I saw ola and boom before I knew it I was watching this vidoe
My lesson from this: you get good at things by practicing them (obviously) and not everyone is fantastic at everything. Pete plays incredible things that make me think I'll never get that good at guitar. Watching him and Lee struggle at something so basic that's in a different style makes you realize that everyone's better at something and sometimes things can seem like innate talent because you don't see the hours and days of practice.

I could not have said it more perfectly than you did. So awesome indeed to see this collab and to see players learning something totally out of their comfort zone. Now of course we need to see the reverse - Pete and Lee helping Ola with some straight ahead blues - man, I'd LOVE to hear Ola trying some of those Danish Sexy Chords Pete changes. :D

Love seeing an already talented guitar player using metal to expand their toolbox even if they aren't particularly interested in metal as a genre.
I love how serious Pete and Lee took this. I feel respected! And when Pete said "are you playing an E and an F there?" I smiled. He unlocked the metal notes.

Same. I've been playing metal for 15 years and this kind of thing or tremolo picking riffs come naturally to me like it's nothing, but then playing jazz or blues or whatever is way out of my skill set. So it's always weird to me to see people like Pete -- who is crazy good at all this stuff I'm bad -- struggle with things like this, which are like nothing to me lol.
I agree, i practiced palm muting so much when I started playing back when I turned 13 and got my 1st guitar (1983) all i did was chug (I called it crunch back then) and chug until it became second nature. I then had a hard time understanding why it wasn't that way for everyone. But most of them all wondered why I could not easy-campfire-style strum open chords, because to me muting the strings is hurting me for open chord easy strums lol I broke my playing, but... i'm good with it..
Patrick Rooney we called it crunching when me and my brother were kids (mid eighties)

I never realized chugging could be an issue for some players. It came so natural for me. I find it fascinating which techniques come naturally to one person and not to others. I for the longest time had issues with stegatto and a kid who was playing for just 2 years had it down, intuitively. Studying that kid I realized the alteration of starting with an up or a down stroke depending on the number of notes per string. So that you end with a down stroke going down the strings, or an upstroke going up the strings.
And to get that down without thinking took me 5 months!
And when I saw Brady’s pick slanting tutorials it was like ooooooooh!!!!
It's one of them. Soloing, Noodling and bending, up down picking, traversing the fret board and scales was so natural for me (Obviously I took to blues solos quite easily). But making Chord shapes was a long term grind. especially changing between shapes. Where as most people I knew could just strum away at chords easy enough but when it came to soloing and stylistic things they struggled. URGH up picking chords just gives me night mares still. Which made my overall journey quite frustrating as I could never really get to the point where I could play a full song. So I'd just default to some fun Bluesy stuff. Doesn't matter who you are. Theres going to be something that you need to grind on a guitar.
Dude, I've been playing for 20 years and I've just come to realize recently how easy I have it chugging away. I was playing Metallica and Megadeth at high school and I just have it nailed, I'm a much better rhythm player than lead player for sure, but to see Pete struggling is crazy for me.
@@diegoleiva7242 at 17 years here, have been chugging out thrashy metal since 16 and yeah same. Pete is someone who I look at and think "wow, that dude can play way better than me" and then see him struggling with a thing that was something that I picked up super fast and find second nature is wild.
I was very very fortunate I had 2 schooled metal guitar teachers to show me the way .........really good times🤘
And it was on this day that Andertons realized they needed to start having Ola do their heavy metal guitar reviews... 😆

Ryan Howard To be fair that’s not anything like a tone set up for blues!! Pete has obviously tried to get a different (high gain) tone than usual but I agree that he has failed (the Captain has failed also, but to a lesser degree).

I learned to CHUG before I learned my 1st Major Chord back in 1981 or 1982 before it was even called Chug just came Natural !! LOL Ola is definitely the right Teacher for them !!

Wow, I’ve never been more proud of my right hand than I am right now (last night doesn’t count). I can’t sweep, I don’t know what scale I’m using most of the time but I can chug some palm muted down stoked thrash licks at lightning speed. It’s the only card I have to play.
This is great, it shows how you can master some very specific thing on your instrument to such level and make it look easy... then you try to teach it to someone who has never dipped into that and that displays how difficult it really is :)
appreciate even "simple sounding" stuff since the skill required to do that well can be huge...

Man I really really hope you guys do practice and do a follow up for this. As someone who has played metal my whole guitar-playing life, I find it super interesting and entertaining to see you guys try something like this. Once you get it, it's just so satisfying to chug away all the time! It sounds good, it feels good. You'll just do it out of habit once you get it down. Lee's tone was great, but it sounded like Pete needed a bit more gain and it made his chugs sound a little thin.
Definitely need a modern high gain tone instead of the overdriven clean.
Ola has the TONE. Pete and Lee need some help there. It's like watching Mick and Dan from That Pedal Show trying to chug.

I disagree. Ola and any good metal player could make both of those amps shake from palm muting even with those settings. They just have bad technique for this style.
I thought pete's tone was thicker and ola's thin in comparison (even though it was EQd better perhaps)
