Thank you for this. I just purchased a 2014 Jeep Compass Sport last week. This morning it made that same noise you demonstrated. I was freaked out to say the least. After seeing your video and how easy the repair will be, I'm relieved.
Thank you for this video. It removed the clicking noise from my friend’s 2016 Jeep Compass. The suggestion of using that screwdriver was what helped me do a successful replacement. Have a good one!
That nose came on sporadically for me. when I finally decide to look it up, and I find your video I turn my car on and boom, it's therer in full force! Your video is a god-sent
Hi Scott. I had the same issue with a 2012 Patriot. Your video was so helpfull that took me no more than 15 minutes to change the actuator. Thank you so much. Greetings from Argentina
I just did this job and this video was helpful. I started with the smaller ph1 bit, but it started to strip. I changed to the ph 2 and got a better hold. Used a small harbor freight right-angle small ratchet driver. I also took a 6" mirror on a stand, removed it from the base, and hung it up from a cable in the corner with a zip tie. That and a bright light from below gave me a decent view. Frustrating job, and not easy on the back, but I got it done in about 2 hours with the glove box removal and putting it all back together. I think having the mirror and being able to access from top and bottom was what made it possible for me.
Glad you were able to get it done. I sometimes felt like a contortionist trying to get my little larger hands in where there wasn't much room. It isn't a difficult fix if there was more room but given the tight spaces it can take awhile.
This is one of those things that can drive you crazy once it starts. This is caused mostly from them using cheap plastic instead of putting a few more pennies into the materials. Hope it helps you fix your jeep.
OK. Found out what was causing the Clicking noise. The Air Conditioning filter was not re-installed properly back into the tray inside the glove box. Whenever I take my car to get an oil change, or an inspection, they always try to upsell you on stuff. That Air conditioning filter is one of them. They just put it back in incorrectly causing a jam that causes it to catch internally making a clicking noise. UGH. Glad I watched this video, and almost bought a new actuator, but that was not the issue. Just going to buy a new filter online, instead of the 4X markup they do at those service stations. Also changing my own oil again from here on out.
So I opened the glove compartment and found a number of things not quite right and broken. This was on the list. The screws were so stubborn being ratcheted out, and hard to get to/see, but this made life easier for the installation for me! Thank you very much!!
Been hearing this since I got my 2010 jeep patriot and finally I said enough and searched to see what it was and found this video. Going to go tomorrow and get one because I cam inlock mine and as soon as I open the door that's when I hear it. It didn't start until I got the jeep home and turned the heat in to make sure it worked and sure enough there was the noise
Its amazing this video thanks so so much I'm a lady I own this 2014 jeep compass,I was concerned about this noise, after seeing this video it great help me understanding this clicking noise, this video very well explain,I love this jeep because it runs so so smoothly,I take good care of this jeep,I feel safe and its good car for lady. Thanks God blessing on you.and Google for amazing information .Thanks.
I have a truck that is that way. I can sometimes even take out the key while the engine is running. Make sure the key is turned off all the way before taking it out. Hope that helps.
Hi @scottolson , for me the clicking starts when in open my door (most of the time) but once i start the car and run on the AC it doesn’t click anymore. Will this cause any issue with starting up the car, because my Jp compass starts but shuts off right away. I went to the garage but all they did was service my car 🤦🏻♀️
G’day mate I’ve got a 2013/14 compass exact same model as exact same noise, is this part expensive, I’m in Australia, and is it popular as it does it happen all the time, and if I just left it would it cause any damage to the car or should I get it changed? Thanks a lot love your video cheer. Kind regards, Darren Attard 🇦🇺
I have a 2015 Jeep Patriot that is doing this currently. We just changed this exact part following the video and it seemed to stop the clicking for a few, but it’s back. Do you have any ideas what it could be now that the part is changed?
Thanks for the video. I had the same problem with a 2016 Jeep Patriot. You have to be a contortionist to get to the screws. I used a Phillips bit with a socket wrench since a stubby screwdriver was too long.
Mine is happening on the driver's side when I open the door. Nothing on Nokia in the ignition. I also had the actuator under the dashboard clicking but for some reason it had stopped weeks ago. Anyone know what my problem might be?
My friend has a 2013 patriot and he's been dealing with this noise for years hopefully we can find name of the actuator you are talking about so we can fix his car
Recomended OEM Parts, because,(i was told)when smoging your vehicle it wont let it pass smog, again,i was told,so im going to have to pay a lil extra, just in case, you never know
604-029 Dorman can be purchased online or local parts store. There is another actuator on drivers side above gas pedal, so listen to what side your noise is coming from.
My 2013 Patriot is doing this right now. Thankfully I still have my Mopar Vehicle Protection, which covers this AND I get a free rental. I love my Helfmen Dealership. I've learned the hard way to use Mopar parts. They might cost more but it pays off in the long run.

