Dude, having different expectations going into a game and feeling unfulfilled. I feel this so much. It's why I want to focus on more variety in my gaming in 2025.
I've been doing the same. I've collected a lot of indie/AA games on Switch. Love playing games from these smaller devs, lots of different inspirations. I don't have any expectations.
this was so cool, please more! I really wish gaming were as social as the xbox 360/ps3 days playing all day and talking about the game when you met with friends just so cool definitely gonna play a few ps3 bangers after this video thanks guys!
The reason you don't see people with this thought process is thanks to this new generation of gaming journalism culture. A game comes out via trailer or release, and it immediately is up for ratings and reviews instead of just the new experience it provides. They don't rate the games off of their experience with the game or how they played it. Every game released today is put on a checklist. People just don't want to enjoy games anymore but instead just talk about them.
Because sales matter sadly. I everyone bought every video game blindly the games would be much worse, because what publishers and developers cares the most is how much the game sold and they will too other games similary, because money. So i rather make informed decission and then either buy it at release month, or wait for sale or avoid it completely. They are totally games i wished i bought sooner, but at the same time if i buy something on sale and then don't like it i don't feel that bad, when i drop it or don't like it. Thats actually second point. Freaking FOMO. The game after release can be played for next 2-20 years, yet we have to buy it now, because in 6 months the game becomes irrelevant for some reason. Also i'm broke, can't buy every game just for chance to get good experience from it.
I gotta say, man, as a new dad, husband and household income-earner, your perspective is so refreshing to hear. I used to stress all the time on how to use my gaming time effectively but listening to your videos has allowed me to break away from this way of thinking and just play what seems fun at the time! I appreciate the little free time I have between working, lifting/cardio and family much much more. Been here since Halo too 🙌 keep going, man! I love this stuff!
This was an amazingly insightful discussion. Every topic got me thinking that I could make my own responses to them, and I may.. Great podcast! I would love to hear more
These days I try to play a game as blind as possible. No reviews, no spoilers, no online discussions on them. I used to be an avid trophy hunter but felt like that was ruining one of my favorite things about games, getting lost in an immersive world. So that’s what I’ve been doing more of lately and I’ve been enjoying playing games a lot more than the past few years
Ok ill share. I played fps and fifa competitively for 9 straight years. I abandoned fps, then. I decided my bank account would be better if i dont pay to win on fifa anymore. Bro. I had NO IDEA so many great games existed!!! ! Resident evil 2 and 3 was remade. And legit I had no idea about ANY other game. I was just laser focussed. Now. I am addicted to single player games. And am having a complete enjoyment revival! I am going through a whole new honeymoon periid with ganes now. And I am not mad. I just feel i missed out on so much. I even tried other games like starfield, hitman 3. Which. Are all amazing btw! I think if you just tried one of these ganes. On hard. You will also feel this way. I am also convinced i am not alone. Sone people telling me they only played GTA, or cod, or battlefield, fortnight . And that theyve never tried half these other ganes. I think buying a rog ally x also helped me. Cos you are forced to test your new hardware limits so you download games to test. Which in my opinion. Is a whole new kinda game in itself lol
I'm an older gamer but I keep trying to get my kids into single player games as I think they are missing out on the joy of them. Trying to get through to them that games don't always have to be competitive. Now my older one experiments a bit more and we actually went through bloodborne together. The other is still a fornite junkie 😢 have fun trying out new stuff, the rog ally is cool, use it myself
I love this video I’ve watched it three times you guys mentioned some really good topics and I think you are soo right with everything you said I love that you played ff7 on your psp using your ps3 I did the same my favourite ps3 games are metal gear solid 4 , heavenly sword, where is that btw? And uncharted games there are many more but I can’t remember top of my head great work guys ❤
I play cod because I don’t have anyone to play with. When I hear people talking I feel like I’m playing with people and I don’t feel so alone. Same with sports. I watch football but have someone on UA-cam on my phone so it feels like I have someone to “talk” to. I’m 32 with 3 kids and a wife. It sucks how we lose friends as we get older and i don’t like it. Really do miss playing with friends and just having a fun time. It’s been way too long of this that I actually contemplated giving up gaming.
I am having lots of fun with gaming. I just hit max rank in MCC yesterday after grinding all year. It was a ton of fun getting really back into those games. Now I’m excited to be done with that to give even more attention to my backlog as well as go back to Infinite and grind that to get my multiplayer fix.
I usually don’t sit through podcasts episodes through their entirety, but you guys really have a great dynamic. Listened all the way through while gaming and editing. Much love!
