Sabriel Guindon well first of all you need to know the meta and what and when you should pick a hero..for example if you see that your team will be creating space..a hard late game carry like AM is the best in this type of game...now as a support..supporting is a little tricky..most of us think that a good support should be buying wards not getting any farm and dying instead of a core hero in the team...thats not the case, because you have to find those lvls and that farm in order to buy wards and have item and lvl progression.and the most important thing! ADAPT YOUR PLAYSTYLE! example: with earthshaker i go items like dagger->force staff->shivas->octarine->hex->greaves but against a pl the item build goes like this:arcane->dagger->force staff->Veil->agha->shivas or octarine depending on the situation of the other team members..bottom line.dont get sad if you lose a couple of games..you have to go down and then reach the top slow and steady
+rovaz i hope bernie sanders taxes dota pool prize. 1 million dollars is too much. I hope bernie taxes that pool prize at least 50%. I think dota 2 players will lead a happy life with 500 thousand dollars. Even if it is shared among a lot of players it is still more than earning the minimum wage.
I loved that line from Dendi's mom, where she mentioned that he was actually very patient and could just sit there for hours and fish. The irony that Dendi was often called out because of his impatience in games. It tells you how powerful of an impact his father had on him.

I shed a tear when i learned that Dendie's father died. Well actually severall but you get the point becouse if i lost my father i would probably die aswell.
This documentary is one of the most inspiring pieces of media i have ever seen. I live in an environment that is incredibly antagonistic towards gaming. My family looks down at me, I keep it as separate as i can from my social life and only my closest friends really know that i even enjoy playing games. This film has the potential to change everyones perception of gaming entirely, I really hope that it reaches people in my area (Perth, Australia) and changes the way people view 'us'. They shun, and disrespect 'us' and feel like they are better than us. What's worse is that for so long i had nothing to say to defend and justify myself. I stay inside and play games in my free time, i play games at night while my family sits at the other end of the house and every time they see me playing a game they go quiet and leave. The point that the asian girl in the film about how once the gamers today grow up and have children and support them and their hobby rather than shun them and try and prevent it like my parents and so many others did, then we will start to see a change in perception towards gaming. :)
Well you have to brake common misconception and show them why you like it. You shouldn't let anyone look down at you and there is absolutely no reason to hide fact that you enjoy and who know hows many of your friends play games because you feel ashamed you hide it and then you give them reason to disrespect you. So stand your ground and show them there is northing wrong with it. I don't see people disrespect chess players that committed their life to the game.
I think I have watched this video for more than 10 times, but for real, I never get bored on it. I literally learn something from this video to work hard and never give up on your passion, even if you don't get anything in the end. I'm not a professional gamer, I'm just a casual gamer who has a job everyday. I will achieve my goals, whatever it takes.
***** Lmfao even if you're gaining 25 mmr a day (the average for 1 won match) just 1 year, playing only 250 days in that year, you could have the highest mmr in the world even IF you only started at 2,000 mmr (which is SHIT by the way).

Simply amazing. To those who are complaining that this is just a commercial for DOTA 2, you clearly didn't watch it properly. This video highlights the struggles of pro gamers and shows how E Sports as a whole has grew massively. Yeah the game that's used to show these issues and accomplishments is DOTA, but why shouldn't it be? It's made by Valve!
This isn't aimed at any one in particular, there's just a lot of negative comments for strange reasons. Sure it's advertising DOTA, but that isn't the main focus of the film :D

As a Singaporean male in his late 20s, I completely relate to hyhy's story. Our parents went through a really hard life and believed that studies were the only way out for a better life. They saw that doctors and lawyers were the only ones doing well and naturally, doing anything else was a waste of time. Can't blame them for having this mindset and lets hope that we will be more open-minded to the opportunities future generations have
I'd say that most asian parents, loving that they are, are also quite grounded in the realities of life. And the reality is that at times, playing a safe bet is better than going after that impossible dream. And yes the Internationals, with its fame and prestige is a huge gamble for Scythe and very much a dream that is too good to be true - and in the end that dream swallowed Scyhe along with all the rest, and Navi are the only ones able to live the dream of becoming the champions.

