I had a cattleya that had no good roots and I thought for sure it was going to die. I learned that soaking it in black tea would save it and it worked! 6 months later I have 2 new growths.
Thanks so much for your immediate response. I contacted the seller, and he stated that the pseudobulb with the affected leaves was most likely suffering from frostbite. He stated to remove the pseudobulb and treat the incision with cinnamon. I did. I think the Cattleya will be fine. Best wishes.
Hey! A few months ago I bought 3 bag baby cattleyas from Lowes and they did the same thing like in this vlog. I thought they were dying, leaves turned dark, some fell off, so I threw them away. I thought they could not live without their leaves. A week too late. But, now I know how to handle the situation if it occurs again. Thanks so much for the info.
Hi Danni, Thak you for your tutorial on various aspects of Orchid plants. I've purchased one large vanda with bloom. The plant was in much stress in transportation. After a few days I observe that the roots are very soft, some are broken and rotting at the middle portion. May I expect your advice.
Hi Orchid Girl. Love your channel. New to this one but since I now have a cattleya, was interested in making sure I did things right by it. How did the Dragon's blood work? Just curious. And could you also send me a picture of the current stage of this orchid? I know it's been four years, but PLEASE???
Hi Orchid girl. I had a cattleya with the same problem as yours I did all your recommendations. But I have a very important question. When I have to water the orchid after the repotting? The substrato is wet. already. My poor plant was in really bad shape. I hope for the best. Thank you very much for your amazing videos. Zema. Greetings from Southern Cali. :)
Congratulations on using the Dragons Blood. You've no need to worry about using this sap of the croton lechleri tree it will do all that you wish it to do. Good video really enjoyed it. Ed.
Hi Ed, thanks for the inspiration :D as it turns out though... It actually damaged too much of the small psb.. and I almost lost it :( it didn't work that well for me :( sorry ua-cam.com/video/ivpXkzWcs70/v-deo.html
Just watched the video and I am amazed that it didn't work for you. I've never experienced a failure with this product. The disease of the plant must have been a very aggressive one. It will definitely stop all kinds of rot in its tracks. Thanks for the reply and take care. Ed.
I have a cattleya that I saved after shipping and it is growing roots and leaves up on top of the rhizome while still having roots on the bottom as well. How do I repot her and keep her growing healthy?
Hello! Under the advice of repotme I repotted my phalanophisis orchids in two sizes bigger pots than what you recommended. Are they going to be okay? Or should I buy another pot and start over?
Undiluted 3% peroxide correct? My first cattleya looks great but has those dead brown sheaths around the bulbs. I want to clean her and change medium she was wrapped and what she was in was quite moist also. Great channel!
I have had cattleya for about 2 year. It blew over from a storm and I found something in the potting mix and attached to the roots its green and looks like little tiny pearls or eggs . They brushed off easily once it was dry. The roots a small and short. What do I do ?
I know you kept it for educational purposes but wow that is so unacceptable. Nurseries should know "transport 101" DRY DRY DRY. I hope you give them a piece of your mind, again. That should never happen again to anyone. I bet though it will produce beautiful flowers just to thank you😊.
Hi! What should I do if I have a miltoniopsis with one old small bulb, one large bulb which has a dark and wet patch on the bottom and a new growth? I am afraid if I intervene on the rotting bulb I will damage the whole plant and compromise the new growth!
I need your help. I just received a Cattleya Pot. Netrasiri Starbright with all healthy green leaves and pseudobulbs, except one purple one. Is the purple one suffering for frostbite or an infection? Should I remove it? This one purple pseudobulb with its purple leaves looks healthy, except for the color--the color is not black, but purely purple.
MissOrchidGirl I moved one of my phals to leca and do need to water more often but I personally like the set up so far. If the watering becomes too much, would it be ok to put it in a diy self watering pot like you did here? I am in a cold climate with a toasty apartment but do have a humidifier running. Thanks and good luck to all!
Can u do a video about effective microorganuzams like EM1 if u know what it is and how we can use them with orchids i do make my own microorganizams but i dont know if that can work with orchids because they are so much different from other plants thank u ... I just started to grow orchids tho ;)
Hi, you'll have to elaborate on that or link me to some scientific literature on it :) in the meantime ua-cam.com/video/vdwzeWoD7qk/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/4MG-u2oW-hM/v-deo.html
Hi, because leca is a perfectly good medium too which does not degrade. This being an older video though, you'll not see it in my new videos because it dries too fast in my sub tropical climate.
Hi Danny/Dani! I recently purchased my first Cattleya last weekend. The seller mentioned they like to dry out. How does the self watering work with the Leca for this plant? I really would love to do a self watering container, but I might not have a warm enough climate for it to be productive.
Rosemarie Farrugia Doublet if you buy 3% hydrogen peroxide then no it’s not diluted. If you buy 6% then yes. It would need to be half water and half of the 6% peroxide.
Hello Danny, i live in eastern part of india where winters are mild..last summer i had divided my cateleya..they usually flower in November...but many of the divided orchids are now dead...and several have yellow leaves...they are all outside in balcony..i have grown them there for several years without any problem..dont know whats happening...please advise
Hi, it's hard to tell without too many details, but maybe the dividing process was not done properly, or the ryzome got infected. These are just guesses though :(
Sellers vary depending on territory, I could send you as link to a seller that does not deliver to you, or that charges too much for transport. Visit the stores in your area and a search will show up all results available in your area :)

