When “Take on Me” started playing as they went down the escalators that’s when it hit me. I love this story. Anyone thats played the games know that’s not a subtle song choice
Having joel conscious for that scene was just so amazing. He conveyed so many emotions with no words and just his eyes. I love Pedro, he needs all the awards. Bella too, she did so great this episode
Bella is actually incredible, her emotion is so believable it's insane. I literally on my first watchthrough had to play back her bite scene in the moment because her delivery of just saying "no" was CRAZY real. That and the way she yelled at Joel to "stfu!" Damn.
No.... She's pretentious, ugly as a 💩 and a terrible actress.... And she's On a terrible show that is Sooooo boring I get angry watching it because literally Nothing happens. This is overrated trash and you know it
I love that Joel was actually awake. In the game he is never shown conscious after falling off the horse until he wakes up after Ellie gets in trouble with David. Having Joel tell her to leave him and go back to Tommy and then her staying with him and stitching him up while he tries not to scream and freak her out was just perfect. Better then the game
Yeah, I think in the game they did that to create an atmosphere of loneliness since we were going to play as Ellie being alone and defenseless, we had to feel her fear, but here we are not going to play as Ellie, we're going to watch her so it's different, we don't need that atmosphere that much.
For the game, Joel being barely conscious in the game creates a sense of dread and suspense that all of the responsibility lies in Ellie to pull through to keep Joel alive. I find that works extremely well in Left Behind and the main story since Joel's dire condition emphasizes the player's need to act quickly, which also heightens the tension. It also gave way to the tender moment when Ellie said, "You're gonna make it.." while she caresses Joel's forehead and rests beside him. There's a nice contrast that is established as well when Joel gets up searching for her by fighting/torturing David's men, all while being fairly weak and nearly on the brink of death; despite that, he'll fight with all his strength to save Ellie, reinforcing how deep the bond between the two has become.
Storm Reid was fantastic as Riley. The set design was so breathtaking. And even Pedro’s performance, so much emotion in so little screen time. It’s so amazing to fall in love with this story all over again through the show.
That's the best way to put it, falling in love with this story again that's really what it feels like. Moments like these especially remind you exactly why this game and story is so special. Love it.
Can I just say that I absolutely love being able to listen to you guys talk for an hour about your intentions and thoughts behind the creation of each episode immediately after watching every week? It's really enriching for the material. I'm loving every part of this.
From the moment the kiss happened, I cried. I cried for the rest of the episode, even after the credits I was still crying. It hit me like a sack of bricks, knowing the relevance of it. She literally had a flashback to Riley, the person she had spent hours, days, weeks, months, thinking about what she could have done differently. She’s thought about this before with Joel, what she would do if every different scenario came true if she had to save his life. Just like Joel has with Ellie, and ultimately Sarah. Just like Ellie with Riley. She is using her mental scenario training from her trauma and hypothetical daydreaming that is an aftereffect of her traumatic event with Riley, to make a fast decision on whether or not she will leave Joel in such a crucial situation. I’m in shambles.
@Violet lol yeah the people that played the game and the ones that didnt 🤣....its a great episodes! Just the game gives you so much more! It's kind of like when people say "the book is better than the movie" kind of thing. But I'm glad you like it!
For me this has been the best performance for a lead in a show so far this year. And considering what lies ahead, I can't imagine someone else winning the Emmy.
Just Like Heaven was the perfect needle drop for that scene. Just like everything else, the music choices are also incredible in this show. A brilliant show all around.
@@jrod8574 100%. I’m happy with the gameplay sections being cut, because much of it is not applicable to a super realistic context. What are the real life chances that a 14 year old girl would actually be able to mow through several adults/infected like that? It would be silly, and then people would be complaining about plot armor. 🙃
This was such a faithful and beautiful adaptation of Left Behind my God 🥺 Kudos as always to everyone involved. What a massive undertaking this show is and they've done such an incredible job.
