A good over-watering sign to look for, before the leaves turn yellow or curl, is water dripping from the leaves, known as transpiration. If a pot has few drainage holes, I recommend putting a layer of rocks in the bottom first. Small-medium sized rocks (bigger than that gravel you mixed into your soil). In addition to helping water drain out, the rocks also help keep the soil in. You'll find a good layer of rocks in just about all of my potted plants.
If your monstera deliciosa's leaves are drooping/curling/yellowing, these are all signs of stress but to identify the cause you need to do some investigating and look into the past to find the cause. Overwatering, underwatering and too much light too fast are common causes. 💚💚
Repotting will stress it as well? Mine was doing fune until I repotted it 2 weeks ago and the bottom leaves have been yellowing. The roots were fine when I repotted it. I hope it is just stress.
Thx. I just got my new monstera and looks like yours. Your video is helpful for people who got new monsteras. Most the others on youtube have mature older monsteras.
Great video! I have 4 Monsteras and in my limited experience, their leaves can become drooping when their roots don't get to dry out enough (and lack of sunlight). The roots like to stay dry. I tend to water less (once a week) but with higher volumes. They also seem to light some air movement as the leaves get very strong when they are by a vent.
I have two monsteras. Both are on the exact same shelf, receive basically the same sunlight, watering and fertilizing are both the same. The only difference is that I bought them from different places and the one I bought first has always been a bit weaker than its counterpart. Also when I bought the first one, I had to report as it was root bound. About a week ago I noticed that the smaller one has really started drooping with one small yellowing leaf but most importantly droopy stems and curling leaves. It grew many new leaves in the summer but now there's one leaf which still hasn't opened up after several weeks. It's clearly stressed out but I'm not sure what the cause is because as I said, it gets the same watering, sunlight and feeding as the other and the other is doing amazing. I want to repot but autumn is here and I don't know if repotting in autumn is wise
I have 3 monstera, one in an east window, one in a southern window, and the third in a north window. The south one is doing the best; I keep the blinds down but slanted half way open (more like this " / " than this " -- " ). He's a cutting from the east window and he is growing big and producing perfect swiss cheese leaves. East window plant I've had for almost 4 years now. She does fairly well but we struggle to get her enough light; the blinds are up during the day but the next apartment building keeps her from getting the full length of the morning sun. She produces the occasional split leaf. Her leaves are on the smaller side but she keeps going. I actually gave her a big hair cut a few weeks ago so that should help. I also admit that she is probably WAY over due for a bigger pot 😬 (she's been in her current pot since I got her and it's not a very big pot) The North window monstera is..... still alive 😅😬 Actually, I only bought the north window plant after nearly killing the East window plant with a well meaning but ignorant move out on the south facing lanai. I bought the replacement plant online and it ended up being WAY bigger than I anticipated (and not suitable for the east window location) and thus is ended up in it's current location. Now what you don't know about me, is that I am a plant over-waterer. That's right, I love them to death. That's how I lost 90% of the northern window plant. I was giving it more water than it would need in ideal light conditions, let alone low light conditions. Then my new kitten came arrived and took out half of what little was left. What's left is a very viney plant trying to reach the light. I've added some small baby leaf cuttings and adjusted where the curtain opens, and I only give it a little water like once a month. So hopefully it will only get batter. admittedly it would probably do a lot better if I moved it to the center of it's window and opened the curtains when the sun gets up but you know, room aesthetics and personal sleep are equally important to me as my plants are 😉 All 3 got quasi-regular-daily water spritzes through out this winter season.
agree with the southern light. my south facing room has a monstera in the back corner, so no direct sunlight but south facing warmth and type of light and is growing fast up the wall and is very happy.
I just saved one of these beautiful plants from my cousin. He said he turned the heater on because it was cold in the house. She has browning and dead leaves. How can I bring her back? I'm in California and it's pretty cold at night. Getting to a high of 69 F in the day. My living room has plenty of light areas.
Thanks for the video! :) I have a Monstera and it's super droopy. I tried remedying the issues but it looks like the roots are rooted. Not sure why there's new baby growth if the roots are rotted. Any suggestions?
My experience is that the roots grow around the soil like that and stays hollow on the inside when the soil is mostly coco coir or moss peat and those types of soil instead of just normal dirt. I usually just use dirt (potting dirt) because that's what I can easily buy here but most often, when I buy plants, they come with that other type of soil. (I am not a native English speaker so the words might be mixed up, but hopefully you understand)
I put mine in leca too, but it is now yellowing the lower leaves, one leaf has a dark spot in the center and drooping. I just changed it over so I haven’t watered it. It is is very bright room but not directly in the sun. Any suggestions?
Did you trim any of the soil roots? I find that this helps as Marina suggests because the soil roots can rot when you transfer it into leca. whenever you convert a plant it will always have a transition stage. hang in there!
Okay another video said underwatering causes it to curl! Aaaaagh! I use a moisture meter and wait until it is dry before watering. But it is still droopy.I’m so confused. I guess the next step will be to check the roots.
Your monstera looks like mine except mine is much smaller in a 6 inch pot. I’m trying to figure out if the EXTREMELY droopy leaves are a watering issue or a light issue but idk! 😫. I feel like it’s getting plenty of bright light with a bit of strong afternoon light. Does that sound okay?
i had another one of mines last year in front of my west facing window, like right up on it. and it didn't burn or anything, it was actually quite happy. so i don't think its light related.