What changed gaming for me was simply putting more time into it. Sounds stupid, but when i left the "cod gamer bubble", i took much of my freetime to look left and right, which genres are there? Which games tell unique stories? What do i want to experience in gaming the most? I found out (after trying lots of games) that i'm open to a big amount of variety (such as action based rpgs, storybased explorationgames, strategy games, shooters and racing games... a lot more). There are many gems out there, especially games from the past which made me fall in love with videogames a 2nd time. Even games i first of thought they wouldn't be very interesting to me. Have a nice weekend and fun with gaming. 🥰
Not even a big gamer, but clicked bc it sounded so relatable to how I’m feeling with a lot of my interests/hobbies right now. I wasn’t wrong! Thanks for sharing guys.
This was a ton of fun to listen to! As someone who deeply regrets trading in their old consoles and games I really relate to all the topics discussed. I could definitely see this becoming a staple series of your channel.
Recently pulled out my fat ps2. I’m very fortunate enough to have a great family owned retro store. Going shopping for ps2 games and going home after a long day of work and playing said game have been the best thing recently. Definitely sparks the kid in me💪🏽
I was just replacing UA-cam with Podcasts on Spotify in order to beat my UA-cam addiction (I set a UA-cam time limit of 15 Minutes a day in Leechblock) so this is just perfect.
You give me a 2 hour long video, I return after 2 hours with a long comment! I picked up a PS3 for the first time this past summer, mostly with the intent of playing through the entire MGS series. I haven't actually gotten to MGS yet because I've been caught up playing other games both on and off of the console. My opinions on the console are... mixed, though. There's some quaintness, sure, and it's very cool that the store and servers are still up, and there's plenty of worthwhile games. But a lot of these games, especially Red Dead Redemption, were pushing the consoles far past their limits. The performance and graphics can be very rough to deal with. People who say "specs don't matter, gameplay does!' really don't realize how spoiled we are now. Gaming discussion is definitely less fun now, at least in public (in private with friends it's the same as it's always been). I'm guilty of getting into some internet spats and it's hard for me to pull myself away when I'm dealing with someone obnoxious or oblivious. My solution is generally to keep myself busy with life. I value my gaming time more and I don't waste time getting into pointless arguments with people who don't want to see reason. It also helps with making sure that I'm only playing the games I really want to play, when I want to play them. I loved playing Black Ops 6 and I'm very glad that I had a month of gamepass to play it on because it's not a game I actually want to buy physically. Having to be always-online, dealing with server queues for a CAMPAIGN, it all just complicates things and makes it pointless to even try to own the game. I will buy it physically if and when they allow the campaign to go offline so I can be sure I'll have it around forever. That gamestop employee was legendary.
3:01 Helldivers 2 is the only thing that gave me that same feeling when Halo (og) released, maybe The Division (1), I’ve had so much fun, made so many friends, had childlike wonder again, and as a middle aged dad that’s rare, it’s the one fulfilling game. I had it briefly with Black ops 6, 5:28 also I would argue that it’s not necessarily single player games, though I do love them, and a good story, and a good gameplay, but 2 out of 3 games and shooters. I just mentioned have a PVE, or team against bot dynamic, and that kind of leads me to a theory, it’s not necessarily that we have fun shooting things or our friends, but that we like shooting things *WITH* our friends, also, completing task or puzzles with friends, it doesn’t have to be shooting. I’ve had so much fun, role-playing, and just grinding a story with so many people I will probably never meet, and that is meant so much more to me than my K/D on a shooter(don’t get me wrong I’m def proud of it, but it just doesn’t hit the same unless I’m doing it with the boys, even if we don’t get a team score) 14:19 - 15:09 *THAT* 15:10 - 16:10 exactly that!
I can actually say i don't watch reviews for games anymore, new or old. I do, however, like to seek out and watch series retrospectives. I can usually learn some interesting new details about a game's development or the people behind a game/studio. I'm so old and even jaded now that whenever i hear someone try to tell me whether something is good or bad, I'm just kind of like "whatever, i'll see for myself."
There are definitely some gems in the modern day, but they are harder and harder to find. My brother and I both got back into gaming regularly because of Forza Horizon. Turns out, stuff that was fun (racing cool cars), holds up if it isn’t drenched in modern gaming pitfalls. They aren’t constantly trying to make me spend with that title and it is good arcade race experience with some modern sim racing touches and it’s genuinely fun!
Man I wish. Single player games can't really hold my attention very well anymore, but I love the Competitive feeling, and player interaction from multiplayer games. Maybe I'm not as much of a gamer as I used to be. That being said I loved the from software souls like. I'm not a masochist I swear.
