sealant around the box is a must, plus putting solar panels on the roof would not need holes in the roof. A few of the flexi ones that you stick to the roof, would be enough to keep the batteries charged

    • @joshuaflowers736

you would need holes to pass the wires through, unless you run enough cable to get through existing holes.

Just fab up a quick frame to mount a panel to that slides out on the ceiling at the back door. Kinda like the step but when it’s out it has a solar panel facing the sky. That way no holes on the outside roof & is there when you need it but is always out of the way

I would add red tape or paint on the inside of the trailer floor at the edge of the doorway, and green tape/paint at the edge where the step actually is, so there's something visual to remind you where to step.

Hawse style fairlead(as used here) for synthetic - roller style fairlead for cable
Steel rollers will develop nicks and such over time that will damage the synthetic rope, while the solid aluminum hawse fairlead won't. And, on the inverse, a steel cable is obviously going to wreck a piece of billet aluminum in short order, so steel roller fairlead for cable.

You might want to look at installing rampovers, similar to what dirt late models use, and it will make pulling the 'vette in and also make tying it down so much easier. You could have also looked into mounting the winch under the cabinet on the SIDE of the trailer and use a snatch block to change direction of the cable. It would utilize the dead space under that cabinet since its elevated off the floor.

  • @bubbalove5097
    @bubbalove5097 Рік тому +8

Easy fix for the winch location. Build yourself a little "a-frame" to clip into the E-track on the floor that sits directly above the winch with a pulley in the middle of it so the winch line goes straight up and makes a 90 degree turn. Make it a foot-foot and a half tall. It will make the pull on the corvette bumper straight instead of an angle and make it so you can winch right up to the box adding an extra 2 or 3 feet of effective winching because it wont be pulling down so aggressively. We use a-frame winching in my shipyard for pulling big cables for when we cant get the winch straight on with the mouth of the conduit. Once the cars in, you can simply pull out the a-frame and put it up out of the way. Would be a neat little fabrication project for you too. I know you love those

The only part I think you missed, was putting some silicon sealant between the box and the frame. I could see water slowly getting in there while driving in heavy rain. As for the steps, Why not build a thinish cross beam (L on its side), that bolts across the two existing beams, and then simply screws into the floor from the bottom. Then mount your steps to that so that its centered. I could see that space being a broken knee when someone forgets.

With two or three small o medium size panel will give you pleanty of charge to keep the battery going for different stuff. That winch is super trick! For sealing the cables running outside the box, look into nylon cable glands. They're made for what you are doing and are usually IP water rated. They are a bulkhead fitting and will secure to the holes you already have. You run your cables through them and they compress down to create a seal around the cable to prevent water intrusion. Second what others said on the sealant and also solar panels. For seal, just run bead of gasket maker or some other silicone sealant you probably already have lying around. For solar panels there are ways to attach it to the roof without damaging it.

Hi Taylor.. love your videos.. very entertaining.. love your work..couple of suggestions.. my opinion only.. will the winch be strong enough just screwed to the floor..id be using bolts, lots of pressure there when winching..
With the step, if you put another one next to it going towards the front, it will eliminate the problem of missing the step, and also create sitting areas on both sides of the door..
    Best of luck 😁

@@adematthewsracing Yes correct.. im sure the way Taylor is, he will add a beam and modify it.. probably will irritate him the way it is😬

I would add tow hooks so I was not having to hook and unhook to and from under the vehicles.

You need some solar panels on the roof and some LiFePh batteries for more capacity. Now granted that means you'd have to get an inverter, but it's a much more long-term solution for power.

  • @WHITTLE74

Solar panels on the roof, would be the go keep the trailer charged when it’s not in use. And keep them topped up when you at races with out a generator

They make this product called sound deadening it stops rattling, they also make heat barrier, heat wrap, coatings etc.

just throwing this out there. strapping a car by the wheels or suspension causes the suspension to remain active, if you stop and check the trailer in the middle of a drive crawl in and feel a damper, itll be warm/hot. essentially your putting the same mileage on your dampers as you are the tow vehicle and trailer.

Is the winch on a breaker or switch just in case someone accidentally butt dials on the remote?

I have seen many of these comments but it should be said again... Solar panels dude. There are excellent flexible roll and stick panels out there. Hell, my folks have them on their roof in Washington state. 3.5 kilowatt system and they only need the backup generator on the darkest days of winter. Fully grid free for forty years. For your small application mostly in the south....? Money. No need to ever charge the batteries with something like a 500 watt system.

You could easily rig a snatch block or two that clipped into track in there if for some reason you ever needed more muscle or to move your pulling point even farther forward in the trailer. Maybe a piece of fish 6 out some kind of cushion on the step corner. It was definitely threatening your shin when you get in a hurry. All that's left is filling it up with giant checks and trophies

Another idea for a winch could be to put it in where you access the jacks and have it come through one of the cabinets

Just input from a racer that does some dirt and asphalt racing. When we load the asphalt car we’ve found it easier to hook the winch at the back of the car.

looking nice bud.....add a paino hinge to the cabinet lid to the winch it will keep it out of the way and still be closable just no need to take it off!!!

100% a solar panel or two. this way you could have the batteries topped off and maybe even a small ac unit on those really hot days.

They make drive over ramps that go over the fenders, you can also buy a remote steering system that easily connects to your quick disconnect steering column

Wouldn't rivets instead of hex head self tappers be cleaner/less likely to trip over? And wouldn't it make sense for it be installed next to a floor brace so that you can mount it to that brace?

I think now with the winch you you don’t need to crawl out of the car and you could put tire racks up on the side. Then you’d have so much room at the front for activities. Also they make a thing called a steering buddy that clips on to your wheel and allows remote steering.

You really need to look into a steering buddy for driving the car into the trailer without having to be in the car. It works off bluetooth from your phone and an 18 volt milwaukee battery. Been super popular in the dirt world and has started taking off in the drag racing world.
