Yes, this is an original Elton John/Bernie Taupin song. It is an early performance and one of Elton's early hits (circa 1970). This is also a definite live performance. The single sounds very much like it. Ty for reacting to this. I hadn't seen this performance before. I think Elton John does indeed get "lost in the moment" when he plays. He is the consummate professional. 💜
Simply beautiful. Like you said, calming, soothing and relaxing. I love Elton John's music. You can tell he was in love when he created the music to this song and his friend Bernie wrote the lyrics. A perfect combination.
❤️ that shirt ☺️. This is a beautiful song and it never gets old. Never heard this live version. He’s the originator of this song- lyrics are written by Bernie Taupin, and Elton John wrote the music.
Elton is a great singer ,his songs just invite you in. I needed this today.Helped to relieve some of my stress and anxiety .He just tells the story so clearly, Sometimes the music fades and his voice stands on its own.So talented.
Bernie is a true wordsmith. Combined with Elton's vocal and true mastery of the piano, the music becomes a transporter of emotion. I get "brain movies" playing in my head to such music.
Just beautiful… I remember the first time I heard this in 1970. My roommate brought the album home. I discovered many great artists because of him. Elton was just becoming known. It made such impression on me. I was 18, just moved from home. I was wishing I had someone to love that much, to play it for. I’ve heard it 100’s of times over the years. Never get tired of it. Now, it makes me sad, because the love of my life passed almost four years ago. Thinking about our memories together. I’m so glad people are still discovering it. Glad it’s not being forgotten, like so many other wonderful songs. Thanks Jamel😊
When Elton sings, he's channeling and adorning the Lyricist. Which, in this case as in most cases, is Bernie Taupin. The sentiment is Bernie's. The musical treatment is Elton's. 'Props' to both Bernie and to Reg. A Timeless recording.
This song makes me cry. One of my dad's favorites and it makes me think of him and I really miss him. My life was definitely made wonderful by him being my dad.
This was Elton's breakout hit. Loved it then, love it still. "I don't have much money, but boy if I did, I'd buy a big house where we both could live." Bernie could write a lyric, eh?
@@dranet47 I agree with you 100%. Haunting is the only way I can describe it. I just listened to it a couple of hours ago. I never tire of it. I enjoy the entire album, really.
This one is Elton's (and his lyricist Bernie Taupin). His first big hit. Just one of many examples of how great he was in his prime. "Grey Seal" studio version is a mind blower, he kills the piano.
Delivering newspapers as a young kid with the Sun-Times and the Tribune and my transistor radio ....couldn't get enough EJ as a kid ... what an album machine Bernie Taupin and Elton were in the early 70's and later ....ohhh to go back to a time of being a kid without government being an intrusion on a kids life ... time couldn't stand still even for the greatest music generation ... Now even the rock idols are passing away ... petty ,bowie ,peart and now Meatloaf .. .and other greats unmentioned ..( hope they KNEW the Lord) ... ah to go back to when it was More Than a Feeling ... Carry on Our Wayward Son(s) ....thx rcl
One of the most beautiful songs every written. When I pick up my guitar, this is one of my go-to songs---and have been doing so for decades. Thanks for playing it. BTW--Elton's live version of this song rocks.
Oh man you are a blessing. On this crazy insane day that is just about the last straw of this year you come up with this BEAUTIFUL song I have not heard for so long. Lovely.
“I wonder does he get lost in the moment...he just sees who he’s dedicating this song to.” I think he does. I saw him in concert once. Like you can tell just how deep and personal of a connection he has to each and every song. It was an amazing show. As for where you may have seen this - and I know it’s been answered that he is the original artist - like an awards show or whatever, maybe on an X Factor video? Janet Devlin did an amazing rendition of this on that show many years ago, totally worth checking out.
Hey, love what you’re doing. FYI, In almost every song performed by Elton John, he wrote the music and Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics. They’ve collaborated for over 40 years. Bernie will write lyrics and present them to Elton who then sits down at the piano and writes music that he thinks expresses the lyrics. I once saw Elton John on stage and a person handed him a book with plays in it. Elton looked over the dialogue in the play and just started making music to go with the dialogue and it was beautiful. Lord Byron once wrote one of favorite lines about music. He wrote: “Music is love in search of a word.” Your Song was a bit hit for Elton John maybe 40-45 years ago.
This song has saved my ass emotionally many times- it's my 'go to' sit down and play song if i'm ever dealing with something or feeling anything that I am struggling with-it's a part of my dna. I had to play it at a friend's funeral and it damned near broke me. Elton is my favorite - he's my hero. So many hours of my life have been spent listening to him and seeing him in concert. True legend.
The effortlessness of Elton’s excellence is pretty absurd. Always sounds as good live as he does on studio tracks, if not better. And yet it all seems about as difficult to him as microwaving a bag of popcorn.
I have been blessed enough to see Elton perform many times. And while I love his music..this song is by far my favorite song. It is truly beautiful and easy to get lost when your listen to it.
Whoever wrote this song for Elton put it in good hands. He told the story beautifully. I have always loved this song. How could anyone feel down while listening to "Your Song".Thanks for reacting to it.
Yes, Elton wrote this w his partner, Bernie Taupin. I’ve been lucky enough to see Elton live twice, Once at Arco Arena in Sactown, and once at a private corporate party for Genentech employees and their families. He is one of the legendary OGs. 👍🏼
So much of Elton's music has deeper meaning for me personally. But this song can take me back to a very specific memory and a certain time in my life. Thanks for all you do to keep great music alive.
