PO-33 is such a powerful little thing. That jam on the video sounds awesome! The more videos I watch about PO-33 the more I want to get a new friend for my PO-128...
Amazing Tutorial! Very smart way of using the 4 voices. I saw another guy record his kicks and snares together with high hats and crashes to save up space and fill up the sound.
Cool. Something similar I have done for chords is to 1) sample a chord into a melodic slot, 2) copy it into one drum of a drum bank, and 3) repeat. I end up with a drum kit full of chords. You lose the ability to play them on a scale easily. Not that useful a lot of the time anyway -- a lot of music doesn't call a scale of the major triad. You pay sample memory for each chord sampled. I usually only need 3-5 anyway. There may be some other minor downsides, but, now all your chords use only 1 of the 4 possible simultaneous voices, and they automatically won't play over each other because they're all in the same drum bank. It also makes it easier to use more different kinds of chords. You have 8 melodic samples to fill, which is also enough for 3-5 chords, but then you have to change "sound" to change chords. Having a drum kit "pallet of chords" can make them nice to lay out in the sequencer. It's cool that on such a tiny, limited device you still have multiple ways of doing things with tradeoffs to consider.
Yeah I've sampled like that quite a bit in the past as well, the only thing I don't like about doing it that way is it winds up eating up a lot of sampling time, depending on how long your chords are anyway haha. Thanks for watching!
You can also sample a major 3rd in one slot and a minor 3rd in another. Chords will take up 2 of 4 polyphony, but you'll be able to put together a lot of delicious chords.
Wow. Seems so obvious when you put it out there but I had not thought about how the chords would play out in the melodic slots. Thanks for the knowledge!
Absolutely! It winds up using two of your eight melodic slots, but it only winds up using one of your four notes of polyphony, which I think is a far more precious resource on the po-33.
Id love to see more videos about the Volca Keys. I picked up one awhile ago as my first synth and am having a hard time getting it. Great video as always
Nice video, learned everything I wanted to know in the first 30 seconds. Last dedicated sampler I bought was that first casio, this will be the next, same price.
This was very helpful! Now I just have to figure out how to make something on my PO33 that doesn‘t sound like chip tune 😂 that‘s where I always gravitate with the PO33! Funny how that happens with certain devices.
Another nice job! I don’t have the KO but sample into Koala and Blease Sampler, (both IOS) I haven’t gotten the 33 just because I have 4 PO’s already and I feel with those two sample apps, I’ve got it covered. Unless you can convince me otherwise! Lol
Here I was watching you set up to sample the unison mode and getting worked up because you weren't touching that detune knob. Then you touched the detune knob, and I was happy. lol
I think this is me just being clueless about music theory, but what actually happens when you sample a chord into the melodic bank and then hit a number key other than 5? Does it become a new chord? Does it always sound good?
Such an underrated little sampler. You really make it shine by using the limitations.
Thanks so much!

The PO-128 would go really well with the 33 or 133, you should totally give the combination a shot. Thanks for watching!

Could be handy to set up the same set and layout of chords you get on the PO-20, for sync wassumness. 🤔
@@zooblestyx I'll have to try that.
@@joeeverton7019 Yeah me too ☺

Yeah that's a good strategy too, I just don't like using up half of the polyphony with chords haha.
Love your use of knob A as pitch bend!
Thanks for sharing this! I'd say that the PO-33 is like THE best piece of gear I own!
It's definitely a powerful one!
Thanks for this video! It’s cool to see how you use it and get some ideas.
Thanks so much!
Great video. Had no idea you could trim how long a sound plays!

Thanks for watching!
Very helpful! I’m so happy I found your channel while looking for KO tutorials!
Glad it was helpful!
You got a new PO33!!! I remember you had one that had a broken display!!
Yep, a mysterious stranger was kind enough to send me a new one!
Very nice and easy to follow.
Thanks so much!
Nice workflow
Thanks for watching!

Same here! :)
No problem, more on the way! I have quite a few more on the channel already too, be sure to check those out :)
There you go, I watched it twice to help out with your ‘favour’ for the week. I’ll make use of it as well for fun. Cheers. Lee
Haha thanks, I appreciate it!
Wow, you made that look so easy. I have to try that with my megaman to po-33
Thanks so much, have fun!
Thank you. I have the PO33 and just got the Volca Bass. Feel free to make videos on those couple ^_^
Sadly I don't have the Volca Bass yet. Thanks for watching!
Nice one! I tend to use the drum slots for chords and then adjust the pitch if needed, but I need to try this workflow 👾
Thanks for watching!
Nice video, learned everything I wanted to know in the first 30 seconds. Last dedicated sampler I bought was that first casio, this will be the next, same price.
Awesome, thanks so much for watching!
Man U make it look so easy
Just takes a little practice :)
Great stuff!😀👍
Thanks so much!
Makes me want to go play Shadowrunner love it
Ohh, nice to see you received another one :D
What a great idea! Nice video ✌
Thanks so much!

I've definitely found that to be the case, certain devices just make certain genres to certain folks hahaha. Thanks for watching as always!
oh man you dont have to copy the sound around trimming it differently to have different length notes. THANKYOU
Haha nope, the PO-33 makes it easy!
I'd like to see you sample some sounds from the Casio VL-Tone VL-1 with the PO-33 and do a jam. Seems like they would be great together.
Great video
🙌KO

But don't you want your entire setup to match? 😁😂
Not for another Benjamin, lol

Oh yeah haha, gotta fatten it up!
Going to try this, but Volca bass or fm...the keys is on the list:)
Thanks for watching!
Neat basics.
Thx for sharing 🙂 See you
Thanks for watching!
I think this is me just being clueless about music theory, but what actually happens when you sample a chord into the melodic bank and then hit a number key other than 5? Does it become a new chord? Does it always sound good?
It will transpose the chord. Whether it sounds good or not is completely subjective :) Thanks for watching!
Does the PO 33 want a Stereo or Mono input signal?
It can take either, but it will output mono. Thanks for watching!
Does anyone knows how to connect a Pocket operator to Macbook? ive been trying with several cables and adaptors but nothing seems to work :(
I would recommend using an audio interface :)
