Thanks for the good times, XCOM. It's been a wild ride. Can't wait to see what XCOM2 has to offer. For those of you interested in continuing your own XCOM challenge runs, don't forget to stick around at the end of the video for a little parting gift from me :)
My understanding of the crazy high chrysalid will is that they’re absolutely laser focused on eating everything in the universe, and it’s only through incredible psionic power that you can force them to do anything other than that.
The thing with Chryssalids having incredibly high Will is that they are ridiculusly enhanced microscopic insects that are operating on a Hivemind, so they have their emotions reduced to Fight or Flight and procreate through Parasitic means which means little to no room for telepathic discussions
Basically you're trying to use your own will to suppress a being who's already melding into a hive mind (I guess a way to describe it is trying to keep out a horde of creatures from breaking down a door while you're the only one bracing it from being broken down).
I have 170 hours in xcom and i never knew that the squad leader was the slightly closer to the camera spot, i always assumed it was the highest rank squad member.
Pretty sure you are right. It's just that the position is the deciding factor if ranks are equal. That position will also always have your squad leader before reassigning soldiers. (Double checked with the wiki) Edit: Triple checked in game, wiki is right. Wiki also states that the next conditions (if both previous statements can't decide the leader) are who has the most missions and then the most kills.
Pretty sure that's not true, the highest ranking soldier is the leader. And if two or more have the same rank - then it depends on who has the higher Will
I was told the larger the discrepancy, the higher the hit, but I never believed the larger the discrepancy, the higher the hit until I tried a higher discrepancy to achieve a higher chance to hit.
I have not played vanilla in so long that I did a spit take when you say you equipped titan armor before the base assault. Really puts into perspective how much Long War changes the pacing of the tech tree in this game.
I'd like to imagine each of these runs exist somewhere on earth. Like the Robot Army get deployed in India and Master Chef is sent to Canada while the Psychic Soldiers are in Australia
Drifter’s Broadcast did a similar run in xcom2 (it was done a little differently but that was probably because it was a different game) and it was hell on earth THE HIGHER THE DISCREPANCY THE HIGHER THE CHANCE TO HIT
Aside from possible in lore reasons, I think part of why some even stronger enemies have such low will is so that psychic powers are still useful in some situations in the late game too. Cause let's be real... if every enemy past the early game has so much will that psychic powers were a no go, nobody would really use them at all due to them having like zero reasonable use cases.
Mind Control is such a fun mechanic in these games, although it always makes me wish there was a way to recruit the Aliens or have a full aliens campaign, I did a similar run on a game called "Phoenix Point" and have been a Psi-Addict in every game it's an option ever since
as someone who has actually played the multiplayer i have to say: If you recruit any lowtear aliens they are just a waste of troop slot. higher tier aliens (the tale robed guys in particular [come on brain i LITTERALLY just watched a video where he mentions their name...]) they become overpowered very quickly. (laughs in multiple psy malestorms...) So while it IS possible in theory, it would be very dificult to balance. Unless you want to compleatly rework how they function and make them closer to "normal" soldiers. Like in xcom chimera squad.
I discovered your channel from your xcom challenge runs, SHIV only and 1 MEC only specifically. Your combination of skill, perseverance, positive attitude, and creative thinking have been a pleasure to enjoy. It's sad to see xcom being retired from your challenge run lineup, but it's going out on a high note. Looking forward to your future content.
It's honestly kinda funny how this run is either really simple (I don't think any of your other challenge runs have had a final room that looked that clean) or hilariously hard, with no in-between. I thought that Ethereals would be harder, though - I guess your Will was just that obscenely high at the end (and that's without Mind Shields!).
Your challenge runs brought me back into the games, I had played xcom enemy within and also 2 when i was younger but had never gotten far in either, but after seeing one of your runs i played through and beat enemy within and then xcom 2, buying the dlc and beating it again. Thanks for finally getting me to finish those masterpieces.
Hi there Lemmon. I am reporting back with the pistol run results. Despite my 1080 hours on it already, most on long war, I could not make it happen on max difficulty. Early game sectoids could not be killed. On second hardest it was a grind. The first few thin men killed my A and B team. But I rushed live alien captures and had plasma pistols researching by month two. Once those came in I felt unstoppable. It did take my whole squad doubletapping or trippletapping to down sectopods but they could be killed. Assault with the free shot within 4 tiles and doubletap as well as increased crit damage was the real mvp. We ended the run with 59 deaths, most on the first months and the horrid base defense. Once that mission finished I had only two troopers ready for missions. Had to buy in more.
I'm gonna be honest, you and Thedriftersbroadcast were the two people who got me intrested in the XCOM franchise, and i sincerely thank you for it. These games are amazing.
Love the xcom content, almost as much as all the dark souls stuff! I'm pretty new, I found you last October after I had a crazy car accident. Shattered my femur, broke my elbow, and almost died. Your videos helped me through the hospital stay, and are helping to keep me sane through the recovery. Thank you for the entertainment, and I can't wait for the next one!
Loved the challenge run! Mind-Control especially meant that I was always looking forward to see what kinda useless or absolutely devastating abilities you'd get access to xD Also very much appreciative of the behind the scenes / tutorial in the end^^
I found this channel not so long ago because I loved the format of the XCOM EW challenges, cant wait to see you in XCOM 2 ❤ (+let's hope the rumours+"leaks" are true and we'll hear about XCOM 3 this year)
