Loved this film as a youngster. Really, really enjoyed Van Damme’s early films like Bloodsport, Cyborg, Kickboxer, Universal Soldier, Hard Target, A.W.O.L, Time Cop. Good old 80s/90s cheesy action. Miss those days.
Arnold visiting the set wasn't nearly as random as you might think. He has been friends for decades with Ralf Moeller, who played GR76, and can be seen in the stills you used. Also, he has known Van Damme since at least the initial days of filming of Predator, where Van Damme was originally cast to wear the creature suit. Also, both Arnold and Ralf won Mr. Universe titles, so their body building pasts, plus coming from neighboring countries, probably helped bring them together.
I mean…..i luv the guy, but most of his movies are the same concept. Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Lionheart, The Quest, Death warrant; all about a fighter in some sort of competition

Good w3rk Minty. I had the pleasure of working background on Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning. Both Dolph & Jean-Claude seemed to be in the best shape of their lives. Also starred Scott Atkins and Andrei Arlovski who both were Mixed Martial Arts competitors. Jean-Claude son Kris also had a role, as while we were waiting to shoot a scene, few extras were speculating who this person was, when Jean-Claude showed up and made small talk with a group of us and his son. and just like you mentioned about the not knowing how many sequels had been made, i had no clue and it seems that majority of the general public doesn't either and for most part some say if it doesn't contain Dolph & Jean-claude in it, most people won't realize it's part of franchise. Keep Up the good work.

I used to pronounce it as CORALCO when I was a kid. I would somehow switch the A and the O even though I did see it properly as CAROLCO. I never questioned it though.

This was filmed partially in my home town of Kingman, AZ. I remember getting a behinds the scenes tour while they were filming at the airport. My dad was across the street when they blew up the gas station and he provided some of the actor's trailers, as he owned a local RV dealership at the time. This is the first time I've heard that our golf course was used to film the jungle scenes in 'Vietnam', though...interesting. One of my favorites. Funny...another movie mentioned in this video, A League Of Their Own, was filmed in the town I was born in, Evansville, IN lol
Side note: At Universal Studios in Florida, there was a store in the 90’s that sold movie costumes from actual films. Most of them were boring, but I came upon a uniform in plastic. It was Dolph Lundgren’s combat fatigues from Universal Soldier! They wanted $400 for it but I opted not to. Dolph was one of my favorite action stars from the 90’s, but I honestly didn’t know what I would do with it. I guess I could’ve framed it, but I’m not that into memorabilia.
I saw this movie at the cinemas as a kid in year 8. I don’t remember not seeing van damme not turning on the harvester, but I guess I was sort of surprised seeing the scene when I watched the movie at a later date. I used to have that poster on my wall as a kid, got it from my local video store when they no longer needed it:) good memories.

Here's something you didn't know about the comic books. NOW had two versions of the issues produced, one with all the violence and swearing in the movie retained sent to directly to comic book shops, and one sanitized sent to places like grocery stores (remember when they had comic books?). The two sets of covers actually determined which one you got, the draw covers were for the UNRATED versions, and the photo still covers were for the sanitized versions.
Minty has "Caroloco's" in his own segment title, followed by the official Carolco logo in his presentation. Maybe it's an inside joke that we aren't aware of.

I suppose maybe you if you interpret it in some unconventional manner, but I always assumed that the way they were created had more to do with biology. They're regularly injected with drugs and there's really no hint of them having any sort of mechanical components.

The building which they blew up in the high desert was in Cool Springs AZ and a few years after this movie, a man from Chicago bought the 'remains' and rebuilt it to what it originally looked like. Yeah I always wondered about that too. The only thing i can think of is the ammount of cybernetic work that was used to revive them must have been left in and anything with computers tends to get hot when working constantly. I'm guessing they didn't put alot of thought into it and just wanted to come up with some kind of weakness for the Unisols
Universal Soldier still holds up as a good sci fi movie but an awesome action movie. All these years later I still want that body temp regulating watch.
Still one of the bset Van Damme movies in my opinion, though I still remember my parents letting me watch it when I was way too young for any of the ratings back when it came out on VHS when I was like 6. Still holds up superbly to this day and blows the sequels out of the water easily.

Christopher Franke, who composed the music for Universal Soldier, was part of the German group Tangerine Dream who composed the music for the classic but short-lived 1980's US action series Street Hawk starring Rex Smith.
His early movies his acting was really bad and robotic, and generally I think the movies didn't give him much to work with. This movie gave him more to work with switching between the robotic Unisol and his character's real personality plus maybe he took some acting lessons.
I have always wanted to see a prequel to this movie. A prequel that deals with the relationship of Luke Devereaux and Sergeant Andrew Scott together during the Vietnam war. See more friendship or brother relationship that they grow during the Vietnam war. It would make the original universal Soldier more impactful.
I remember seeing a ad for Cut throat island on a Terminator vhs boxset, they were really trying to milk it with all the merchandise that was in that ad
Loved this movie when I was 12, and the end fight still pumps me up to this day. I'll watch it from time to time before hitting the gym. When Van Damme injects the syrum and turns the tables on him was epic. Grabbing him by the vest, and repeatedly punching him in the face.
There was a different ending, more interesting story wise but test screenings had young folks asking for more fighting. So the interesting ending might be on some dvd's or youtube?

they werent cyborgs they were reanimated using some sort of serum and they had to be kept cold when not working.
They did have SOME implants, but yes, they were not cyborgs. Re-animated dead conscript soldiers
I have a JCVD day where I just watch his great action movies from the 80's and 90's and this is one of them. Love this movie.

No wonder Cutthroat Island was the last Carolco film. That film bombed as hard as any ever.
I thought it was a little weird that the reanimated soldiers kept running hot and needed to be cooled off.
Yeah I always wondered about that too. The only thing i can think of is the ammount of cybernetic work that was used to revive them must have been left in and anything with computers tends to get hot when working constantly. I'm guessing they didn't put alot of thought into it and just wanted to come up with some kind of weakness for the Unisols

Universal Soldier still holds up as a good sci fi movie but an awesome action movie. All these years later I still want that body temp regulating watch.

Still one of the bset Van Damme movies in my opinion, though I still remember my parents letting me watch it when I was way too young for any of the ratings back when it came out on VHS when I was like 6. Still holds up superbly to this day and blows the sequels out of the water easily.

Christopher Franke, who composed the music for Universal Soldier, was part of the German group Tangerine Dream who composed the music for the classic but short-lived 1980's US action series Street Hawk starring Rex Smith.
Dolph Lundgren gets such a bad wrap for all of his earlier movies. This one kinda put him back on track a little.
He played an awesome sociopath!!!!!!!!!!!!
His early movies his acting was really bad and robotic, and generally I think the movies didn't give him much to work with. This movie gave him more to work with switching between the robotic Unisol and his character's real personality plus maybe he took some acting lessons.

See more friendship or brother relationship that they grow during the Vietnam war. It would make the original universal Soldier more impactful.

Loved this movie when I was 12, and the end fight still pumps me up to this day. I'll watch it from time to time before hitting the gym. When Van Damme injects the syrum and turns the tables on him was epic.
Grabbing him by the vest, and repeatedly punching him in the face.
There was a different ending, more interesting story wise but test screenings had young folks asking for more fighting. So the interesting ending might be on some dvd's or youtube?