I mean it's HBO. they don't need ads. for them to run ads in a complimentary piece to their biggest show would make it not prestige tv. this is just free marketing and advertising for the show for them
I love that Troy pointed out the parallel with Ellie looking out at Boston’s skyline and Ellie looking towards the glowing mall concourse. Bravo, DOP! When I started watching gameplay again, I forgot how violent “The Last of Us” was. So Craig including Mortal Kombat was perfect. I remember in the 90s I wasn’t even allowed to play that game after my sisters and I had rented it from Blockbuster. (My age is showing.😩) All cuz my mom thought it was too violent for us; it was the blood, haha. I like how the episode scaled down the DLC ending. When people play it for the first time, they’ll be treated with such high adrenaline action sequences. The episode still captures the hopelessness and melancholy when the girls discover they’re infected, which was 👏🏼chef’s kiss.
I love that Neil made the story and game but he lets Craig talk the most about the show and game because he loves it, because that's how he is, he made the game because of love and wanted us to feel love
I was worried from the previous episode that it seemed kind of rushed for people who haven't played the game if they would love ellie as much as we do. I stand corrected, the way they mirrored riley and joel's relationship to ellie was so beautiful and heart wrenching. I didn't fully grasp ellie's fear of ending up alone in the game because she seemed so strong. This episode made me fear for ellie even though I know how things played out because it was like I was in that moment with her. Thinking about how helpess she feels trying to save joel and reminded of how riley turned and she didn't. Then to see her jump to action stitching him up and how they bonded relying on each other was very satisfying to watch. I'm so glad to see joel awake in these moments not because I thought he might die but because the eye contact made between Joel and ellie says so much. Even though Joel doesn't say anything at the end but the eye contact to me was saying I trust you ellie to do what is needed. He could've resisted and tried to stitch it himself but he accepted and appreciated what she was trying to do. What he said in the beginning was out of stubbornness and trying to act tough. Seeing his vulnerability and acceptance of her efforts is so heartwarming.
You can tell how much passion is put into this show. Episode 7 was incredible. When Take on Me played I shed a lot of tears because of its significance to Ellie’s character and the Last of Us in general. That moment felt like you were rewarding the fans of the games for their investment and attachment to the games. Bella’s performance felt so real and genuine. The scene when Ellie and Riley got infected was so emotional. Left Behind Together playing when the credits rolled was so perfect. Thank you for this amazing show and thank you to everyone for their performances. This show will be remembered for its incredible performances and storytelling for decades.
the choices of directors has been top tier too. the next two episodes are directed by Ali Abbasi who directed a great film last year called Holy Spider. I can't wait to see how his style translates to this story and world!
Episodes 8 and 9 better be 2 hours a piece! I can’t handle having such a short time with these characters left, plus I feel like there’s still a lot of story to tell
@@RA-nw9xy still there needs to be enough quantity to tell the story well. My only big complaint for the series is the pace feels super fast at least compared to the game I wish we had more downtime with Joel and Ellie just traveling, hanging out ect. but it’s always onto the next thing I think the series needed another 2-3 episodes to help with the pace of the other episodes and let the story as a whole slow down I think the first 3 episodes pacing was good tho we’ve just been storming through these last couple is all
@@ShadowGaming-xw8zj You’re kinda just misremembering, the show has about as much runtime as the game, the games about 12-14 hours tops, the shows what? 8-9? And they cut out majority of the gameplay/combat bits so they’ve honestly had a pretty solid amount of time, this story just moves real quick after Joel finds Tommy.
they nail it every time. shout out to everyone who made this show happen. i love the game and see the show as a true companion piece. the expansion of the lore & the minor and major alterations for the different medium only enrich the game's characters and story even more.
Agreed. I come straight to YT after each show. This was a good idea. Perhaps more shows will do it in the future. I hope they continue these for Season 2.
@@thehoopman88 yeah but i think it wouldn't make sense for them to get soaked in that situation, also Bella said she used a chest binder on most shoots so that could get exposed. also maybe time limit.
