Based on the comments, none of us are washing our brushes enough 😂
P.s. Shoutout to my boyfriend who used his fancy work camera to shoot my brush washing b roll 🙌🏼 He took his job very seriously 🥲❤️
I wash them once a week and I don't wear a lot of makeup
Queen Lisa shows us in this video that we can extend the life of our dry makeup by using good hygiene and clean tools all the time. If we think about the process of cleaning our brushes as part of the financial investment into some of the expensive palettes, we might not find it as much as a chore.
Also, by using the palettes longer, until they are out, we are reducing the amount of plastics we buy and have to throw away.

I recently got the Sigma brush drying tower and it is AMAZING. Takes up so little counter space and gets the job done! And the cats can’t mess with the brushes when they’re locked in that thing instead of laying flat somewhere 😂
Hi sir I am big fan of you greet work sir
Awesome. So great that he cares🤗🥰. But HEY! So I know your all about brow tips, different products, trying to find the #1 for your current look😉 So idk if you've tried this? Lol but I had one if those L'Oreal mascaras that are duel ended. With a white primer on one end!( See where I'm going?) Blk mascara on the other. Anyway my brows are there but not full. Like 1/2 maybe 2/3 of yours so... Yeah. I tried it! Lightly. Just the primer. I let it sit a min. Then took a spoolie with a cheap gel & powder in my color (grey/drkbrown) and wow. If you go slow( as you taught me) ❤️ plz try this Alex!! Work with a good product. Even a brow gel mascara thing...? Would work beautiful. It doesn't move! Adds a lil length. And can be used under multiple products!!!
“I just use the stuff that they wash ducks with..” lol 😂 but I know what she means 🦆
😂
The commercial came on before the video too 😂
dawn with the duck on the front LOL
alternatively, you can go somewhere like Marshall's or TJMaxx and buy a natural soap, I use an "African black soap" that they recommend for face that unscented and it was $3-4. Its made with charcoal & thats what makes it black.. It works amazingly well.
Same! I also use it to clarify my hair every now and then.
This hydrated skin + no makeup + white T-shirt + peach background is a whole vibe in itself. I’m trying not to be that subscriber who comments on every video but like I can’t help myself ☺️
Its the hair color too/ peach background 😅 i get it
As an Australian we are always reminded to save water so I always turn of my tap while soaping my brushes
Yes! 🇦🇺
Same, it was so unconfortable watching all the amount of water wasted
Right?? I’m from Chile and was literally in pain watching this!
As a Canadian, I also noticed when she didn't turn the water off xD
Same in Israel ❤
Hygien is so important, I swear even licensed makeupartists sometimes disregard it! It was the first and most important thing I learned in makeup school and I'm glad, especially during these times it's more important than ever
Oh dude I've heard the worst stories about makeup artists not sanitzing and using those same brushes on multiple people 😳 EW

😂🤣😂
Alexandra, you didn’t have to call me out like this 👁👄👁
😂😂😂😂😂
That’s it...I’m cleaning my brushes today
😂🙌🏼
Simple, informative, to the point, absolutely awesome!
Love your channel!
I usually wash my brushes after 1-2 uses. I don’t use makeup that much so I prefer to have them clean all the time. How about you guys?
Same, if i have time ill just wash them after using it
depends. when i use makeup more the whole week i wash it every 2-3 uses but when i don't actually use makeup that often i just wash once a week 😔
@@veryfruity3386 my sister once told me she hasn’t washed her brushes in years 😂😭 I was like OMG that’s beyond nasty. I don’t know how could anyone do that to their face 😣
👀 I realize that I'm hundreds of days late to the party! I just had to comment that y'all are my kinda clean make-up brush crew!! 😎🖌️✨
If I don't clean them right after, they're in an isolation cup not used again until they've cleaned up their act!😂 I wash my clothes, bod, dishes, face, teeth immediately, so I thought brushes & sponges were the same. 🤷🏽♀️ It helps to have had 3 Ipsy & 2 Boxy subs/month & ask for tools. Plus, those Rephr brushes = perfection!! 😎
So helpful. I've been looking for someone to show us how to care for our brushes. Thank you so much.
