    I feel like this is one of those books in school where everyone who did a presentation on it had a completely different one from the next lol. I'm glad it ended up getting 4 stars from you, I also loved Olivia's parts. I thought the author did a great job convincing me that that's what a cat thinks and feels. The "teds" thing I thought was so funny and clever, and I still remember a scene where she knocked over a pill bottle and how real it felt to read from her perspective. You definitely went as in-depth as possible without spoiling anything, awesome review as usual. Really cool hair color too, reminds me of one I used to use, I think it's called Vampire Red.

      Thanks so much! I feel like I always end up going back to dark red hair at some point during the year. lol And yeah, Ward totally nailed the cat chapters. But I agree, every single review I read on reddit and goodreads about this one is all over the place compared to the next.

    I just finshed the book. I really enjoyed it. I also saw the twist coming. But it was good. The pacing was a little slow, but it kept me interested and I would also highly recommend this book. Great video, Thank you.

      I really enjoyed this one! Though I actually think I prefer her latest novel, Sundial. It's just as twisty and bizarre, but I didn't see any of the twists coming.

      @@violetprynne I also just finished the book tonight, and wow; what a ride. I must read Sundial now! BTW, you look amazing with the auburn matching all over the place, AND I would love for you to check out my own occult horror short story anthology, coming out in March with Moon Books in London - can I send you an advance?? Thanks for the great review! Gonna look up Sundial. (PS, "The Descent" is one of my favorite actually scary films due to the claustrophobia - omg.)

    Thanks for the review, I've been on the fence about this one! I hope you were able to check out The Chestnut Man on Netflix! I enjoyed it overall, but liked the book better which is usually the case for me lol. Btw, have you read The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova? Great book for this time of year. It's sort of dark academia, a real slow burn but beautifully written. I think you would really enjoy it! The reviews are pretty low but I don't understand that at all. I've noticed I tend to dislike books that have overall great reviews and hype, lol. Love your hair btw, that color is beautiful on you! Thanks again, & happy reading!

      Thank you so much! I have not seen The Chestnut Man yet! I'm finishing up Midnight Mass right now and am then hoping to get to it. And I've heard really good things about The Historian, so I'll have to check it out :D

      @@violetprynne How do you like Midnight Mass? I binged it last Friday and loved it, but the first season of HOHH was my favorite piece of media of all time so I think I'm biased with anything Flanagan makes now, lol. I definitely understand why many people aren't so high on it though, with the monologues and everything. Definitely pretty forced at times.
      Yessss, I know you would absolutely love The Historian! Such an elegant, beautiful book. It's so eerie and it reminds me of the classics in the way it is written so beautifully. I figured it would be amateurish and cheesy from the reviews but noooo, it feels like something straight out of the 1890s. I can't wait for your review if you check it out sometime! :)

      @@howboutdemboys1358 I really like Midnight Mass so far! I'm only about halfway through, but I think it's brilliant! So happy to see vampires are making appearances in TV again, as with the new season of American Horror Story, which I also love so far!

    I have never read Gone Girl so...I do own the book though so I probably will read it at some point. I have been on the fence about wanting to read this one because when a book is too overly hyped I tend to end up not liking the book lol the cover is gorgeous though 😍 thanks for letting me know how you felt about I am Thinking of Ending Things movie because that is another thing I am on the fence about! Lol especially because I have not read the book yet

    • @violetprynne
      @violetprynne  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I wasn't able to get very far into Gone Girl. I just couldn't get into it and since I already knew the twist, it took all the mystery out of it. I'm Thinking of Ending Things is a really cool book. It's another one that's super stylized and weird, but way better than the movie. The whole second half of the movie just completely ruined the message of the book in my opinion.

      @@violetprynne that's too bad. I still don't know the twist for Gone Girl so maybe I will like it better

    This book is so confusing, towards the middle is when you know for sure what Ted is about, at the beginning you kinda know who Ted is by the description of his mom of him, but you don’t really know what’s he up to really, I’m still not finished with the book, it’s definitely a psychological horror, and uncomfortable. So far I’m enjoying it.

      The first half of this book was like walking through a maze. It does all come together in the end, but yeah, I was definitely very confused for a lot of this. lol

    This is the first not so great review I've seen of this book. Which is actually a good thing. Now I know not to go into it expecting a 5 star read.

    • @violetprynne
      @violetprynne  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I definitely was intrigued by this one, but it wasn't at all as great as all of the hype made it seem. I also fee like I've read a lot of books recently very similar to this one, and therefore was able to see the twist coming.

    Why did you hate gone girl? ❤

    • @violetprynne

      I didn't enjoy the film, and when I started reading the book I didn't enjoy the writing. Since I had seen the film without realizing it was a book, I also already knew the twist and wasn't compelled to keep reading. The film definitely turned me off the book, which is a bummer as I try very hard to never see a film without reading the book first.

    Finally someone else not liking Gone, Girl. Didn't like the book or the movie, and I hate the fact that thrillers today still get compared to Gone, Girl. Don't understand the hype.

      I think everyone always focuses in on the twist in that novel but never looks beyond it. (I personally did not see the twist coming.) I found all of the characters so unlikable and annoying that I'm stunned it's so well loved. lol

    I didn't love the way mental illness is handled in this book just because it feel like compassion for mental illness only comes into the picture after the twist. Before then it kind of falls into the people with mental illness are scary trope.

    • @violetprynne

      I actually thought the opposite. I think Ward was trying to show the reader that we as a society are often quick to judge people based on appearances and what we think we know (hence Ted seeming scary) but in the very beginning of the book she pretty much tells the reader that Ted didn't commit the crime, so it's on the reader to make their own conclusions from there. So from the get-go, the reader is the only person who is judging Ted. I really loved this tactic. And it helped me figure out the twist as I was going along. I also love that Ward worked with people who suffer from the same type of mental illness in order to create her character and made sure they were okay with her portrayal.