I’ve got a baby plant but it was growing too big for it’s pot so I put it in a bigger pot and used soil which is for flowers in the garden I hope that will be ok? It seems to be absolutely fine at the moment
Hi. I've bought a baby monstera last month. It started yellowing the bottom leaf & I figured it out it was overwatered so repot it and cut some rotted roots as well. It was quite good but no sign of growth and last week it stared yellowing and browing again. I don't want to repot but I have to :( so I again did the repotting and found that I've left some ariel roots there which were rotted. I again cut the ariel roots and wash the roots with hydrogen peroxide mixed with water and air dried the plant for 24 hrs which made the leaves wilt I guess! And repot it again after 24 hrs. It's been 4 days but the leaves are still wilt and the yellowing of the leaves are still continuing. So my baby plant has been a lot through in a month.. Any suggestions? Will it be okay after few days as I air dried the roots in an open air so that no fungus can grow further?
sounds like your plant is stressed. whenever you change its environment its going to take some time for it to adjust. as long as you put enough perlite or other draining materials into your soil mix, the plant will slowly recover. even though my plant has started to put out new growth, the older leaves are still droopy. it make take months at this rate before it recovers 100% or never. sometimes once the damage is done, there isn't much you can do about it. letting it dry out a bit should be fine. if anything you can always taking cuttings and propagate a new plant. 💚💚💚
mines lost a lot of leaves after so brace yourself but i think thats also due to the fact that messed with the roots a bit. it finally stabilized =) i am hoping the extra light we are getting now will help it fully recover! Good Luck! Keep us posted!
i recently got a small monstera cutting with about an inch long aerial root. i’ve had it in water to let the roots grow more but the leaf is starting to get droopy/light green and now yellow brown. Definitely a sad leaf. Do you think the water is too much? Tips are welcome!!
I don't have any experience with that. I would ask myself what did I change? Cause something caused it. If you had it in water for a while and it was fine? I have seen a lot of monstera grown in water so seems like they don't mind it too much? Sorry not much help

Hi. My monstera deliciosa has some of the stems basically falling over. I intertwine them with each other but they can't seem to stand up on their own. Help!
I have many monstera plants. A few months ago I accidentally repotted with outdoor garden mix. Very quickly the stalks wrinkled, the leaves curled and the tips, and many tips browned. I have since repotted in potting soil. They are not getting worse, but also not getting better. What can I do?
I actually just repot it whenever! lol but why not wait til spring if you are worried? its ok if its a bit pot bound. monsteras are very hardy plants. don't mess with the roots too much, that usually helps but ifs pot bound, you actually want to loosen the root ball. also, use some of the old soil into the new mix helps.

