab it out of your painting and eat it, so very realistic it looks. :) And I love all that sounds of the city in the background!
This was an awesome video. I'm sooo sorry it's gone!!!!
noooooooooooooooooo way !!! i love it !!!!
just amazing! God bless those hands!
wow! it looks tri dimensional! what a great realistic apple!
@eruheltgo As for all colors I usually just look and take a guess, paint that, and then compare to the subject, and adjust if necessary. The cast shadow on a white surface is kind of grey. And if you paint that (eg ultramarine + transparent ox red for 'black' + white) you'll see that the shadow in the subject may have a slightly different color. Maybe greener, or bluer, or yellower or whatever.. then I adjust the mixture a bit and try again....
Marvelous! Thank you for sharing and inspiring others.
yes wet into wet, ie keep painting until it is finished (with no dtrying pauses inbetween). The brushes: robert simmons titanium, a small flat camel hair brush and som larger brushes to soften large areas (don't know the specific brand, but thes are from the hardware store and are a bit softer than hog hair)
Thanks from the bottom of my heart for all the tips .....watched a few of your videos, given me much inspiration!
Now I have to go out at 10:00 at night in the cold to get apples to eat!!!! Thanks alot!!!
Wonderful painting!
Thanks for sharing your talent with us, you are very gifted and I enjoyed this piece of art
@cocosebola I use a small hous-painter's brush (there is no brand on it). It has long synthetic hair with thickness the same as hog, but its a bit softer. For tapping/smoothing out paint with a dry brush, you need a brush that is not to hard (or you get scratches) but also one that hasn't got too dense hair (otherwise it will lift off too much paint).
What a fascinating painting. !!! Great !
Minden elismeresem!!!!! Gratulalok!!!!
hi thnx.... You can find a couple of full video's (slow, real time) on the blog oilpaintingdemos.blogspot.com . These are kind of step by step. Maybe some time I will do the apple. There is a similar one on the blog though (pomegranate)...
I love all your paintings, I can also tell which ones are your on daily painters, watching you paint has helped me improve my own painting skills, thanks.
Very nice I like it,good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
simply superb!!
Oh my god!! absolutely amazing!!, really helpful video thanks.
Splendid!
Saludos de la República dominicana
Parabéns. Linda. Pintura
hi, I also use 1 brush for all colors. Thing to do is to clean the brush when next color you want to apply is very different from the last one....
Great work!
thnx!.. For blending colors I use a dry brush or a brush with a bit of medium on it. This only works when the paint is still wet....
So good! Thanks for sharing your secrets
I would like to see how you set up your subject
Thanks
Amazing! Its a glowing apple :)
Tamara Geddes
Wonderful!! Wish to try
well, buy an apple and get started :)
@jojoptoni09 its masonite board coated with acrylic gesso. Medium was (I believe) equal parts stand oil and liquin...
Nice one my friend.
love you!
wow that was amazing!
Just subbed,Love the still life's 🎨😊
1) the paint is very rich in pigment (old holland paint) so is very opaque, ie it's easier to cover wet paint 2) I used a quit thick / sticky medium. Usually I use stand oil , sometimes combined with venice turp , linseed oil or liquin...
Absolutely beautiful! I love it! I am partial to still life and I like fruit more than anything else because of the color variety (I'm big into color). Your apple is just magnificent, bravo to you! :-)
@BumbleDumle the only stupid thing is not to ask! It's oil color......
@Krystinell its a dutch apple... (no shadow from stem)
thnx... I dont exactly remember which colors, but I guess: Darkest parts: alizarine crimson, transparent oxide red, sap green. Middle tone parts: scheveningen red light, cadmium yellow dark, and maybe some black/white to grey down the color Light parts: cadmium yellow dark, lemon yellow, white (titanium).... If you have trouble with color mixing I can recommend Helen van Wyck's books......
I love the noise in the background as much as the painting.
i have just one observation: the base have to stay in the same position like in the start...
but... IT'S AMAZING!! I love this paint
@MaskoftheWraith hi maskof, keep trying, for me, oil paint is the only medium that gives me the entire range of expression I want (tone, hue, saturation largest range of all mediums i think) Also use good quality paint (old holland/rembrandt etc). Less-pigmented paint is more difficult to get good results. One hint: oil out your canvas/panel before you start....
hello, At the time I painted this apple, I used olorless mineral spirit for cleaning the brush. Then dip in medium again before proceeding. At the moment I use linseed oil to clean.......