I like how they took the doll store infected from the cut snowed out mall from the game and put them in the Boston mall in the show. They’ve done such a great job making the threats and violence so much more realistic. It does only take one infected.
they're directed by a really great director, Ali Abbasi. he directed a great film last year called Holy Spider. def check that out if you have time. I think his style will fit perfectly with these last two episodes
Last week we learnt what is keeping Joel going, this week why Ellie keeps going (both driven by fear, one side pessimism the other more optimistic), next week we light the fire and ride this thing out through the finale. Very impressed with the adaptation (though this continual brick erasure will be something I cannot forgive! I am of course joking, much love & congrats to the crew).
39:23 I already knew just from the first few notes that that song was Just Like Heaven from the Cure. I actually kind of nerded out cause its a such a good song first of all but just how it fit so well the context of this scene with Ellie and Riley. Chefs kiss!
You guys did a great job showing the end of The Last of Us Left Behind - I loved everything about this episode but mostly Joel and Ellie’s moment of holding hands 😢❤
Baraka and Mileena of Mortal Kombat II are lovers that both Ellie and Riley chose to fight as at the arcade. Whether the creators knew it or not, their gameplay did showcase a grim foreshadowing.
I knew I would love this episode, and it is by far my favorite. What I didn't expect is how that love has grown as the days have gone on. This is the last of us distilled into something that is just as beautiful and magical, as it is heartbreaking and tragic. Also I have been absolutely obsessed with that lullaby version of Just like Heaven. It will forever been an emotional song for me now
Another aspect to the body falling through the floor is that its a natural reaction to laugh after you're scared, like in a scary movie. I do think that Ellie has some darkness in her, for sure. We've seen that a few times.. and we see it for SURE in season 2.
Season 2? What are you on about? Part 2 doesn't exist. Unless you're reffering to that wierd fanfiction who had the director self insert himself into fcking the Incredible Sulk and killing or mangling beloved characters
The decision to light up the mall and let them play MK2 was fantastic. Showing how much fun and excitement they are having really sets up the infected waking up. Even innocent childhood behavior in this world has consequences. Are you willing to sacrifice your life for these moments?
This episode was once again perfection. It was happy and sweet but suspenseful throughout. I don't know the game story so I was hoping we wouldn't get the bad ending and Riley was going to be one of those people that Ellie mentioned in episode 6 who had "left her" rather than died.
I love the show so much I can hardly get through the week for each episode, but this podcast makes the experience so much cooler and so much richer. You can hear Craig Mazin and Neil Durckmann's passion for what they're doing. It's no wonder they do it so beautifully.
I have been loving this show so far and listening to all the podcasts and recap videos.. but man my dreams have been insane lately 😂 I’m constantly fighting an apocalypse every night I sleep. my brain has been so immersed in this story!
Even though I'd never played the games, I already knew how this story ended, which, honestly, made it all the more tragic. They were so happy, having so much fun, and in a matter of minutes, it was all taken away from them.
I absolutely got the merry go round/ just like heaven cure reference immediately, but only bc when I saw Ellie with her walkman, it brought back my own 14y/o walkman memories of starting every day listening to the cure/disintegration as I was first to take steps through the newly fallen & falling snow, during the few prescious moments where I was the only person on earth, it seemed as I made my way to the bus stop. As I listened & walked through that winter wonderland I used to think "I could die right now & be just fine" 🙏 💜
The Last of Us part 1 (haven’t played part 2 yet) is one of my favorite video games ever, and I’m not a PlayStation guy. My cousin, who isn’t a gamer at all, sat and watched me play through the entire thing. When they say video games are art, The Last of Us is what they’re talking about.
Left Behind is one of the best stories I've ever played through, so when I saw that it was going to be a part of the series... I was both excited and fearful, but it was bloody beautiful! The joy, relief, dread, fear, love, sadness, humour, all of it, was perfectly paced and (though 55 minutes won't be the same as the run time of the DLC) it was an excellent adaptation that achieved the same goal of that DLC. This show really surprised me, it's a beautiful combination of old & new, and this podcast is an excellent companion-piece filled with so much heart, care, and thought. Thank you, just thank you.