Where can we get dragon's blood from?
Do you ever use systemic fungicide? If not, why? Thanks for taking the time to post these tutorials.

I have a cattleya that I saved after shipping and it is growing roots and leaves up on top of the rhizome while still having roots on the bottom as well. How do I repot her and keep her growing healthy?

Hi Danny please tell me what is this potting mix? Can you please help me with a link to purchase
Dragon's blood sounds like botanical witch craft and now now i'm in the mood for kiki's delivery
do you use the garlic and rice method? Is it okay to use?
Hi, no I don’t, I use orchid intended fertilisers :)
Hello again....i grow them only on stone chips....as bark is difficult to get here
My Cattleya is losing green leaves. The bottom of the leaves have become blackish. Roots are also not good. Please help
Hi Dan,
Just subscribed to your video and a new Cattleya enthusiast how do I know if the rhizome is dead and how far to cut the rhizome?
Hi! What should I do if I have a miltoniopsis with one old small bulb, one large bulb which has a dark and wet patch on the bottom and a new growth? I am afraid if I intervene on the rotting bulb I will damage the whole plant and compromise the new growth!
so if the bulb turns brown , is the infection coming from the roots?
I need your help. I just received a Cattleya Pot. Netrasiri Starbright with all healthy green leaves and pseudobulbs, except one purple one. Is the purple one suffering for frostbite or an infection? Hi, no worries, probably just anthocyanin ☺️ if nothing spreads, all is ok!
Do you have any videos on the bat flower?
would phals be okay in only leca? thanks for you time. I do have minis and regular size phals :)
Hi, anything can work in leca if it suits you and your environment :)
MissOrchidGirl I moved one of my phals to leca and do need to water more often but I personally like the set up so far. Hi Danny, can you make a video about Stanhopeas again because I recently got one and I don’t want to set it back much?

Why Leca and not a mix of bark and sphagnum moss?
Hi, because leca is a perfectly good medium too which does not degrade. This being an older video though, you'll not see it in my new videos because it dries too fast in my sub tropical climate.
Great educational video. Do you dilute the 3% hydrogen peroxide? I am a beginner from Jamaica.
Hi, no I don't, I talked about it in the video.

Where do you get dragons blood?
Hi, I received mine, but try Amazon or Ebay :)
Ok thank you. I really love your channel.
I was hoping you would send a link?
Sellers vary depending on territory, I could send you as link to a seller that does not deliver to you, or that charges too much for transport. Visit the stores in your area and a search will show up all results available in your area :)
Where is the watering video for beginners?
Hi, it will be up around the 15th of February :)
Quite the surgical operation...too bad it’s on a 'brand new' plant.
I would ask for refund.
Ed's orchids uses Dragons Blood, maybe you could send him an email
