I am so glad I watched more than one video to clean my brushes! The last one I washed said use vinegar and I thought.....ERMAGERSH! WOULDN'T THAT SMELL BAD? Thanks so much!
I know your comment is old but i wanna point out: Vinegar vanishes in air. If you put a class of vinegar on your balcony, you can drink it after a few hours. It basically becomes tap water. So also the smell vanishes.😊
Not exactly, it’s “95% methylated spirit, 2.5% castor oil, 2% diethyl phthalate, and 0.5% methyl salicylate” which is comparable to our 70% isopropyl alcohol but not exactly it
I used to clean my brushes by just putting them in the sink! I thought it would help since they'd be soaking, but thank you for telling me! This looks like a great way to clean them and will definitely be doing it in the future! Love how the video is only 4 minutes long as well, very direct and to the point. Thanks!! X
okay so i definitely recommend this to everyone! i tried it with one of my wet and wild brushes that was really dirty from contouring, it worked flawlessly. my brush is now dried and better than ever. it looks and feels brand new! thank you, i’ll definitely be subscribing!
Lorena Zago finally! Someone agrees 😂 also I find baby shampoo is the only thing that won't make me break out. And it's a lot cheaper than the proper make up brush cleaners but works just as good 😊
I tried this yesterday and let them dry over night and I’m impressed! It works so well, will definitely be doing this every time my brushes need a wash
Thank you so much for showing me how to clean my brushes without having to go and buy a bunch of different cleaners and the boards and all that crap that I didn't want to have to spend the money on. I used exactly your trick and it worked!! It even took the stains out of my white brushes . So I very much appreciate your tips
Thanks for this. I am relatively new to makeup and hadn't cleaned my brushes yet. I did what you did. But instead shampoo I rubbed a natural bar soap on my palm. It seemed to work well. The brushes are drying right now. Thanks again.
I've always cleaned my brushes the same way with the soap and swirling it around on my hand. I use cheap baby shampoo from the dollar store or amazon, but I've never heard of using olive oil, I'll definitely try that. The folded towel is a really good idea too, I always struggled with finding a way to lay them at a slant to keep the water out of the ferrule. I bought an artist tool from amazon that holds them upside down, but the towel thing is free! Japonesque makes a brush cleaning spray that I love, because you can use it and then immediately use the brush, so it's great for quick cleans. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much for this incredibly helpful tutorial! I never thought of cleaning the handle, and now that I know I should, I'm definitely going to add that to my cleaning routine.
I have another idea..!!if you guys have gluegun ur rite in ur place..u need a exam pad and a glue gun...just do thick designs like acupuncture or like waves on the exam pad and let it dry...after that when u want to clean ur brushes jast wet ur exam pad and ur brush, add a shower gel or shampoo on the exam pad and rub ur brushes on it..and wash ur brush in water..that's it😊😊
Brilliant video! I used to just buy new brushes each year but now I`ve bought good quality brushes I want to look after them, tried this and couldn`t believe how much product was hidden in the bristles, they felt so different when clean, much softer. They are drying now so let`s see how they feel when I use tomorrow.
You have an editing skill of the gods, I rewatched that intro like 12 times and tried to figure out when you might've taken out the brushes but dang I couldn't find a single one
AHHH thank you so much!!! I literally had no idea how to clean my brushes, and I can’t believe how well this worked!! I used the brand nature’s orgánica, and it worked a dream 😍
So, I just cleaned my brushes like you instructed in this video . . . .I didn't realize what color some of my brush bristles were originally until now. Thank you for this awesome tutorial.
I clean my brushes with shampoo but instead on putting shampoo on my hand I use a big piece of Lego 😂 because the water can get hot 💕 this works so well
I laughed so hard over the lego hahahaha that's brilliant! The fact the lego has all the little dents in it as well would really help to clean the brush haha genius :D X
For some reason when I first watched this video I thought she put more makeup on her brushes for a more dramatic effect when she was cleaning them. Then I used this technique to clean my brushes AND THERE WAS SO MUCH MAKEUP EVERYWHERE. So glad I did this! Thanks for the video!