57:28 Remember in the first episode’s podcast where they describe how Craig first pitched the game to HBO, and how one of the executives said Craig started floating? And how Neil decided to just sit back and watch this megafan make the pitch for him? I can hear him starting to float here, and I can hear Neil smiling
I've seen an interview with Bella Ramsey where she said that the script, she received did not include a scene where Riley dies. it's more impactful to leave how that played out to the viewers imagination. So, I'm using my imagination and the information we get in the show for what may have happened. Keep in mind that Marlene has been keeping tabs on Ellie since she put her in FEDRA school. She tells Riley that her friend Ellie can't join the Fireflies. She does not want Ellie leaving the school where she can watch out for her as she promised her friend, Ellies mother that she would. She may have decided to send Riley to Atlanta to keep her away from Ellie because she doesn't want her to lure Ellie away from the safety of the FEDRA school. She might even have approached Riley to join the Fireflies in the first place for the purpose of separating them from each other. When they are both bitten, they decided to stay together in the mall until they turn. Of course, Ellie is never going to turn so one of two things happen. First Riley turns and attacks Ellie who is forced to kill her, then the Fireflies with Marlene come looking for Riley and the pipe bombs she's made and discover Ellie. We know that Marlene prevented the Fireflies from shooting Ellie and instead took her back to their HQ and chained her up until she turned, probably because Marlene was still thinking of Ellie's mother and wanted to give Ellie as much time as she could before having to kill her. Then when she didn't turn after a day or two, she kept her chained for three weeks to be sure of what seemed to be impossible, her immunity. She even contacted the Firefly doctors on the west coast telling them about Ellie and received a reply to get her there for testing, the message that she showed Amy when she pressed her about what was up with Ellie. The second scenario is the same as the first with the exception being that Ellie didn't kill Riley. The Fireflies came looking for Riley and the bombs, found her changed and attacking Ellie and shot her. Then seeing Ellie's bite, they assumed that Riley bit her and were ready to shoot Ellie as well until Marlene stopped them. In those scenarios Ellie is feeling either guilt over having to shoot Riley or survivors guilt over Riley being killed by the Fireflies while she remains alive due to the immunity that she didn't know she had. Either way it's Riley she is talking about when she tells Joel that Bryan wasn't the first person she killed. She doesn't mean the infected who bit them both or even the one in the basement that she killed. That one she cut and killed out of anger and revenge for Riley's death which is why she didn't tell Joel about it because that killing was about Riley. She told Tess about being bitten in the mall and could have used that encounter as the first kill she told Joel she had. By not wanting to talk about it even though she asks Joel questions just like that, she is showing that she doesn't trust herself not to slip up and mention Riley. When Joel is trying to talk about her feelings over shooting Bryan, she is struggling to find a way to tell him that she wasn't traumatized by it, so she says it wasn't her first time. She realizes that this will lead to talking about Riley and shuts down, much like Joel does over mention of Sarah. They are both scarred by loss and unable to deal with it out in the open. This really is about love in all its varied and complicated forms, how it can harm you and save you. it's the motivation for the best and worst in us and is never as simple and pure as we would like it to be. This is a serious meditation on love and what it means to be human wrapped up in both in a game and entertainment. A remarkable achievement.
Neil I get it, I am OBSESSED with Pearl Jam since my 14 years old 😂 I am a walking database of their music and story. SO HAPPY to see them tied to this world again! Thank u for this!!!!
I loved the episode. It was beautiful. I selfishly wish we could’ve seen what became of Riley. It’s obvious that Ellie learns that she’s immune, but what of Riley.? Did she turn.? Was she left to roam the mall.? Did she take the “easy” way out.? Did she ask Ellie to do it, or was Ellie forced to in self defense.? It was always a question I had after I played the Left Behind DLC. Regardless, a beautiful retelling. Can’t wait for what’s to come. It’s only going to get more emotional from this point on. 🥺😭 Endure & Survive. 👏❤️
Well, if you haven't seen it yet, we do get a little more information in the last episode. So there's a little bit more of the story pieced together :)
Very smart choice to not show Riley die at the end just like the game. We can put the pieces together. That isn’t the point. The point is that we end on Riley talking about how important it is to keep fighting to spend time with the ones we love, even if it’s only for a few minutes. Then using Riley’s words as inspiration for Ellie to keep on fighting to spend as much time with Joel was so good. The shot of Joel and Ellie holding hands, harkening back to Riley and Ellie holding hands was so impactful. This show is able to make a simple hand hold feel like a big crowd pleasing moment. It’s so good. All things considered, I feel like this is a very happy ending. Yeah tragedy happens of course, but they tease out the beauty inside of the tragedy, and to me that is the core of The Last of Us. The beauty encased within the tragedy that allows us to be greater than what we suffer.
