There was always something off about this film in particular, Sam Neil’s character was probably the only character here that felt like someone, mostly because we’ve already seen him onscreen. WTF happened to HULK?
6:00 I think it's telling that Spielberg preferred jumping into the director's chair for A.I. mid production to take over for Stanley Kubrick, who died during the film's production. JP3 was destined for failure. Honestly, other than the original 1993 release, no sequel has even come close to being as good.
I thought Lost World was 'ok' - admittedly the best part (besides the dinosaurs) was Roland rather than the actual protagonists but it was enjoyable enough.
I’m in the minority that really likes Lost World. It’s about 70% as good as the first one, and considering Jurassic Park is one of the greatest movies ever made that’s a good effort.
Why? The story is fine, I think they could have done something with that. But the characters were annoying, the action uninspired - nothing to do with the clever T-rex and Veloceraptor scenes we had in the first two movies - and the writing felt flat. I'm honestly curious to know why some enjoyed this movie.
@@AngelusHale honestly? I'm not quite sure whybi like it so much. It's probably because of Sam Neil. Dr Grant and John Hammond are my 2 favorite characters in the franchise, plus it has a talking Raptor Lol

@@kalsolarUK yup exactly, jp2 sucks ass and is fucking stupid in so many more ways than 3. I also can't stand the need for some poc representation as Ian's daughter, it was so forced and cringeworthy that was not needed in a dinosaur movie
I've had many a conversation with my dad about how I was not "grabbed" by this movie. Even at the age of like 9, when I knew nothing about what makes a good movie, I always felt "off" about how this movie flowed. Good to know my instincts were well-founded, even back then. This movie truly was cobbled together and it shows. At least it didn't star a teenage gymnast doing a routine to kick a dinosaur out a window. *That* is how you kill all narrative tension in a script, people.
This film is 93 minutes long. Has a talking raptor. A child collecting T Rex pee. A carnotaurus breaking the 4th wall. Flashlight batteries fitting into a camera. Barney the Dinosaur. Spinosaurus breaking a paddock fence but can't break down a building door. An unfinished script. And is still far superior to Fallen Kingdom
@@opalbinia that is correct for the Spinosaurus, but for the T. rex, velociraptor, those tiny dinosaurs, etc. they where said to be the most realistic because of facial design and structure, plus it had the most realistic muscle movements and builds than any other movie. Just thought I’d point out it has since been proven beyond doubt that the T.Rex was both a Hunter and a Scavenger!!!! All meat eating creatures are both!!! A Lion in the Savannah isn’t going to pass up a Zebra carcass if it finds one.
I remember seeing this on opening day when it was released! I still enjoy it for what it is-- an action movie meant to be enjoyed for a couple hours. Yea, it's definitely my least favorite of the original trilogy by far, but it's still enjoyable.
@Aggressive Filmmaker It’s not because of the T-rex, it’s because of the short runtime, annoying characters, abrupt ending, BAD CGI compared to the first 2, and lack of an antagonist.
Jurassic park wasn't actually based on novels. The first movie script was created more or less at the same time as the book, and the second movie's script was created partially at the same time as the book. The book had to adapt to the movie. The writer was told about some guidelines of the movie and created the book making guesses about what happened. And it shows if you read the second book. He was told "Ian is alive and they go to the B zone, the company will try to hunt dinosaurs and both teams will find each other and get into conflict"... that was pretty much the direction for the novel.
I saw this in theatres, and it is - to date - the last Jurassic Park movie I've seen. The thing I remember most was how a character carrying a satellite phone was eaten by the Spinosaurus. Which turned into a running gag of the phone being heard ringing from within its guts as it chased the group throughout the movie. Then the group finding the ringing phone in a pile of Spinosaurus dung (during a torrential downpour), digging it out, and then using it to call for help.