IT´S WONDERFUL
thnxx
Good work!!
THNXX
belisima ;) great job
I do agree that the apple is amazing, looks like a photograph.
and maybe the video can be uploaded completely, but by uploading the different parts and numbering them "Part 1" "Part 2"...
hi, I think it was titanium white, ultramarine blue and transaprent oxide red, but in different proportions
I love it...
yes, its 'old holland', an oil paint with very high pigment concentraton, ie the opaques are very opaque. Facilitates over painting
You Are Amazing ..I like It . good job.
you mean the lighting etc? I'll try to include that in the next video..
hermoso trabajo
its a large paintbrush from the hardware store (for painting wood etc) used without paint. (ie dry brush.) The hair is a bit softer than hog hair, which is good for smudging large areas of paint.
thnx... Usually my panels dont move around a lot. But sometimes I clamp a piece of mdf to its side to make shure I can put it back in exactly the same position for the webcam...
before I start to paint I cover the panel with some medium (equal parts stand oil and liquin). This facilitates making smooth gradients of color. When the paint is on the panel, I even it out with a dry brush. The brush must have rather stiff hairs (to be able to move around the paint) but the density of hairs must not be too large (so it will not take too much paint off the panel). I found synthetic brushes as used to paint windows and such to be very suitable for this...
man that looks like a real apple. like wow.
i give u props.
is it possible to get that smooth with acrylic?
Parece muy profesional la pintura 🎨
Mr. Professional i love the end ressult very realistic although i love it when the apple has all those messy lines, if i were to 'try' and paint that i wouldnt no which way to go, realisitic or messy lol, oo maybe a mix
wow....wonderfull
@yourcauseofdeath think I dont have many blending techniques: just apply the right color in touches, make shure there is enough paint there to cover the surface wel, then work through it with an empty brush. The latter should be such that it allows to move paint around (ie not too soft) and it shouldn't pick up too much paint (ie density of hairs not too large)
hi cafcufcan,
thnx.... btw: its on masonite panel (with white gesso)
@dcopley51 thnx.... this one was painted on masonite board, prepared with acrylic gesso. I use a 'full spectrum' palette.....
SOOOOOOOO nice! You are very talented!!! I've only done 2 still life pics and they were mediocre.
amazing work! thank u for sharing this. how do u clean your brush in between different colors?
Lovely, but shouldn't the stem cast a shadow onto the lower portion of the apple?
hi, great video. is there a special brush you use to kind of smudge/blend the colours of the apple together?
hi, its oil ('old holland') Medium was equal parts liquin and stand oil.....
how many brush do you use?i use only one brush and you know what happens.coulors goes together and at the end i have only one colour of my apple.
@jojoptoni09 o yes, in that sense the medium was oil paint. I used liquin and stand oil as painting medium, to change the consistency of the oil paint...
@robin22391 hi, this one was on tempered masonite panel.....
there are some that can do this but I think it is more difficult.......
very good, what color did you use for the darker side of the block, and you did what color shade.'m Peruvian greetings
Que rica pintura 🎨
hello, it was oils ('old holland' brand)
@InnovationalFilms its 'Old Holland' oil paint...
Love your painting demos. How do you keep your panels from moving around as you paint? Thanks!
How could you put white on the blue-ish purplish background while its still wet? Why didnt the white paint get mixed?
Thanks! :)
thnx ! I hope you keep watching !
Any tips for a beginner painter who is interested in using watercolor paints?
In painting landscapes?
ThANKS
btw, awesome painting!!!
the best I have ever seen!
Wow. You are awesome, man! I have a question about the cast shadows. What colours do you use? How do you decide what colours to use..?
@Acification95 no watercolors I don't know.... Maybe google for Trevor Chamberlain...
Me gustó los detalles de la manzana
(and I'm just seeing now that I also used a langnickle 5590 nr 2 in the end)
klasse Arbeit!
reinhold
You are an amazing artist!!!! I am addicted to watching your videos. Are you painting on canvas in this video?
@r1a7w yes, tempered masonite..
Hi.i like ur painting demos but i just dont understand how you paint light and shade
njamiii
Thnx can you use acrylic to paint like this
@bisakol71 you got it right!
@iReimu nope its oil color...
you made it so realistic... but you forgot that the apple's stem throws a shadow too. :P
p.s. Does he use paint for the shadow or another medium?
Edit: Does he use Oil Paint for the shadow or another kind of paint/medium?