@@Dolfinius Whoa, it's nice to hear from Hyhy again after all this time. Funny, though, I feel like he's at the best of both worlds despite not completely excelling in either. He didn't win TI or the like, but he had proven there's some merit in gaming after his 'blind' leap of faith.
This is just perfect. A life story. The best thing I best documentary I have ever seen and... I just love it. Everything is so perfect. The soundtrack is amazing.
"Danil has the same control and patience of his father." But at the beginning of the video teammates are quoted on Dendi tending to overextend and become impatient. Not pointing out any flaw, but pointing out how different family sees a person compared to a fellow gamer. Gaming unleashes a new beast in someone. That's passion. Incredible piece of documentary from top to bottom.
Yeah it was pointed out that Dendi is impatient but on his last battle against EHome where he is forced to pick Enigma, he learns that it's his flaws so he became very patient and just wait for a perfect ulti. And that's how they won the game.
I've never played DOTA, or even watched anyone else play it, but this documentary is a great insight in to not only the game but the life of professional players (and gamers in general) and actually pretty inspiring, to get you to push for your passions and not give up even if you get knocked down along the way. Better that 90% of the dross that comes out these days!
So much nostalgia watching this again after so many years. I still remember when i didnt have a pc and i was so hyped to plat dota, i would go to the local internet cafe everyday after class and think about dota day and night. Now im fortunate i have a pc and intenet to play whenever i want to
Same as your story so hyped to play but i too dint had pc back days. Finally i got my own pc and all was fun. Then the reality struck now i have a job and i cannot play my dota anymore. But always i watch international and dota watafak every week. I miss my childhood dota
Hardcore league player, hardcore pro scene of league follower, but still have mad respect for all these people. No matter your game, to have the skill, dedication, and guts to go for something like this is one of the most respectable things in the community nowadays and I have so much respect for all who pave way into this community!!
Exactly, I think LoL is NEEDED to help the esport scene. Especially for PC gaming. It gives younger players and more inexperienced gamers a chance to get into esports.
I have played at most 5 or 6 hours of DoTA in my entire life, despite my brother-in-law's best tries to get me into it (He has 500-600 hours as of this post and is only slowed down by his job). However, he recommended that I watch this documentary, and I can not honestly say that I have ever been more into a documentary in my whole life. Valve did a great job explaining the game enough so if you have at least a basic knowledge of the game you can totally follow it. It was inspiring, and while I am still fairly certain that I won't play DoTA much more I will try and play other games more competitively. This is also really inspiring because, well, it shows that e-sports has come a long way. I personally detest all sports, yet I love videogames and those who play them professionally. There is just something uncanny about how scarily good some players are, and how you can always come up with a new strategy. A lot of other sports have very specific rules, and that's just the way you play. But in videogames you can always have a new brilliant idea, a new strategy that might just win you something big. Like $1,000,000.
@Gib Gibon You do realize most of the CIS pro players like Magical, Silent and Iceberg cite Dendi as their greatest inspiration? For me, that in itself, is extraordinary.
god i love valve. for no reason did they need to make this film, but they did + plus they put it on youtube for everyone to see for free.... absolutely incredible.
***** you really think the amount of money involved in making such a documentary will come back from in-game purchases? Movies/documentaries costs A LOT, if they wanted to advertise Dota they had better/cheaper ways. For once I think we can simply think they made it cause they like to and care :)
Margalus89 I'm pretty sure they made this film so that in 10 years when competetive gaming is commonplace there is some record saying dota 2 and valve started it all.
Benjamin Botwin nop, every true gamer knows for example Counter Strike and its scene at LANs and stuff, same with UT back when players had to bring their own computers to the tournament lolz.
What a wonderful journey so far. Gaming and eSports as a whole has created something absolutely breathtaking. Bringing so many passionate gamers together to make something incredible. Shame on you if you clicked on this video to make a comment comparing one game to another, because this video isn't about that. This video is about gamers who are dedicated to what they love, and how eSports have given them the opportunity to turn their love of the game into a lifestyle. I can only dream of one day being able to do the same with my passion for gaming, and if it was ever possible, then right now is the time. Thank you Valve for reminding me why I love this community so much.