Yes... i saw it in theatre's too... i was bitterly disappointed and i was young too. I wanted a return to form after lost world. But sadly... it has never happened. But while i rated it so poorly, when the new ones came out, it did an Alien 3 and jumped up a knotch from crap to mediocre. Hahahaha.
Had a Jurassic Movie marathon with my fiancé (the new ones included). With all the flaws of some of the films, I gotta say there is not one I wouldn’t love to rewatch. I’m a very critical person when it comes to movies, but the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies are just too much fun for me to ever truly dislike.
The things that bores me most in the Jurrasic Park franchise are the unrealistic dinosaurs and the overuse of those raptors. They might aswell have called the franchise Raptor Park. This movie takes the cake.
I liked part 3, it’s like a smaller little monster movie... it should have been called “Jurassic Park: some side stuff” thing, like a side thing not as an epic new entry in the series
When i was younger i was obsessed with the jurassic park franchise but i had only seen the first one, I would repeatedly go to the dvd section in the see a dvd case with a new cover supermarket and ask my parents for the Jurassic park movie, only to come home and realise its the same movie, but one Christmas i woke up only to find a Jurassic park box set. I had not one but TWO movies to watch and it was incredible. Not to mention that prior to this i was already was obsessed with the spinosaurus and had no clue it was in a movie.
Jurassic Park III was very entertaining. I hope to see the Spinosaurus again. If it weren't for this movie, Spinosaurus would never be nearly as popular or very known about, especially since the older remains were destroyed by the R.A.F in Munich, Germany in 1944. The only thing left were Stromers sketches, pictures, and journal. Now look at Spinosaurus. It stands as one of the most popular and fan favorite dinosaurs and this all happened in 2 decades, not to add has gone some very unique breakthroughs irl. The T.Rex And Spinosaurus fight was also supposed to be way longer, I believe nearly 2 minutes, not a measly 30 seconds. The Spinosaurus was also supposed to get slaughtered by the pack of raptors, but it didn't.
I saw this movie in theaters. I liked it. My friend and I watched it at Universal Studios (Citywalk) and what I remember most from that night (not counting the movie) was when stepped onto the elevator, the couple stepping out were Damon Wayans and his wife who were mid make-out session when the doors opened 😂
I think this might be my favorite sequel. I know it has stupid parts but unlike the other films that focuses on theme parks or militarizing the dinos this movie focuses on divorced parents trying to save their kid while roping Alan Grant along with them and it just has it's unique charm. I think it could've been a great movie if done right but sadly we're stuck with the end result.
Of course, @@shinndig1293. At least JPIII was entertaining for the most part. Fallen Kingdom was just... dang... I can not think about Fallen Kingdom without thinking about that one dinosaur that had to die because the script to kill it via imminent lava flow at the harbor. I agree with this list Jurassic world made sense, it showed how a successful park with Dinosaurs would look like. While the first movie showed not to play god. Which is ironic since JW had a genetically alterd Dinosaur.
this was a blast in the cinema back in the day, alot better than lost world. ill have to watch it again soon!!! from memory saw this and a Knights tale on the same weekend! good times
The idea of a group of people getting shipwrecked there is great! Finally a Jurassic Park film with a cast that aren't experts or linked to the park. Not only would it finally introduce aquatic dinosaurs properly, it would just be a good fun stand alone film.
People are always coming for this movie with pitchforks, but it's really not that bad of a film. The story is cohesive and there's no confusion as to what is happening on screen or why. I find that most of the movies I watch that have come out in the last few years have been laughably terrible. Modern screenwriting is just so...divisive
Horner's hypothesis that the Trex was a scavenger was so laughable that today he denies he ever took it seriously and tries to play it off as he was joking. I suggest reading his paper on it. He shows no actual scientific evidence, just a bunch of fallacies that supports the idea that maybe we shouldn't give out honorary degrees.
