I feel like the problem with the facial animation is that they are super highly animated and emotive, but the rest of the body is still completely unmoving. So as a result you get this weird uncanny valley effect since you have a head that's hyper expressive and bouncing around as it talks grafted on top of what might as well be a mannequin for how little the body moves or emotes.
Curiously, a read a review from a friend on Steam for Horizon: Zero Dawn just a couple of hours ago, exactly about uncanny valley. And I think both of you are right on the money: (...) Last but definitely not least... (actually, this is my biggest gripe with the game) Horizon Zero Dawn is the most acute case of "uncanny valley" I've ever personally witnessed. The game just looks...... wrong. The bit in the intro where we get to play as child-Aloy was particularly sickening to me. Her model just looks... unnatural. The characters are constantly twitching in ways humans just don't and the changes from animation to animation in conversation can be very abrupt. It's like they tried to add a ton of subtlety and variety to the movements but there is actually too much and they don't connect naturally? It made me super uncomfortable to the point where I started to actually avoid dialogue. Which is a bit of a shame because I've been told that the story in this game is actually pretty decent.
It's not exactly that but it pronounces it. The faces in a lot of games are a bit OVER Animated. If you keep a close atttention to faces of people when they talk, you notice movement but only in rare cases it is super its exaggerated. Faces move sutle and its the missing sutle movement that makes it stiff in older games ( where its only mouth movement) But here its too much and unnatural and therefore uncanny and wierd to watch.
I've been binge-listening to your runs a LOT recently while working on my school projects. Surprisingly they help me focus a lot, but I'm at a point where I'm re-listening to many of them lol. Interesting enough, DS3 technically also cuts your HP if you're not human 'AKA embered', but instead of being a visible, set begin with, effect, it's hidden, and the health is 'given' when you kill the tutorial boss of that game. It's a interesting concept to keep a so-far staple mechanic, but trick players brains to view it as a reward rather then a standard formula of hardship... Honestly a unique little thing about our brains. Plus, I think seeing you challenge kings field and shadow tower, would be super cool actually.. a little YTber going by blinge did a magic only kings field (1-3) and a gun only shadow tower, truthfully hard and fun challenges, but Goodluck getting your hand on those games lol but you should be fine, hell you did potato only salt and sanctuary, I believe you can handle the pain of those two games.
DS3 is also balanced to have your non-Embered health be decently playable as well. Demon's Souls balances it around your full health and says "you get half now, fuck balancing"

You know, Lemon, it occurs to me that there are 2 games you probably haven't heard about that have the ability to deal fire damage/ use firebombs aplenty that would fit your patience idea greatly. Granted, those games are also CRPG's of 60+ hours each, so it would likely be longstanding projects, but still. The first is Pathfinder: Wrath of the righteous, there you can play as an infuser, a class that specializes in using specific types of energy damage (like fire) and one of the abilities that class unlocks is the ability to create a bomb of their chosen infusion element (fire) The 2nd game is Rogue Trader, there you can pick a Sanctioned Psyker to be able to use Pyrokinesis, your first unlocked ability is literally the ability to set your enemies on fire, with more fire abilities you can unlock later, including abilities that encourage you to set YOURSELF on fire. The game also has fire grenades and fire weaponry in the form of flamers (literal flamethrowers) and plasma guns because liquid fire is still fire.
Glad you've made use of the double rtsr setup, it's one of the things I really love in this game, as it can make pretty much any weapon hilariously overpowered

17:55 I don't know anything about demon's souls but I'd guess flamelurker has some flat damage resistances which work best against smaller hits. As an example let's say you do 100 base damage per hit and the enemy has 10 flat damage reduction so the final hit will deal 90 damage. If you add a 50% damage buff, your base damage goes to 150 damage but the damage reduction stays the same, so you deal 140 total damage. That means your 50% damage buff actually increases your damage by about 55% and even more if the flat damage reduction is higher.
hah, and you sealed the book for near the whole series with my fvorite weapon type. well done. Also, thank you. you and some other challenge runners got me into observing gimmick run ideas in my own games now.
It's only recently that I managed to finally find a physical copy of Demon's souls remake in my country after having the ps5 for year and a half, and yep, as someone that loves bloodborne and all things lovecraftian, I too fell in love with the storm king's soundtrack/sound effects, super simple boss fight, specially if you use the sword, but all the sound engineering made it epic as hell.