and it gives us the non pro players to look forward to something big theres millions of players in league and in dota 2 those fans there could be next years champions. its some thing to strive for if you are a gamer or its some thing you just casually enjoy as a gamer something to look up to.
I watched this when this was originally released, and I was upset when Fear lost. Since then I drifted away from DOTA, and I was just browsing the internet recently and found out that Fear's team won the latest International with the LARGEST prize pool. I am so happy for that guy!
I miss the first day I launched Dota... Something about the way I looked everything changed... These videos meant so much to me. I just don't think it'll ever be the same, The players, The hype, The passion. Still play you Dota, But I miss the old you
"i dont really mind about the numbers, even if it just 1 or 2 i am happy. its not about the numbers, i think...."-dendi Surprisingly he was right, its about the revolutionary moment that change the world, e sport is now a way of life.
I finally know why dendi is God-like when playing invoker and Pudge Piano skills for those Invoker combos, and fishing skills for those oh so sexy Pudge hooks
This is a truly mindblowing movie. A portrait of dedicated people that justifies the true passion for an outstanding game like Dota! Thank you Valve!!!
Wow all those feels about the Dendi story. Never followed DOTA that much (although I played it like 8 years ago via Hamachi). GREAT documentary. A must watch for every esports or gaming enthusiast! :)
wow!simply brilliant. I never knew how much went into being an online gamer. Completely impressed me beyond words. Thanks for the uploading it. Kudos to all involved. Cheers.
Fear in 2013 before his teammates left him to join Secret, the wrist injury that put him into retirement and EG were a walking joke: "I mean, deep down inside, I know this career is going to work out for me in the end." 2015 he wins TI5.
Watching this after a 5 game losing streak really keeps you moving. You remember that with enough time and practice, it could be you grabbing that aegis at the end of TI as the crowd goes insane and fireworks shoot up everywhere. You have the chance, as slim as it may be, to win something this big and get credit for something you really like to do.
I started playing Dota because of this documentary, not because I wanted to become a pro but because their dedication motivated me to undertake the daunting task of learning this massive game, and I did. It took me about 300 hours to truly understand the game but I eventually did and played it for thousands of hours. I quit around 2017 but recently returned. The magic is still there.
still cried even on 2023... the story we cant tell everyone the feeling and the goosebumps to be a athlete and pro player.... going into LAN tournament, the atmosphere and audience, its so beautiful... thanks dota, even im not success here, u give me a great memories! long last dota, in the next i will teach my son how to play this game
For how old this video is it still hits home and inspires me to follow my dreams cause it’s easy to fall into the trap of living life and trying to be normal. Cause let’s be honest everyone judges you when you’re not going with the program. I like videos like this. So thank you.
I'm here in 2024 and I have to say, Dendi now hits different. I lost my dad in the pandemic... I know well the feeling. But he said something amazing: Something can knock you down but you need to learn to get up.
One of the best free YT movies out there, I really appreciate this, hats down to you folks! Edit: no thanks for the vive if y'all still do it, this is a pretty good movie for 2014
I don't even play the game anymore but I really want Team Secret to win again this year. With all the chaos and strife going on in the CIS region with some secret players being from Ukraine this could be a Cinderella story of them winning against literally all odds
***** Yep, I'm showing this in my English class (I teach at a Japanese university) today. Your average Japanese student doesn't even realize PC gaming is a "thing", so showing them this really blows their mind. :)
I made a commitment to watch Free to Play every year. Now, it's January 1, 2025 - here I am again still having goosebumps. Looking back how Dota helped me in life. BEST GAME EVER.
After watching all of the True Sights, still...this video will never gets old. This is where it started, where it begins. Truly a *MASTERPIECE* Good ol'days✨
Amazing job Valve, this is great documentary. I was fascinated with the lives of these guys, how they sacrifice for the pursuit of their passion, and even if they lose I respect their choices and the way they learn from their mistakes and become better version of themselves. I personally enjoyed it alot even if dont like MOBA games.
2022 anyone ? After watching True Sight TI10, I immediately returned here. THIS is the true True Sight, Valve! From the dream to the journey with the most realistic perspective is what makes this series, NOT the camera view on both sides like we get at TI10

