    I have a 2011 Town / Country. When I bought it it had a Sony aftermarket radio with an adapter for the steering buttons. I replaced it with a better unit and while installing it, I turned the key on without the steering buttons adapter powered and I got the exact same problem you had.
    I turned the key off, added power to the steering buttons adapter and that fixed it.
    yes, the interior CAN bus being open was what made the wipers come on.
    There is also a video from Eric O with this same problem. In his case, the wires under the rear carpet were broken. Same bus goes all the way back in a Van.

    Just started watching this video. We had a Jeep act the same way. It was a bad TIPM. Previous owner had replaced the TIPM with a refurbished unit and problem recurred shortly after we bought it. We got the previous owner to request a warranty replacement and had it installed. Still had problems but some symptoms were different. Bought a "new" TIPM from a different company, and the problems went away. Sold the Jeep.

    I've never experienced it but, on the Panther platform cars we have something called "Wacky Wiper Syndrome." This causes the windshield wipers to start working for no reason even when they are switched off. Seems the cavity where the wiper motor is mounted fills with water because the drains are clogged. I was thinking you had something similar here. Nope. It was the radio instead. Great video!

He had pulled the radio out cause it crapped out, and they hadn't put an aftermarket one in yet like they wanted to. I haven't watched the full video. First thought based on our 2015 Cherokee Latitude, steering column spiral harness turned out to be a spendy but correct part replacement. Wipers started at end of normal drive to church when parking. Climate control went blank. Was a dry day so we pulled the wiper fuse for the drive home later. Dealer thought it was resolved with some software updates, but turned out not to be the case. Many lose of communication errors and most related to controls on the steering wheel or column. Dealer called and stated it was a little bit of a stretch and expensive shot to fix, but best their best techs could conclude as the likely culprit. Thankfully it turned out to be the correct diagnosis for our Jeep.

I'm assuming it will be in every decent scantool. (at least I had all those options in my 2002 Acura MDX- but the car is pretty loaded and fancy with heated leather seats, heated mirrors, moon roof, auto dimming rear view mirror, dual climate control, etc.-- so maybe not every car will have all those options).

One, remove power to the unit and two, remove the connector buss on the radio. Removing power would not eliminate proximity shorts and opens to the buss with wiring, on-board hardware shorts and opens and loading issues, capacitance and inductance. Removing power would find any on-board electronic component / driver issues.

    Thank you Ivan for the loony tunes network! The network CRC error checking should stop broken messages. Maybe the Think tool could either merge with Pico or add more network checking capability. The think tool knows who is who so theoretically it should be able to monitor all good and bad modules messages to verify where the garbage is coming from. It's only going to get worse with more complexity.

  • @nukelauncher95
    @nukelauncher95 Рік тому

    When the factory radio died in my cousin's jeep, it somehow caused a parasitic draw by keeping the bus and all modules active. That shouldn't be possible as far as I'm aware. Instead of using a switched 12 volt source, the radio listens for messages on the bus and wakes up that way. It should not be broadcasting data that would keep other modules awake, but maybe the data it was transmitting was so garbled that the other modules didn't know what to do? Idk. Ripping the stock radio out fixed the issue and a Scosche dash kit and JVC head unit was a great upgrade.

      @@jtcoker2684 8 months ago? The aftermarket CAN translator box is junk. If you unplug it do the glitches go away?

      Gonna unplug it today like you did in the video. Was also wondering if the swc switch that is required with a new stereo unit could be the culprit

    Wipers and headlights are defaulted on Chryslers when there is no com. I believe heat and defrost are as well. That's their limp home strategy.

    It's very funny because most mechanics would never own a chrysler because of all the electrical gremlins ,I personally drive Ford , Chrysler, and Mazda .

    As a 30+ year 12 volt installer, I would bet dollars to doughnuts if you were pull that factory radio one will find some coins or bobby pins inside placed there by a bored toddler. I have seen this first hand, once with a dash fire. A 30 amp circuit is easily able to start an electrical fire. Add a plastic radio case and now you have a party.