I'll always be thankful for your Xcom runs because they are how I got into your channel, which is now one of my favorites. Thank you for the good times, Lemon, and can't wait for what the future has in store next.
Yeah the heavy Mech missions were the only real speedbumps I forsaw for a challenge like this. You could so easily get stuck with 2 or 3 pods of cyberdisks and sectapod. Good choice on hust skipping missions until the end. Bypasses that chance of getting soft locked.
Your explosives only run inspired me to re-download this game recently. Haven't played in close to a decade, and the rust is heavy lol. Excited to get back into shape and eventually start XCOM 2. Looking forward to runs for the sequel Lemon!
I got into this channel due to all the challenge runs and xcom has been one of my favorites. I'd love to see you take on the long war mod but i understand that's a lot to ask for. Looking forward to xcom 2
Honestly never played XCOM but maybe once, and it wasn't my cuppa tea, but watching your runs is something I look forward to 10/10 times. So I'm excited to see what you do with XCOM 2!
Nice job on this one! I remember how much trouble TheDriftersBroadcast had with the psi ops only run, Good going sticking it out through 5 failed timelines
As always Lemon, your endings are impeccable. Whether it be the ending of your time with XCOM:Enemy Within or your ending of the video. Perfection! A bit of hyperbole aside. Looking forward to your XCOME 2 videos. Plus, I thought you sent XCOM 1 out in style with a very unique run I never even thought of. Very nice Lemon, thanks for the video.
Bruh, I love these Xcom runs... I can't wait for these xcom 2 runs... you thought this was hellish. Just wait till you're playing War of the Chosen with only a specific class! I salute you, Lemon 🫡
Can’t wait for some xcom 2 I’m on the younger side so I watched my dad play enemy within but I personally started with 2 so I’m excited to see some videos on it
I have no opinion on XCOM, never played it and it's not really my game, but I'm always happy to see you playing it lemon! I appreciate you letting folks live vicariously through you on this game, albeit in... Very interesting ways to say the least
I know virtually nothing about XCOM, but I have loved these videos. Thank you for making these, Lemon. Looking forward to the future of XCOM on the channel
I actualy started playing enemy within a month ago before this video came out after getting into your channel and while I haven’t finished my first playthrough yet I’m having a blast
Recently discovered your channel, binge-watched like 30 video over the past couple of weeks. Now every day you upload makes me really happy. Thank you!
Found you through Meaty Jesus and am really glad I did. You and your channel are genuinely entertaining, and equally good for dedicated watching and for side binging alike - nice combination of qualities like that. Happy to subscribe and work myself through your existing and future stuff.
Continue the amazing work! Praise be the firebomb!! P.S. there is one more run, but I don't think it's possible... 1 psi soldier only... im sorry, I'll leave now. Love ya!
This has absolutely nothing to do with this fabulous video but I finally connected who you sound like. You and Roanoke Gaming / Roanoke Tales sound so similar.
Remember when you beat this game with SHIVs There is a SHIV mod on the workshop Have fun :) Note: there are many situations where you will need to use a meatbag because SHIVs can cause problems on certain missions "lost and found" being one of them and any mission where you need to plant X4 is a write off without Conscencious objector. They do however work on the base defence mission. Tips as I have tried a bit of this run myself: 1. rush the proving ground, that is where you get your SHIVs 2. If a shiv can't move at the start of a mission, that is because it thinks it is surrounded by full cover blocking it's path 3. all SHIVs can move like Sparks as they have thrusters in their tracks 4. depending on which mod you use, the SHIVs may get abilities and rank up allowing you to use the Geurilla Tactics School to increase squad size 5. Of playing WOTC, keep your starting squad around for the lost and abandoned mission as well as covert ops. if you get ambushed, then you need to get to evac without killing any enemies or just bump them off in the mission because they are not beautiful smol tanks with rotary cannons 6. scout SHIVs can be equipped with all of the primary weapons from the base game apart from cannons which are replaced by SHIV cannons, Alloy SHIVS can only use the SHIV cannon and sniper 7. unless using Muashi's RPG overhaul, DON'T USE SNIPER RIFLES. SHIVs get no squadsight abilities and snipers are not very useful without Squadsight hope you have fun with this challenge if you go for it
So, I watched a...couple of Lemon's videos. Just a few. But I still can't take it for granted how he remains so calm while doing the most infuriating challenges sometimes. Yes, even if he's a Patience Elemental. And yes, I just re-watched his DS3 Firebomb only run.

I love all of these challenge run vids especially for XCOM EW! So looking forward to what you do with my favorite game of all time XCOM 2!!!
Lemon! You should totally upload a normal playthrough of Xcom 2 just so we get to see your normal playthrough methods!
XCOM 2 is gonna be fun I promise, I've played the game multiple times and I always have fun
I am curious, did you ever have to face an ethereal in the Base Defense mission?
As a sidenote, love the new intro
My understanding of the crazy high chrysalid will is that they’re absolutely laser focused on eating everything in the universe, and it’s only through incredible psionic power that you can force them to do anything other than that.
They are too stupid to command.
Technically fucking since they..make babies while eating?
They're too animalistic in nature to think of anything but their core impulsive instinct, makes a lot of sense
The thing with Chryssalids having incredibly high Will is that they are ridiculusly enhanced microscopic insects that are operating on a Hivemind, so they have their emotions reduced to Fight or Flight and procreate through Parasitic means which means little to no room for telepathic discussions

It’s been lovely to have you as part of the XCOM Enemy within community. We love you lemon ❤

Speaking of the XCOM community... does anyone reading this have the Bubonic achievement on Steam? It'd awesome if I could get that lol.