55:40 honestly 100% agree. You can tell when so many people jumped into the console/gaming space during this era, and they cannot see the value in playing older gaming generations. Which is really sad because so many of these current franchises started on previous consoles and are still great to play. This current trend of highest graphics possible and performance comparisons/pixel peeping is utterly trash topics and I hate them wholeheartedly. They don't add anything to the conversation and its why we have stagnated with games for the most part. I also always hear "I want to play new games on my new console, not old" and then they proceed to buy the next remastered version from a game that's not even 5 years old etc. Gaming has now become a status symbol or trend now instead of just fun entertainment/passion and playing wherever and whatever.
Ninja Theory also did Enslaved. Would personally love to see remasters of the Resistances and Killzones in collections to include the PSP/Vita exclusives. Last week I just went through Space Marine having somehow missed it during Gen7 and havent had that much fun in forever! Fired up part 2 last night and although it obviously looks and handles much better, is missing that sense of power the original gave me (Like GOW 2018). Dont get me wrong, it is excellent so far and am enjoying and definitely pressing on with it either way but miss that feeling.
I like it “derpin around”. Lol We get caught in the, having experienced not being good at times in these games, loop of “if I just destroy this next round” I will be better than the other 50% of losers. Like we are trying to prove to ourselves, and others, that we are as good as we thought that we were. We continue to play until we prove that to ourselves until 3 hours in we didn’t really enjoy it like we thought that we would so we just say “I will get it next time” like someone addicted to gambling.
DayZ always makes me feel nice during and after.. unless I loose all my gear after 5 hours of collecting.. splitgate is amazing, slpitgate 2 comes out soon o think.
Dude you talking about expectations and feelings is why I dropped destiny a few years ago and have since dropped many other games. It's literally what i tell my friends. It's too sweaty and i dont feel like man i had a good time when I'm done. I just would rather play a more chill pvp shooter or a pve shooter. I don't want to have to sweat my balls off everytime. Also AMEN to halo 3 being some of the best online matchmaking experiences. I totally agree and matchmaking today. Almost everytime i hop onto something AAA today i just feel like I have to lock in so hard every game just go negative and barely win or barely lose. It's just exhausting. Im not gonna make gaming a part time job on the side. It's supposed to be fun. Hard pass on most AAA stuff these days. Old games and Indies are awesome.
Deep down I'm a competetive person so I will probably always apprecuate a competetive expierience I have a rule for myself when it comes to mutliplayer games to keep enjoyment high. I can only play max 2 matches a day (regardless of if the matches were good or not) Abd i try to also not play competetive gamew back to back. This has allowed me to enjoy those games waaay more. For me it's mostly counterstrike and Aoe4 (--> yes I'm being totally serious, its a great competetive RTS) It's also forces me to really improve deliberaly on a certain ascpect of the game. In CS i only play 2-3 maps (inferno, overpass train) and in Aoe i only play 1 civilization (french) This entire approach also allows me to expierence singleplayer games on the side aswell but sometimes singleplayer games don't really challenge me enough hence the competetive games. Okay I went on for waaay to long. I appreciate the select few who read through this ❤
Used to be huge into Apex and the old CODs as a kid. Had a lot of fun and grinided a ton of ranked. A few years ago I realized I wasn’t having fun anymore and pretty much gave up multiplayer FPS games. Since then I’ve played more single player story games than ever before and I have to say it’s been the best time ever for me as a gamer. Just picking something you like and enjoying it at your own pace is so fulfilling. Great stories, gameplay, experiences. This is the way
Recently have had a double whammy moment with this. Trying to have some decent sessions on Halo while sbmm is leading to some horrible results. Then I switch over to Elden ring thinking it'll be a better experience. WHELP
2 hours? Who let bro cook? Bwt, to those thinking about playing Shadow of the Colossus, just go forward. You will experience one of the best games of all time.
Yeah I’m giving fps a break. Nice little back log of survival, horror, story games. I forget the genre hades is called. Anyway. My only issue, and it’s been this way since I was young. Gaming off and on since I was a kid. Games that are 10 hours will take me 15 or a little less. I usually need walkthrough guides as well. I die a lot. Get lost. Don’t know if it’s my adhd or just suck lol.
Pvp games just aren't what they used to. Titanfall 1 was the last pvp shooter I truly enjoyed and after that it was all slowly downhill. I pick 1 up every now and then, And have some resemblance of fun. But I definitely do not stick around.