Got emotional as soon as I heard pearl jam. I love this song, such a good choice. The first line hit hard, immediately thinking of Ellie's situation and the coming situation with Riley. Got me thinking when Ellie stabs the runner in the head.. maybe that's why she stabs the trapped runner in ep'3.. like 'this is for Riley.'
I think they've said that they're spreading out the first game's story over the first two seasons. So we're likely getting at least 4 planned seasons, if they split up Part 2's story into two seasons as well.
@@grayden4138 they aren’t spreading the first game out over 2 seasons. The first season is the first game. I’d think they’d spread the 2nd game out into 2 seasons though. A lot more story.
This was an incredible faithful adaptation. I do admit I kind of felt like I wanted a change, the show had done so well at totally subverting expectations but for a show only fan I imagine this was great. My wife kept asking for the 7th episode what is going on who is this what is gonna happen. Usually I’d say wait to not ruin it but I said wait because I wasn’t even sure if what played would happen. They have some such an excellent job at this, they made this thing for a game fan to watch with a new fan and literally I can’t ever imagine this wasn’t one of the main pitches because of how well they execute this idea thus far.
The attention to detail about the sound arcade was fantastic. Played a lot of Tekken Tag at Tilt with my Brother when I was a teenager. So that took me back. The timing is appropriate for the mall arcade. Early 2000's were the last throws of mall arcades, at least in North America, so that was probably one ot the last mall arcades in that world. Which is ironicly poignant in a way that may noy have been intended.
Agree 1000%! I think the exact same thing each week! I love this pod and never miss an episode right after watching each show. My only minor gripe is that it’s not filmed. I’ve got a feeling, or hope rather, that this podcast is so successful that they will continue it next season (which I’m positive they will) just with the addition of video to accompany it. It doesn’t even have to be elaborate, literally just throw a camera in the room they are filming it in now! Lol! 😂
One of the things I was so impressed about was that the combination Riley gave Ellie for Baraka’s stab fatality was actually correct! I own an MK 2 arcade cabinet. Back forward down forward low punch.
I don't think Joel is in the mindset of being Ellie's father yet, but for me as a father, if I had to push my daughter away to save herself my tear would be the fear of her being alone in a world like that. It would almost be apologetic. I also wouldn't rush her to do it though which was kind of strange to me because I would want to make sure she knows exactly how to get back to Tommy safely (like Bill trying to sure Frank knew what to do after he is dead)... that tells me somehow he wants her gone as fast as possible despite the possibility that she is not prepared, maybe he doesn't do goodbye well and just wants her to leave or maybe he thought he is dying and doesn't want her to see it.
I would say that there is also a fear of being found since thats how he got hurt in the first place, in his mind he might be thinking "I have to get her out of here as soon as possible because I am dying and they'll probably come after us. Just head North back to jackson now."
The merry-go-round song reveal was one of my favorite moments thus far. I'm a fairly big fan of Depeche Mode, but I'm a bit less familiar with The Cure, so I couldn't quite narrow down the specific tune. Still, I was pretty sure the melody was theirs pretty quickly. I discovered Rockabye Baby! many years back, and was amazed. My go-to gift for baby showers is to give a few of their CDs after letting the couple pick their favorite artists from a list of the available options. I've bought a few of my own too - Rush and The Police - despite not having kids yet. I look forward to the day where I can comfort my child to sleep with xylophone versions of "The Spirit of Radio" and "Message in a Bottle." I'm so glad this will introduce more people to their amazing work. (Fun fact: Rockabye Baby! is produced by Lisa Roth, the sister of Van Halen's David Lee Roth.) Also, the full realization of the mall was phenomenal, and even more impressive given the stories here!