whether it's an Ad or not doesn't matter... they focused on the players and not the development of the game or anything, im very impressed ! it makes the 3 players look so much more human with everyday problems! i feel the most sad for hyhy because he is from Asia where the parents are a lot more into studies and stuff.... I think that's why its taken more seriously there because you give up so much for that 1 choice... hope his folks go a little easy on him!
I feel so bad for Hy. You can see the typical strict Asian parent here. They put too much pressure on education that they don't even notice the positives. They just laugh at Hy.
yup....same like that here in south asia (nepal for me).... and every fucking where in asia really. wtf is with this studies obsession, and i wasnt even bad at studies was always top 10 percentile but my parents werent satisfied
Students today are in a box, afraid to go out of their comfort zones, afraid to become what they want to be because of the pressure of their parents to excel in studies. I would say that not all students today are destined to be great scholars. I believe this because I know that some are destined to be dancers, basketball players, race car drivers, or even professional gamers.
Asia was undeveloped and exploited just a while ago... It's not surprising that asian parents focus on study that much, as asians saw first hand the technical superiority from Europe and the US applied to domination and understood that this is what rules the world. It will take generations to let go this mentality.
Please no one bring the MOBA war here no one cares if you play LoL,DOTA,Smite, or InfiniteCrisis nobody cares which is your favourite time killer as long as you have fun so pls leave the comment section clean of hate thank you P.S. This movie is great
People saying this is just an ad for dota... Dota 2 has been playable for years now and they havent spend like any money advertising it, at least in the US. this is more about esports players than dota.
Irrelevant. At the end of the day Valve is still a business and have spent plenty of resources on DOTA. They're not going to spend a lot of time telling a story just for the heck of it.
if youre starting to play this game, start slow, dont play with a high leveled friend as you will get flamed for taking the team down(and also if he finds the game the players in the game will be his level so you wont stand a chance), when you start the game you will be playing with your leveled players, so theyre as noob as you are and there is no shame in admitting that. just be friendly and they will be friendly back and just dont lose your patience and youll be fine. glhf and enjoy -experienced player
Just play with friends and your team will not flame you, then if the other team is nice be friendly an do not start flaming on your own, if they are unfriendly just do not write back ANYTHING.
Mathieu Brelu-Brelu Interesting isn't it. Addiction is just the negative term for being able to focus an incredible amount of time on something. Passion is the more positive term of that idea. In a way, gaming is similar to a sport, but I would rather it be what it is..competitive gaming. Holds high risk and requires a lot of focus and passion to be getting somewhere in it. Especially when only a small amount of players can be successful.
dota was my childhood. ever since i was in 7th grade these pro players has been an inspiration for me. and one day when my time comes to become like them i wanna make sure that i get to inspire younger people how like they inspire me.