The animatronics used topped the CGI Obssessed Studio. Yet World and Park 3 have their moments, World is a contrast to the first movie. Both showing why bringing back Dinosaurs is not a good idea, or as Allan Put it Genetically created Theme Park Monster. Still They both had good scenes such as the Spinasaurous fight with the T-rex. The First chase of the human characters (That ring tone is part of my childhood) When the Raptors got their eggs back The Dinosaur who took out the Genetically created first T-Rex Raptor(I do not know the name it does swim in water) Mechnical orb ride and training the raptors. The World and 3 are fighting for thrid place. While Fallen Kingdom pissed me off, when they were shaming the viewers. The previous four never had to do that. Or the end of the movie, And malcom's character was/is correct. (Which was not the part which pissed off.)
There's been a lot of hate towards the sequels since THE LOST WORLD. I really don't understand why. I first read the novels in 2008, I was 11 years old and Michael Crichton was still alive. Then I jumped into reading all of his work and I've come to appreciate the movies for what they are. I don't really understand what people want of this films, they always say: I want them to be like the first one. Then.... just watch the first one. Yes, the first JURASSIC PARK has a lot to its advantage, but that doesn't mean the sequels are all bad automatically, they all have their great and bad moments. I've always said since I read the books that they main plot of this stories is: men playing to be God. And all of them cover that topic, and I find it intriguing. Honestly all the characters and situations are just peons in a chess game bigger to them and that FALLEN KINGDOM actually dares to bring back. I believe there's much nostalgia to it and people are often mad that their visions and expectations are not covered in a film, but that doesn't make a film less enjoyable, I LOVE THE WHOLE FRANCHISE! I don't have any favorite film because i can watch them and enjoyed them all at the same level. But then again.... that's only my opinion.
I think they should really added more interactions between the characters of the movie like Eric Kirby and Billy Brennan to flesh out the dynamics between the characters.
JPIII is a steaming pile of crap, but it blows literally EVERY Jurassic World film out of the water. Even the first Jurassic World film was absolutely terrible from nearly every single aspect (story, characters (or lack thereof), dinosaurs, action scenes) I have no idea how people could have actually enjoyed it - it feels like the script was written by a 13 year old and given a multi-million dollar budget. Seriously, the ending fight was so ridiculous and over the top it wasn't even enjoyable. Blue, the "good" raptor gangs up with its fellow raptors to fight big bad Indomitus Rex on behalf of its master Chris Pratt (because for some reason raptors can be tamed by mankind - a feat that erases the philosophical conundrum of the original Jurassic Park from the series), only for Bryce Dallas Howard to up the ante by bringing the T-Rex - which is conveniently nearby - into the fight (while running in high heels mind you), only for the fight to end with the gigantic sea monster Mosasaurus randomly coming out of NOWHERE and killing Indomitus rex. On land. Whoever wrote that scene should have been fired on the spot. And to think: the other 2 sequels were even WORSE than the first one, they make JPIII look like a masterpiece by comparison.
To me Jurassic Park III was one of the better Jurassic park movies! I bought the DVD at Block Buster in San Francisco. And watched the movie that same night, before long I fell asleep and started dreaming that the same Spinosaurus. In the movie was chasing me all over the city. I woke up to go to the bathroom, and when I went back to sleep. The Spinosaurus resumed chasing me in my dream.
This film ended up being 84 minutes long! A JURASSIC PARK MOVIE WAS ONLY 84 MINUTES LONG!! They were only able to scrape out 82 minutes of film with ALL THIS EFFORT AND MONEY AND TROUBLE....THAT kind of tells you a LOT about its problems-EVERY OTHER film in the series ran 2 hours
the real question is wtf happened to JP 1 & 2 that there was enough left over material from the books to cobble together the third film. the answer is 'Greedy Idiots'. Same thing that happened to the second movie.
I think personally getting someone like Steve Buscemi or Stellan Skarsgard to play Cooper would've been cool. Killing a known name really early in the film 'Scream' style would've added an air of tension and helplessness that would've remained the rest of the movie. This film does have a special place in my heart, as I watched it so many times as a kid. Looking back on it now, I do understand the narrative problems but in my opinion it has the best special effects of all of the Jurassic movies, including the Jurassic worlds. They look so damn real in this film, especially the raptors.