my monstera looks like yours too, idk what i did wrong since i just started gardening a month ago :((( i searched about it on google and they said it’s cos i underwatered the plant but the other said it’s cos i over watered the plant :(((( i think my monstera is stressed cos i’ve been moving it way too much, i’ll let it stay in one place for a week and see.
its a good idea to change one thing at a time. yeah, under and over water can show the same stress, so i guess you just need to ask yourself when you watered it and was the soil dry? i sometimes forget...=) lol my monstera is still droopy but its putting out new grow so i know we are heading in a good direction.
I bought a monstera plant from amazon recently. After couple of days, the leaves started yellowing. I already took out 3 leaves. I am worried how I can help my plant. Thanks!
Congrats! may be its just stress from traveling? its quite common. just make sure you don't overwater it. its going to take some time to adjust to your environment.
writing to you from India. summer heat is very strong right now. I bought a small monstera plant from Amazon and it arrived in very bad condition. totally dry and yellow leaves. all leaves have fallen off. is the plan dead? what do i do now?
I just got my monstera like 2 months ago and I’ve been watering from the bottom while putting water over the top. I’ve noticed the soil stays very wet after watering and think I may be overwatering. How do you know how much is enough water? Is it okay to replant and add more drainage to the soil during this time of the year or should I wait till fall or winter?
its putting out some new growth but the existing leaves look a bit sad, i don't think they will perk back up at this point. which is fine as long as its still growing.
i just bought a medium/small monstera w a couple leaves and it looked fine at first except for one leave w 2 splits which was lighter and a lil droopier than the other leaves. that same one just started to have a darkness on the outside of the leaf almost like it was burned, eaten by a bug, or something. if anyone has any tips pls shoot them my way i rly want him to be okay!! i can send pics if u need :)
The leaves on my Monstera were dripping, so I stopped watering it as much because it's been humid. Now the leaves are starting to curl even though the soil is wet. It's been a cloudy few days. Is it underwatered or needs more sunlight?
My monstera is droopy and curly... Today I've looked her roots and they're okay. The soil was pretty dry so I've watered him. BUT the thing is, everytime I water him (once a week), a lot of water comes out from the bottom, so I dont give him that many water... But then, droopy leaves come and I dont know what to do😂
when was the last time you repotted it? sounds like either you have a very well draining medium which means you need to water deeper or your plant is crazy pot bound which is why it can't get any water. I would pull it out of it's pot and check the soil. sometimes peat gets old and becomes really compacted to the point where no water can be absorbed. good luck
@@BotanicalWoman and yesterday when I looked at her roots, there were many roots, at the bottom mostly, but not thaaaat many... I've seen monsteras with more rootbound... And the soil didnt seem suuper compact either... I dont know

watering too much? too little? winter is rough for tropical plants! don't give up. monsteras are very hardy, i am sure it wil bounce back if you adjust your watering
Botanical Woman i think its the fact that it only has 1 drainage hole and its super tiny. Thats what this person means as well as a ceramic pot. Def will hold more water then it should even adding more perlite or orchid bark etc. i put mine in a nursery pot that had around 8 holes but i made some new ones and bigger ones because i want well drainage for my monstera. I dont want to kill him. Then i put it inside a decorative pot. Its really a seagrass basket with a plastic lining to catch the water if u decide to water it as its inside. So yeah, its just that 1 drainage hole and that size isn’t really best for it. Pots with holes like that i use for succulents or cacti. Seeing i just spray them and wont over water those so they dont need a big drainage hole. How is it doing? Is drainage easily coming out of the hole?
Hi, so I've just purchased my 2nd Monstera online and it's arrived with one of the main parent leaves all curled and very pale green, not yellow but also not healthy dark green. It's arrived massively potbound, huge roots sticking out the bottom of the pot. Just hope it springs to life once I repot it. Thanks for the video
not sure but the pale green leaf should darken, as thats the color of fresh leaves. if that's not the case then it might have been light burn at some point but i hope its the latter. yeah deliciosa have a crazy root system. if you want to go up say 3 pot sizes just make sure you add a lot of perlite. They are really hardy plants, I am sure it will get better for you soon!
@@BotanicalWoman Awesome, thanks soo much for responding. I'm just waiting on a big bag of perlite to arrive, then I shall get on a repotting mission. Thanks once again, and love your content. Keep up the good work

If a pot has few drainage holes, I recommend putting a layer of rocks in the bottom first. Small-medium sized rocks (bigger than that gravel you mixed into your soil). I usual will turn a small plastic pot upside down so there is a big enough drainage area and keeps the hole from clogging up

I think larger aeroid plants put more roots out sideways because they are looking to anchor themselves, for another tree's roots to grab onto.

