What an intriguing title, "Airport Lighting - You Must Know [ATC for You]!" It's fantastic to see content that delves into the specifics of airport operations, especially something as crucial as lighting. Airport lighting plays such a vital role in guiding pilots during takeoff and landing, and it's fascinating to learn more about how these systems work to ensure safety and efficiency in air travel. The inclusion of ATC (Air Traffic Control) in the title suggests a comprehensive look into how air traffic controllers and lighting systems work in harmony. It's great to see educational content like this that sheds light on the complexities of aviation! 🛫💡🌌
The ironic thing is this is what YT was supposed to support more of. It's sad more videos are incredibly shorter now because of TikTok and Snapchat. The new trends with "shorts" seems like it's taking off. But ngl, I enjoy this way more
Do you know of any existing automated software that can check these lights based of imaging? Or do all airports check if the light work manually by a person?
@@alexandrugeorge1573 There is a system called ALCS, “ airfield lighting control system”. The system also monitors all airfield lighting circuits. All the leading airfield lighting manufacturers have systems very similar to one another. These are the two I am most familiar with, ADB Airfields Solutions and Crouse-Hinds. There are more world wide. Airports still generally have inspections daily and nightly for compliance with FAA standards. The computer systems are a big help with other circuit monitoring such as Meg readings and supply equipment monitoring and provides alarm status to help with monitoring unmanned airports when uncontrolled.
@@HowardR999thanks for the comment. All in a days work. A very rewarding career to get into. It’s a lifetime of learning and a pleasure knowing it’s a safe place for the #1 most important folks, the passengers, the pilots.
I did airfield design engineering 30 years ago - these videos are great! Of course much has changed in the years since. You’ve done a really good job of explaining each topic.
This is nice to know, despite living in a capital city where it's international airport only has daytime flights cause we don't have airport lights to support nighttime takeoffs and landing.
Awesome vid, learned a lot …….I love the airport and watching planes take off and land, always wondered what each light meant and what they were for when it comes to helping planes taking off and landing etc…. Thanks. 😎✌🏾👊🏾
A detailed and so well explained video for ATC and Pilots to learn the light systems in flight simulator games either in real life Pilots!! Keep up the amazing work!!
At Boston Logan, I’ve noticed a new style of runway lights in the last few years. I’m not sure what they’re called but when an aircraft is taking off or landing on an intersecting runway, red lights will illuminate on the runway surface. It’s really interesting, I’m not sure exactly how it operates and I’ve only noticed it recently
Thanks to you, after watching this, I now know that the custom airport lighting that I put in my city in City Skylines a while ago is so wrong. Wish I found this when I built it that time lol.
24 hours ago I watched a video from TheFlightChannel about a Russian air disaster due to a failure in marking the runway as occupied through the lightings. Now I got this in my recommended
Just great! Try to remember all this ….l.and you still have to fly a plane! I guess it’s sort of intuitive. Red means stop green means go ….blue means there a sale in the housewares department.
Those narrow-banded blue ones trigger some sort of emotional response in me. Can't say just what emotion. Want to sit still and stare at them. This may be related to their being out of focus. The eyes are better at centering the focus on yellow and red lights, and not so good with blue. Just in the optics alone, leaving out the nervous system and the muscles, the focal point for blue light is not in the same place as that for the longer waves.
Thank you very much for the valuable explanation. Also, do you have a video about lighting transformers in airports that operate in a series system regulators ran at 6.6 amperes?

I spent nearly a lifetime maintaining all these lights and the equipment that powers them along with the controls. This is good stuff !

Ah, was that when they would just mow the grass in a straight line and the end of the runway was a haystack?
What a great video. I'm a former military pilot and current airline pilot and this video is excellent. Very useful for reference. Thank you!

It's good that much of the lighting can be understood by simple common sense.
Because it is a flow-control system and not an engineering piece with high-end maths.😊