This show has been phenomenal so far! Even still, this was the first episode that I truly loved start to finish even MORE than the game's version of events. This is my favorite episode so far for sure. Can't wait to see this journey to it's bitter end.
Love the instrumental version of The Cure's 'Just Like Heaven' playing during the carousel scene. Obviously symbolic, but also another 80s song utilized.
Hearing Troy expound upon how he hated the word "potential" has made me really appreciate how similar of a childhood he probably had. I got in trouble a lot growing up, like, a not insignificant number of times. I've had so many teachers and principles tell me about how much "potential" I had if I'd stop getting in my own way, and I always despised it because that's not how I saw myself. I didn't think I had any potential at all when I was a teen. I still don't know if I do or not.
I used to play MKII on my Amiga Commodore computer, I had "8" floppy disks That you had to constantly put in and out in order to play, it was the best game of my childhood hands down!!

Facts, she's incredible
When she sees the bite the final “no!” with the shot on her face was gut wrenching. Felt like I was seeing my little sister realize she’s dying
For me this has been the best performance for a lead in a show so far this year. And considering what lies ahead, I can't imagine someone else winning the Emmy.
This is finally the episode that won me over on her completely.
Bella is terrific in this. Love her
Loved that the "80s means trouble" song was Just like heaven by The cure. Such a spot on choice imo.
Just Like Heaven was the perfect needle drop for that scene. Just like everything else, the music choices are also incredible in this show. A brilliant show all around.
Bella Ramsey is incredible I have been absolutely blown away by her performance she has been better than I could have ever hoped as Ellie.
Agreed!! She is KILLING it!
I loved that they used the LEFT BEHIND story for an episode. Much needed. I REALLY enjoyed it! 😎
Only title the episode deserved
sadly we're not getting the whole "present day" mall search Ellie did killing raiders and infected
@@doktor3196 maybe next episode? She's gonna have to meet David, too...
@@doktor3196 because that's gameplay. Alot of what is skipped in these episodes are what would be gameplay as a player. So it's understandable.
53:10 "we give our characters what they want the most and we punish them for it" my jaw dropped cause its so true...these sadistic mfs hshshs
If by now Bella hasn't earn an Emmy, or at least a nomination, I don't know who can.
I'm so so excited to see Troy's performance on the next episode, it looks juicy
My prediction came true that Troy is playing as James 😭
We are so lucky to have Craig. He truly gets it. His input and vision has made this show what it is. The combo of Neil and Craig is unmatched!
10/10 loved Storm Reid as Riley, loved Riley and Ellie’s chemistry, loved the references/music from the game. All around very reminiscent of the DLC 💯
This was such a faithful and beautiful adaptation of Left Behind my God 🥺
Kudos as always to everyone involved. What a massive undertaking this show is and they've done such an incredible job.
Shoutout HBO Max for not running ads while we listen. So used to them interrupting I almost forgot what it’s like without them!
I mean it's HBO. they don't need ads. for them to run ads in a complimentary piece to their biggest show would make it not prestige tv. this is just free marketing and advertising for the show for them
Gotta go for UA-cam premium. It's worth it.
@@London755 UA-cam vanced*
I'm sure he's probably a little more tired of talking about it than Craig since he's been discussing it for 10 years
This episode was everything! Storm and Bella portrayed Ellie and Riley’s story perfectly 😭😭
To have someone just as passionate about something you've created as yourself must be such a feeling. I love Craig and Neils relationship
This show will be remembered for its incredible performances and storytelling for decades.
the casting for this show has been top tier
the choices of directors has been top tier too. the next two episodes are directed by Ali Abbasi who directed a great film last year called Holy Spider. I can't wait to see how his style translates to this story and world!
Episodes 8 and 9 better be 2 hours a piece! I can’t handle having such a short time with these characters left, plus I feel like there’s still a lot of story to tell
Sorry to disappoint, but next episode is scheduled for 51 minutes and the final episode even only has 43 mins.
@@RA-nw9xy well… let’s hope the time is expertly used.
@@yaboytroy357 I think they already proved excellently that they can manage quality over quantity, so they have my full trust to not mess this up
@@RA-nw9xy still there needs to be enough quantity to tell the story well.