I was so shocked! I was skeptical at first but I did it and it took like a total of 3 minutes and it was so perfectly clean???? I had cleaned it before but it wouldn't come out, but this worked in like 1 minute??? thank you!
Thank you , this video really helped me cleaned my old brushes , they are clean now I used to put ( lucky enough I had that shampoo , I’m gonna see if I can get more ) them in a container with warm water and quite a few of them broke , I would balance them on the side
Thank you for your "right to the point" and informative video. I know this was posted quite a while ago, but had a question. I live in the USA. When you speak about surgical spirits, is this rubbing alcohol? Do you know? Thanks so much.
I'm thinking of buying something to help clean my foundation brushes. I have no problem with powder brushes, but it's really hard to get all the foundation out of those densely packed foundation brushes using my fingers. It takes a long time and it's a pain in the ass. I've realized that a natural, grease fighting dish detergent works best for foundation brushes but it's still a lot of digging into the bristles to get foundation out. After seeing how well a color switch works for getting powder out of bristles, I'm thinking there has to be something similar to use wet with foundation and cream brushes
I do the same thing. I thought I was weird that I spot clean after every use with alcohol. I do use a soap by BH Cosmetics and it does work fantastic. I get them on sale and one does last a very long time. So yes it’s more expensive then shampoo but it works great and you get tons of uses out if one so the price works out. I just don’t like using shampoo because it’s more messy (i is clumsy) and you constantly have to pick it up and tip it over. A solid soap you can have sit on the counter and swirl your brushes around in it. Again I’m clumsy and it’s just an added bonus that I can avoid making a mess
Thank you so much, I just did the same with a light coconut shampoo that I had and wasn’t good for my hair but I kept it. Now it’s my favorite brushes shampoo :)
I think shampoo could be an alternative to Brush soap, but the Spiritus, which is a kind of alcohol, dries them out and brushes need to be kept Smooth. In addition, in Brush soap are some additives that maintain brushes. That's why I would not use anything different for Cleaning.
the wasboard and olive oil technique is very smart i'm definitely going to was my brushes like this from now on. I still have stains on my foundation brush that I thought that I could never ger out. This was very smart thank you so much for the video!
+Eimear McElheron no problem! Thanks for the reply! i'm definitely going to try that trick over the weekend. I dont usually comment much on videos cuz I get shy. But im very happy you replied!
Hi! One thing I wanted to mention is that after cleaning, that the hairs should be re-shaped and then laid on the towel. I place the brushes on the edge of my counter, so that the air can flow all around while drying, typically over night. You mentioned surgical spirits in the cleaning process. Is that the same as rubbing or isopropyl alcohol here in the states?
Thank you for the tutorial, I washed my brushes and I was so happy with the results I washed my Mum's as well. I had no idea the tips of my brushes were white!
When washing my brushes I used to put them in a warm soapy basin submerging the brushes under the soapy water. Then I saw a UA-cam video on how to clean makeup brushes with a bar of soap by wetting the soap and the brush head simply rub the brush on the bar of soap I have in a soap dish then place the head of the brush in a basin of warm water if you are cleaning lots of brushes remember to change your water after every couple of brushes. I find this way very quick and if you want extra protection I use a detol soap there is no smell after.
I have three nice Kabuki brushes that I have never used. They are sitting out on my dresser so they are dusty. Would you clean them and use them or just throw them out?
Do you recommend the sigma 3DHD kabuki? I own the 3DHD precision brush but I've been looking for a new foundation brush and I've been going back and forth between the F80 and the 3DHD kabuki 😜
i use my face cleaner/makeup remover the neutrogena one with the blue bottle white top to clean my brushes it cuts the grease and germs of makeup and makes my brushes brand spanking new
The shampoo you used is the one my boyfriend uses and this being the first video I clicked on it must be fate haha ;P Cheers the video was great and really helpful :) ❤
I do wash my brushes but i never thought of using oil for it. I used it today and there was so much crap inside god knows from how long ago i washed them but obviously never properly enough i will use this method more often. Is it not bad fr environment though? Maybe some idea how to dispose of the oil after the washing ?