Like I said...odd. It made the third movie feel like a course correction in addition to all of the problems that plagued it.
The third movie should have centred around Ellie(with her still with Grant, maybe a kid or two). That would ah e been interesting. Some pointed out that the reason Malcolm did work as the lead is because he was comic relief in the first movie. Kind of like how the Joey friends spin off didn’t work because Joey and Malcolm only work or work best when they have other characters to play off.
with all its flaws, i enjoy "Jurassic Park III"!
Its good background noise.
Thought it was crap... until the newer ones came out... then it jumped up a knotch like alien 3. 🤣
yeah its a fun watch, good in a B movie sort of way.
Suuuuure you do

This was my favourite one as a kid😂
No matter how much I like Chris Pratt...I'll take Jurassic park 3 over his two Jurassic any time

100%
I'll take it over The Lost World, too. Roland Tembo was the only likable character in TLW, and I wish Prick Van Owen had been eaten.
Yep
Jurassic World 1 is actually pretty alright. The second one is beyond awful though. It really sucks and ruins a lot of the potential.
There was always something off about this film in particular, Sam Neil’s character was probably the only character here that felt like someone, mostly because we’ve already seen him onscreen.
WTF happened to HULK?
Still so much better then fallen kingdom 🤣
“They’re alive....like me.” ......WHAT?! 🤪
@@Movypro23 😂😂
Nah, both are bad. I can’t watch III because of how cliche it is and Fallen Kingdom is just stupid, but atleast the latter has Chris Pratt in it.
Fallen kingdom way better, this is THE worst

Pretty insane upload after I was literally just watching this at 3 in the morning last night for the first time in years.
It's a guilty pleasure. I've enjoyed all of the movies.
This was such a great movie, I don't know why every one hate it.
It’s unwatchable.
@@blunew467 I agree this is one of the worst sequels I have ever seen in my life.

Idk.. I actually love this movie. It's the 2nd best one (next to the 1st) imo
Ditto
It was actually a great flick
Absolutely 💯
I had more fun with this entry than Lost World, that spinosaurus/t-rex clash was pretty awesome and I liked the return of Sam Neill.
Jurassic Park 3 should of been set the Costa Rican jungle with Alan Grant searching for the strange lizards mention at the end of Jurassic Park (novel)
Your (Hollywood Executives) were so preoccupied with whether or not they could (make a third JP movie), they didn't stop to think whether they should.
This film angered me as kid back in 2001. Still does. Always tried to ignore watching it again or if I wanted to bash it verbally when each scene comes next.
"Alan."
Great review. But, I don’t know. I still enjoyed it more that The Lost World. The part in the city is so silly.
Exactly my thoughts. Despite the dumb plot line I still have more fun with this than JP2
@@kalsolarUK yup exactly, jp2 sucks ass and is fucking stupid in so many more ways than 3. I also can't stand the need for some poc representation as Ian's daughter, it was so forced and cringeworthy that was not needed in a dinosaur movie
I think that lost world is too long, the major part of the film is to kill side characters than the story itself
@@sirmustardofhousemayonnais9907 Fuck outta here man Lost World is the best in the franchise
"Read like a bad episode of Friends"
So you mean just an episode of Friends?
There were some good friends epsiodes... I remember one where Ross got into voyeurism and was spying on his sister having sex... Classic Ross lol
I'm a Jurassic Park fan. I love them all. I used to not be a huge fan of this one but, over the last few years it's really grown on me.
Great retrospective. This channel is gold.
It's the blowing into the resonating chamber that calls the raptors off at the end for me 🤷♀️🤣
This film is 93 minutes long.
Honestly, JP3 should have had more scenes of Eric surviving alone on the island. That would have been awesome, IMO.