I love watching these breakdowns after each ep. It’s like a routine now. Thank you! And can’t wait to see troy in the next ep
Agreed. I come straight to YT after each show. This was a good idea. Perhaps more shows will do it in the future. I hope they continue these for Season 2.
If anything, they adapted the Left Behind story point for point perfectly while implementing their own take and change
I agree, so many easter eggs aswell...
all the import scenes minus the water guns 😁
@@thehoopman88 yeah but i think it wouldn't make sense for them to get soaked in that situation, also Bella said she used a chest binder on most shoots so that could get exposed.
also maybe time limit.
I like how they took the doll store infected from the cut snowed out mall from the game and put them in the Boston mall in the show. They’ve done such a great job making the threats and violence so much more realistic. It does only take one infected.
I got so excited seeing it and then had to explain it to my sister so I thought I might've been wrong. Thanks for the validation! 😃
The execution of this show up to this point is fantastic. I'm not ready for these next two episodes...
they're directed by a really great director, Ali Abbasi. he directed a great film last year called Holy Spider. def check that out if you have time.
Huge huge huge fan of the games, including left behind and you couldn't have made a better episode here! Perfection!
Baraka and Mileena of Mortal Kombat II are lovers that both Ellie and Riley chose to fight as at the arcade. Whether the creators knew it or not, their gameplay did showcase a grim foreshadowing.
That's very cool, I didn't know that as I wasn't a player. Thanks for that insight. Gotta love when filmmakers make choices like that.
Fantastic episode last couple of minutes were vary emotional can wait to see Troy baker next week
This is what last of us is. It is a tale of the consequences of our actions.
This episode was once again perfection. It was happy and sweet but suspenseful throughout. I don't know the game story so I was hoping we wouldn't get the bad ending and Riley was going to be one of those people that Ellie mentioned in episode 6 who had "left her" rather than died.
The cure - just like heaven = one of my favorite moments of the episode. Probably the best in the entire flashback
Bellas performance this episode was absolutely insane, best casting decisions ever.
Loved this. Such good acting from everyone. Storm and Bella's performance was wonderful. Love love love!
They nailed the bite scene. 10/10 for that one.
I've been really enjoying these podcasts and I'm so grateful to all of you for doing them.
Every episode just hits harder and harder😭😭
This show just keeps getting better. I loved the games and I love this adaptation. Can't wait for next week
Wasn’t a fan of Joel and Ellie’s casting at first but now I’m all in, Pedro and Bella are killing it 🫂
0:36 God! Next week Is Troy Baker's debut as James. I Guess he's so excited to see himself as one of the villains of the show.
He's not the only one. The trailer has me so hyped.
Endure & Survive. 👏❤️
Well it’s left to assumption since in episode 4 she mentions she killed before
Right? And I would've liked to see how Ellie got out of the mall. Was it Marlene that got her out? Did Marlene shoot Riley?
I think thats the point?
TLOU is pretty into leaving some things up to personal interpretation instead of leaving it in stone
Well, if you haven't seen it yet, we do get a little more information in the last episode. So there's a little bit more of the story pieced together :)
Another Episode
Another Day to cry
Absolutely loved this acknowledgement to the DLC for the last of us.
Started my first playthrough christmas 2022 both games then come to find out THERES A TV SHOW perfect timing for me IM INSTANTLY IN LOVE
I am going to cry so much in the second season.... I already know. Pedro as Joel will break me.
I think they've said that they're spreading out the first game's story over the first two seasons. So we're likely getting at least 4 planned seasons, if they split up Part 2's story into two seasons as well.
@@grayden4138i think it’ll make more sense if they do split part 2 into 2 seasons as well, considering it’s about twice as long as the first game.
It seems like the first game is nearly over though... I thought season 2 was just game 2
@@grayden4138 they aren’t spreading the first game out over 2 seasons. The first season is the first game.
I’d think they’d spread the 2nd game out into 2 seasons though. A lot more story.
