I'm not sure how true that is, actually? Everything varies a lot with region, dialect, etc.! While in Madagascar, virtually none of the locals I met knew what a "maki" was. But, some would know "komba" (a name for common black lemurs), "babakoto" (the Malagasy name for the indri), "gidro" (a name for several types of brown and bamboo lemurs), and others. I'd be curious if there really IS a single term that is commonly known by people throughout Madagascar, though! But, I currently question whether "maki" is truly as universal as we had previously thought.
The pet trade would generate illegal capture of this endangered animals leading to its downfall jusst becouse of human ego of owning the animal as a cute companion. They are fine were they naturally belong and that's not in somebody's house.
Not without decades of selective breeding. Like most primates Lemurs are highly sociable and would freak out not being able to interact with other lemurs.
As a wildlife photographer this brings tears to my eyes, witnessing a spectacular moment. The realization of people that not only us live in this world but there are others too Thanks Nat Geo for the video someday I'll be one of you guys.
Photography can be so powerful in its ability to share the stories of others, like these adorable lemurs. Thank you, Cyntany, for participating in the wildlife photography community as well!
Another aspect of eco-tourism that could be added is to enlist foreigners to do the manual work of restoring forest habitat. I personally would pay to do the hard work just to be in that environment.
Humans please, just try to not kill animals,go to abandoned forests with minimal wildlife and cut trees there,do anything possible just please save animals.

Did you know the Makis are one of over hundred species of lemurs in Madagascar?
Maki is actually the generic official word for lemur in Malagasy! So Indri are maki, Sifaka are maki, etc.

An admirable change of heart, wonderful preservation and caring for rare natural beauty!
The Anja community teaches us that when we recognize the lemurs and other animal friends as our equals, we can coexist and thrive together.
Don’t watch with captions. Turns an important issue into a laughing matter.

Lemurs diverged from our ancestors 79 million years ago. They're one of the closest related groups to us, only beaten by Tarsiers, Monkeys and Apes.