I just watched that and thought the same thing
I just watched that one. Poor girl probably wonders why her brushes don’t last
@@mikasablackerman6776 why would they not last long? Vinegar is good for hair and makes them soft?
*This video ACTUALLY DOES IT RIGHT. So many videos about cleaning brushes have it wrong. Great job!*
Me and my american self had to look up what surgical spirits were. Here in 'murica it's rubbing alcohol lol.
Lola Ma THANK YOU! I would have needed to look it up too!
Not exactly, it’s “95% methylated spirit, 2.5% castor oil, 2% diethyl phthalate, and 0.5% methyl salicylate” which is comparable to our 70% isopropyl alcohol but not exactly it
SAME lol
Yeah same never heard of surgical spirits except in from UK 😆
I was like, let me scroll down and see what is surgical spirits.
LOVE HER ACCENT SO MUCH

So, I just cleaned my mother's brushes for the first time in like 10 YEARS and in 1 of the brushes turned the fricking white shampoo into bright pink!
Maltese Girl that disgusting lol
Wait! But can anyone use same brush for 10 years ?
Sameee but not 10 year maybe like 5 years lmao 🤣🤣
She needs new brushes cleaning them won't due..lol
guys she doesnt use make up that much ahaha thats why
I always use baby shampoo on my brushes because it is very soft in the bristles so you may want to try that. ❤️
same, it is very gentle on the bristles and smells super nice!
Lorena Zago finally! Someone agrees 😂 also I find baby shampoo is the only thing that won't make me break out. And it's a lot cheaper than the proper make up brush cleaners but works just as good 😊
Can I use Johnson baby shampoo?
Aafreen Aahil yes
Hairstyles By Emma me too, it's so much better than if you buy soap that's meant for cleaning your brushes, it's so much cheaper as well 😊
I tried this yesterday and let them dry over night and I’m impressed! It works so well, will definitely be doing this every time my brushes need a wash
Excellent: short, informative, thorough and all with an awesome accent! Thank you!
This is probably the quickest and easiest way to clean and was so informative and you didn’t make me feel broke!! hahaha love it
Surgical spirits sounds much more fun than rubbing alcohol. Thanks for the tips!

Same. I also wash my paint brushes the same way

What is spot cleaning?
So simple! I was wasting money buying extra tools and soaps.
This simple method totally works! Thanks!!!
Hi there! I am new to makeup, are you using cold, hot or warm water?
im sure she is using warm and or cold. im pretty sure hot water is bad for the bristles, hope this helped in a way :D
+Ruby Sapphire Thanks for the help!
It's Vegan Now I'm 3 months late but better to use warm water because cold water won't really get rid of the bacteria.
"warm" water won't get rid of bacteria. Warmth helps bacteria grow. Boiling water is what kills bacteria lol.
Thank you so much, I just did the same with a light coconut shampoo that I had and wasn’t good for my hair but I kept it. Now it’s my favorite brushes shampoo :)
This videos is so soothing for some reason
You can spot clean your brushes with baby wipes as well. They are oil based and gentle and will get the job done!
I just did what you did in the video and I'm just waiting for it to dry, excited to see the results! Thank you!!!
Thank you, I just used the olive oil w/ baby shampoo & it worked great. 🖌
Thank you so much for this wonderful video! We just cleaned it today and now all our brushes are clean!
I just started using makeup brushes and was gonna do what she initially said not to do. Thanks!
Just cleaned my brushes. Don't really used them but decided to look for a video to clean them as they have been down for a while and I found you.
Brilliant! So simple and the use of surgical spirit is excellent! Could you also use hydrogen peroxide?
Literally the best "how to clean your makeup brushes" video on UA-cam👍🏻
I think shampoo could be an alternative to Brush soap, but the Spiritus, which is a kind of alcohol, dries them out and brushes need to be kept Smooth.
In addition, in Brush soap are some additives that maintain brushes. That's why I would not use anything different for Cleaning.
I have a makeup student, and i was looking for a great tutorial for her, this was perfect! Wow, there were some really bad options out there!
Can we use any shampoo?
Also this was really helpful
Thx you
Very helpful. I used this and all my brushes are looking and feeling new! Thanks for the tips! :)
Can you use any shampoo?
I had almost given up on my white brushes, thank you... this is brilliant!
Hi, I just tried your technique with the shampoo! Worked like a charm. Im just letting my make up brush air dry now
Thank you soo much 😊
the wasboard and olive oil technique is very smart i'm definitely going to was my brushes like this from now on. I still have stains on my foundation brush that I thought that I could never ger out. This was very smart thank you so much for the video!
Yeah I find the oil very handy for getting rid of stubborn stains! Thanks a million for watching, glad it was helpful :) x

Works really well! My brushes smelt so good after this. Totally recommend washing brushes this way!👍👌🏼
Thank you for this video :) I cleaned mine the same way and I also did my blender with dishsoap and olive oil 👍
I live in South America - can you (or anyone) please tell me what is surgical spirit? Thanks, LOVE the video.
Beverley Caddigan rubbing alcohol i think
Thanks! Our English can be so different :)
Ha! I had the Same question!
Beverley Caddigan Thank you. I'm in the US and I was also wondering about this.
Isopropyl alcohol. It comes in 80%, 91%, 96%, 100% concentration.
Omg thank u! I’ve been looking for a cheap way to clean my brushes! This video was soooo helpful!!! 😁👏🏻👍🏻
I tried this method and it worked amazing on my brushes!

Really good video, thank you! I use baby shampoo is that okay? X
Thanks very much :) You can of course, baby shampoo is extremely gentle as well! X
Why must we use a brush to apply compact powder instead of using the sponge given?
I have three nice Kabuki brushes that I have never used. They are sitting out on my dresser so they are dusty. Would you clean them and use them or just throw them out?
Thank you! First time cleaning my brushes (eyeshadow only I don’t wear any face makeup) for a very long time- this did just the trick!
i saw in other vids that they put coconut/olive oil with the shampoo. do you need to do this everytime in all brushes?

Does this work with beauty blenders as well?
I use mild body wash or baby shampoo to clean it, you can also add few drops of makeup remover.
