On many planes, the Cap, regardless of who is flying, grabs the tiller (Nose wheel sterring) while the F/O pushed the yoke fwd to have directional control until enough airspeed is created to have RUDDER effectiveness. Then until a certain speed and then, the F/O hands off the yoke to the captain and captain lets go of the tiller and take over the whole thing.