Hey Alex, love your hair so much! Looks so good on you! Omg I needed this! My brushes needs a good clean!🥰💘
Hey Alex!! I just discovered you like a week ago & I don't know how i got along without you, lol. I just click with your personality on so many levels. Thank you for helping us with some bomb ass looks. You fuckin' rock gurl. 💋
Why do I feel like this is you calling me out to wash my makeup brushes 😂
its the motivation for me✨
It IS a call out! Wash them!

COME ON DEVIN GET WITH ITTTT
@@AlexandraAnele lol so SOOO glad I watched this. I thought ( from a friend that went to beauty school!) That I had to use alcohol.🤔 So yeahs.much rather use "the stuff they use for ducks😉)much better option.
Hi! Really like your makeup videos in general. Nice short explanation of how to wash my dirty brushes. I don't have either of the matts/drying racks, but I managed using my palm, my fingers, and a folded towel to angle the brush heads up when drying. Will be on the look for that matt and drying rack, though! They look convenient af
The sibling resemblance has never been more apparent than in this thumbnail
😂 Even with the blue hair??
OMG! You're right!
Best brush cleaning tutorial ever! So simple. ☺️
Omg the mat and the rack rocks! Imma buyin rite now!! I use dawn. Good to know it is good. Thanks again for all of your great advice!!!
I have a silicone oven mitt that is exactly like what you use! Dollar Tree has them! Super easy to use.
I know this is an older video, but that’s exactly what I use too😅
They also have heat mats for hair tools that work just the same.
any time you upload a video, my day automatically gets better!!
hope your hand is doing better🥺❤️
This was a huge confirmation! 😅 I have the exact same routine (except i dry on paper towel) and was afraid I was doing it all wrong. Glad to know professionals do the same!
I'm so happy you made this video, when I look up how people clean their brushes the videos are really old and everyone is warning about how bad the techniques are, also some brands just don't put instructions for their cleaning products.
I mean I have NO idea if what I'm doing is bad or not...... but it works for me 😂
I do mine the exact same way girl!! I so want the sigma brush dryer now!! Lol!! Just wanted to also tell you that I love your videos, I so get the "big sister" vibe from you and I love it!! Also your hair color is 🔥🔥🔥!!!! Have a great Thursday!! 😊
thank you for the motivation! finally early😌🤍
The motivation i just needed thankyou sm🥺✨❤️
It's so relaxing to wash your brushes.
God, I wish I found it relaxing. Idk why my brain hates this task so much lmao
I find it therapeutic too. But sometimes my back ends up hurting lol
I find it extremely satisfying
I love those cleaning mats they real do make a huge difference, cuts cleaning time n half...I put ponytail bands on my bathroom cabinet knobs and bundle a bunch of clean brushes together and wrap the band around them to dry so the ferrule (where the glue attaches the handle to the brush) isn't holding water💛
No one's mentioned the Cinema Secrets Brush cleaner. It is my favourite thing. It melts the products off my brushes instantly and I swear it gets them cleaner than when I hand wash. Sometimes I need to handwash a brush 2 or 3 times just to get all the foundation off, but cinema secrets gets it done in one go.
About once a month I'll go and clean every brush by hand washing them, but in between, I find that cinema secrets is more than enough
For my nastiest brushes (e.g. the ones for creams and liquids, and the dense ones), i first use a cleansing oil that did not work on my face, and then i wash every brush with a bit of shampoo i also didn't really like on my hair. Good way to use up things that weren't good enough :) Also, i don't have a mat, but i have a a cheap tangle teezer wannabe, that works on my brushes with longer bristles (they are usually the nasty ones)
But i lately got into the habit of washing the 2-3 nasty brush daily, right after use. Otherwise, i would rarely start to wash all my brushes. At least my foundation brushes are clean every day :D
Love your channel 😍
Those brush cleaning mats are a godsend
The best 🙌🏼
Do I need one of those? Dang.
@@faeriesmak shopmissa has brush cleaning “eggs” for a $1
I ordered the Rivanli brush dry rack based off your video and thank you thank you thank you!!!!! Where has she been all my life 🙌🏻❤️😍
Unscented baby shampoo works really well too and is gentle on the brushes ☺️
I really like your content, just please try to use a bowl to try and save water especially at the beginning when the main purpose is to get them wet to use the soap or shampoo.
My skin is acne prone and it sucks, now that I have a good skincare routine and changed my diet my acne it's under control buuuut I've become a clean freak with my brushes and sponges 💀 I HAVE to wash my brushes after every use or I'm scared I'm gonna break out
Everything in the universe is giving me signals to stop just cleaning my brush with the Cristina Cuellar brush cleanser and actually *wash them* but I’m committed to ignoring the signals at least until Saturday.
