It can't even be poor hit detection because he's literally making 100% contact with 2 hammers. Unless there's some sort of glitch where you have a split second after Bowser throws them that they won't hurt you. That's the only thing I can think of.

there's too many objects on the screen and the game doesn't want to lag so it doesn't assign hitboxes to some of the hammers. keep in mind this is a game from 1985

Are the times independently checked by anyone? By that I mean on a game like this where the times are now separated by tenths of a second being a fraction early or late hitting the foot pedal, if that's what they use could make a big difference to where their time is ranked.
It’s a bit complicated, but no. No matter where you touch the flagpole, the flag has to come all the way down. It’s actually faster to touch the top, but that’s a bit complicated. I can explain if you want
I'm sorry but he's got some kind of cheat code going, he hit multiple plants, a couple of flame propellers and jumped right through a bunch of bowser's hammers there at the end... I'm callin' bogus and shenanigans
Nope, this game's hitboxes are just that poorly coded and have been all these years. Plants only hurt them if you touch the lower half, fire bars have really tiny hitboxes and hammer hitboxes hang off the top left of them and even then if there are a lot of hammers on screen they can just stop working altogether

The runs are retimed using frame counting and Bowser patterns so they can be as accurate as possible