I loved Jurassic Park 3, it a fun watch. Also I heard that the recreations of all the dinosaurs were the most realistic than any other movie.
Actually they are some of the least accurate, especially the Spinosaurus
@@opalbinia that is correct for the Spinosaurus, but for the T. rex, velociraptor, those tiny dinosaurs, etc. they where said to be the most realistic because of facial design and structure, plus it had the most realistic muscle movements and builds than any other movie. There was this one paleontology channel on UA-cam I watch like a month ago but I forgot.
20 years old and still a good movie!
Agree it’s it underrated but still a good movie
No way bruh
@Aggressive Filmmaker It’s not because of the T-rex, it’s because of the short runtime, annoying characters, abrupt ending, BAD CGI compared to the first 2, and lack of an antagonist.
@@SDfan2002 “lack of an antagonist”
Spinosaurus: “Am I a joke to you?”
@@Dylan_-tu7zk That’s just a thing that decides to show up every once in a while. There is no human antagonist
Funny how today Trex is viewed as an apex predator while Spino is an overgrown fishmonger.
I had this film on repeat in my room constantly it is by dar the film i have watched the most.
I love all the movies and this movie had great raptor scenes. That big dinosaur was strange and that fight with rex was too short. I love Alan Grant.

5. JW: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
4. JP 3 (2001)
3. The Lost World: JP (1997)
2. Jurassic World (2015)
1. Jurassic Park (1993)
This is what happens when you make a movie with a concept and not a script. And pissing off the fans.
Fallen Kingdom had a complete script, and that pissed me off more than this ever did.
Of course, @@shinndig1293. At least JPIII was entertaining for the most part. Fallen Kingdom was just... dang... I can not think about Fallen Kingdom without thinking about that one dinosaur that had to die because the script to kill it via imminent lava flow at the harbor. There is not much I like about JP3. The Dinosaurs are just monsters (something the Jurassic World movies also are guilty of).
I get so excited every-time I see your channel has a new video!! Love this channel !!❤️❤️
Yay! Thank you!
"Charlie's Angles Writer John August" Out of all of the movies you mention lol.
A guy that's named after a poem character already has really serious credibility problems.
I almost cried as a kid. I couldn't believe how bad it was. The second one wasn't much better.
Say all you what about this one. But it's far better than Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom. I loved that it used practical effects.
Amen 👍
The animatronics used topped the CGI Obssessed Studio.
Yet World and Park 3 have their moments, World is a contrast to the first movie.
Both showing why bringing back Dinosaurs is not a good idea, or as Allan Put it
Genetically created Theme Park Monster.
Still They both had good scenes such as the Spinasaurous fight with the T-rex.
The First chase of the human characters (That ring tone is part of my childhood)
When the Raptors got their eggs back
The Dinosaur who took out the Genetically created first T-Rex Raptor(I do not know the name it does swim in water)
Mechnical orb ride and training the raptors. The World and 3 are fighting for thrid place. While Fallen Kingdom pissed me off, when they were shaming the viewers. The previous four never had to do that. Or the end of the movie, And malcom's character was/is correct. (Which was not the part which pissed off.)
It's better than Fallen Kingdom but not the first JW.
@@shinndig1293 i dislike both of the new ones the original 3 are far superior
hearing that story about the animatronics just makes me love Spino more, thing was a badass in universe and out!
I seem to also remember when this same out that scientists said that raptors had feathers.
Despite it's flaws (and there are many) this movie is still better than the joke that was Lost World.
They did one thing right. They had Sam Neil. There was also no double thumbs up at the end from a t-rex in the 3rd movie at least.
Every Jurassic movie is a classic. Some are just not as good as the others. But like I said.
You know it's a troubled production when the finished product clocks in at a mere 80 something minutes!!
One of the few movies I feel asleep to at the theaters. The other was Oceans 12 and benjamin button.
...Damn. Respect to the actors for doing their own stunts.