I got to see Elton John on the side of a ski slope in Ischgl, Austria about 12 years ago. Led off with 'Love Lies Bleeding' which pleased me to no end. Then I went higher to ski. Best concert I've ever been privileged to be part of.....
1970 his break out HIT that made his career. He wrote this with Bernie Taupin on Elton's mom's kitchen table. it was the "B" side of Take me to the Pilot and the DJ's actually preferred the B side better!

The single sounds very much like it. Ty for reacting to this. I hadn't seen this performance before. I think Elton John does indeed get "lost in the moment" when he plays. He is the consummate professional. 💜
Just an abundance of undeniable raw talent. What a gift.
This song was my song to my wife.
That’s lovely 😊 🥰☺️😘
Same here!
This song still makes me tear up every time I hear it. It was on Rolling Stone's list of 500 Greatest Songs of all time too.
Bernie is a true wordsmith. Combined with Elton's vocal and true mastery of the piano, the music becomes a transporter of emotion. I get "brain movies" playing in my head to such music.
Giant Elton fan, he's my all-time favorite artist, and this is my favorite Elton song. First Dance at my wedding, its just so lovely.
Just beautiful…
I remember the first time I heard this in 1970.
If you call him Reg, he will likely give you a dirty look. That's like calling Freddie Mercury Farouk.
He doesn’t like to be called Reg....His legal name is Elton Hercules John.
Elton John happens to be Sean Lennon's godfather. You can hear Elton John on the piano in John Lennon's 1974 hit Whatever Gets You Through the Night.
My favorite Elton song! Love all his 70s music! Saw him in 1982 for a comeback tour. He’s amazing!
"Burn Down the Mission" is another banger by Elton John..
TUMBLEWEED CONNECTION ...
Fav album of him
Great song on an equally great album!
And another GREAT live performance.
Classic song, classic album.
I'm just in awe of performers who have the dedication and courage to lay themselves bare for the entire world. It takes mega-strength to do that.
MAD... MAN...ACROSS...THE...WATER!!!!!
I agree, studio version. Jamel MUST hear the orchestral arrangement of that song. Incredible!
From a european point of view, the mad man across the water might be gone soon
Brandy Carlisle doe a nice job on this one.
@@dranet47 I agree with you 100%. Haunting is the only way I can describe it. I just listened to it a couple of hours ago. I never tire of it. I enjoy the entire album, really.
@@rockinresurrection6542 Feck off, jerk. I've enjoyed PROSPERITY these last 4 years. Worry about your own shit.
One of the most beautiful ballads of all time. Thank you for this!
My Man, Sir Elton. I’ve seen him in concert three times. I’m 52, grew up in the 70’s and 80’s, and HE is my all time favorite musician.
Whenever I try singing this I get choked up. My hat's off to him for making through this
One of the most beautiful songs every written.
Lovely.
This is my favorite Elton John song. I never get tired of it. It's the simply the best.
“I wonder does he get lost in the moment...he just sees who he’s dedicating this song to.”
I think he does.
Another timeless classic. BEAUTIFUL song
I’d love to see a top 10 or 20 list of your favourite songs that you’ve discovered doing this. 👍🏻
This is the song that got me started listening to Elton John and still one of my favorites. I watched Elton John perform in Honolulu in 1973.
He wrote: “Music is love in search of a word.”
Your Song was a bit hit for Elton John maybe 40-45 years ago.
"Levon", "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy", and "Mellow"!
Whoever wrote this song for Elton put it in good hands.
He told the story beautifully.
I have always loved this song. How could anyone feel down while listening to "Your Song".Thanks for reacting to it.
Love this song and therefore love you!
Beautiful song and it really showcases Elton's amazing voice! 😎
Thanks for all you do to keep great music alive.
and today, we need to feel peace
I got to see Elton John on the side of a ski slope in Ischgl, Austria about 12 years ago. Led off with 'Love Lies Bleeding' which pleased me to no end. Then I went higher to ski. Best concert I've ever been privileged to be part of.....
1970 his break out HIT that made his career. He wrote this with Bernie Taupin on Elton's mom's kitchen table. it was the "B" side of Take me to the Pilot and the DJ's actually preferred the B side better!
This is one of my old favorites. I remember getting ready for school when this would come on our little radio.I get teary eyed still w this.Jamel u got this song as soon as it came on.Thx for this beautiful Song. 💟💟
He makes music magical
I'm remembering all these songs again. Your reactions and thoughtful insights are beautiful. I grew up in the 60' and 70's. so much great music!!!
This is one of my favourite reactions of yours--You often have such interesting, thought-provoking questions and observations, and your response is so emotive and genuine. You're like a 'comfortable friend' to your fans :) Keep up the awesome work and don't let the bastards who block posts get you down. Give 'em hell--they're realise the value of what you're providing as the evidence mounts and your message of keeping great music alive increases their exposure. You rock.
I met my husband when we were both in Jr High in 1970, the same year this came out. He played it for me on the guitar and stole my heart. It is still one of our very special songs.
Try “Harmony” from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
Steve Barrows For sure!!
Elton's music always did for me what you said. It put me at peace when I was hurting. He's been my favorite musician since my teens.
Jamel...you’ve not heard magic until you hear:
Levon
The Border Song
Madman Across the Water
Excellent choices. ❤💚💜💙💛
Saw this guy at a vineyard. He was paying solo, just him and a piano. My mum got me the tickets for building some retaining walls and gardens to say thankyou. Was one of the best concerts I've been to. Just me and my mum{ I'm 48 she's 74} eating cheese and biscuits, beautiful wine and Elton playing the hits, outdoors. A magic night.
Jamel with think that everyday. How wonderful it is that you're in the world. Our world, thank you.