😂😂😂
I support you.
I think I said this before but I really just loooove your videos because they so straight to the point and accurate. Love you ❤
“The stuff they wash ducks with..” I am dead😂😂. You’re so adorable 🌸
Not the same brand, but I have a washing mat like that. Sooo helpful! I love seeing all of the color come out of the brushes.
Love your videos ❤️
Thank you, maybe it wasn't for my request, but I asked for this video few weeks ago and you have no idea how happy I am to see this! ❤️ I will definitely buy the Sigma cleaning mat! I only used my hands and shampoo so far 😂
all your videos are perfection
I have been using Dawn dish soap and a strainer that I bought at a dollar store instead of a mat. Works wonderfully.
I like to double cleanse my brushes every other week or so - use an oil cleanser to break down any product so the soap can really do its work after ! Since the oil cleanser is designed to emulsify and rinse away theres no oily residue like with diy dish soap/ oil mixtures. Im sure ponds or any cream cleanser would work as a first step too !
I love you. You said the word “like” a lot😍😍
I use that mat. It’s wonderful
Alex: its not fancy
Also her: special cleaning pad (idk how 2 call it lol), drying rack, duck soap...
Sigma also has a combination drying rack/ cleaner. Like, the cleansing mat is wrapped around a tube you can comfortably hold (if you have small hands, you could probably put your whole hand inside), and then there are detachable drying loops/brackets on the top and the bottom. It is totally The Tits!
I went on a Sigma spree (I know) and got that, plus a kit with 3 different types of brush cleanser. Honestly, though, you can also use a clarifying shampoo, or even a regular one. I used to use clarifying or volumizing shampoos, because I don't want a bunch of extra moisturizers on my brushes.
If you have natural bristle brushes, or even synthetic ones that are kinda frizzy (looking at you, white-bristled Morphie brushes) you can also use a tiny bit of lightweight conditioner. You just have to rinse really well. That's what they taught us in beauty school, so of course, I'm being a snob and talking about professional hair products, here. But, as The 'Lexter said, you can use dish soap if you want. Whatever your budget/politics/availability are. The money for my Sigma stuff was a gift, otherwise I'd never have bought their products. They're amazing, but pretty pricey. You get what you pay for, right?
I want that drying rack so badly! I use the shop miss a brush cleaner. It's been a little disc, in a container and it works wonderfully.
I really like that sink mat. Rather ingenious, if you ask me.
Washing my brushes is one of the most therapeutic things, hands down!!! To dry mine, have a holder thingamabob that dries them upside down so the water doesn’t damage the handles.
I too find it therapeutic when I have to do them all at once. I make a big deal of it and inspect them for loose and bent hairs.
I have the sigma brush drying rack that holds them upside down. I absolutely love it! I use their cleaner too and a mat from eco-tools. I wash mine every weekend.
@@jacquelinekenknight9280 pre-COVID-19 I washed them weekly, but now I clean them every two weeks. Or if I did a lot of filming and/or Zoom meetings, then sooner. I love incorporating it into my “me time” 💕💕
@@teletubbiestunetwister9570 yessss! And it’s a great time to see if any need to be replaced. Or have an excuse to buy more! 😂😂
@@jacquelinekenknight9280 You have the tower? I’m thinking about getting it right now. 🤷♀️
girl the amount of times i’ve accidentally gotten black eyeshadow on my contour brush- sis don’t even ask me how
i need to make a routine to wash my brushes once a week or sum. i would do it tonight but i have somewhere to goooo ugh this is how the cycle starts
One of the things I love about your videos are your intros ... the fact that there is no intro!!! hahaha brilliant
I use that sigma brush drying tower that hangs the brushes upside down to dry and also holds and re-forms the bristles. I use their brush shampoo too, I prefer the Juno & co solid soap cleanser the best. I wash mine every weekend like clockwork.
That’s so cool about the cleaning mat. I’m an engineering major so I’m geeked. Totally gonna look into it 😅
Right???
Lisa Eldrige uses Baby shampoo. Works great too. And I pull over some brushes something out of mash (I don't know how you call them) so they keep the shape. They look like new with that.