my monstera looks like yours too, idk what i did wrong since i just started gardening a month ago :((( i searched about it on google and they said it’s cos i underwatered the plant but the other said it’s cos i over watered the plant :(((( i think my monstera is stressed cos i’ve been moving it way too much, i’ll let it stay in one place for a week and see.
its a good idea to change one thing at a time. yeah, under and over water can show the same stress, so i guess you just need to ask yourself when you watered it and was the soil dry? i sometimes forget...=) lol my monstera is still droopy but its putting out new grow so i know we are heading in a good direction.
What’s the name or link for the mister spray
what was that substance you added for thrips and mealy worms at 9:00 ?
systemic. amzn.to/36CCIcA
Are you supposed to trim off the browning or burnt part of the leaves?
That's really up to you? I don't really do that with my plants
I just found your channel, are you a infp personality type by any chance?
I did the same thing, over watered it. >,< sorry plant!
writing to you from India. summer heat is very strong right now. I bought a small monstera plant from Amazon and it arrived in very bad condition. totally dry and yellow leaves. all leaves have fallen off. is the plan dead? what do i do now?
that depends, are the stems still solid? if so, it will be grow. how are the roots?
How is your plant doing now?
Would it have been better if you would’ve separated it and put it in a different pot so that it would have room to continue growing
Its definitely an option but better? thats subjective.
So for yellow leaf in monster plant is we need to change the soil.??
hard to say but i would say no.
the roots are trying to spread out wouldn't you say ??
I think the leaves are droopy since it is pot bound......
I just got my monstera like 2 months ago and I’ve been watering from the bottom while putting water over the top. I’ve noticed the soil stays very wet after watering and think I may be overwatering. How do you know how much is enough water? Is it okay to replant and add more drainage to the soil during this time of the year or should I wait till fall or winter?
if you think the soil is too wet for too long i would definitely repot as this will kill the plant (root rot).
My monstera deliciosa plant has New leaves growing out but they are browning at the tips before they even unfurling... Help?
sorry I don't have any experience with that. my best advice is to post photos on facebook it's where I got for help when I am stuck
have the same problem too!!!
How’s the plant doing now?
its putting out some new growth but the existing leaves look a bit sad, i don't think they will perk back up at this point. which is fine as long as its still growing.
i just bought a medium/small monstera w a couple leaves and it looked fine at first except for one leave w 2 splits which was lighter and a lil droopier than the other leaves. that same one just started to have a darkness on the outside of the leaf almost like it was burned, eaten by a bug, or something. if anyone has any tips pls shoot them my way i rly want him to be okay!! i can send pics if u need :)
Sounds like it was a new leaf and you gave it too much sun
The leaves on my Monstera were dripping, so I stopped watering it as much because it's been humid. Now the leaves are starting to curl even though the soil is wet. It's been a cloudy few days. Is it underwatered or needs more sunlight?
sounds like its underwater or it got burned? only you can tell really.
I would pull it out of it's pot and check the soil. sometimes peat gets old and becomes really compacted to the point where no water can be absorbed. good luck
@@BotanicalWoman but is it a good idea to repot it on october?
@@BotanicalWoman and yesterday when I looked at her roots, there were many roots, at the bottom mostly, but not thaaaat many... I've seen monsteras with more rootbound... And the soil didnt seem suuper compact either... I dont know
Can you link your newest toy?
You will need to create an account to buy but here is the link www.wish.com/search/spray%20bottle/product/5c760c7e0b33e34df93d28f2?&source=search&position=1&share=web I am pretty sure you can get it on amazon too.
I love that mister I got mine from Amazon. It's actually used by hairstylists and barbers. Look up barber mister 💚
did it come back?
it's now in my fish tank
Oh no!!
My monstera is drooping I just repotted it 🙁
stress will do that...usually if its not too bad, it will straighten up in a week. 💚
Botanical Woman ok I was hoping it was just from repotting lol thank you 🙂
My leafs are turning yellow.. 😔
watering too much? too little? winter is rough for tropical plants! don't give up. monsteras are very hardy, i am sure it wil bounce back if you adjust your watering
The older leaves of my Monstera are fine but the new ones are so droppy ☹️
not knowing more info, i want to say its normal, it will stiffen up once the new leaf hardens
What about a Variegated Monstera Deliciosa with yellow and brown leaf 😕🥴
I don't have one but I imagine it behaves similarly
My monstera looks sad with droopy leaves .yellow patches in the middle, breaking like somone tried to cut . Please suggest me something
? sounds like overwater?
Hi nice video. How is it doing now?
it's growing but the old leaves still look 💩
My monstera is having some of its leaves turn black and Idk what to do :( almost like burnt
it would also be be a fungus infection? send me a pic on IG if you want a second option =)
Hello your monstera is so big na. I love it.what happen my dear.

Whata hot mess...... plants need drainsge!!
lol i am happy to report the plant is putting out new growth...I added a lot of perlite so we should be ok.
U don’t look happy around your plants. 🧐😂
its never the plants trust me! =) lol
U put her in a pot without holes without drainage come on are u kidding me? Do u actually know anything about plants? 😂😂😂😂
not sure why you think it doesn't have drainage holes...
Keep up the good work
That is a new leaf! Just be careful about repotting into a pot that's too big as there will be too much soil and it might not dry fast enough