The early years of Rainbow six seige was very small. Your not going against mouse and keyboard on ps4. Your just playing rank with your buddies and chilling playing against people with different tactics
Not sure how much I agree with the initial discussion about how a game makes you feel. It sounds like you're going into a game placing expectations on what should happen without taking into consideration the part of what makes multiplayer gaming fun is how dynamic the experience can be. Like you guys mentioned, you can get the same type of frustration if you get stuck fighting a boss in a single player which shows that the type of game isn't what is causing the frustration, it's your expectations of the exoerience. I say this because I've noticed this in myself. I can play a 1v1 multiplayer game and get destroyed or get stuck on a boss in Elden Ring but still enjoy the experience the entire time. However, I used to get frustrated when I was playing a team based multiplayer if I felt like my team wasn't carrying their weight or was griefing/inting. By paying attention to these differences though I've realized that the thing that causes me to feel differently about each experience is my mindset going into it. I can enjoy dying 100 times to Radahn or losing a ft 10 in Tekken because I'm going into the experience with the intent to learn and improve. Once I stopped paying attention to all of these other things that don't actually matter (what some said in chat, whether or not they did X thing right) I found that my ability to enjoy team based games improved. I get trying to remove things from your life if you feel they have a negative effect on you, but I think a healthier approach is to reframe how you see them. Instead of almost demanding that you be allowed to have X, Y or Z experience, just enjoy and accept whatever experience you do have. It was the lack of expectation you had back when you first started playing Halo or CoD or Destiny or whatever game that allowed you to enjoy it in the first place so why are you placing expectations on it now?
The point isn't physical media. It is DRM-free. Physical media is still temporary due to disc rot, failing hardware, etc. It sucks that the industries are against us, where you basically have to pirate to have permanent media and even then, hard drives fail.
HELL YEAH BROTHA
Thank you dude!!!
Dude, having different expectations going into a game and feeling unfulfilled. I feel this so much. It's why I want to focus on more variety in my gaming in 2025.
Hey Kevin. What other games are you looking to play in 2025.
Hi Kevin :)

Gonna be listening to 2 hours of the gamers therapist.
My evening is gonna be relaxing 🤗
this was so cool, please more!

Definitely needed this after years of no Destiny the Show podcast
Just found you guys. Very enjoyable conversation. Liked, subscribed, commenting for the algorithm
I enjoy the true hearts of gamers voicing out in this podcast. It provides a sense of community to the great times.
Subscribed ! Content and audio quality are on point
Love the new format ❤
Much appreciated, thanks!

Dont get me wrong, it is excellent so far and am enjoying and definitely pressing on with it either way but miss that feeling.
Need more of this!
I like it “derpin around”. Lol
We get caught in the, having experienced not being good at times in these games, loop of “if I just destroy this next round” I will be better than the other 50% of losers.
Nice, got me a 2 hour podcast while I grind Warframe lol
Deep down I'm a competetive person so I will probably always apprecuate a competetive expierience
I have a rule for myself when it comes to mutliplayer games to keep enjoyment high.
I can only play max 2 matches a day (regardless of if the matches were good or not)
Abd i try to also not play competetive gamew back to back.
This has allowed me to enjoy those games waaay more.
For me it's mostly counterstrike and Aoe4 (--> yes I'm being totally serious, its a great competetive RTS)
It's also forces me to really improve deliberaly on a certain ascpect of the game. In CS i only play 2-3 maps (inferno, overpass train) and in Aoe i only play 1 civilization (french)
This entire approach also allows me to expierence singleplayer games on the side aswell but sometimes singleplayer games don't really challenge me enough hence the competetive games.
Okay I went on for waaay to long. I appreciate the select few who read through this ❤
Lets gooo!!! 2 hours😍
WHELP
Great video

OH SHIT this is cool.
Pvp games just aren't what they used to.
Titanfall 1 was the last pvp shooter I truly enjoyed and after that it was all slowly downhill.
I pick 1 up every now and then, And have some resemblance of fun.
But I definitely do not stick around.
Funny enough 19:14 you can play ps1 games natively on the psp!
1:59:52 Yeah sorry for my name aging poorly xD
This is me and uncharted 4 multiplayer
The early years of Rainbow six seige was very small. Your not going against mouse and keyboard on ps4. Your just playing rank with your buddies and chilling playing against people with different tactics
OH Yeah
spotify link seems to be broken.
Either that or it could be an issue on my end
It was the lack of expectation you had back when you first started playing Halo or CoD or Destiny or whatever game that allowed you to enjoy it in the first place so why are you placing expectations on it now?
same bro im gambling all night ending not playing or buying bullshit game after hours lost
i love long form
talk about MAG
Elder scrolls 6 maybe in 2026
The point isn't physical media. It is DRM-free. Physical media is still temporary due to disc rot, failing hardware, etc. It sucks that the industries are against us, where you basically have to pirate to have permanent media and even then, hard drives fail.