Try using Zote bar soap. I buy the pink one. Its amazing for cleaning your brushes and sponges!!!
I have the sigma drying towers. Honestly, Alex they’re a game changer! Since I bought mine the difference in my brushes keeping their shape, drying faster, etc etc is unreal. Wait for their biggest sale and buy one or more. I’ve got the eye abs face and it’s worth every penny. I paid sale prices but went on to buy a couple more full price because I feel they’re well worth the money! I don’t have the cleaning Matt, I keep looking at it though but have another different brand one that works really well. But I do wonder if mine is a patch on the sigma one!
Watched this, immediately bought that makeup pad. Thanks Alex!
This couldn't have come at a better time 😅
I have a rectangular brush holder from Amazon where you can hang your brushes in upside down so that the water falls down. It does the work and is super affordable. Edit: Also when you used a brush I stick them in the other way.
Can you share the link of the one you purchased?
@@Andytheevien That's the one I have. You'll probably find it at the other Amazon sites too. www.amazon.de/CINEEN-Organizer-Kosmetik-Aufbewahrung-Pinselhalter/dp/B01LPKV4QC/ref=sr_1_7?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&dchild=1&keywords=brushholder&qid=1620654839&sr=8-7
When I wash my brushes I use a hair tie to loop around a couple brushes and then around the towel bar in my bathroom and it keeps them so the bristles are all pointing down and they all dry really nice.
I have used the duck soap before and it works fairly well, I have recently switched to using face wash (La Roche Posay Toleraine for oily skin in the blue bottle) and it takes so much less time and effort. I can’t confirm if this is good or bad for the brushes overall, but they look and feel brand new after and I have not had any negative issues with this method yet so I’m just gonna keep going with it.
Before covid when I was going to the office every day I did my makeup 5 days a week and had to deep clean my brushes at least once a week, usually on the weekend. I bought a brush mat about two years ago as well and I don't know how I ever lived without it! I know this is going to sound totally weird, but I wash my eyeshadow brushes with a shampoo/conditioner mix because I found that any dish detergent, although effective for cleaning, dried them out terribly. I use the Sigma brush cleaner for my face brushes. Elf also makes a really cheap daily brush cleaner just to get eyeshadow off a brush in between deep cleans, and I love it and use it often. 😉
Yooo this is a good reminder that I should clean mine tooo
I use conditioning dog organic shampoo or the Watkins art brush soap
(Keep the soap separate from your oil, acrylic, etc separate from face brushes soap)
Ferrule: the metal crimp that attaches bound & glued bristles to handles
Awe man I really need to clean mine like ASAP
YES! The Sigma mat is a must! I love mine! I use the Sigma liquid soap, cleanses well and leaves no residue. If I use dish soap, I dilute it a touch so it won't strip my natural bristle brushes, synthetics I don't worry about. I dry in the "Sigma Tower" (as I call it) and I love it.
While I'm here -- what's your take on Sigma brushes? I've never used one and I'm curious. Do you have any favorites? (Especially eye.)
Maker and owner of Rivanli is a friend of mine. I was one of the first people who ever bought it, might even be the very first who got it (I picked it from her house so I didn't need to wait for shipment). It's amazing and I love it so much. The Name of it was created by putting latters of her and her kids names together.
I don't use dish soap after it broke me out really badly. Like... painful cystic acne. It cleans so well because how it takes aparts oils but I really think it's risky for sensitive skin. I head good things about antiseptic soap bars and I believe it might be a better idea. Haven't try yet, I still use brush soap leftovers untill it will be done.
what is so crazy is that literally before i opened youtube and clicked on your video, i looked at my brushes (because my laptop was next to them) and i thought "ugh i need to clean my brushes " but i dont wanna do it XD haha lazy moments must come to an end, my clogged brushes are begging me to stop shoving product in them haha. love you girl! always looking forward to your uploads!!
How do you not get more views?? You're the best makeup youtuber out there??? Like???
((Seriously I appreciate how I can trust what you say about brands bc you dont do bs))
I use fragrance free soap bars to wash my hands. When I have a tiny sliver of soap left I put it into a an old face moisturizer jar I've saved. the soap slivers in there melt into a block of soap and that is my brush cleaner. I swirl the brushes in there and then use a small brush cleaning mat to get everything off and that's it.
