They scammed a x co-worker I used to work with before and told her she won 500,000 dollars and she had to send them 500 dollars and when she called them back she cursed them out and told them “ you a dumb MF for doing that “ and she said the man told her “ Naw, MF you’re the one who is dumb B!!!! I got your 500 dollars you dumb ssa” and hung up the phone 😂😂😂 then she still didn’t learn her lesson cause she told me that she knew someone selling money orders 5,000 for 50 dollars and I told her that money orders don’t even come that high and that the highest they come is 1,000 and she said “ well, they look legit and I need them” anyways I tried to tell her but she wouldn’t listen cause she wanted to believe it ( like JJ said) so she got scammed again and I didn’t say a word when she told me but I tried not to laugh cause she should have listened
And the sad part is, when JJ talks about "the government" and "some government", the defendant nods, agreeing, not even getting JJ is being sarcastic. Sheesh, some people really need saving from being potential victims (saying it nicely) of scams.

I’ve worked in both telecommunications and banking and the amount of times people fall for these scams is truly baffling. The worst is when it’s someone who is elderly because they can be so desperate for someone to be there for them to talk to that they just will not believe it’s a lie. The most heartbreaking experience I’ve ever had was an 80 year old lady sitting in my store sobbing because she really thought that man was her friend and he took her for every penny she had.
Yea unfortunately the reason these scams continue to exist is because people continue to fall for them. If they didn't work at least sometimes.... they wouldn't be so common.

I watched a UA-cam video “documentary” about this guy who knew he was being scammed but he fell in love with the guy who was scamming him, he fell in love with the idea of love and how the dude would call and talk to him. He ended up homeless and then missing, was a sad thing to see. Guy needed help and knew it, but was addicted to the scammer basically.

I had a cousin almost fall for this scam! She asked my dad for $3000 to help the guy get home from Afghanistan cause he was also supposedly “kicked out” of the military. She refused to believe us that it was a scam and completely cut us out of her life despite now knowing we were right.

There was an investigation into criminals targeting people on dating sites, always claiming to be in the military then asking for cash to be wired to them for some mahor need or emergency. Looks like the defendant was one of those victims...
I came across these romance scammers on a dating site. They operate in teams, often working on the victim for several weeks before they ask for money. Sometimes they claim to be in the military, sometimes they say they have a job on an oil rig. That lets them explain 1) why they can't meet in person, and 2) why they suddenly need lots of money. I wasn't fooled for long--the person claimed to live in my state, but they didn't know a very popular restaurant in the area, and their command of English varied from day to day. (See above about working in teams.) Once you've come across them, their tactics are blindingly obvious. They always work in a remote area. They always try to get you to move away from the dating site as soon as possible. They almost never want to talk on the phone. The photos they use are from stock photo sites.
The woman had more faith in a man she's never even met or seen than she does in the military! Thinking they would discharge someone and just leave them in a country we are at war with 🤦♀️and she didnt know why he was discharged. She just bought it. Tell me youre desperate without saying you're desperate!

They had been talking for months, and she needed two thousand dollars for him to get home from canada because he didn't have his license or visa or something. She couldn't even explain it. I tried to tell her that it sounded like a scam, and she got so offended that I would think she was dumb enough to fall for a scam. ( which it obviously was because she didn't want to discuss it about a month later ) He probably scammed her out of a whole disability check I would imagine. Peanuts to him, everything to her. Taking advantage of someone's lonliness is as low as you can get

I have a woman I help with rides and things. She told me that she had met a guy online and she was in love. They had been talking for months, and she needed two thousand dollars for him to get home from canada because he didn't have his license or visa or something. She couldn't even explain it. I tried to tell her that it sounded like a scam, and she got so offended that I would think she was dumb enough to fall for a scam. ( which it obviously was because she didn't want to discuss it about a month later ) He probably scammed her out of a whole disability check I would imagine. Peanuts to him, everything to her. Taking advantage of someone's lonliness is as low as you can get

Sad case, the defendant really wanted to believe he was for real.
