Having gotten more rides on Orion on two subsequent visits, the ride has continued to grow on me. Outside of the helix, I really enjoy all the elements and the sense of speed it maintains in the valleys.

Orion is an interesting one for me. Now I personally think that Millennium Force is better, and that one is more nostalgic for me, but Orion still holds a special place in my heart. For as long as I’ve been an enthusiast I thought that Leviathan and Fury 325 looked so cool, so naturally I was excited that a B&M giga was coming to a park near me, even if it was the smallest of the 3. I religiously watched the animation and I loved seeing the construction updates, I think I literally jumped with joy when I saw the first test runs. My first visit to Kings Island was during the summer of 2021 (I didn’t go in 2020 because… it’s kinda self explanatory). I was a little upset that I missed Vortex by a couple years, but I completely forgot about Vortex when I saw Orion looming over the skyline, I thought it was so cool to go to Kings Island for the first time and have this brand new B&M monster waiting for me. This was the first coaster I religiously tracked from its rumors, to it’s announcement, to its construction, to its opening, and I was proud of the fact that I rode it fairly soon after it opened. As for the ride itself: I think it’s amazing. The first drop is easily the best first drop I’ve experienced, the airtime is powerful in the back row and it feels like it lasts forever, it’s also mad steep. I found the first “wave” turn to be pretty fun, every time I’ve ridden Orion it was hauling, so the element has always given me floater at the very least. The rest of the ride is amazing, you get an awesome speed hill, a great camelback (the trim has never really affected the airtime for me), you get some great positive gs in the helix, and you get two great airtime pops to end the ride. I love the ride, I think it was one of Kings Islands best decisions. Though some might criticize it’s height (because according to thoosies, a 300ft drop isn’t that crazy), It looks and feels like a giga to me, and it’s an awesome giga.
This ride has gotten some mixed opinions from many. Some love it and others think it’s just good. But I just appreciate what a love letter to Kings Island’s history this ride is. One thing I really admire about Cedar Fair is how respectful they usually are to their defunct rides. For Son of Beast, a ride that some liked but most hated, they bothered to create a neat little eternal flame in Banshee’s queue. For Disaster Transport at Cedar Point, which had a cult following but was largely disliked, they pay tribute to ever Halloween with the skeletons in one of the sleds. Even for Volcano at Kings Dominion (even though it was pretty douchy of them to close such a beloved ride with no warning), they donated a lead car to the Roller Coaster Museum. And even when they do get rid of old rides, they usually replace it with something expensive and vastly superior in most ways.
Congrats on 1000! Based on your review and what I've heard from others, I'm so glad my one ride I got so far was in the front seat. I prefer the three other gigas I've been on ever so slightly in the front as well, so I figured that would give me the best experience, although I am craving many more rides on Orion! After riding all the US gigas in the same week this past summer (Orion for the first time), Orion stands out. I wouldn’t flat out say it’s the best, but if I had to pick one to ride right now, it would be Orion for that perfectly angled first drop. The airtime is uncontested in the back row. Overall it just feels so refined and every element does what it needs to. I’ll have to wait until next year to know for sure, but I could see myself being confident enough to call it my #1 giga. And that’s after being initially disappointed with it on my first ride lol. It offers a different experience to Fury but I think the two layouts actually compliment each other really well.
This was my first B&M giga and the drop on this is everything I expected. I’d honestly felt bigger than Millennium forces drop. You don’t even see the bottom and you float all the way down.

I rode Orion and Diamondback, for the first time, 4 times each last Summer, 2022. I came away thinking Diamondback is the better coaster, with stronger forces and more action than Orion. I'm surprised KI went for another B&M similar to the other. B&Ms started feeling overly-similar & a bit mellow to me years ago. Orion is beautiful and fast but lacks intensity & strong forces where it seems they should be stronger, like the wave turn, turnaround & spiral. I like the first drop a lot, in the back seat for it's negative Gs that continue all the way down. Positive Gs at the bottom are good, too. I like the small hill following the turnaround for it's strong airtime.
I'm not surprised they got a B&M giga. Canada's Wonderland and Carowinds added one (after also having a B&M hyper) and both rides were very well received.
There's a roller coaster at Port Aventura in Spain that's launches you over a tower over 300 feet tall (I think it's called Red Force). Is that classified as a giga coaster or not?

I like this ride a lot.
See the ampersand helix, I say ampersand because there is a B&M hyper coaster with an ampersand turnaround, what did that offer, what do you think?
Shambhala has one and it rode better on my 2022 and 2023 rides.
And imagine riding again Orion at Kings Island and Shambhala at PortAventura. Do you prefer Orion? Or how would you compare it to Shambhala? And in terms of smoothness, what do you think about both? And in terms of pacing?
Both are extremely smooth. I prefer Shambhala for the superior airtime.
this thing already has a rattle 📉
It wasn't bad in 2021 for me.