Thanks for the amazing mentions💕✌🏼
Waiting til you get to 1mil 😍🤤
It seems a bit more costly but it does last a few months with regular use - the Clean Apothecary (beautylish) brush soap. I will use a lesser soap such as the beauty blender solid for synthetic bristles, but I only use Clean Apothecary for natural bristle brushes. I've also tried the olive / coconut oil + choice of liquid soap concoction for brushes in the past and I think the downfall is in the distribution. There's no way to really know if you are using the correct amounts of both, which may cause too much friction or drying with too much soap, or an oily residue with too much oil.
Yes I need to do this 😬i bought one of those cleaning pad things too.
Hi 👋 I was hoping you can do more lipstick lip contouring lip lining videos.
I just literally cleaned my concealer brush lol....I have the Sigma mat as well, its AWESOME 😃
I like to put hair conditioner on my old natural bristle brushes, they are serving me for years!
I love the Sigma Dry-n-shape towers! They have elastics on them that hold the bristles so that the brushes retain their shape. Best purchase ever! They have large and small versions.
Right? I love that. I think I need to get one 🤔
I put coconut oil first. Rinse that then wash with hand soap maybe twice. Then wash with a head&shoulders.
I find the oil very important to get the foundation and concealer off the foundation brush.
Alex that video w the window open was dope. Try doing it as much as possible is you can! You looked pretty affff
I'll try to take advantage of the sun whenever it's around now 🙌🏼
The stackable dryer I saw on Jen Luvs, she thought it was super!
Thanks Alex for the reminder, I am the worst at keeping my brushes clean, and going to order one of these dudes. Pillow cases, cell phones are also bacteria carriers, and I'm a little ocd on keeping those clean, gotta get he brushes into the link. I just wanted to tell you BoomX Beauty Beat is doing a tribute and following of You this week. Lora is a retired MUA and is from Canada. Gotta see ;)
Ever consider getting a UVC lightbox to clean makeup brushes? Specifically to sanitize between brush washes? I got one at Target. For actually washing brushes, I do a prewash with white vinegar diluted in a bowl of water. Then I rinse and refill the bowl with fresh water and add brush soap to remove the caked on stuff on the bristles. Then I rinse, squeeze out, and allow to dry. For cleaning makeup PRODUCTS (like eyeshadow palettes, pressed powders, etc), I use BeautySoClean's cosmetic sanitizing wipes. These wipes are better than *just* alcohol, since there's other additives in them that prevent the alcohol from drying the products out.
I use the Shop Miss A brush soap and it gets the job done.
Never seem to get my beauty blender clean enough. Does the mat have a section for that?
Okay I need that mat
I definitely needed this video lol
That Sigma mat looks great!
I just use Dawn dish soap. It cuts all the dirt and grease. In fact it's my all purpose soap....it also works on my night guard, prescription glasses and to wash my car.
Hey Alex ❤
Lot of love ❤
I'm allergic to duck cleaner...lol. I use baby shampoo and it works great. I should wash them now, but I'm lazy and doing things cuts into my nap time.
Thank you! I have no idea how they clean ducks but I think I get the idea?? How do you clean the sponges?
Since mask wearing started I have been washing my masks and my brushes with generic/store brand low % salicylic face wash and the mask-ne is now gone. Total game changer for me and cheaper!
Thank you and duh! I’ve got Inkey list Sal. Face wash me that might work great for the masks. 🙏
Please share how you clean your lip brushes 🙏🏻
I use to buy the beautyblender and shop miss a soap until i realized regular bar soap works just as well so I do that. I also wash after every use because believe it or not I can be quite lazy and if I wait any longer I worry it'll never get clean
I used to use shampoo on my brushed but know I just use a kinda cheap face cleansing gel and it works pretty well
Hey 👋 thanks for the video. I wash mine with baby shampoo. Works fine. Sometimes my brushes get pretty dry and scratchy so I use hair conditioner and leave it in for a little bit. That totally brings them back to life.
I do have one question. If you’re considered warm (undertone), are you supposed to wear warm make up? Or is only for the foundation.
I’ve duct taped my brushes to a wall or shelf so they drip dry 🤣
That's a whole commitment and I love it 😂
I'm not sure how to describe it, but there is a hair elastic on a towel bar trick too. You like wrap the elastic around the bar, and then tuck the brushes in. Wow, worst instructions ever. But it'll save you from peeling the paint off your wall with duct tape.
Wait?!? GREAT IDEA
