Intriguing review The muteable spoiler section is a cool feature. I viewed with the spoilers muted. But like the fact I can go back and listen to them if I decide I am not reading the book or after I have read it.
Thank you for this review! I felt like I was going crazy with how so many reviews were proclaiming this book was a masterpiece. "Shyamalan twists" was an accurate description. I even joked about it to my friends who loved this novel that I felt that the story was choppy and purposefully dropping wrong information that make it hard for readers to piece things together just to pull out a new 'twist' every few chapters. The amount of cliche horror tropes are tired, especially the use of mental health issues presented in Ted. And the mother was so unrealistic she really did seem like a video game villain more than anything. This book asks you to suspend your disbelief at every turn while trying to be coy with its use of smoke and mirrors, but it just ends up being a frustrating read.
THANK YOU. I’ve only seen glowing reviews for this book. I got to the twist and audibly said “are you serious” and had to refrain from throwing it out the window.
I was watching this while writing my own review, hoping to find some people who had similar thoughts to mine. (SPOILER ALERT) Someone I love really deeply has DID, and while I appreciated the bit of effort she put in (certainly better than the multitude of other times I've seen this twist done) I still finished the book frustrated and disappointed. People with DID aren't the unstable psychopaths they're usually presented as, but they're also not pitiable Quasimoto archetypes either. They live absolutely normal lives. Hold down jobs. Go to school. Fall in love. Succeed and fail at their goals in the same way we all do. I'm tired of this twist in general to the point I always notice it coming and whisper to my partner "I will kill myself if this book ends this way AGAIN."
Thank you for sharing. I can see your point and what I will say is as someone who doesn’t know much about DID. Finishing the book made me open a door, if you will, to learn more about the condition and people living with it. If anything, it’s made me more sensitive/compassionate for people who have this condition. I appreciate your insight. I’ll carry this new awareness from here in out.
I know it been a while for this video, but I wish you'll notice my comment. Great great review shows how smart and educated you are. I've just placed my review on Amazon, gave it 3 stars just to be fair for the last few chapters with the revelations that's it, even though the author left things unexplained and holes unfilled. The book was exhausting, vague sentences and even some vague paragraphs. I read a book to enjoy it and not to use every brain cell I have. How it was adopted into a movie??? Just don't know AND don't know how they're going to pull it through.
"This house may look good on the outside but on the inside, its a real fixer-upper." Nice way to close out this review. Too bad it wasn't as good as many people have been saying it is. Even Stephen King liked it. But I think that can happen with novels that take a long time to write. I think the author over thought too much on how to tell the story.
I’m really struggling with this one and I wanted to read it so badly. 70 pages in and I don’t know why I’m reading from the cats point of view. Please tell me it gets better. It has such a big hype and o don’t understand why so far.
Even though the book may have been stupid, I still enjoyed reading it. Still very sad. I think they are making this a movie. I’ll check out the books you gave 5 star reviews.
Don’t just focus on those! You might think one of my 2 star books was a 5 star and vice versa. There are books worth reading all along the rating scale.

No matter the quality of the book, your review never fails to entertain. Thank you!

Thanks for the review. Sounds a bit like how I felt about Gone Girl

If you watched the entire review, then you’ve already heard me not telling you it gets better.
Depends on the person, I also struggled initially and thought why is it hyped but I enjoyed this book a lot.
Her name is pronounced Katrina.
One of the reasons I don't like horror is that so much of it is there for the schock value.

Completely disagree... it's fantastic. This guy is spoiling the book from the very beginning.