ParkPlayerGameplays This is not a documentary. It's an advert by a games company pretending to be a documentary.
onesong2001 *your opinion
"Danil has the same control and patience of his father."
But at the beginning of the video teammates are quoted on Dendi tending to overextend and become impatient.
Not pointing out any flaw, but pointing out how different family sees a person compared to a fellow gamer. Gaming unleashes a new beast in someone. That's passion.
Incredible piece of documentary from top to bottom.
Mom knows best.
Sound Like me In Terraria!
Dendi departs from Navi today. I hope new Dota2 fan will watch this, to know about a legend in our heart, the most popular player of Dota2.
@Gib Gibon and u got 0$
@Gib Gibon your pathetic Dendi is on of the OF and you have no place you to talk crap

Margalus89
I'm pretty sure they made this film so that in 10 years when competetive gaming is commonplace there is some record saying dota 2 and valve started it all.
Benjamin Botwin nop, every true gamer knows for example Counter Strike and its scene at LANs and stuff, same with UT back when players had to bring their own computers to the tournament lolz.
Margalus89 Both made by Valve, Gabe too good
MasterFish Valve didn't make CS nor UT/Dota back in the days if you refer to that. still I agree they're awesome

Once in a while I come back to this. The birth place of e-sports as we think of it today, and we were there.
Amazing☺️
Fear in 2013 before his teammates left him to join Secret, the wrist injury that put him into retirement and EG were a walking joke: "I mean, deep down inside, I know this career is going to work out for me in the end."
2015 he wins TI5.
oriaphyn and to think he is still plays well even with his wrist thing, OLD MAN FEARRRR
In a hundred years, E-sports will be the focus of all global entertainment and competition.
So true But ti kinda already is
if we even live long enough.
and if we do, energy will probably be outlawed due to how much we fucked up our world.
Old Murk-Eye We did not fuck up the world. The generation ignorant to global warning did.
Mangy.so
as ignorant to global warming, you mean the people who think it doesn't exist, right?
Old Murk-Eye Yeah, and the people that didn't know it existed in the first place.
+Joey Rather Even if I know that I will never be winning TI, I can at least take away that players far far better than me lose half the time as well.
The magic is still there.

whether it's an Ad or not doesn't matter... they focused on the players and not the development of the game or anything, im very impressed ! it makes the 3 players look so much more human with everyday problems! i feel the most sad for hyhy because he is from Asia where the parents are a lot more into studies and stuff.... I think that's why its taken more seriously there because you give up so much for that 1 choice... hope his folks go a little easy on him!
He essentially quit Dota, went to League, did alright there. But then he's retired and I think he went back to work
An Dang oh ! Thanks for the info !
An Dang
He's probably doing military service.
I feel so bad for Hy. You can see the typical strict Asian parent here. They put too much pressure on education that they don't even notice the positives. They just laugh at Hy.
that's right
yup....same like that here in south asia (nepal for me).... and every fucking where in asia really. wtf is with this studies obsession, and i wasnt even bad at studies was always top 10 percentile but my parents werent satisfied
The suicide rates in Asian countries, specificaly Japan, is HIGH. People get too much pressure, it is ridicilous!
After 10 years of TI I'm coming back to see its origin again, simply beautiful 😢

People saying this is just an ad for dota... Dota 2 has been playable for years now and they havent spend like any money advertising it, at least in the US. this is more about esports players than dota.
This video alone has almost a million views. You would have to be pretty stupid to not see it as a huge advertisement.
CrendorTheGreat this is far from enough
CrendorTheGreat yeah bcs when you do something amazing, you would like to keep it a secret and dont advertise it, right?
Irrelevant. At the end of the day Valve is still a business and have spent plenty of resources on DOTA. They're not going to spend a lot of time telling a story just for the heck of it.
CrendorTheGreat so all the money they spent into making hl2 and its great story makes it a bad game? Good logic mate.

I feel sad for HYHY but I always respect that man now cause he sacrifice time for one and unforgettable experience of his life. ❤️
if youre starting to play this game, start slow, dont play with a high leveled friend as you will get flamed for taking the team down(and also if he finds the game the players in the game will be his level so you wont stand a chance), when you start the game you will be playing with your leveled players, so theyre as noob as you are and there is no shame in admitting that. just be friendly and they will be friendly back and just dont lose your patience and youll be fine. glhf and enjoy

...They won't be friendly back. Dota community sucks. They will flame you regardless unfortunately. Some of them won't, but a lot will. Sad, but true.
Songwriter4God Same as other online games out there. First person shooters, mobas, rts, they are all the same..
Just play with friends and your team will not flame you, then if the other team is nice be friendly an do not start flaming on your own, if they are unfriendly just do not write back ANYTHING.
I've been playing for about two weeks now and am hoping to get a friend to start playing with me soon. What would consider a high level?
Got flamed for doing a single bad play. I ignored them and continued playing the game and actually won it.
"Dota is not just a game, It's a way of life."
Hey Dota is not a way of life if it is addiction is a way of life!
Kobe braynt PC gaming is way of life, not only one game.
Because news/television say soo
Mathieu Brelu-Brelu Interesting isn't it. Addiction is just the negative term for being able to focus an incredible amount of time on something. Passion is the more positive term of that idea. In a way, gaming is similar to a sport, but I would rather it be what it is..competitive gaming. Holds high risk and requires a lot of focus and passion to be getting somewhere in it. Especially when only a small amount of players can be successful.
where are u all gettin these stuff. r u all like a graduate of philosophy or somethin