This episode was perfect just like the left behind dlc 🥰
This was an incredible faithful adaptation. I do admit I kind of felt like I wanted a change, the show had done so well at totally subverting expectations but for a show only fan I imagine this was great. My wife kept asking for the 7th episode what is going on who is this what is gonna happen. Usually I’d say wait to not ruin it but I said wait because I wasn’t even sure if what played would happen. They have some such an excellent job at this, they made this thing for a game fan to watch with a new fan and literally I can’t ever imagine this wasn’t one of the main pitches because of how well they execute this idea thus far.
Brilliant episode, my favorite this far. Bella was astonishingly good. So accurate to the original DLC. Cried a river, 10/10.
Which is ironicly poignant in a way that may noy have been intended.
they're all gaming fans so I'm sure they took every consideration to heart, especially that
Loved this episode. Bella and Storm were great together.
Man i wish we could see the video of all three of you sitting together doing the podcast~
Lol! 😂
This series has been so good. Really an amazing job. Can't wait for next week!!
The escalator scene was my favorite scene
Riley was casted perfectly man. They absolutely did the DLC justice here. Was perfectly done.
all 50 of us are enjoying these podcasts
One of the things I was so impressed about was that the combination Riley gave Ellie for Baraka’s stab fatality was actually correct! I own an MK 2 arcade cabinet. Back forward down forward low punch.
Thanks for including pinball in the arcade. I was so happy to see Medieval Madness, Attack from Mars, and Genie. 😭
I would say that there is also a fear of being found since thats how he got hurt in the first place, in his mind he might be thinking
"I have to get her out of here as soon as possible because I am dying and they'll probably come after us. Just head North back to jackson now."
these podcasts have become mandatory post episode for me, love hte breakdowns you guys do
The merry-go-round song reveal was one of my favorite moments thus far. (Fun fact: Rockabye Baby! is produced by Lisa Roth, the sister of Van Halen's David Lee Roth.)
Also, the full realization of the mall was phenomenal, and even more impressive given the stories here!
This show has been phenomenal so far! Even still, this was the first episode that I truly loved start to finish even MORE than the game's version of events. This is my favorite episode so far for sure. Can't wait to see this journey to it's bitter end.
Excellent Episode! Wonderful portrayal of Left Behind!!
Love the instrumental version of The Cure's 'Just Like Heaven' playing during the carousel scene. Obviously symbolic, but also another 80s song utilized.
I knew it was “Just Like Heaven” the minute I heard it. It’s one of mine & my husbands song. This was such a great episode.
You guys keep me crying this has been so great!!
I’m still here guy’s listening to every podcast after the episode. This is a masterpiece of a tv show. Can’t wait for season 2!!!!
Thank you for making the podcast episodes without game related spoilers! I'm a fan of the show, and didn't play the games so I feel welcome here when listening to the discussions you're having and letting us into. It's nice to learn more about the lore and background as well as filming the show through listening to you guys chat! I feel like it's something extra which I get to enjoy after tuning in to the week's episode and discover more or reflect on it and hear the creators' POVs too. It's like a little treat. :) I also love how small Bella is, good to hear it pointed out haha. The mall scenes were gold, love the bit about our failed world and the wondrous parts of it.
This podcast is amazing, the game's are my favorite ever, this show is amazing, the showrunners are amazing, THANK YOU guys for The Last of Us!
Enjoying this so damn much, my favorite game and thank God the show is doing it justice, I'm loving it. I actually played the first game again and I just played Left Behind again and it was so good this was so good. I love waiting for it every week and having this to look forward to after a long week. Thank you Neil and now Craig for this story, you too Troy, you'll always be the OG.
The show is growing on me now, it didn't at the start. I'm so looking forward to episode 8. I felt like grabbing my controller, to start playing the game. 10/10.
You need to!
have you not enjoyed the changes made from game to tv?
I mean…I’d have the same look of fury and desperation in my eyes to save Pedro!!! 😬 Amazing episode…liked it even better than the actual DLC honestly! 🥰
This Epsidoe showed why you guys cast Bella. She knocked it out of the park.
I just wanna say how happy I was to see my all time favorite fighting / arcade game Mortal Kombat 2 in the episode. I love how they actually showed them playing it too.
