A major thing a lot of people don't realize is that the Blade of the comics was almost a completely different character from the one in the film. He wasn't a half-human, half-vampire hybrid. He was a human being who had immunity to vampirism owing to his prostitute mother being killed by Deacon Frost as she gave birth to him. He couldn't be turned into a vampire and he couldn't be hypnotized by their gaze, but he didn't have any special powers. He got by on skills, smarts, ruthlessness and to some extent, hatred. He also had a totally different personality--in the vein of many Marvel heroes, he spoke in very informal manner, referring to Dracula, for example, as "Big Daddy Fangs."

Also Spawn was not considered a failure, It was the #1 film for several weeks the summer of 97.
I really liked Blade, I thought it was well done. I don't even care or even knew at the time it was a comic book character. Good job Minty....since you are going into the late '90's like 1998, do one on "The Mask of Zorro ".
'Mask of Zorro' WOULD be a fine choice!
A mention of Dark City! Awesome movie! You should do one on that, Minty.
As much as I like LL Cool J Wesley was & is Blade I'll bet he's proud that he got to play such a badass character plus Stephen Dorff was perfect as Deacon Frost.
One of the best comic book movies and its cool on its own.
Amazing cinematography, style, music, Snipes, Dorff.
I liked the Blade movies, and watch them on occasion especially around Halloween. I also liked Spawn probably more than most people.
Blade is a good example of a great movie. You have background, good sets, incredible fight scenes, interesting characters and a simple plot.
7:38, without BLADE, we wouldn't have X-Men.
Strewth!
Sooo True in Sooo
Many Different Ways!
As far as 90s comic flicks go, the Crow is probably my favorite.
Can't rain all the time.
Good for you. Blade kicked ass and the Crow wouldn't have had a a chance with him.
After seeing this movie, I bought a replica of "The Sword of the Daywalker"
@Minty The one thing that was not included in the Top 10 was the AWESOME soundtrack for this movie. I heard the Main theme by New Order booming in college dorms all the time!
This is the movie that changed me from a casual movie goer to a movie lover
One of the few films I saw in the cinemas more than once and have it on multiple formats. The refit made for a much better paced and tighter film. Score was amazing and just as brutal as the action scenes. Agree with you whole heartedly mate. :-)
Hopefully, we can finally see Blade and Morbius share the silver screen together.
Actaually, When The
Trailer 1st Came Out,
I Thought #DeconFrost
WAS Michael #Morbius,
As It Wasn't Long After
FOX Animated Series &
They Looked Similar.
Hell, I Didn't Know That
#Blackheart & #Blackout
Were Those #Ghouls in
#GhostRider Til I Saw It,
Or That Fonda Was #Mephisto?!
The sword fight scene is epic and made a great addition to the film. What a great battle between the two lead characters. Another good scene, is when they had Blade’s mother be seen after her attack by a vampire and of her seeing her son in her final moments of life.
Bringing Whistler back in number 2 sort of ruined the most emotive part of this film.
I disagree. I feel that it didn't take anything away from that scene in 1st movie while also giving own emotional momement for 2nd movie when he is brought back.
@@Mecha82 was a cheap gimmick. Every franchise does it but it certainly spoils the impact of the first film... For me
Whistler is the worst thing about Blade
@@budthechud9795 to quote Bane " for you".
Loved Snipes' cameo on What We Do In The Shadows!
Wasn’t Kris Kristoferson Whistler? Interesting that The Beast Master was almost Whistler.
A vampire character further developed by a person with the surname Wolfman, you couldn't make this up.
One of my favorite badass vampire hunters ever!
This movie is pretty good in my opinion. I would never say it was perfect but it has a lot of cool moments and characters and has a very unique style and story for a late 90s action movie! Great times! Good work on this video! I respect that you occasionally make mistakes in your recaps. Terrific video though! I love reviewing your old videos!
Whistler was Kris Kristofferson.
Yeah, I don't know how Minty missed that one.
Yeah that's not Patrick McGoohan
Kai Leske-Heed haha I said the same thing when minty mentioned that.
Everyone talking about Kris Kristtofferson, but no one mentions _Blade Unleased_ at 11:40.
@@harbl99 Well, no one can lease Blade anymore
Minty is the man. This is the kinda guys I just want hang out with. Keep up the good work Brother.
This film was me-catnip when it came out as it encompassed both raves AND vampires. Snipes has gotten a raw deal when it came to the final film. He STILL gets undeserved shit to this day about it, particularly on youtube.
Thank You Minty for Pointing Out what Most Of US true Blade Fans knew at #4 that without BLADE in 98 their wouldn’t ever BE an MCU on Film Period! #11 Best Opening Scene of an Action Movie Ever!
No way, I just got through watching Blade and Blade II today! WITCHCRAFT!
THANK YOU for crediting BLADE for starting the Marvel Movie craze!
When this film came out I thought Wesley Snipes was the sexiest thing on two legs LOL!
even now when I watch these movies.
I've always thought he was hot 😊
I saw this pop up in my recommendations and I SERIOUSLY thought Google Chrome and the UA-cam algorithm somehow interfaced with my old DVD player and KNEW that I watched both Blade and BladeII yesterday!
My iPhone listens to everything I say. My husband and I tested it. Ads, UA-cam, Google, Amazon, Facebook- it’s all connected.
@@ambergerhelper7852 Exactly why I don't trust Elexa and other AI that can spend my credit card for me and laugh manically at me in the middle of the night.
It was most unfortunate that the Traci Lords vampire character got eliminated so early in the movie, I would have liked to have seen more of her.
One of your best posts. Loved the Blade movies.
The originator of the success of MCU
The music in this film is incredible. Watched this SO many times on video. Kicks ass to this day.

