So far, listening to this, I could not live like that. I have done it in the past due to my addiction. I now have 17 years clean and sober and I have not been homeless since I got clean. But to be elderly, with complicated health problems and living in this chaotic mess of a situation, I have some compassion for her, but something like this, it is usually always the fault of the person. That may sound harsh, but that has been my experience and what have witnessed over and over and over. I don't know exactly what her issues are, but she most definitely has some, and I certainly hope that she can get her act together. At some point, a person has to realize that this is their own fault and hopefully come to the conclusion that they have had enough.

We were homeless. We had money. There was a housing shortage. We paid for storage, but could not find a place to live. Not every homeless person is an addict, folks.
Exactly. I’ve been in that position before and the only thing I ever did was smoke cigarettes I didn’t even drink at all back then. People assume the worst about homeless people because it makes them feel better about not caring what happens to them. They think it somehow must be their fault due to drugs therefore they deserve it or something. Simply both cruel and untrue.

At least your relative seems like a decent person. Not too many people are nowadays
