Yeah, Izhmash. I own 2 AKs made by them and love them (I have a couple vids of one on my channel). The G in front threw me off. My Russian is still weak, but my wife is Slavic and speaks Russian so I am trying to learn lol.
You are right, now they don't, but back in Soviet times they did. I have an AKS-74U that was made by Tula in 1986. That is the point of this video. Larry has an AK-74 made in Tula.
this ak74 is the only Ak i like. the wood looks beautiful, no plastic shit, and a bakelite mag. classic Afghanistan Soviet invasion look. wish I could trade my AR for one
Jokeasterfe It would do the trick, but it won’t have that “autentical” feel this rifle right here performs I’m craving to get my 🖐🏻🤚🏻 in 1 of these too!!
Plastic is a shit you say? Well i can tell you why later wooden and metal stock was changed to plastic. In Afghanistan war metal stock was big problem for soviet soldiers yes its a folding stock but in a high weather temperature metal stock was so hot that it could burn soldier hands. With wooden stock was another problem is varnish coat which in high weather temperature was sticky as hell so soldiers just removed varnish from wood with knives. Thats why now all modern Ak have plastick folding stock.
That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Proud owner of two AKS-74's.. Like you, I am complete AK fanatic so I truly appreciate the rarity of this rifle. Thank you so much for sharing Mr. Vickers.

I really appreciate that you take the time to showcase some unique collector's pieces like this. Not just a rare AK-74 in the US, but in the entire world. Thanks for taking the time to cover what a lot of casual shooter videos don't. It's cool to see the very early/first production AK-74 features like the 45-degree gas block. Up until seeing this, there were really only even a handful of old grainy images of this particular AK-74 production run available around the web.
Coming from researching Tula from the 22 my dad handed down to me, I had no idea they made AK platform firearms and this is a beautiful example of the AK platform, especially how well treated the wood looks
Ammo is too expensive for full auto! ahaha but if price on ammo got better I'd be for it (: The fun switch is something to experience if you've never tried it
Hes chillin with Putin right now! They're best buds it seems lol. Russia wants to sell AK's after they pretty much branded Kalahnikov as a thing, Idk if its connected directly with the AK-100 series though so we might now see "military" models. I do remember hearing a crap ton of AK74's are getting replaced somewhere & the leftover assets might get broken down into parts & shipped over here so if we don't get straight imports maybe parts kits.
LARRY I AM OVERDUE TO TELL U HOW MUCH I APPRECIATE YOUR WORK. NOT ONLY ARE THE TOPICS EXCELLENT BUT YOUR WAY OF PRESENTING THEM HAS ALL OTHER UA-cam GUN VIDEOS BEAT. YOU GET RIGHT TO THE POINT. Это не просто обычный калаш - это ак-74 тульской сборки, коих очень мало. Тула выпускала ак-74 в течение короткого периода и вскоре после перехода на его производство начала делать уже аксу-74 вместо ак-74
Yes but there's nothing wrong with it. It's just flexing as it fires. Totally normal and doesn't actually damage the gun nor affect the accuracy, even the original AK did it.
A friend of mine has a Polish Tantral version of tbe AK74, he bought it new in 1981. To this day it has never been fired. He bought it as an investment back then.
You should do a review of Asian guns like the Howa Type 64/89, Daewoo K1/K2, STK Ultimax 100 and STK SAR 21! Also, the newer European rifles such as G36, L85, FAMAS, AUG and F2000 would be great to review too.
both Howas tht mentioned by you is pretty much impossible due to Japan's strict policy on their own military hardware tht's strictly for their own use and was forbid from export, so beside an airsoft replica there's no way you could get a real functioning one outside of Japan
Hello Larry. I have a Bulgarian AK-74, and it's also great. Your Tula is beautiful and I know it's a great experience for you to fire the Tula AK-74. Great trigger control Larry. I love that strong positive ejection of the spent rounds on the AK Series of Rifles.
We are debating starting to shoot the videos in 60p, currently the crew shoots in 24p because of their film background, we'll try it out in the future.
4k 60fps would be fantastic. More and more people have access to 4k and it scales down wonderfully. So those with lower resolution monitors. Just select the lower setting. Most half way modern equipment can do 4k these days. Heck, some phones can do 4k.

Hey Larry, could you do a video comparing the bone/flesh (ballistics gel and bone) damage produced by the most used calibers worldwide? (9mm, .45, 5.56 and 7,62)... i think it would be awesome to watch with your crews filming equipment, and we would learn a lot. Greetings from Argentina
Awesome video! I have a Bulgarian semi auto '74 I built from a parts kit many years back, and it's one of my favorites! Looks just like the one in your video except has plum synthetic furniture....
I'm guessing this AK-74, being made in 1981 came into the US as a "dealers sample", meaning only a Class III dealer could actually own it. The import of full autos transferrable to civilians was cut off by the Gun Control Act of 1968 ( and domestic production in 1986 by the "Hughes Amendment"). I guess my question is now is this a pre-1986 or a post-1986 dealers sample? The only way it could be "transferrable" is if it was imported as a torch-cut "parts kit" and remade and registered prior to 1986.

There was no "soviet invasion". The Afghan government asked for military help against drug warlords and US funded jihadists.

Night and day difference in recoil going from the 7.62x39 AK to the 5.45x39 AK-74. Rapid firing 5.45 is sooo much more easier to keep on target.