@@KapiteinKrentebol : 👍👍‼️ Good one 😆.
Still a great classic flick to this day.
Forget Black Panther, this movie is the real deal. Just ask Marvel... enough said.
I wouldn't say 'forget BP' but Blade great. Black Panther was awesome. #RIPChadwickBoseman
That Disc Jockey in the opening Club Blood scene was awesome too---those headlights he was wearing on his head was bad ass. It gave that scene a nice touch. If I ever do a DJ job (not hardly though), I'm wearing headlights, lol. 😁
Please do a "10 things" about
Boys'N the hood , Menace to Society, Friday or a 90s 'hood' film.
definitely friday
Don’t be a menace to south central while drinking your juice in the hood is THE definitive “hood film”
I love this franchise. Thank you for the video!!! I don't like the idea of Wesley being replaced because he will always be my Blade! But so much time has passed and Wesley was known for being really difficult to work with. So bring it on Marvel. Let's see what Ali can do!

Blade 2 is awesome!
I still have the action figure of Blade from Toy Biz. Great film. Great video. 👍😉
One of my favorite action-horror movies. It's a shame that the series ended on an anti-climactic note with the tv series' cancellation and Wesley Snipes' drama on Blade Trinity.

This was a great episode! I hope you’ll do the other Blade movies too, Minty!
The greatest action movie before The Matrix showed us the truth to everything.
Nice video!! You're very funny and informative about these movies and shows and stuff without being boring. Good job!! I discovered your channel by chance and I started watching your videos every day. Did you know there was a Blade tv series? I picked it up not too long ago on dvd from Goodwill. Five bucks. Haven't gotten it watched yet but I like a lot of stuff and I really like the Blade movies so I'll probably like the series too. Also have you done a video about the dead zone movie? That would be cool! And do you do videos about tv series as well? Just curious. Sorry for the very long comment! Please keep the videos coming! You're awesome!! See ya!! 😀😀
Last time I was this early, Wesley Snipes paid his taxes.
Like trump lol
You win!
That made him a true bad-ass!!!
Ouch😂
congrats, that comment got a snort out of me lololol
Thanks for giving this movie the respect it deserves. Subscribed!
I love the Blade Movies I have all three on DVD they are just awesome. I went to the theater to see the first one in 98 and I just love it. I always like Wesley Snipes’s Movies but the Blade Movies are my favorite ones.
Third one surely not awesome. 1 and 2 are great though
Spawn was a very underrated movie
Kris Kristofferson
was the Whistler, not Patrick McGoohan :)
Yeah... that’s what I’m saying
Whistler
I wonder if hes actually even seen the movie. probably will now.
Steven Dorff made comic movie villains cool again. He was probably the best Blade movie villain, iconic.
The only person that can portray Blade on screen is Wesley Snipes. I'm not sure who is portraying Wesley out here though.
Sticky Fingaz a.k.a. Kurt Jones did the TV portrayal
I heard rumors that mcu's blade will star john boyega, best known as finn from star wars 7-9
@@VictorHernandez-nj2lo Mahershala Ali is MCU Blade. He was cast like a year ago. John Boyega was rumoured back in 2018
My friends and I watched this at a local cinema, in a nearly-empty theater, because it was near the end of the run and a matinee. When it got near the end, when Blade was being bled in that large slab-like contraption, which then opened, and he fell out, I couldn't help myself. As soon as Karen picked him up, I rasped at my friends: "Just relax for a moment. You're free of the carbonite. Your eyeseight will return in time." Got a good laugh out of them.
You forgot about #1, believe it or not, most people didn’t know the Blade movie is based on a comic book.
most Americans not most people the rest of the world was well versed in the comics

I watched the film just a few weeks ago and it still kicks arse. The first *proper* Marvel film. 👍👍
4:39, love DARK CITY.
Thanks for these great videos, Minty. Loving it all the way in UK 🇬🇧
Jet Li as Deacon Frost vs Wesley Snipes' Blade. Now that I want to see.
That would of been a awesome fight at the end
Markey Mark as the villain lmao
Great video minty keep up the good work and great commentary as always.
11:49, I saw the movie on DVD for the first time a year after it's release and I was shocked and amazed on how fun the movie was. This is not a kids film! Lol! Anyway thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😉