That nose came on sporadically for me. when I finally decide to look it up, and I find your video I turn my car on and boom, it's therer in full force! Your video is a god-sent
Glad it helped. It can really be annoying to have the clicking going on.

That's EXACTLY what I'm hearing with my 2012 Patriot...Thanks a million Scott!

Could this be the reason why my wife's heater doesn't work?
I just bought a 2012 Patriot and have that noise. When the weather gets agreeable, I'm doing this. Appreciate the video!

Do u need to disconnect the car battery

Yes, they can really stick you for lots of unneeded parts and service. Glad you were able to catch the problem.
Has anyone tried this in a Grand Cherokee?
OMG man , thank you for this, I was almost crazy trying figure it out what was that damn sound! I almost take out the whole dashboard!
This totally worked for the 2011 Jeep Compass Latitude I have. Bough the piece in auto zone for $35. Thank you so much!
Glad it worked. I just wish it was in a little more convenient spot.
I'm going to attempt this repair today. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! This has been driving me clicky clacky! Lol everyone could hear it, and just stare... Imma start My replacement soon.

I have a Jeep Compass that ticks without key in ignition also causes AC air to blow out lightly
All the while with NO KEY IN IGNITION. HELP
I have a truck that is that way. I can sometimes even take out the key while the engine is running. Make sure the key is turned off all the way before taking it out. Hope that helps.

Can you please advise Exact name of the part. Also if you can share part number of the part.
I believe it is called a blower motor actuator.
Just bought a jeep compass 2016. Thank you for posting
They can be fun to drive.

My car also back to clicking again after changed few days
How do you fix it again?
I’m a year late but I found out there are three different actuators that all cause the same noise
Why haven't jeep made recalls for these brand new or old compass or patriot I have always heard that noise thank you
Because it's not a safety issue
They should have used a different plastic since so many of these seem to go bad.

Mine has been doing the same sound for a year now. Thanks
There are three different actuators I’m lost on which one to buy most mechanics want to charge $65 to check and that’s crazy
I just removed mine and took it to the parts store and they matched the same one.
Thank you! I got to fix my jeep patriot 2013 myself 👌🏼
They can be fun cars.
My friend has a 2013 patriot and he's been dealing with this noise for years hopefully we can find name of the actuator you are talking about so we can fix his car
You should be able to go into an auto parts store and tell them you need one for your particular car. Good luck!
@@create1631 already did. Just change out this part yesterday but thank you
Recomended OEM Parts, because,(i was told)when smoging your vehicle it wont let it pass smog, again,i was told,so im going to have to pay a lil extra, just in case, you never know
This part doesn't have anything to do with the engine. It only opens and closes the fan door to heat or cool the inside of the car.
I replaced it and its still clicking 😢
Can it cause my battery empty?? I have the same problem and battery is always empty.....sorry im a french speaker
That's a different problem. It may be a bad battery or an alternator.
What did this thing control anyway ?
It opens and closes the door for heat and air conditioning, so you get more or less heat or air conditioning.
Hearing the exact noise in my 2012 Patriot...thought it was my engine...Thank you!
That did the trick, thank you.
Thanks for the video that was useful. I fix my jeep quickly
thanks its helpful
do you have links for parts or model number please
Sorry I don't, but the automotive stores can easily find it for you.
604-029 Dorman can be purchased online or local parts store. There is another actuator on drivers side above gas pedal, so listen to what side your noise is coming from.
@@Brenda-nc7fq Thanks for the added info. That will help.
What is the part.
98 percent talking about things that you messed up.
It is the blower motor actuator. At a parts store you can just give them the part and they will find it for you.
I got the same problem right now so now I can fix it than you !!
Glad it helped!
TY, that's the exact sound.
Mines doing this
Dorman Products are garbage, spend the extra money and or buy oem. Replace once, good video. :)
Thanks for the tip!

My patriot is 110,000mile. I’m clickin. When using AC
This could still be the problem since it is the actuator that opens and closes the door.
You have two, the other is located above the gas pedal. Look up the diagram available online.
Jeep dodge cryslter at it again. Always has to be a problem.
2011 jeep compass isn’t worth crap. Save your money spendt $9000.00 on a compass ona $9000.00 car. Stay away from it
Next time make a video after you have done all the trouble shooting smh
I like it.
Just go to dealership… this takes so much time
Huh...I'd rather spend $20 than $300.
Oh yea! And get ripped off huh. Men, we should want to do such things on our own.
I got quoted over 500 dollars. I'd rather take time out of my day even if it's a few hours then pay that insane amount.
@@dellalyn9918lmfao
Those are torx screws maybe a t10 look em up you can get bits or screw drivers in all sizes
They're definitely Phillips head screws
