I’ve only just finished Sundial and I needed someone to freak out about it with but nobody in my “real life” has read it so thank you for hitting all the beats. This was my first date with Ward (it won’t be my last) and I loved it soooo much
Great review. Totally agree that the quality of a book and the amount of enjoyment you get from it aren’t necessarily linked at all. I actually really didn’t like Needless St, but I think I might just have been in a bad mood when I read it. 😂 I have Sundial and hope to get to it soon.
Hello! My name is Tammy. I am one of your Patrons and I can’t wait to get into books with you! You have a knack for picking all of the best books. I wish I knew how to do what you do! You also describe them with all of their nuances … You’re amazing at that! I can see you writing a column in a newspaper or magazine or both about the books you read and suggest. All of the books I’ve read from your suggestions I’ve LOVED! I can’t wait to see what you do next!
I agree with you so much! Willow has managed to make her community of like minded readers mostly, since we all have this particular taste- I can't describe it tho!
I will be reading this selection. I really liked the "The Last House on Needless Street" & was one of my fav reads of 2022. The nature vs. nurture theme is interesting to me also. I do think if I had a different childhood, would I my personality be different - would I be different? I guess there is the percentage thing....what percent nature - what percent nurture? Any case, this book sounds great to me. Thanks for the highlights.
This book stuck in my mind like a grain of sand in a clam. I read it in November and I can't stop thinking about it. There are some crumbs that still irritate my mind and... did I misread it? Did I miss something?! There's one particular thing that won't let me goooooooo! But it's potentially a spoiler, so I can't write it here. The last house on Needless street wrapped up nicely, even tho I was sitting with my jaw dropped on each and every turn. Read it in September, am still fascinated with it. Now I need to read all of Catriona Ward's books!
Hi Willow. I recently finished Little Eve. Thought it was OK. Think I preferred Last House which is a good thing because it shows how much Ward has evolved. But anyway, (and this is a little off topic, I've literally just finished reading Where I End by Sophie White and I had to tell someone about it and I'm not on social media anymore so I came here 😅. I think you'd really like it. It's so twisted. Like, I cannot stress enough how twisted. I mean, I read Lapvona this month but I feel Where I End will stick with me more. An amazing horror novel. Don't know what kind of traction it's getting but if you ever do read I'd love to know your thoughts on it.
Dear Willow, will you recommend more 19th century victorian/gothic books? Please do! I loved your previous videos. You helped me a lot. But I need more...! 🥴
I just read sundial and I cannot stop thinking about it!!! I just love catriona ward.

I met Cat at an event a few weeks ago and she’s the most wonderful, quietly eccentric woman I’ve ever met

I loved this book. I know it's not the best received of her novels but hot dang did I enjoy it.
I am reading Sundial right now!! Just rented it from the library and started it last night how perfect to see your video I was looking for a review! ❤
A happy coincidence! Enjoy :)

Your makeup is perfect and you're so beautiful 😭 Also I plan on reading her book Little Eve soon. I feel confident that I'll end up loving it :)
Thank you Rachel 🥹
Thank you for your thoughtful review!! It's made my [very stressful and to be honest pretty horrendous] day so so much warmer and fuzzier! 🤩🙏
I’m so sorry you’re having a stressful day! Glad I could bring a tiny bit of comfort :)

Sounds fantastic. I love a good nature vs nurture debate. I have 2 anxious parents so I had no hope 😂
Haha I’m so sorry about that!
@@WillowTalksBooks luck of the draw, innit? 😆
I absolutely loved The Last House On Needless Street and Sundial was one of my personal top ten horror novels of 2022.

Another who nails horror, gothic, mysteries is Laura Purcell Silent Companions really gave me the creeps.
Yeah I’ve got a whole shrine of her books lol
@@WillowTalksBooks Me too instant buy ❤

it is super funny that it is called sundial because in the middle of nowhere in SD there is a therapy/rehab center called sundial
Oh interesting!

I have articles full of those books on my website :)
You must read Cat Ward's first two books - Rawblood and Little Eve!! They're both historical gothic which I know you like :)
Oh I absolutely must, thank you!
💕💕💕
Aren’t marriages technically contracts? :p
lol I guess so, yeah
I’ve heard there is very graphic animal cruelty in this which unfortunately, (because otherwise it sounds great) means I’ll be giving it a wide berth.
Totally fair
I like the last 2/3 of the book but at least the first half was a bit dragging and boring