What I love about demon souls is the really out there ideas the team came up with for the bosses. The old hero and the stone king are boss concepts I’d love to see revisited in newer games cause in a better system they could be the most memorable moments of a game.
So the only scaling crossbow gets +40 damage, at 99 of a stat... not even usually used for archery? But MAGIC? Dang, that's sadistic. Somebody at From must have had themselves quite a giggle at that one.
I have a run idea. Lords of the fallen 2023 with firebombs only. They use ammunition pouches so you can actually stock up on a ton of them and never have to worry about inventory spaces. If there was a way to summon specific people, I'd be happy to grind out some ammunition pouches to help you along, or at the very least, drop you a firebomb so you can start at the beginning without glitches and avoid anyone who says "run invalid". The best part is some firebombs actually scale with stats, and there's a ring to increase damage of thrown items. It'll still be hard but manageable. There's also a farming spot that doesn't require you to do anything other than lead someone off a cliff so infinite vigor (souls) to purchase supplies.

Patches is secretly the best in this game. He sells high level grass for relatively cheap. He carried me through this game. Secretly great. And since I used a bow as a sidearm, his arrow upgrades were great too. Chad patches.
For clever rat ring not doing 50% more damage maybe this is because of defence/res, maybe if you deal 100 damage and boss takes 50, when you deal 150 he takes 100, i dont know how that works in souls but different games treat defences differently, some have it as a % and some as static number, so that might be another explanation
That's right! It's why mixed damage usually needs to be look much higher to equal a single type; it's fighting through two resists. It's not exactly 1 armor = 1 damage reduced, but it is slanted such that armor stats are much better at blocking small hits than big ones. If you've gone through an early game area with lategame gear, you might've been surprised by everything bouncing off. My own experience of hyper mode multi is a level 1 character holding a morion blade and a lava bow (two weapons sl1 does not have the stats for) to kill a pure black NG7 Leechmonger. 1.5x1.3 is just under 2, but it feels like it does ten times the regular damage against a low resist.
Yes, the bonus is applied before resist, so it appears higher than 50%. It is the same in ds1, so I am surprised he didn't seem to know this. Strangely though, power within was applied after defenses because it's good to stay consistent lol

The remake is still the most beautiful PS5 game made so far, I was mindblown when I first played this version, the graphics, the sound effects, so good.

Patches is secretly the best in this game. He sells high level grass for relatively cheap. He carried me through this game. Secretly great. And since I used a bow as a sidearm, his arrow upgrades were great too. Chad patches.
For clever rat ring not doing 50% more damage maybe this is because of defence/res, maybe if you deal 100 damage and boss takes 50, when you deal 150 he takes 100, i dont know how that works in souls but different games treat defences differently, some have it as a % and some as static number, so that might be another explanation
That's right! It's why mixed damage usually needs to be look much higher to equal a single type; it's fighting through two resists. It's not exactly 1 armor = 1 damage reduced, but it is slanted such that armor stats are much better at blocking small hits than big ones. If you've gone through an early game area with lategame gear, you might've been surprised by everything bouncing off.
My own experience of hyper mode multi is a level 1 character holding a morion blade and a lava bow (two weapons sl1 does not have the stats for) to kill a pure black NG7 Leechmonger. 1.5x1.3 is just under 2, but it feels like it does ten times the regular damage against a low resist.
Yes, the bonus is applied before resist, so it appears higher than 50%. It is the same in ds1, so I am surprised he didn't seem to know this. Strangely though, power within was applied after defenses because it's good to stay consistent lol
